I loved an earlier version of this, and I'm happy to report that this is nearly as lovely fresh, and likely to be just as good with some aging. Buck Moon 2017 starts out with a sharp pine note and just a hint of ozone. The latter worries me because I often get headaches from ozone scents, but this soon fades. The next phase is warmer, with a vanilla-like furry smell. The musk is coming out and it is gorgeous. Crystalline is a good description. It's like some Egyptian musks I've smelled, a clean skin musk. The musk sticks around and blends with the woods for a subtle, natural-but-better drydown.

The scent is mostly carnation to my nose. I wish I got the pineapple that some have mentioned -- I love pineapple but I don't smell that at all. What I do get is a mildly spicy herbal-floral blend, with a slight astringency from the clove. When I've used this, it's helped to loosen barriers in my interactions with others, to communicate more openly and understand each other better. I'm grateful for this gentle, effective oil.

Insupportable Misery, from the 2011 Yules, has a wonderful lilac note along with tea, saffron, violet leaf and lavender.

A kind person surprised me with a decant of this, since I recently lost my best friend to cancer. The scent is comforting and gentle - carnations? catnip? - and almost immediately after dabbing it on my pulse points I feel lighter. It stays with me throughout the day as an encouraging presence. I agree on the de-gunkifying aspect. I found myself de-cluttering my neglected living space, taking care of other life business and feeling stronger for it. And that was just my first time with this oil. I will pursue a bath with this for sure.

Wow, this is luscious! It's all rich, earthy patchouli, mellow leather and dark honey. I can't stop huffing my wrist. It gets even more delicious over time, with smoky, woody and vanilla nuances coming out. This is the best beard ever!

This doesn't smell anything like I thought it would. It reminds me of CK One, or fancy men's soap, or dryer sheets. Despite the description of dryness I'm smelling aquatic/ozone. At first I get almost an Egyptian musk note, then something like water lily, then finally I do get a tannic whiff of the white tea -- it's there if I really huff my wrist. Whatever vanilla is in here doesn't play with my skin chemistry. The overall effect for me is not unpleasant, but not distinctive, at least on me.

I had high hopes for the raspberry jam filling, while also dreading the scent would go buttery baked-notes on me. Oh, and many scents with a sugar note have ended up giving me a headache. Well, I lucked out. The sugar is a delightful top note that goes away in a little while, like you've just bitten through that top layer, and then it's sweet raspberry jelly with a comforting yeasty background. It's delightfully silly, and lasted surprisingly long on me.

It starts out all cinnamon, mellows to spicy gingerbread with sweet/tart note behind it, and dries down to sugared currants with the spice in the background.

This is such a great olfactory impression of a Christmas tree! There's lots of sticky resin, a whiff of pine needles, something like vanilla candle wax and cinnamon lighting it up, and a faint breath of Grandpa's pipe tobacco. I smell some things in common with the incense of Midnight Mass, which I love, but this is much deeper and stronger.

On me it's heavy black musk with ferns and ... cherry pipe tobacco? It's strong and unusual, definitely evocative of a strange place. When it dries down I get mostly the fern smell. It's not very me, but my grandfather could have worn it with aplomb.

The Teapot, from this year's Lupers, is a beautifully fresh tea scent with a floral hint.

Tenochtitlan has both, and it's easy to pick them out.

At first I'm scared this is going to smell like dryer sheets. It's a very clean-laundry smell for sure -- but softer, and definitely aquatic, not ozone. Once it calms down a little, I'm reminded of my own nostalgic drugstore perfume: the Love's Fresh Rain Scent my mom wore circa 1970-something! I get cucumber and bamboo and maybe water lily? There's a nice powdery thing happening on dry-down. When I want to smell clean, I usually reach for tea or citrus scents; this is a softer alternative I'll add to my warm-weather fragrance wardrobe.

True black tea, a light citrusy zing and a jasmine that's a bit like carnation. It's most definitely a springtime scent, fresh and delicate, with just a hint of soft blooms. I find it refreshing, delicious and dignified.

The 2016 version, on me, is sweet, sweet vanilla with an undercurrent of sarsaparilla. It's kind of like a foodier Tombstone.

Goes on very orris-y and herbal. Dries down to a violet that's almost boozy in its sweetness. The candy violet scent eventually becomes soft, sweet and powdery, and lingers for hours. This is a great addition to the pantheon of BPAL violet scents!

This is an instant favorite for me. There's a powdery, slightly sweet cloud around it (the nag champa, I assume) with complex, earthy notes making me press my nose to my wrist. The herbal astringency of the tea balances the musky leather and truffle accords and the soft floral incense. This is yummy and gorgeously sexy!

Yummy, tart cranberry ... then a blast of ozoney snow/pine ... then sweeter and softer but still piney ... then settles down to a soft, red fruit scent with just a whiff of the garland in the background. I like the initial tart-fruit phase the best. The snow/pine phase almost put me off, but it does not last long. I think I was expecting the cranberries to be strung with popcorn. Anyway, the scent is very seasonally evocative and fun.

Is anyone else getting cucumber from this? That's been my first impression every time I've sniffed it. Along with that wet, green fresh scent, I get spring flowers and dry wood. I can't make out any coconut or vanilla at all. On drydown it's almost purely orris with just a tinge of something bitter-green. It fits the image of spider silk well to my nose.

It's Banana Laffy Taffy, milk from bowls of Trix and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and steamed milk (but no coffee - my nose says it's a steamer instead of a latte). This is fun and comforting and I think it will go into my sleep-scent rotation.

I wasn't sure if I would like this, as sometimes fallen-leaves scents go terribly wrong on me, but the imagery appealed to me so much I had to try it. I'm glad I did -- it's so lovely! It has a wonderful mix of dryness and dampness that takes me right back to cold days in England. The damp element also reminds me of another BPAL favorite of mine, Nothing But Death. The orris and moss are most identifiable for me; the flowers lend just a light sweetness and there's a soft woody note from the sandalwood. Beautiful!
