    Bread-and-Butter-Fly

Bread-and-Butter-Fly - This smells delicious! It opens upon on me with a strong, black (Earl Grey-like) tea scent over the scent of milk-like, creamy butter. The milky quality dissipates quickly and it becomes mostly tea and bread. There's a bit of stale flatness about it that I often get with foody scents, but it's faint and so overall, I still like the scent. This is another strange scent on me in that it's definitely not something I would normally wear, and while I like it, I don't love it, yet it's so unique and interesting that I can't stop huffing my wrist!

    Snap-Dragon-Fly

Snap-Dragon-Fly - This opens up as a super-sweet plum scent.... so lovely! As it warms up on my skin, the mincemeat spices really become the dominant notes, and I can smell the pastry of the pie, too. Upon drydown, it's mostly the scent of pie pastry filled with spicy mincemeat and sweet, juicy plum. This is a strange scent on me, but I like it. I'm not much of a "foody" scent person, and even though this is highly foody, it's not foody in the usual way.

    Grief

Grief - When first applied, this is extremely strong, high-pitched lily of the valley and fresh, springtime calamus. As it dries down, both of those notes settle down significantly and this becomes a lily-dominant, mixed floral blend on a bed of fresh-cut greenery. It's pretty, and those who love springtime floral scents may like this one a lot.

    BOBN1

BOBN1 - When I first applied this, all I smelled was the sweet-sour rind of some type of fruit, and what kept coming to my mind was either yuzu or starfruit. I didn't pick up on the florals at all until a good 15 minutes into it, when it started to dry down, at which point the fruit-rind settled down and the whole scent became a nicely balanced fruity-floral, but I couldn't tell you for the life of me what floral -- definitely not rose, jasmine, heliotrope, lily, lilac, wisteria, carnation, cherry blossom, apple blossom, plum blossom, or orange blossom. Maybe the others who said narcissus and mimosa are right. It's a very pretty and soft scent on me after drydown. Glad I got a chance to try it.

    YAR7

YAR7 - Well, if that don't beat all... this smells like a bloody mary (tomato, celery and all!) being drunk on the wooden deck of a burning ocean liner, with the scent of salty sea spray in the air.

    Lola Montez bath oil prototype

Oh, the irony of wanting to bathe in a scent that is actually a bath oil....that's impossible to get more of!!! This is gorgeous. I really can't describe it better than yeahbutnobut did (whom I also have to thank for my tester!) Like her, it reminds me of another scent, but I can't put my finger on which one. Maybe CC: Male? Maybe Violens? Maybe something else entirely? It's actually kind of bugging me that I can't peg it down. Anyway, yes, it's sweet and smoky (on me, not so much musk, actually). I think there's got to be a bit of dark myrrh in this, as well as some clove, and maybe some sandalwood (?), amber, vanilla, and smoky incense. This scent is so much love that I will not waste my 1/2 imp in a bath. I will wear it directly on my skin, but only on a day when I have nothing else to do other than sit around huffing my wrist.

    Rhinotoros

Rhinotoros - Straight out of the bottle, this smells like some serious, major, hardcore VETIVER. As soon as I apply it, I can smell the patchouli, and once it dries down, the white pepper tiptoes in and gently accompanies the other two notes. I never can pinpoint the grapefruit, but there's a crispness about this scent that I am guessing must be a result of the grapefruit. The other three notes combine to create an almost leather-like scent -- a dark brown, worn, leather shoe type smell. It smells really, really good. I do love a good vetiver scent! It's a bit too masculine for my taste, however. The throw is really strong -- I put on a tiny drop while testing and 30 minutes later, I was caught in a gust of wind, and wow, you should have smelled the air around me. It was as if every molecule of air in that wind gust absorbed some of the Rhinotoros fragrance. It was the sexiest wind gust I've ever been caught up in! Really, really nice vetiver scent. Too bad my husband can't wear fragrance. This would be a nice one on him.

    Doodad

Doodad - Will wonders never cease -- another foody blend I can wear! Sadly, I only have a few drops of this. It's GORGEOUS. I don't smell much in the way of nuts in this...which is good, since my skin doesn't generally like nutty scents. I smell yummy sugar cookies drizzled with a cherry cordial creme on top. This scent opens up with a huge blast of juiciness along with the cookie scent, but it doesn't have that cough syrupy scent that certain cherry scents have (e.g., Kabuki); rather, it's more of a creamy cherry, like we found in Bloody Mary. The overall scent is rich and buttery, loaded with sugary baked goods and that cherry creme glaze. Wow, this is delicious. It's making me hungry. Want more. Want cookies...

