When I read the description of this, I was sure I'd love it (mmmm, candied incense), but then I heard it was like Midway...which dismayed me. I'm not much of a foodie... In the bottle: candied incense. On my skin: same, but even moreso. I am truly in love. It's like I always wanted violets to smell like, but they don't. And some sanctified, but subtle smokiness that makes this sweet and holy simultaneously. This one I will buy in bottle form.

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)
tarotgirl99 replied to zillah37's topic in Carnaval Diabolique
I really wanted this to be THE ONE (BPAL-wise). The image on the bottle is so fetching, and I'm a professional tarot reader. But I intuited otherwise (okay, I read the ingredients...) and the bad news couldn't be gainsaid. In the vial this was Smut with a lighter edge of Snake Oil/Snake Charmer. But I still had hopes that it would be less Smutty and more Snaky when applied to my skin. But no. Smut would have its way with me, its plastic peanut buttery booziness destroying my wanna be snakiness. I eventually used alcohol to remove it. OTOH, Midnight on the Midway proved to be the loveliest scent ever. So I suppose it all evens out. -
I didn't order this (musk and I have issues), but then I began to regret it. moonarcana sent me an imp...and I began to worry before I got it. This seems like a very popular Moon, and I could tell serious groveling would be involved if I wanted to buy a bottle. So part of me was relieved when it was Aramis on me. I smelled my former step-father's scent and, while he's a lovely man, I don't want to smell like him. On me it is spicy and male...not me at all. Phew!

A floral, but one I really like. Gentle but not too perfumy-mundane. An innocent rose dominates. Smells like a young girl in love.

I love Cold Moon. I want to marry it. We are so different, yet we see the best in one another. And I can't get close enough to Cold Moon--I sniff Cold Moon constantly (and Cold Moon is all on top of me). Similar to Blue Moon, but colder, sharper. I could love Blue Moon more, but if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with. And I've never been able to resist the aloof ones. My wrist is still cold after all these minutes, yet when I inhale, there's sweetness, if not warmth.

This is my "social face of BPAL" scent. A creamy floral that couldn't offend anyone, yet keeps me sniffing my wrists in hedonistic pleasure. Ultra-feminine without being icky.

When things are really really bad, or I want to smell really really good, I turn to Honey SN. As others have said, if you love O, you'll love this. I love O... This is pure honey, untainted by amber or vanilla...but not too-sweet honey. Beeswax honey with layers. And as the day wears on, the sweetness lingers, reminding you with every waft that life holds sweetness, too. I could mainline this forever...if I had access to enough of it.

Night garden? Check. Mysterious, light, but powerful? Check. White florals, soft and milky? Check. Complex? Check. Enchanting? Check, check, check. Need a bottle? Check.

Extremely complex and interesting on application--I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. But within about ten minutes, it morphed into a golden fig, getting more and more figgy (as opposed to jiggy) as time went on. There's a golden quality to this as well, and occasionally a fang of chocolate or musk mini-bites my wrist. Then it fades to fig again and all is golden loveliness. It took me about two months to try this from the time I received it. Now I'm wondering what took me so long.

When I was in high school (way back in the day), Love was the perfumer of choice for many teenagers--and my favorite was Love's Musky Jasmine. I was besotted with the scent and would actually carry it to school. I was desolate when it was discontinued. Luna is the closest thing I've found to Love's Musky Jasmine--this is all jasmine with a touch of lotus instead of musk. Normally, lotus is pretty much gag-inducing on me, but for some reason, it behaves itself in Luna and isn't too far from the musk of yore. I love this scent for many reasons--its own aroma, but also the memories of my high school self.

Interesting how differently it smells on different people--reflective of its empowering nature? For me, it's kinda like O with some flowery and slightly spicy undertones. Since I love O, I like this very much...

I was recently fortunate enough to obtain an imp of Red Moon and as soon as I put it on, I smelled something VERY familiar and very beautiful. I loved it on first sniff, but I kept thinking, this reminds me of something. Finally it came to me--it has the warm glowy sweetness of Hollywood Babalon. The difference is that the light fruitiness is orange, not strawberry...I have never much liked strawberry scents and a friend of mine was determined to find one that I would like after I turned my nose up and against Strawberry Moon and Bon Vivant. I fell in love with Hollywood Babalon, but it could never be a gateway drug...because it's the amber and heliotrope that attract me, not the strawberry. Needless to say, I love Red Moon even more, because I prefer orange to strawberry. However, if you can't track down Red Moon but really love it, give Hollywood Babalon a try.

I can't believe how good this smells! I bought it for its properties and my Bruce Springsteen association with it...but it is sweet, light, enchanting. Floral and cool, but not cold.

On my first whiff...I got peace. Pure peace. When I come back to earth, I get lavender...and then violets. I don't like violet as a rule, but I like the way this makes me feel.

After reading the reviews of this, I was pretty sure I wouldn't like it. I was wrong. On me, it's a slightly sweet and pleasantly fruity scent. I don't get the pepper at all. It's like what I hoped Fruit Moon would be, but wasn't. I get no sharp or grape-y edges, as I do with Fruit Moon. But then, I am one of those people whose body likes--even loves--jasmine.

If March Hare and Katharina went on a blind date, they would arrive in Yerevan. This scent is more sophisticated than MH, more complex and subtle...but more understated than Katharina. It morphs, too, which I love. Fruity, a little spicy, a little floral. Yum. I really like this one.

On me, all rose, no narcissus. I'm surprised how much I love this one. Possibly my favorite rose ever. Great throw and it lasts and lasts. I'd be proud of it, but that would be so cliche.

In the bottle and initially on my skin this is honey with a fruity accent. Since I am a honey girl, this made me just reel from pleasure. Sadly, within a short time the honey went south...and all I could smell was cotton candy (grape cotton candy, at that). I will try this again, but I am so sad. Baby, baby...where did my honey go?

Thanks for the recommendations...I LOVE Water of Notre Dame--I think I'll wear it today (it's a tough day for me). I sent her Sea of Glass (which I also like), Jolly Roger, and Arachne...also Kitsune Tsuki. The last two aren't aquatic, but they are light. And Arachne is a very clean scent. I will try to get Niflheim for her.

A non-BPAL friend of mine likes clean, aquatic scents...I don't...so what would you recommend for her? Thanks in advance!

Warm, floral, with a touch of spicy booze, this is one of my favorite BPAL scents ever. Like others said, I don't understand why this isn't a staple on the lines of Dorian...It's rich and strong, but not overpowering. It's slightly fruity, but not remotely foodie. Great throw, too. Just bought a bottle and I can't wait for it to arrive!

I thought this would either be fiery passion or gently cool--lion or maiden, if you get my drift. But it's neither. It's the grassy space between the two of them--the outdoors, which can be peaceful or tumultuous. It's Beltane without the flowers. And it has me practically inhaling my arm whole, because it's such a perfectly drawn line between instinct and control.

When you need something comforting or cheering
tarotgirl99 replied to oakmoss's topic in Recommendations
Great question. For me, it's Honey Moon. I associate it with wonderful, special times, plus it was my first BPAL love. But if I need to get things done despite my mood, I think I'd put on Love in the Asylum. There's something about it that makes me feel ready for anything. -
Glorious and lush fruity floral richness...am I the only one who is reminded of Freak Show?

March Hare is amusing and delicious. I can't explain why, but it makes me smile every time I put it on.
