I have no idea what nicotiana smells like but it seems like it might be what I am smelling the most. Overall I get a very strong hit in the face of alcohol-perfume and hairspray. I can't get past that until about 20 minutes later, at which point I get a wild run of florals the lilies. The patchouli seems to combine well with the rest of this. Overall the scent works. The concept and art works. It fits so well with the name, even if the scent itself doesn't work for me.

The Wild Men of Jezirat al Tennyn (2006)

Red, peppery, wild. Swarthy. Strong. This is chaotic and fiery and very masculine. The patchouli wears too strong on me, just as I was afraid it would. -
Cologne-like, nearly masculine: Pleasant flowers and a screeching, tangy metal. I love the execution of this but the metal scent makes my anxious for some reason. I can see this working really well for some people. It's the type of scent I'd take notice of as I passed by someone else, but not one that I could wear myself.

I get oodles of jasmine, then a touch of dusky violet and a comforting envelope of vanilla. This is sweet and pleasant, sensual, romantic. I really like this but my skin doesn't deal well with jasmine and it turns it to ick. This is one that I wish I could pull of but I simply can't. I am so glad I have a scent locket, though!

Fir, amber, leather, smoke... they're all there and they're all something that makes me swoon when I smell this on a man. Sexy and lovely and I'm making my husband wear some!

This is strong cedar. Cedar, cedar, and more cedar. Beneath that, as the scent warms up, I get a meandering rose scent that is very reminiscent of the rose in Parlement of Foules. Lovely, but strong. Both rose and cedar amps on my skin so this has a wide throw! I'll keep my decant but probably won't buy a bottle of it.

Antonino is definitely a men's scent, to my nose at least. I get a sweet kick of verbena on top of all else, with a touch of musk and coconut and lavender. The fig is there, albeit faintly. This has a nice charismatic charm to it.

King Cobra almost won my heart until the copal came in and ruined it. Oddly enough, I love copal itself. But in this it sort of mixes strangely with the Snake Oil and the orris. This is a big, kingly scent with a large aura to it. Average wearlength and throw.

This is mostly dust and perfume with a touch of incense smoke. I don't get any of the characteristic opium scent that I'm used to but I do think it's there in a different form; it must be the way it mingles with the other scents. It's an effective scent, very evocative of the art and description.

Smoky coconut and vanilla, resins, musks. This sits so well with Snake Oil, and then... and then... POW! I am punched in the gut by mean old vetiver. This was so close to my grasp, and then it was gone. For those that don't mind vetiver, I bet this is a strong winner.

Caramel. Sugar Cookies. Snake Oil. Musks and other autumn/foody things like DDLM and Devil's Night. Whatever it is, it's NICE.

Bourbon, tobacco, dry bone, bay rum aftershave, and sleazy cologne. What on earth makes the scent of "dry bone"? Whatever it is, it's in there. I get a gentleman's strong cologne-like scent with dry bone and a touch of bourbon alcohol. It works. It works so well with the art. It's not something I can wear myself but it doesn't smell too bad on my husband.

Wulric has the dark sort of vetiver that scares me away. Beyond that, I can barely detect some sage and lavender. This probably works really well on those who can wear vetiver.

So much mint! Mint and mint! After it calms down I get a touch of tea and that citrus-like kick that bergamot brings. Beautiful! I have no idea how this will age or if the Snake Oil will play a larger role in this, but for now it's just lovely. Green and cool.

Sweet and soft, with a strong kick of almond. This reminds me of amaretto and almond milk, with a touch of mandarin and a grounding note of resin to go with the musks and vanilla in snake oil. This one is going to age so well. Love!

My skin amps the leather until I can smell nothing else, but before that happens I get a brief glimpse of how this may wear on other people: sweetness, leather, a touch of dry sandalwood, a very slight touch of sage; all layered over Snake Oil. If your skin doesn't amp leather like mine does, this is going to be a nice blend.

Almond + cherry! I love this! The patchouli lends it a sinister air and that sort of scares me off, but until then this is love, pure love. Very spooky and ghostly.

Cinnamon, cassia, ginger, Snake Oil. Red and spicy and enveloping. Sultry in its musks. This is straight-forward and yet complex. The notes swirl together into a strong scent. Lovely!

This is really... weird. There is something in this that attracts me and makes me want to lean in for a stronger whiff and at the same time there is something in here that almost makes my stomach flip-flop. There is a strong vein of almond milk and smoke. Those are countered by a strong, feral patchouli. I loved the experience of this and it works so well with the ghostly art, but I can't wear it.

Tiresias is nice. It's sort of thick and heavy, gender neutral, strong. The black currant is my favorite part of this blend, but the patchouli is a bit to strong and swarthy for me.

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)

This is complex, heady, red, sultry, mysterious. It has a strong vein of Snake Charmer in there, but with a twist of red musk and a sharpness to the patchouli leaf. The vanilla brings this closer to a Snake Oil variant, but again the red musk and patchouli leaf keep this original and unique. This is a definite keeper! -
This definitely reminds me of Holiday Moon and Dragon Moon; I really think it's the bamboo but the teak and ho wood probably add to the asian feel of it. The black musk sort of creates a slight note of discord among the rest of the blend, but this is a good thing. I think it works in this case.

Temple Viper is hands down my FAVORITE of all the Snake Pit scents. I have a weak spot for resins and this is the exact perfect blend of resins + Snake Oil. The resins are neither too sweet nor too dry, and they give off the sense of wafting incense in a temple. Perfect, perfect, perfect! This is both magical and sultry. I can't hoarde enough of this.

Thalassa is a beautiful aquatic. It keeps from being too soapy, and the Snake Oil keeps it grounded; as much as an aquatic scent can be grounded that is. Thalassa has a warm salty aspect to it that I just love! This is one of the very few aquatics that I am keeping around.

Oh my. This has a strong current of myrrh, with a dry herbal quality to it. The sandalwood kicks in at about the same time that the jasmine springs up. This gives it a sweet herbal quality, with the darkness of the resin sitting just below it.
