    What Scent Is This?

Have you considered Brusque Violet? Q who you sometimes swap with had some arrive recently, so she might be able to sniff & compare the two. I also gave some Violet Ray away to someone as a frimp, might have been you, but I think the label on that one was clean.

    Sticky Pillowcase

Wet and just on I get lovely caramelly brown sugar with a hint of salt water but as soon as it dries it turns to evil spiced candles. Where's my strawberry? Where's my marshmallow? I was hoping for sweet goodness like Midway but this is just a tooth rotter
  3. In the bottle all I got was white chocolate, but once on and dry the star is the lemongrass, without the sharp edge that it often has. I do get the almond I think, as I get an almost coconutty sweetness in with the white chocolate. I can't detect any coriander until about an hour after applying it, and then I might only be picking it up because I know the smell so well. The lemongrass has faded completely and the end result on me is a herbal coconut that just doesn't quite work.

Dark Chocolate with Tulsi, Tumeric and White Ginger

Wet I get curried chocolate, maybe the smell of dessert after a great curry! Once it dries it is rich, very dark, chocolate with a good kick of spice from the ginger, and quite strong turmeric grounding it. I only get a very faint whiff of tulsi which is a shame, I'd have liked it a bit stronger. I was expecting this to be very similar to Jan 2012's version of Thirteen but this to me is far more earthy.

    Tristran

Gorgeous, herby, woody and sparkly too ... I guess the sparkle is probably the mint. No one note comes reliably to the fore so each time I sniff it I get a different note. It reminds me of an old sun warmed desk in a dusty schoolroom with a window opening onto some deep green forest. I love it

    Kubla Khan

I ought to love this from the notes but it is the vilest thing I have ever smelt that was actually for sale - it's even displaced Delousing Powder as my most hated scent. All I get from it, wet or dry, is what I remember strong carbolic soap smelling of, and it turns my stomach so much I actually had to wash it off I think it's the leather that does this, as it reminds me a little of Highwayman which I also didn't like.

Pears - different BPAL pear scents

I don't get sparkly pear from The Vine - just pear and cream ... but I get tons of sparkle from Bon Vivant and very little strawberry so was wondering if layering the two would give sparkly pear?

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

I just have to try this ... I'm often seen as quiet and aloof by people, unless they know me. Underneath my quiet exterior is quite a different story. I daydream too much, I eat too much, I sleep too much, I like to indulge all my senses so I obsess about sex as well I love reading and can completely lose myself in a book, I'm stubborn and I have a hell of a temper if something pushes my buttons. I try to live by logic but too often my emotions overwhelm me. As far as relaionships go, I'm bisexual and ethically non-monogamous. I can't wear cinnamon although I love it. I hate strong florals and aquatics tend to turn to soap on me. My favourite BPALs include Dorian, Smut, Bastet, Miskatonic University, 13 and Lady of Shalott

I'd suggest you keep an eye out for the various iterations of Lick It, although it's LE you might see a decant somewhere

An Appraisal of Sensual Pleasure in the Four Seasons

Wet: Strong lemongrass and very little else. Dry: This is far more floral than I usually would like but somehow it works. I think it's the plum coming in as a rich note rather than a fruity one. I do get a background note of lemongrass which I love as it cuts through the floral sweetness, and some base smokiness from the wood and the frankincense. Oh dear, might have to find a bottle of this.

    Aloof, detached scents?

I suggest Lady of Shalott - The scent of calm waters just before a raging storm, limned with achingly-beautiful blooms, an icy scent, but somehow warm, and mirror-bright: bold gardenia, crystalline musk, muguet, water blossoms, clear, slightly tart aquatic notes and a crush of white ginger. I always wear it when I'm wanting to feel a bit detached from whatever chaos is going on around me.

    Young Pine Saplings

In the bottle: nutty, buttery goodness Wet: I get a lovely sharp whiff of fresh ginger, almost citrus before it almost immediately starts to soften Dry: This is the lovely soft ginger I've been looking for. I can see the resemblance to chai, but for me it reminds me of the gently spiced rice pudding my mother used to make. It is comforting, creamy and snuggly with just a gentle whisper of spice.

    Glasgow

This really doesn't smell like Glasgow - Glasgow smells of sour beer and stale cooking fat! This is far too pretty, very soft floral heather and almost creamy once it has dried but I don't pick up any blackberry which is a shame. It fades within the hour on me so it just doesn't have the staying power to use again.

    Thirteen (13): January 2012

Like everyone else I get a blast of chocolate and thyme to start, but on drydown I don't get woods I get the herbs, the Holy Basil in particular - which is good as that what what made me buy this one. There's still a back note of the cacao and a slight citrus note which I think is a muted ginger. Quite lovely.

    Smut

The amaretto hit when wet is intense, but I can also sense those cherries lurking in the background. It smoothes out when dry to the most delicious sultry musk that catapults it immediately into my top 5 scents, it's gorgeous and I feel gorgeous wearing it.

    The Vine

This is so beautiful ... in the bottle it's all juicy pear, if blindfolded I'd probably try to drink this! Wet I get the same wonderful juiciness but with a back note of pear drop acidity and the cream reminds me of 'Carnation' tinned cream that I had as a child on my tinned pears. I cannot keep my nose away from my wrist as it dries, it turns into a wonderful smooth balance between fresh pear and proper cream. Why, oh why, does it fade so quickly?

    Maison En Pain d’Épices

Wet and just on I get a bitter gingerbread overpowering everything else, which I really like. Sadly on me it dries down to something that reminds me of standing in a Christmas gift shop surrounded by varied holiday candles and the gingery smell has completely vanished

Shortcut to Exotic Places - Wanderlust Recs

Morocco and Whitechapel are wonderful as others have said, but I also love Jezirat al Tennyn (The Dragon’s Isle: smoke and fire, earth and wind. The rage of the elements blasting over a primordial paradise)as it has a wonderful smoky feel to it, it's complex and spicy and with a tiny fresher note.

    Dad Scents

I'd suggest No. 93 Engine from Steamworks - although I'm female and wear it, I think of it as quite masculine. I'm currently trying to decide whether it or The Antikythera Mechanism will be my next bottle buy.

Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect

DXXX/530 decant from salls In the imp All I get is overwhelming sweet fruityness Wet Strong juicyfruit bubblegum with maybe a faint hint of the spicer sort of eastern florals Dry The spicy florals come through a bit more, but still over sweet and far too fruity for me. Reminds me of one of Lush's first ever range of perfumes, which unhelpfully was just called 'Lush'
