When your favorite GC blends are discontinued
populuxa replied to darklorelei's topic in Recommendations
I just found a random imp of Regan and I'm in love! I'm bummed that it's discontinued. What's another super light floral in the GC? It also went a little sunblock-y on me, but in a pleasant way. -
OK, weird. When I got this bottle fresh from the lab it was sharp and cologne-y. It was out of rotation for a while, but I just started using it again and it has totally morphed into proper lavender cheesecake. Has this happened to anyone else? Really nice and not too buttery or cloying. I like it as a cozy bedtime scent.

Wow what a disappointment. There is some note that is sometimes in aquatics that smells like new carpet on me. Bay leaf maybe? Otherwise, it would be nice. Similar to Sea of Glass. Very watery and not ozoney at all. Slightly bitter.

My skin just goes nuts with vanilla. The dragon's blood makes an appearance as a slightly spiced, watery cherry - but is mostly drowned out by a slightly honey/creamy vanilla. It's pretty and unassuming, but I'm not particularly wow-ed by it either. However, I'm working at a reception desk and I'm getting tons of compliments from people walking through. "Mmm! Something smells like vanilla!" ... "Ooo! It smells really good out here!"

This is absolutely bursting with deliciousness. It goes on very juicy and fruity. Then the fig/quince warm it up a little, with a slight spicyness following. Finally, a slightly woody, earthy floral it rounds out. Wearing it really is like walking through a luscious garden. As the notes dance around each other, I can imagine myself passing by fig trees, then under some baskets of tropical flowers, and finally sitting on a bench by some rose bushes. I'd say this is in the same family as Pannychis or the Perfumed Gardens, although it is definately brighter and juicer than both, making it a little more wearable in the summer. I'd also like to state for the record that in spite of this having a noticable rose note I still really enjoy it, which is a rare miracle in my world of sniffing.

So lovely! Light and crisp. The tea really balances takes the edge off the bitterness of the grapefruit. It's a very subtle blend. Sadly, it is far too faint, and disappeared completely after about two hours. Very pretty though.

Azrael is the Angel of Death, marked as the last being to die in the Apocalypse. Though a harbinger of doom, his duties are an act of mercy: he curtails human life before world-weariness and despair destroys our spirits. Warm myrrh swirled with a bittersweet blend of violet, Lily of the Valley, juniper, cypess and cajeput. Surprising! Violet usually goes rotten on me, but it's actually pretty subdued here. The juniper and cyprus really make this blend sing. The myrrh keeps it from being too bitey, but it is still a pretty sharp, gutsy blend. A little headache-y still, due to the violet but I can see someone else totally loving this one.

This couldn't have worked out worse for me. In the bottle, it smelled like a strong, delicious pina colada. Dry it turned into tutt-frutti-flavored rubber. GAG! Get it off!! Apparently coconut is a no-go for me because the same thing happened with Obatala! Such a bummer! I was really looking forward to this one!

Wow! This is a scent I almost entirely looked over but I am so pleasantly surprised. It's really invigorating and watery fresh. I'm not expert enough to identify particular notes except the prickly pear that jumps up and says HI!!! Slightly herbal - perhaps even bitter, slightly fruity, resting on a background of powdery amber.

Hmm. Musk and strawberry candy. Not exactly a pair I'd imagine would work together. The berry smell dukes it out with the vanilla musk and holds its own. Quite a feat because the vanilla/musk usually has a party on me and drowns out whatever else is in a blend. I think this is Pink Phoenix's evil twin or Snake Oil's tarty little sister. I really like this! It's really potent, a beautiful sass-tastic blend.

Figs and Fig Scents - alone and in combos
populuxa replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
If you can get your hands on some, the Perfumed Garden is a cozy warm fig & myrrh on me. It's my favorite when it's chill!y! -
Actually not as masculine as I thought it would be, but I love salty! . It's an interesting combo of fresh ocean spray and laundered and sun-dried pirate gear.

Bottled bubblegum. Amazingly, as it dries the sticky bubblegum fades and it turns rather cinnamon and bitter as it dries. Not as I expected but also not very good.
-
Whee! Mango! On the drydown, the mango calms down a litte bit. The fig and patchouli step up together with a incensy, spiced sweetness. I don't get much of the tea note except for a little hint of grassiness in the background. Fruity and fun!
-
A creamy, lemony, sweet tea. Very light and delicate. I love how the musk and sugar dance around. It's a very natural, unassuming fragrance. Just downright pleasant.

The chocolate is totally smothered by the sickening smell of cherry cough syrup. Nasty. I can't really smell the orange blossom at all. Note to self: no cherries! Velvet is the way to go for a pure chocolate scent.
-
Whoa! Strong! I can't wear nutty scents. It's sickening sweet, and the caramel/toffee combined with the smokey vanilla actually makes it smell a little burnt. Sadly, I smell no chocolate. It's not very tasty smelling at all actually.
-
CAKE! Vanilla, and maybe also almond. Underneath is a nice tangy twinge of currant. Delicious! It's actually pretty light and not at all overwhelming - just tasty sweet goodness. But, do I really want to smell like cake all the time? Maybe so!

Wet - All pink grapefruit. As it dries, it stays very fruity, but the chamomille and musk start to take the stage. Like Shattered, the notes dance around, although I don't like the heavy incensy herbals with the grapefruit too much. It's complex and mischevous. A fun scent but not a fave [although I think this may be because chamomile does not jive with me very well]
-
Too heady for me. In the bottle, it was an intriguing smell - nothing recognizable. The floral is way too potent and cloying for my taste. It's slightly soapy, and I detect some sage and other light herbs. It is a complex blend, dark and clean at the same time, but not my cup of tea.
-
A lovely blend but a little to masculine for me. Beautiful, rich aquatic notes, some heavy floral (violet maybe?), dirt, and spiciness. It's a little hard to pin down, but it is a very intense, brooding sort of scent.
-
Absolutely true to the description. It's a very clean salty smell. Like saline solution rather than ocean water. The perfume note is really buried under the saltiness - it's a lineny-floral under there. Overall this is a very dainty scent.

When I open the bottle I am scared. It's stinky. The mint and the grapefruit are in fierce competition to see who can give me a headache first. They come to agreement and decide to play nicely. The notes all dance around: boozy, juicy pink grapefruit, fresh crushed mint, a splash of water, each taking a turn. Very fun. It's refreshingly bright and cooling.

Mmm! Strawberryalicious! A sweet, happy bubbly blend. The champagne gives it a nice dry tang. And there is maybe just the very faintest hint of floral. This is in the same family as The Hamptons and Swank: simple, fruity, & boozy. I'm a fan!

Wet - gummi fruits. As it dries - helloooo booze. O that amaretto is delicious. It reminds me of this dessert, that is made with berries and is topped with sort of a crème custarard made with marsala wine. I could eat myself - no lie.
