Wet: This smells like the puzzles I had when I was little! Not sure what they were made of - seemed to be a cross between wood and cardboard. Each puzzle had 6-12 big pieces that fit into a base/frame made of the same material. Alone smells like those! Plus cinnamon. As it dries: The wooden-cardboard puzzle smell fades, amd the cinnamon increases. I think I can smell patchouli as well - or at least, something that smells like what I think patchouli smells like. I'm not 100% sure that the smell I call "patchouli" is really patchouli. I also notice that my wrist is a bit red where I applied it. I don't feel anything; it does not sting or burn. Later: I still smell cinnamon, but now it's more mellow and almost earthy. Also, this has stayed pretty strong for the past three hours; I don't have to shove my nose into my wrist to smell it. (Oh, and the redness has left my wrist. It never burned or hurt, but I'll probably dilute Alone next time I wear it, just in case.) I like cinnamon and puzzles, so my rating: 4.75/5

Wet - Warm, almost nutty. Faint bit of woodsmoke underneath. As it dries - A dark old locked-up room in a wooden house. And ashes? I think I can smell the lemon, too, if I pay close attention. There's more going on here, but my nose is not yet educated enough to recognize what it is. Later - Darkens and deepens. Still a little ashy/smokey, but in a very good way. Can't smell the lemon anymore. My rating: 4/5 Poe's birthday is January 19th; later this month the Poe House and Museum here in Baltimore will have its annual World's Largest Edgar Allan Poe Birthday Celebration. Of course, I must wear one of the Poe scents for this, and Lenore is currently the top candidate.

Wet - Yes! Spiked eggnog! As it dries - Yum. Rum and brandy tones down and the whole thing mellows; it's very sweet and warm with a bit of foody spice. Smells the way eggnog tastes. Or rather, it smells the way I remember eggnog tasting; it's been a couple of years since I actually drank any. Maybe a run to the grocery store is in order. Later - Um, yep. Still eggnog! I want to drink my arm. My rating: 4.5 / 5

This is one that I tried on the name alone - I bought an imp on the boards without even reading the description. When I did later read the description, it sounded quite intriguing. Wet - Mellow, almost foody, almost cookie; cookies on a wooden cutting board? I like this so far. It doesn't sting my nose, but it's still strong enough to smell easily. As it dries - Something spicy apears. Smells cinnamon-ish to me. I still like it. Dry - Warm, spicy. No longer quite so foody. This is okay. A little later - Eek! Where did that come from? And what is it? It smells a little like leather. Wet, dirty leather that's been sitting in a dark corner too long. Everything else is gone and only this odd smell remains. Oh dear. And I was enjoying this so much earlier. I can't give up on Penny Dreadful, because it was so fascinating initially. I'll try using it in a scent locket or something - some method that keeps it off my skin. My ratings: Wet and early dry stages - 4/5 After fighting with skin chemistry - 1/5

First day of a new year, and my very first review. So it seems appropriate to review the first BPAL I ever tried. I'd been seeing mentions of BPAL all over the internet, and finally looked it up and bought some imps through LJ. My favorite candle scent is eucalyptus, so I tried Jabberwocky first. Out of the bottle: Eucalyptus YES! And a little pine. Such happiness. Wet on skin: Eucalyptus still, and I'm still happy. After it dries: Eucalyptus fades and something else comes up. From reading the desscription and reviews, I know it's supposed to be orange. If I try, I can smell the orange a bit, but mostly it's just a nice soft almost-candy smell. Sweet without being artificial or cloying. I am ecstatic. Later: Same nice creamy smell. Someone else described it as an orange creamsicle. That's very close to what I'm smelling, too, with emphasis on the cream. My rating: 5/5. Of the 25+ scents I've tried so far, Jabberwocky is definitely in my top 3. Thank you, Beth!

Yesterday I tried Jailbait. As soon as I opened the imp, I started laughing. It's bubble gum and candy! Hearth '05 also amused me; I kept sticking my arm out at my husband and saying, "Smell me! I smell like cookies!"