    The Witch's Repast

The Witch's Repast - This smells soooo good! I don't smell any meat at all. Rather, I mostly smell the honey and bread and lots of juicy berries. Mmmm! It's very boozy and sweet and fermenty and bready when I first apply it. A good 8 hours later, I can still smell it on my skin, but what's left is mostly a rich honey-bread scent at this point. I really love this one and am just amazed that I can wear it so well since I don't wear foody very well, but this foody is one that works on me. Delicious! The Witch's Repast - This smells soooo good! The Zadok Allen Vineyard

The Zadok Allen Vineyard - Holy smokes, folks, this is amazing! I ran a decant group over on LJ, and the whole time I was decanting this, I was kind of grossed out by the uber-wine scent, and so, when I had a partial bottle left over, I sold it. Now, I'm kicking myself for doing that. I wish I had more than just a couple drops left! This is gorgeous on me. Yes, it opens up with a BLAST -- a REALLY HUGE blast -- of wine, but that quickly settles down and behind comes the dark juiciness of the plum and cherry, as well as the faintest hint of rose, which is very soft, gentle, and slightly powdery, and then there's the smoky wood and dark, heavy incense and the faintest coppery tinge of blood running through it. . If I wouldn't have seen the scent description, I'd have guessed there was dark myrrh in this, which must be the sweetness of the blood combined with the black incense. I will be buying a bottle, and I can totally see this becoming my go-to scent when I want something dark, heavy, and very sexy. Throw is about average and it has higher-than-average longevity.

    Lovers in a Ricefield

Lovers in a Ricefield - I love this scent when first applied. It's a burst of slightly spicy, juicy sweetness. The plum is rich and ripe and soooo sweet and juicy! Right behind it is the soft, almost-powdery scent of wild rice. The fruitiness fades almost as fast as its juiciness bursts out upon my skin initially, but as it fades, the vanilla sandalwood becomes the dominant note, with a hint of the plummy goodness in the background. It's gorgeous, but within 5 minutes of application, it has become a skin scent that I cannot smell at all unless I practically press my nose to my skin. An hour later, I can barely detect it, and by two hours after application, there's not the faintest trace of it to be found. I think this would smell much better if I used it in an oil burner to keep the scent bright, bold, and true from beginning to end.

    Hua Mulan Bath Oil

Hua Mulan bath oil is mostly white ginger on me with a hint of tea leaf and soft florals. It's really beautiful. It's a very zen-like, relaxing scent.

    Champagne Bath Oil

Champagne Bath Oil - I adore BPAL's champagne scents -- haven't encountered one yet that I wasn't nuts about. This is no exception. It's bright, fizzy champagne. Sweet, delicious, and just wonderful. A few drops in my tub makes my whole bathroom smell amazing. I am beyond thrilled that I have a whole bottle, and I use it regularly. I'm so glad it doesn't take much because I have to figure out a way to make sure this bottle lasts me a lifetime!

    Hua Mulan

Hua Mulan is such an incredibly light scent that it's hard for me to identify any individual notes. It's a light floral with the faintest whisper of musk. The leather is barely discernible, but is definitely there giving the scent just enough depth to keep it from wisping away completely. It's very pretty, but doesn't have any throw at all.

    B.B3

B.B3 - Red musk, coconut, and something that reminds me of sassafras. The notes clash horribly when I first apply it, and it takes a good hour for it to settle into something really nice and wearable. Once it does settle down, it's quite nice, but the throw is low, and the longevity is lower than average on me.

    Godfather Death

Godfather Death - I don't smell anything sweet. I don't smell anything floral. All I smell is dusty, dry wood.

Left His Nurse While In a Crowd

Hot tea with cream, berry cream-filled milk chocolates, and moist slices of cake against a backdrop of alarming leonine golden musk. Left His Nurse While In a Crowd - I think this might be the first over-the-top foody scent that not only smells amazing in the vial, but also on my skin. I cannot get over how well this wear! It comes as sweet, moist, white cake -- lot and lots and lots of white cake -- smothered in chocolate and berries. It's sweet, fruity, chocolatey, cakey delicious. It doesn't last long on me -- 90-120 minutes at most, but it's well worth reapplying. It's really, really, really awesome, and the chocolate in it never does turn stale on me, as chocolate often does. The cake note, which always works on me, carries the chocolate and somehow buffers it from the bad things my skin usually does to chocolate notes. This is such an unexpected winner!

