As previously mentioned, Carfax Abbey is very much related to the Pit and the Pendulum, which is fantastic for me since that is one of my LE top 10! However, this is a lot of more dusty and woody, not strictly monastic incense smell. This does remind me of a dark abbey with many secrets, a very "old" scent, if that makes sense (old, not musty, mind you!). I do like this very much, although I won't need more than one bottle since I tend to hoard different incense blends of this sort. Lovely!

This, on me, is not at all what I expected. It seems to be a light peachy fragrance with a hint of amber and floral. I can't smell the vetiver, no matter how hard I try! I wanted this to be a little bit more twisted and evil on me , but sadly it is far too sweet and innocent smelling . Thankfully, it does not go to complete soap or anything, so it may be of good use in the bath or in a lotion, or something of that sort. Well, I can't love 'em all, that's for sure!

In the bottle- this is a cousin of Asphodel, for sure. A sharper cousin, at that. Yep, LILAC (and some other white florals). Seeing as I grew up on Lilac Lane, I find this amusing. It smells like when I was a kid and would put my face right into the lilac bush and get a giant whiff. As it dries on my skin, I am getting lilac, a little bit of other floral and that "lunar oils" scent (maybe the phlox? I dunno). This is SO not me, but I am willing to keep it around and see if it mellows. If not, my mother is a huge fan of lilac scents, and will love this scent to death.

This is so sophisticated and sensual! I am glad I bought a bottle of this unsniffed! It reminds me of a lighter, creamier version of Lucretia, actually- still the uber classy feel of Lucretia with an added golden warmth and creaminess. I put this on today as the weather was grey and damp, and it is brightening my mood and making me want to curl up with a good book under a blanket. A good feeling indeed. To sum it all up- Perfect! I only wish I knew enough to order a 10ml when they were still around.

Chimera, where have you been all my life? Man, am I glad I got this as a frimp from the lab, I had not really actively sought to try this, but I should have, because this is like my ultimate comfort scent. It smells warm, syrupy, cinnamonny and sweet. Perfect for when I need a big hug, scent wise (like today! hehe) This has amazing throw, as well, and a long wear length. It's strange, how this blend feels a touch foody to me although there are no foody elements really (well honey, but still). Sometimes I get a waft and I think "doughnuts". Weird, but great! I wish the 10mls were still available because I would order one pronto. Yum-licious!

I wasn't around for the last BPAL-iversary, and I was really wanting to try this after reading the description. So finally, now, I got around to purchasing the bottle from the forum. I am so sad, because this absolutely doesn't work on me and I don't know what note is doing it. I suspect the cassia, though. There is spice, and it is lovely, but in the background exists this sharp soapy smell that is ruining all the lovely spice I waited a while for it to die down, hopeing that maybe the blend would open up on my skin, but no. same, same same. drat!

Oh wow, this is so beautiful. Very orangey with a tang of frankincense and light floral background. Thankfully my skin isn't doing the "jasmine soap" thing at all- maybe it's because it's "crushed jasmine blossom" who knows? This is incredibly elegant, sexy and intoxicating, like you are drowning in sexiness. ( and hey, who doesn't want to drown in sexiness?? ) In a way, this has a similar feel to The Haunted Palace, another one of my favorite florals, but is a completely different scent. So if you liked that one, you absolutely need a bottle of this.

I was also surprised at how much lighter this is on me than I thought it would be. There is a lot of leather on my skin, along with clove and ginger. This is a little reminiscent of Torture King to me, also (which on my skin was again pretty light). The other notes are definitely taking a back seat. I do not dislike this one, but it does not stand out to me the way that some of the other OotD blends have. I think, though, that with age I will like this a lot more, so I am definitely keeping it.

Hm. This is not the type of foody that I go for normally, but I'm willing to give it a try. (usually I prefer spice or vanilla or cake, but not caramel and such). Like everyone said, the drydown on this is more complex, there is a similarity to Red Lantern, although it's definitely not as heavy as that. This blend is more a fall novelty to me, and I don't see that I'd wear it enough during the rest of the year to keep it buuuut, I do want to see what happens when it ages, so I am going to let it stick around for a while and find out! (oh, and, I definitely will wear this on Halloween, it is so perfect for that!!)

This blend was a complete gamble for me. I read a lot of mixed reviews of the previous years, and decided it was worth a shot, since I know there are some that like this a lot and would give it a home if I didn't. Well, they don't get to have it, 'cause I love it!! On me this is super autumnal incense and leaves with a hint of floral. I am glad it's a hint, since gardenia is not one of my favorite flowers (I do like lily though). I feel a little strange in that I detect a bit of sugar or foody in this, don't know why it is there. No soap, though. yay! So yeah, I love this! It is an autumn evening perfected. Wind blowing, leaves rustling, walking by a church with candles lit in the windows. very evocative and beautiful. Glad I took the chance on this one.

