In the imp: I smell the tea and vanilla, and something that almost smells woodsy, like some dried bark I've smelled before in potpourri. It smells a bit like one of those fancy little bars of soap. On skin wet: The sweet smells come out a lot more, along with something a little sharp in the background that makes me understand why this would be a "man" scent - maybe the lemon others are getting from this. I'm still getting some kind of potpourri flower smell thought I'm not sure what it is. Not decided on how I'm feeling about this one - it's reminding me of walking into one of those little gift shops my mom, aunt and grandma like to frequent where they sell small, whimsical dishes and various scented soaps. This is another one I want to try on the BF for sure, so far. Drying: To me the "sharp" scent I was smelling before has calmed down much more, and now I'm mostly getting a lovely sweet tea scent. Overall, I'm really liking this scent - I can definitely see the "gender neutral" aspect of it, as I'm loving it on me, but am also dying to put this on my BF. It's smelling like a big cup of vanilla tea while sitting at a table with some kind of potpourri or dried bouquet as a centerpiece. End of the day: Love love love this perfume. It's definitely on my list for a big bottle

    Yggdrasil

Got this as a freebie in my first imp order! Imp: I immediately get a very herbal-minty smell - like a sweet mint mouthwash, or aftershave. It smells very fresh and clean, but almost medicinal at this point Wet: It smells a little sweeter and more herbal, now it reminds me of like, a sweet minty green/herbal tea; it still has a kind of menthol thing coming off it right now; this is starting to remind me *a lot* of old spice red body wash that my BF uses. As it calms down I'm getting more of the woody smells - if I smell if from a few inches away from my wrist, it smells like..like if you're camping in the woods, and you get up at the crack of dawn to make your coffee, and it's just rained and there's a light breeze. And maybe someone is chewing mint gum nearby. I like it, but I can't decide if it's something I would wear or not - right now it's reminding me too much of how my BF smells just out of the shower maybe I will put it on him instead. Dry: The smell I get when I'm not directly smelling my wrists, when it just wafts up from wherever I've put it, is close to the light tree-needly smell I pleasantly associate with the holidays, reminds me a bit of the Bath and Body works candles "Winter Garland" and "Winter" but less heavy, and more light and fresh. As time goes on I am really loving this smell, and I agree with other posters about it being gender-neutral - I can't stop smelling my own wrists, but I really want to put this on my DBF - it really makes me think of, if his old spice red body wash got high and made friends with Xmas tree smell, and something sweet. End of the day: Undecided on this one. Not sure I'd get a bottle for myself, but I want to wait and see if this smells good on my BF. I think I'll keep the imp, either way. IT's something I would enjoy smelling again in the future. Revisit AUG 2014: Wet/imp: Definitely a minty/menthol herby toothpaste sort of scent right off; could be some eucalyptus or something similar to tea tree (but I don't think it is, I'd generally know tea tree anywhere and I hate it). It is a very pleasant, clean, fresh greens sort of smell Drying: As it calms down it really starts to smell the way it smells outside in the early morning, when it's still damp out. I love this - it is such a relaxing, peace-bringing sell. I may get a bottle just to put it in bath salts so I can smell this and relax - perhaps I'll wear it in the winter as well, I love tree-based smells in wintertime. Overall, an unusual scent for a perfume, perhaps not one for every day, but an absolutely lovely smell in any case. I'll have to find a use for it. It would also probably make a fantastic scent for a guy! 4 stars.

    Snake Oil

In the imp: Smells like patchouli/incense, with just a hint of spice Wet: Vanilla/sweet smell is more prominent, though the incense smell is still at the forefront. Liking this more and more as the minutes go by. After about 10 minutes I can't stop smelling my wrists Dry (1-2hrs): When I first put this on I was worried it would smell too hippy-incense for me, but once it settles in it starts to smell lovely, slightly foody but in a mature way, like a grown-up's dessert that's spicy and isn't overly sweet; It smells to me the way the most burnt part of creme brulee would taste if creme brulee were made of eggnog that was full of black rum and exotic spices End of the day: It's no wonder this is their most popular blend - wonderful scent, 5 stars. I would definitely wear this often, and it's on my list for a big bottle Revisit Aug 2014: Bottle/wet: Sweet and spice, little bit of incense maybe Drying: I'd previously had issues with this turning to baby powder after a while, so we shall see...currently still smells lightly sweet and nicely spicy, so fingers crossed! It seems like it is doing the sweet caramel baby powder thing, unfortunately. I still love the scent so maybe will use it as a room fragrance or something.

    Vixen

In the imp: I smell a little orange, and a *lot* of patchouli; it almost has a piney smell to it, with a little bit of sweetness. On skin wet: It starts to smell more like orange oil, and more woodsy to me - must be the patchouli's getting stronger, I'm not overly familiar with how patchouli smells on its own. I'm getting the ginger more finally as it dries a bit. As it dries: The patchouli or whatever the woodsiness I was smelling is calming down, and it's becoming a really nice spicy orange smell. After a while (1-2 hrs): Really starting to love it - as others have said, the patchouli calms down a lot and gives way to a lovely spicy-sweet orange smell - love it the best if I sniff from a few inches away; smells a bit more powdery End of the day: Most of the sharp notes of the patchouli and the ginger have faded out, leaving a sweet, lightly spiced orange-vanilla-y smell. I give this 4 stars, because I can imagine myself liking other smells better but I'd definitely wear this one EDIT: Coming back to the imps I've rated highly to see how I feel about them now - this one has fallen slightly from favor with me. Right after it's been put on, it's turning directly to a baby powder smell on me that is familiar as Snake oil does almost the same thing, but with Snake Oil I can stand it. I'm going to have to bump this one down to 3 stars I think, as I *might* wear it occasionally but not much would make me choose this over Snake oil. EDIT AGAIN AUG 2014: Again going back thru my imps - this does indeed smell almost exactly like Snake Oil does on me after a little while - very much an incense smell. A ginger-y patchouli powder smell. I don't hate it, but I also don't love it - it's not quiiiiite the baby-powder issue I've been having with some scents, but I'm not sure I like the outcome of this one, either. MY previous 3 stars knockdown stands.

'Tis The Voice Of The Lobster

Got this as a frimp in my first order. In the bottle, smell instantly reminds me of strawberry/otherberry lip balms of my middle school years, with a little bit of a woody, menthol-y tinge in the background. On my skin wet, the woodsy smell comes out a lot more, almost smells like strawberry incense. As time goes on, it's starting to smell more like a flower scented bar of soap - reminds me of the small soaps my grandma keeps in dishes. It definitely has a little medicinal smell to it, under the very sweet berries. I stand by the strawberry incense impression after a couple hours. Also starting to remind me of those heart shaped valentine's day candies, the way they taste.

    Dirty

My first ever BPAL purchase! I bought this at Knows Perfume in Seattle because I loved the smell before I read any of the reviews or catalog description of it - in the bottle, it initially smelled to me like sweet starfruit and flowers (possibly plumeria?), with an emphasis on the flowers. On my skin, wet and dry the tanginess of the fruity smell in the background goes away and gives way to the plumeria. After reading the description that this is meant to smell like fresh, clean linens and such, I can somewhat pick it up - it reminds me of my favorite floral fabric softeners as smelled on the clean clothes - just crisp, fresh and clean smelling, very pretty. I would probably love to wear this all the time in the spring, especially on the days when the sun breaks after a big rain.
