    Arachnina, The Spider Girl (2006)

I love red musk, so I had to try Arachnina. However, it turned out to be vaguely perfume-y, as mentioned before. It could be dark and sophisticated on the right person, but to me it was blah. Not a keeper.

    Enraged Groundhog Musk

Oh wow, this went foul on me quickly. For one instant, is smells like the coffee scent in Misk U, then it quickly turns to moldy, rancid hazelnuts. This is just sickeningly icky on me.

    Death

Men's cologne. Old spice deodorant. Not for me. *shudder*

    Spider

Very clean, very uplifting, but then...poof! All gone. Nice, but not something I will come back to.

    Ace of Pentacles

This is very earthy, in the vein of Nocnitsa, but very damp and wet earthy. In fact, it turns to Beth's snow note on me--too cologne-y and cold. Oh well. If your skin doesn't amp it like mine and you like the earthy, woodsy scents, you may like this one.

    Mama-Ji

Mama-Ji starts out overwhelmingly floral on me, a bit too commercial perfume-y for my tastes. Then it starts to morph into more of a heady, deep scent. Though it's not listed as a note, I feel like I'm smelling opium. In fact, this reminds me of Chrysanthemum Moon, but without that horrifying old-lady-wetting-herself-note. It could be quite nice layered with a little vanilla or something sweet to anchor it down. I still don't know if this is quite me, but it's a lovely, womanly, sexy scent.

    Arachnina, The Spider Girl (2006)

Boy, this was just not good on me. When I first applied it, I smelled the red musk I love so much. Unfortunately, it quickly turned into generic musky-ambery-men's cologne nastiness. Bummer.

    Strangler Fig

Okay, so this is strange, but I put it out there because I know some of you have been looking for a scent that smells like the Burt's Bees Baby Bee lotion. Well on me, this is it. It's so strange, because I don't smell it when I put my nose directly to my wrist, but around me it smells like the Baby Bee lotion. Weird.

    Dee

So. Very. Men's cologne-y. I'm sorry, I just want it off of me. Now.

    Lycaon

Oh man! When I first put this on, it was all resins and musk, very nice and dark. Now it's just baby powder and it's giving me a headache. No beloved ginger. sadness.

    Yuki-Onna

Folks who don't normally do well with jasmine, take note: this is a really nice, fresh, natural smelling jasmine, not the heady, perfumy jasmine that can be far too much to bear. Though this may not sound like much of a compliment, it reminds me of the jasmine scent that used to come in the Love's Baby Soft perfume set. I loved that jasmine because it was so fresh and whole-flower (stem and all). Though this normally wouldn't be my kind of scent, I think I've really taken to it.

    Typhon

Another victim of Sarada's urging here! And boy, am I glad it got a bottle. For as snarky as I can be about "hippy shit," I sure love smelling like a head shop! This is that bad-ass record store with nag champa at the counter and Led Zeppelin and Pixies posters side by side. It's a sexy, resinous blend that definitely leans heavily on patchouli, but adds enough earthy woodsiness to make it really nice. A keeper for sure.

    Krampus

Sexy, sexy, stuff. It went a little powdery on me at the end, which bummed me out a bit, but it's worth trying again. And again. I agree with the magic of the dusty scent. It's pretty amazing. And the leather. Ooh, baby. This confirmed I really love red musk.

    Purple Phoenix

When I applied this, my husband was laying in bed still waking up. He sniffed and said, "that smells like grade school." I guess he thought Purple Phoenix smelled like Bonne Bell or something like that! While it is overpoweringly grapey from the get-go, I have to say it is more sophisticated than that assessment. However, the grapey, wine-iness of it is simply not for me. It would be lovely for those who love Wanda, Bordello, and Frumious Bandersnatch.

    Midnight Mass

Ooh, I really really like this, but it goes away so quickly! Perhaps I will try it again and SLATHER it and see what happens. The olfactory memory is truly astounding: sitting in St. Joesphat's Church in Philadelphia listening to a Polish/Latin mass while dozing on my Grandma's shoulder. Yummy, yummy church incense. So soothing and and quiet.

    Yule

I was expecting much more of a fresh pine and berry scent from this, but on me, it's overwhelmingly spicy in a potpourri kind of way. Not horrible, just meh. I think that my body just does not like these Yule scents for wearing, so perhaps I should try them in the oil burner and see how I like them.

    Jólasveinar

Wet, cool, damp, snowy forest. I think that those of you who miss Whippoorwill would love this one. I have to think on this one a bit before I decide if it's a good "me" scent, but oh my, the description is right on.

    Harvest Moon 2006

I just got this from a lovely forumite, and boy it's nice. It's very strange, but on me it is a combination of the only other two lunacies I tried this year--Hungry Ghost Moon and Chrysthanemum Moon. HGM, I liked and kept. Mum Moon, I wanted to work on me but it turned to rotting flesh. It's all of the parts I wanted to work in Mum Moon and all of the parts that did work in HGM. Very nice, indeed.

    Succubus

I don't really know how it's possible, since they share no notes in common, but this smells exactly like Aeval on my skin. And ick, I really hated Aeval. Perhpas mimosa is in the same family as sweet pea? Because it's the same sickly sweet I got from the sweet pea in Aeval and Mouse's Long and Sad Tale. Not for me.

    Somnus

Unfortunately, the lavender in this is the sharp, astringent cleaning product lavender, not the nice, calming lavender to me. It gives me headaches. No go. I think I'll try TKO.

    Bengal

Boy, I don't know what it is, but the cinnamon in this just grosses me out. It's not a synthetic Red Hots cinnamon, and it's not a warm cinnamon like in The Lion, it's like a weird, fake, cleaning product scent. I can't quite explain it, but it. does. not. agree. with. me. Bummer.

    The Lion

I can't really add much to what's already been said, but I do have to say this: Normally, Amber is just evil on me. Yucky, old lady-scent, powdery evil. But the amber in The Lion is such a delicious wonderful Amber. Yum.

    Death on a Pale Horse

This scent really surprised me! After trying The Bow and Crown of Conquest, I imagined that this would be an equally dark, masculine scent. And true enough, when I first applied it, I smelled vetiver, patchouli, and musk. As it developed over the day, it became very floral--it smelled very clean and fresh, like lavender and herbs. It was such an amazing scent turn around! On me, this becomes a very sophistcated, clear scent with powerful throw. Very elgant and feminine. What a surprise!

    The Apothecary

I'm always excited about scents with tea, and I was even more excited by The Apothecary's promise of a wet, mossy, grassy, woodsy scent. I imagined something akin to Nocnitsa but with more sweetness. Sadly, this was just soap and powder on me. The same soapy smell I got from Glasgow. Soap soap soap. Too sad.

    Baobhan Sith

I wanted it for the tea and grapefruit. The scent made me taste cleaning fluid in my mouth all day. Ick. I guess this will be swapped or used as a room scent. *sniff*