I, too, smelled wintergreen out of the bottle. I wonder what is doing that to my nose? When this oil hit my skin, it literally felt chilly and icy. Weird, but I like it! This was very, very much a juniper and pine scent from the get go. All of the wintergreen illusion disappeared once it hit my skin. I don't get any florals from this at all. Just mossy forest with a tiny bit of slushiness. On me this has some strrooonngg throw! I was simply testing this with a little dab on my elbow, but I can smell it over the giant slather of Sugar Skull that I put on also. (actually right now it's a combination of the two, which I am not sure that I like! ) I don't know if this what i would consider a perfume scent for me, but it is nto unpleasant. When this dries down a bit (over an hour) I can smell a faint berryish smell as well. That is nice. I think this might need time to grow on me. I also am going to out a few drops in my oil burner later today, as I think that might be a good way to experience this scent. Not a bad scent at all, just not what I want in a personal fragrance. If you like cool green scents as a perfume, though, this is definitely up your alley.

(2006 version) In the bottle, the smell is a faint flower and light incense/smoke smell. very faint, and not at all what I was expecting to smell form this! On my skin at first, I swear I smelled jasmine- oh no! Thankfully the "jasmine" smell fades really quickly and a sweet foody floral comes to the surface. This is really well blended on me so it is hard for me to distinguish specific notes. Definitely a floral blend predominantly on my skin, though. I don't smell any "chocolate" or "smoke", just some sweet smokiness in the background fo the flowers. I don't smell any tobacco, which is OK with me as it is not a favorite note of mine. This does not have a lot of throw, and has a moderate wear length. I wish it would stick around a bit longer, but I do not mind reapplying. This is very pretty blend. It seems joyful in mood, yet is not very loud or dominating at all. Sort of a joyful, personal reflection on life and death, I would say. Definitely not a loud celebration like I expected . I am glad I bought a bottle of this, and it will definitely stay in my collection.

(2006 version) In the bottle I smelled a sugary fruit smell, quite light, actually. But, on me, this is LOTS of brown sugar with sweet fruits- very rich and syrupy. I think I smell plum, maybe a little cherry, but as for the rest of the "fruits" I am unsure. I am very glad this blend exists because some days I really have a sweet tooth scent-wise, and while blends like Xanthe and Kunstkammer and the like are a bit toooo fruitysweetoverload, the smokiness of the brown sugar in this one makes it just right for those days and completely appropriate for "me". I'm actually contemplating a second bottle of this, which I did not anticipate doing...

Unquenchable desire, seething lust, malevolent sexuality, and voracious hunger lurking beneath a shimmering veil of unearthly beauty: gleaming skin musk, honey and white amber, plum blossom, osmanthus, sandalwood, calla lily, and a light, sensual blend of Eastern spices. Gosh, I have been so impressed with the OotD blends, and this one is no exception! It is a delicate honeyed floral blend, with enough sweet honey and musk to not let any florals go soapy or sharp. I am so grateful for that....This is indeed ethereal in feeling- floating on air, wispy and dangerous (and of course sexy!) I think for me this falls in the "I'd wear this in spring" category, so it won't get a lot of wear right away, but it is a definite keeper. A must try, even if you don't love florals.

This has got to be the sweetest leather blend that I have tried, ever! It is surprisingly feminine and refined (although men can easily wear this one too). I am not getting all leather like other folks, I am definitely getting quite a bit of pear, which is a relief 'cause all leather can tend to give me a headache. This smells of a leather jacket sweetened with a faded perfume once. Ahhhh. I am a big fan of this blend, that is for sure. So, I think I need more than one bottle of this, in short. Fantastic!!

This scent is so fabulous! On my skin it is incredibly well blended. I can't pick out notes in particular, but I know that all of the ones listed are present. I get a smoky incense and floral with a hint of foody (strange I know), which I blame on the tonka and ginger. I want to eat my arm, or make out with it, or something. Yum. This has incredible throw on me too, it wafts all around me evn though I only put a dab on my arm to test it. I love this one, it may be my favorite, but really all of the OotD scents are fantastic.

