Cold Moon smells cold. Like a walk outside with crisp air on a foot of snow. How appropriate for it to arrive post-Blizzard. It also reminds me a bit of when you hang your laundry on the back porch midwinter. It's got a hint of aquatics, a hint of sweetness (but not very fruity), a hint of floral, and a predominant greenness. It is very reminiscent of Ice Queen without the pine... there is a bit of an edge that Ice Queen has on me and that is missing as well. I prefer it to Ice Queen, actually. Just a nice, light, lovely scent.

You are right, it's star anise. It smells clove-y to me though. -

Kabuki is CLOVE and CHERRY but it is very nice and clovey. It's one of my favourite intense BPAL scents. -
The Best Scents for Home, a Room, the Car...
VorpalBunny replied to amberbella's topic in Recommendations
Bumping this old topic because I got a fabulous oil burner in a swap. Skadi is nice if you can stand to use the precious for that. Kali is excellent -- it doesn't work well on me but smells great in the car. Any more ideas? -
I grew up near the ocean (and am a Pisces) and I could never live far from the ocean. A few hours is the most I can stand. So I feel your pain. Dragon's Tears reminds me a LOT of the ocean.

Lush to BPAL scent comparisons (BNever included too)

When I was wearing Florence yesterday, it struck me that it reminded me of some Lush soap, but I couldn't place which one. Any ideas? MAYBE it was Hollywood but it's been a long time since I tried it. -
Musky amber describes it pretty well. I get a hint of sweetness and a hint of almost vanilla. And maybe a hint of myrrh? There is something that reminds me vaguely of church incense and old books, but in a good way. It's not a scent I would wear every day, but I enjoy it. It's good for those days where you want to feel mysterious. I could see Catherine Linton having this scent outside the window of Wuthering Heights.

I love Has No Hanna; I can't believe I never reviewed it. It has a very white floral smell, kind of like tuberose, but with a hint of what smells almost like curry. (I know that's kind of crazy, but it really reminds me of curry.) I do think it's helped my mood a little on the days I've worn it.

Scentwise, Black Cat is really nice. On me, it is a mix of mint and roses. The mint is a smooth mint, not a sharp scent like some of the other mint-based scents can be. Voodoo power wise, it's hard to tell, since I tried this on a day where I was already really negative. It possibly made things less negative, but it's hard to gauge. I'll have to try it again on a more average day.

Oils with the strongest throw or sillage - the most noticeable scents
VorpalBunny replied to lunalight7's topic in Recommendations
I do notice a lot of oils are different. Some I could use a whole imp in a day, others I can only use a few drops or it's just too intense. Lilith is one that seems to have a lot of throw for me (I wore that today so that's why I am thinking about it.) -
I wanted to try this one because I love rose scents, and I love dragon's blood. On me, the wine sours the rose smell, and it smells like a bit off. It smells a bit like juicy rose, but has that touch of oddness from my skin chemistry. Not necessarily bad, but I like other rose scents better. It does have great staying power though.

I got an imp of this as a gift. I love patchouli, but until this one none of the patchouli blends (including Masquerade) worked on me. It's a wonderfully, lovely scent. Patchouli, with a hint of orange, and a hint of floral. Sensual, but not overpowering. Just a touch sweet, just enough to make it feminine without being cloying. I'm enjoying it a lot.
-
Ooh, so lovely! This isn't the strong cherry and clove scent of Kabuki, but rather a predominantly honey vanilla scent with the faintest touch of Dragon's Blood, cherry, musk, and the faintest clove. Everything is perfectly in balance. It is intense, yet light. Sweet, yet not cloying. It's going on my Top Ten.

Kitsune-Tsuki is very springy. It smells like daffodils. Nine Mysteries is herbal and makes me think of spring. Alice and Fae and even Blood Countess are nice light sweet springy/summery scents.
-
When this first goes on, Holy Mint, Batman! After a few minutes the mint calms down, and more of an herbal scent comes out. It smells like walking through an herb garden. I don't usually wear mint or green scents, but I am really liking this one. It doesn't turn sour on me like some other green scents do. It's pure and clean. I think I would like to wear this on a spring day, or another day where I want to have a nice clean feeling. I almost smell a hint of lavender, but I am not sure if that is my imagination. (It smells more like lavender stems than lavender blossoms.) This is how I wanted Chypre to smell on me (but it didn't).
-
Do I just need more coffee? A lovely forumite sent me Nine Mysteries as a gift and I was saving it to try... so now I want to put comments in my spreadsheet but I can't seem to figure out where it would go under. Should I just add a new tab?

Floral Recs for those who usually don't like florals
VorpalBunny replied to Neko's topic in Recommendations
Moon Rose Black Dahlia is white, but feminine Maybe Goneril Tiger Lily is a nice girly floral but a little bit sweet (since we are already swapping, if you haven't tried the last 3 and want a partial imp thrown in just let me know. I only have imps of those but would be willing to share enough so you could try them.) -
When this first goes on, it smells like I am wearing a Lindt hazelnut truffle. As it fades, it smells like a nice chocolate-scented perfume, as opposed to "OH MY GOD I AM COVERED IN CHOCOLATE!!!" (which is not bad, but probably not great for all day long). At first, it's reminiscent of the BBW Tutti Dolce chocolate lip gloss scent. I can't do foody every day, but I am definitely going to enjoy this one for special occasions.
-
Ooh, this is lovely. Out of the imp, I wasn't so sure, but I tried it, and it is a nice juicy berry scent without being too sweet or too bitter. The spices are faint and just add a nice roundness to it. On me, it smells a bit like commercial perfume, but this is one of the few that turns "perfumey" on me that I actually really like. I get a slight reminiscence of Desire for some reason, maybe there is a similar note somewhere?
-
I wasn't sure how this would be on me, since foody scents don't always work, but I had to try it anyway. OMG. Pure buttery hazelnut goodness. I couldn't wear this every day (and certainly wouldn't want to put it on before breakfast or it would kill me), but it is so fun. I don't get a lot of the chocolate scent, the hazelnut predominates, but it's OK with me that way. Not cloying at all, either.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Ooh, I was just thinking the same thing today when I put more Blood Countess on! -
I am more familiar with the smell of asiatic lilies than tiger lilies, so I can't say if it smells like tiger lilies. Mostly it smells like very spicy honey, with a bit of floral. I like it a lot, it's a nice warm scent, sweet and spicy. Feminine, but not overly floral. Sweet, but not cloying. Spicy, but not bitter. It has great staying power too, I put it on before work and didn't need to touch it up all day.
-
I was a little afraid of the spice, thinking it would be an intense Middle Eastern fragrance. When I tried it, it smells like honey and almonds (like a sweeter, honeyed Dana O'Shee), with a nice subtle spiciness to it. This is no Marrakesh spice market, but rather just a hint of spice, just enough to give it a light kick. It is a pleasant sweet scent, with a touch of foodiness (but not screaming it), and no sharpness or bitterness or sourness to it. I could see giving this one to a relative who likes subtler scents, I might give it to my mom if I hadn't just given her a huge pile of imps to try.
-
The Unicorn is very sweet and fruity when it first goes on, and then lightens to a light sweet floral. The flower notes are nice and light, without any sharpness to them (like some florals can have). The name is so apt; it definitely has a feeling of silvery-whiteness.

Yesterday I was wearing Wanda for a little while, and then put F54 on and thought.. hmm, Wanda reminds me a bit of F54.
