As in the musical (the movie too I suppose), of course. Either for the Phantom or Christine or in general. I personally found Nosferatu very Phantom-ish.. Especially when combined with Zombi (roses). In fact, when I first wore those two together I immediately heard "Down Once More" bellowing inside my head. So.. Suggestions?

I got my first six imps in the mail yesterday (Darkness, Anne Bonny, Laudanum, Zombi, Nosferatu, Black Phoenix, and Verandi as a freebie). Unfortunately, two of them smelled just like.. Old Spice. O.o Which isn't good. But, anyway. I enjoy writing, you see. But lately I've ran out of ideas, and I'm somewhat lacking motivation. So.. Anyone have any ideas of some scents that could work as a muse? Nothing too floral or perfumey (well, perfumey is okay-- Darkness made me smell like a senile old woman yet I love it). I'm open to pretty much anything, though.

I'm not sure if I've already reviewed this or not.. But I'm going to anyway since I love Nosferatu so much. It's my favorite bpal so far and it's perfect in every way.. It's not really "gritty"; it's all sweet (but not at all cloying) wine and dusty red velvet curtains on me, with something deeper & earthier underneath that my untrained nose can't really identify yet. But it captures the whole Nosferatu imagery and romance just perfectly. It smells decadent and heady in a quiet, understated way. I always end up just lying there inhaling it-- it makes me feel totally relaxed and, gahh.. can't really explain it, but I feel wonderful and languorous wearing it. As it aged it stayed mostly the same, just a bit sharper and sweeter, more herbal. Btw: I love mixing this with Zombi.

Whoa. Right when I sniffed this, I kind of flashbacked to this one day (I was 9 or so) when I was at a water park, floating around while "As I Lay Me Down to Sleep" by Sophie B Hawkins was playing. O.o Weird how that happens.. I don't recall there being any lilies or roses or any of that there. Just the chlorine and sunblock smell. It *does* smell watery, though. It's comforting, but it also smells very sad. I'm sitting here wanting to cry for no reason..? But I love it and cannot stop sniffing it. (and of course I spilled the imp. arg.)

Being a David Bowie/Labyrinth fanatic, I've wondered if there's any blends that have that general vibe, etc, or could evoke similar imagery. Swamps and fantasy and illusions (oh my!) and so forth. OR, blends that one could imagine Sarah or the Goblin King himself wearing. So, for fellow labyrinth fans-- any suggestions?

For me, there was no spice whatsoever. Just faint potpourri that my skin ate up quickly.

That's a good one! I love Cinema Strange. Here are some I've thought of recently: The Cruxshadows - Monument ----> La Belle Dame Sans Merci. There's a spoken word part towards the end of the song from the poem by Keats. Nine Inch Nails - Closer ----> O. Psyclon Nine - Harlot ----> Harlot, of course. David Bowie - Golden Years ----> Versailles. Clan of Xymox - Jasmine and Rose ----> Nuit Ooh, Cruxshadows. I wonder if there's something that matches their song Winterborn.. (the Subway to Sally mix, especially.)

This one saddened me. Both in the imp and on my skin, it was pure dandelion (or something that smelled similar) and pollen.

Venerable and solemn: the scent of incense smoke wafting through an ancient church. A true ecclesiatical blend of pure resins. I tried this twice. Like most of the scents I've tried, it smells the same as my skin as it does in the bottle.. And Cathedral, on me, smells like sharp wood polisher-- nothing else. Pinesol. No incense or anything smoky or sweet whatsoever.. Very reminiscent of Anne Bonny. Sadly I won't be using this.

Not sure if any of you are familiar with the odd band Cinema Strange (they're wonderful, though).. But Zombi reminds me of their songs, particularly "Tomb Lillies". Oh! And Nosferatu reminds me of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by the Bauhaus. I'd love to find something that reminds me of a Loreena McKennitt song. Especially "the old ways"..

Thanks for the new suggestions. Fae is definitely on my to-buy list now.. Dorian is, too.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Hmm.. I'd like to find something similar to Anna Sui (the purple and black kind). -
Yeah, I forgot it had peach in it.

Thanks for the input so far! Faiza is a good idea. After some thinking, I also think Depraved would be good-- due to the darker aspect of it, and especially because of the apricot. I know that it was actually a peach that Hoggle/Jareth gave her, but I couldn't find anything with peach in it that had a darker side. Fiddledragon: Hmm.. I haven't tried Krampus either, though I could see Jareth in that. I think he would need something less two-dimensional, though. Something complex, or with two very different sides to it, since he's a product of Sarah's subconscious after all. So, "Masquerade" might be good. For the ball room scene, you know. And Death Cap would most definitely be ludo! I've been wanting to try that. For Sarah.. Something passive-aggressive, maybe. Or Fae?

The essence of the most debauched hunger encapsulated into a perfume. Desire beyond love, anguish beyond sanity. Nutmeg, sassafras, black poppy and myrrh. Both in the bottle AND on me, it smells like root beer and Old Spice. I'm terrible at picking out notes, but does anyone know what may have caused it? Aside from skin chemistry.

The absolute darkest scents? dark, ghostly, haunting, scary,
Flowermouth replied to Cinder's topic in Recommendations
Thanks for the suggestions, everybody I ordered 2 imp packs, including some "Dark" scents such as Centzon Totochtin and Burial. Mainly I just wanted to know for future reference, since I enjoy writing short horror stories and whatnot. Sloth sounds interesting.. Some of the reviews mentioned it smelling like a musty basement, and oddly enough that appeals to me. Someone mentioned Niflheim.. Yeah, it doesn't seem dark per se (due to the florals/reviews) but the name of it alone is enough to make me buy it. Especially since one of my favorite songs by Therion is called Niflheim, and I love norse mythology. Ok, I'm finished rambling. -

I've only posted a few times, and having only purchased an imp pack so far I'm still very much a newbie.. Anywho, I've browsed past threads but couldn't quite find the recommendations I'm looking for. But moving on, what are the darkest scents you've ever tried? Not dark as in sad per se, but.. Well, I'm sure you get the point. I've tried both Zombi and Nosferatu and I adore them, but they don't quite strike me as "dark" in the sense that I'm looking for. Sinister, though it doesn't have to be spicy or anything. I've also tried Darkess, but apparently black poppy hates me-- or vice versa. Both Laudanum and Darkness smell like a mix between Old Spice (which I LOATHE) and my grandma's perfume. Oils that I've been considering getting include Brimstone and Black Annis, but I'm curious about everyone else's thoughts.