Wow. This is an amazing scent. Amazing in that when I sniffed it in the bottle, I got a strong visual impression of madness, decay and insanity. It really IS unhinged, I know that sounds strange, but, yeah, this is an odd, mental scent! I also got a strong impression of old old buildings, mold, moss and other plants crawling everywhere. Hehe, this scent is very appropriate for my neighborhood, where the building across the street from me is from the 1500s- lots of old maddening energy and decay. Once it hits my skin and sits there for a while, the neroli comes out and sweetens up the cumin and patchouli (and other things ) I totally agree with people saying it is twitchy. This morphs quite frequently between a cumin-y scent and a more neroli dominated scent- almost like a more masculine Masquerade. I really like this scent, although it is not one I would wear if I was the least bit nervous or anxious that day, since I think this scent would only exacerbate that. Very well done, very evocative!

Hm. This reminds me of a few blends, but actually NOT of Snake Oil, as many said in early reviews. I definitely smell kinship to O, and Alice, but also a lot with Lust. On my skin, this is Lust Lite. No heavy musk, but all the sexiness of the myrrh and ylang ylang. Actually, it is also a bit reminiscent of when I layered Alice and Lust, as well. So, if you like these blends, you will like La Petit Mort as well. I am not sure if this bottle worthy yet, even though it is delectable. I think if i use up the imp I will buy a bottle, though.

Yuuuuuummmm! that is what I thought once this hit my skin. This is sweet, luxurious honey with a bit of fruit and herbs behind it. Call me crazy, but I think some of the herbs are similar to the herbs in Anubis, because there is something linking to the two in my brain (and nose). I am ever so thankful that I got a frimp of this, because I totally didn't realize it existed in the catalog, and it is definitely bottle worthy! It lasts and lasts and is incredibly decadent and comforting. Another one for my bottle wishlist!

OK, so far this is my favorite of the Salon scents! I thought that BPAL's snow note would be soapy on me, but it absolutely doesn't in this blend! As I apply I smell lots of fresh dirt, cold fresh dirt ot be exact. There is some greenery, but it is frozen beneath the snow. I am not at all a winter person, but this scent draws me in and seems to hold my attention. The best part about this blend is it's wear length for me. most dirt scents do not last very long on my skin. This, however, clings and holds on for at least four hours, which beats all the other ones by a longshot! The scent also stays true the entire time for me, which is rare because forest green scents tend to disappear in layers on my skin. Overall a fantastic scent, and, like others, I see myself reaching for this often in the coming winter!

This is a very light floral on my skin, with jasmine being the primary flower. Since this is the jasmine that is quite evil with my skin chemistry, I am now smelling soap and honeysuckle on my skin. A sharp soap at that! It's a shame, since honeysuckle is a flower I do enjoy from time to time. Why must jasmine do this to me? Why?!
-
This is indeed a very gorgeous blend! At first on my skin I smell a LOT of lavendar, but after it dries the violet and lilac seem to dominate more. The sandalwood is merely a whisper in the background, which is a bit sad because I was hoping to smell more of it. There are other flowers, I am sure, but it is hard for me to detect them individually. The description of this scent really fits it to a T, in my opinion. very secretive, soft, whispered. Although this scent is not one I'd wear as a perfume, I highly recommend it to people who like soft florals.

I got this a frimp just today. I am usually very iffy about tobacco scents, it depends on what it is paired with- so i decided to see what this did on me. In a few words, not so good. I could not get any floral in this, just tobacco and a hint of rum. Even though I don't loove florals, I wanted them to be in this blend to mellow out the tobacco. Gr. This is way to masculine and, um, swarthy pirate for me. I like those qualities and all, but, you know, on someone else. Ah well, someone else will love I'm sure!
-
Hm. Seems like everyone gets something different with this blend. Personally, I smell on my skin sandalwood, vanilla and a lemon with a hint of what smells like a linen note. This is not something I would wear everyday, since I am not normally a fresh and clean scents person ( ) buuut, I do like it nonetheless. I wonder where the neroli is in this, cause I can't smell it at all. not even after the drydown. Strange. This has great throw on me and moderate lasting power. I might buy a bottle of this come spring, we'll see. I bet it also would be a great room scent, but I don't have enough of it to try that out yet.
-
Ah! this scent is simply perfect for me! two things I love- church-like incense and cake! And it really is a perfect marraige of the two of them- almost like they are two separate entities in the same room (or, uh, on m skin), but still create this one fabulous scent! It does take a while for the balance to get there, though, at first on my skin it is very strong incense with a hint of sweet, and in the bottle as well, I smelled primarily incense. Anyway, this is such a great scent, I am so glad I got two bottles!! I think it is great for foody types and non foody types alike, since it does not scream "bakery", but simply implies that the sweets are there. This is definitely moving in on my LE top 10!