    Bauble

Bauble - I love love LOVE BPAL's champagne note, so I just went nuts when I smelled this. This is a beautiful, sweet champagne -- not dry at all like the champagne scents from the previous year's Yule Will Call special scents. For a brief minute, I also thought I smelled something that reminded me of 7-Up, something more sweet and lemon-limey soda-like, but that quickly faded, and what I smell is the sweet champagne note blended with sweet punch notes (although this smells nothing like Spiked Punch) like perhaps lemon, lime, and orange (???) and the faintest trace of soft, ethereal florals. This is drop-dead gorgeous. I am in love.

    País de la Canela

País de la Canela - This is such a lovely scent! Others have said that it's reminds them of Christmas/Yule scents, but I think it's the wrong kind of greenery to be Christmasy. This scent is heavy on the greenery, but it's not evergreen-type trees at all. The scent is deeper, thicker, and more lush (or would that be "lusher"?). The cinnamon is heavy and spicy and quite powerful. Overall, this is a gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous scent. I put on the tiniest bit and I'm enveloped in scent. When I sniff up close, it has a bit of soapiness about it, but I catch none of that from the sillage, so I just won't sniff up close. I love it. The only negative thing is that my chest seized up and began to hurt the moment I put it on. I'm not sure if it's just a seasonal-allergy-related coincidence, or if it's an allergy to the fragrance. I'll try it again in a few days when my seasonal allergies aren't so bad and see if the same thing happens or not.

The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil

The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil - I didn't actually think I'd like this with my general bad experience with a number of the notes in it, but overall, it's a beautiful, fruity blend. The first note I notice is the apple, and even though I can't usually wear apple well, it smells really good on me! It blends beautifully with the pomegranate and fig. I think this would make a nice scent for my locket or oil burner, as after 20 minutes on my skin, it gains a flat, stale, and slightly powdery quality.

    Couple Consulting an Enpon

Couple Consulting an Enpon - In the vial, this smells warm and sweet and delicious. The moment it touches my skin, it turns into a strong cat pee, wood, and powder scent. It doesn't settle down, fade, or balance out. It continues to maintain the strong smell of cat pee. I am fairly certain it's the blackberry that's going wonky on me and ruining this, even though I've never had that reaction to blackberry before. I'm afraid I can't give a good review at all with the craziness that happens on my skin while wearing this.

    The White Rider

The White Rider - This is a beautiful leather scent. It's a soft, supple leather, bolstered by the faintest hint of sandalwood, and something else that's sweet and pretty in the background, it's almost floral, like olive blossom. It's such a lovely scent. It has very low throw, and is very soft and subtle against my skin. This isn't a rough-and-tumble leather scent. Rather, it's quite classy and upscale. I really like it.

    The Little Wooden Doll

The Little Wooden Doll - When I sniff this in the imp, all I smell is cedar/pencil-shavings. My first thought is "where's the doll?" this is just a hunk of uncarved wood! Then it touches my skin... and the scent absolutely blossoms. From the moment it touches my skin it becomes so beautiful -- the rose and amber rise above the pencil-shavings scent, and while I still smell that dry wood beneath the rose and amber, it adds to the overall scent. The rose is a soft rose, not a red rose, and the amber slightly powdery. Overall, it's a really lovely scent. I was delightfully surprised by this one.

    Glukuprikos

Glukuprikos - I didn't have the scent description in front of me when I put this on, but pinned down the musk and ambergris immediately. On me, it's a very sweet and highly musky scent full of pencil-shaving type woods and sadly, incredibly "perfumey" on me. It didn't last more than a couple hours on me, either. Off to the swaps!

    Smut

Smut 2010 - I have a bottle of the 2006 Smut and I tried out the 2008 Smut when it came out. I love Smut, but I had NO IDEA how much I was going to love this version of Smut. I don't know if the formulation changed or if maybe it's a bath variation, but my bottle of this year's Smut is so much better than any other Smut I've worn, including my beloved 2006 Smut. From the very first moment I apply it to my skin, the first thing I smell is sugar sweetness, almost like grape candy, but sexier. Then the musks and booze burst forward, but are still behind the sugar. This is definitely a boozy, musky scent that's covered with a thick layer of sugar, and for once, the sugar doesn't turn plastickey on me! I thought I wouldn't need a bottle since I already have Smut '06, but I need a bottle of this sugary sweet Smut. It's gorgeous! Super long wear length and really strong throw.
