First Time BPAL-er looking for recs!

It can be overwhelming and some great recs here already. You can also go to the BPAL website and search a note and it will pull up all the scents that have said note in it....that way, you can see which might interest you. Then I would look at reviews on here....they are always very helpful!!

    Stray Poppy-Leaves Hair Gloss

Poppy leaves, tobacco leaves, mandrake root, and dried ivy. Always hard to be first....I will do my best since I really don't know what poppy leaves or mandrake really smell like! In decant: Sniffing this....I detect the ivy, which is a little sharp, but not eye watering. There is also that leaf smell. It is pleasant and herbal. In damp hair: At first, I almost got a hint of some floral....it was almost "old lady" smelling (if that makes sense?) but then it softened up quickly (good thing!). It turned into an almost sweet herbal leafy type scent. I do not get any tobacco anything out of this. After a few: It ended up being real nice! Kept the sweetness (maybe the poppy?) and a pleasant herbal-ness to it. I am one to not like green type scents but I really like this one. It surprisingly has a low throw and the scent seems to fade pretty quick, but this is nice for those who might have to work close with people and don't want to offend anyone! Also perfect for Spring/Summer!

    Pumpkin II (2014)

I got a tiny tester amount in a bottle. What a surprise! I never thought to try this because I am very afraid of patchouli! In the bottle: Yep, cinnamon and clove, but very balanced. They both seem to be evenly matched. One doesn't dominate the other. On skin: Ok, NOW the clove is beating up the cinnamon, but both still there. I think I get a little pumpkin in there, but not much. This is still crazy good! Dry down: As someone mentioned above, this is very sexy....a teeny foody, but not so much. I don't get tobacco and I can get a little hint of moss, but it is so wonderfully blended. Don't be afraid to try this if you are afraid of the patchouli like me. I don't get any, but I think all the notes are perfectly balanced and this is a perfect Halloween scent! A lovely surprise!!!!!

    Philologus

In the bottle - Yep, I also get that cologne-y scent everyone else is smelling, but there is something "dry" about it. On skin - Still has that cologne smell....not much else. Not getting wax, parchment, or incense. Dry down - Hmm, this isn't for me. Was hoping for more of a book/wax kind of scent. But just smells like a man's cologne. So, this would be good for a guy, not me.

    Olisbos

2013 version In bottle - a sharp herbal to my nose. Maybe that is wood? Olive oil? On skin - Stays pretty sharp and kind of "green". Green like vines, not like any plant that could smell aquatic, if that makes sense. Didn't expect it to be this way. Dry down - I also start to get a little bit of leather out of this, but I get more olive oil, and it is soft. But still, not really for me, sadly.

    Go to Sleep, Darlings

Like most others, in the bottle, I do see the comparison to Snow White.... it is lovely and soft, with a hint more mint to my nose. Sadly, when applied, it too, went to plastic on me in about 10 minutes! It smelled so good at first. Oh well... what can ya do?

    The Last Squished Jellybean

So, I got this as a frimp.....hard to tell what it smells like in the imp because another traveling imp leaked and got all over this, but still able to read the label to see it is this scent! On... I get a little cinnamon, but it isn't overpowering. I don't get licorice/anise like others are detecting. Smells just like a handful of stale jelly beans. Like the kind leftover from Easter that no one ate! I like this!! I am a foody fan so this fits to me. Not as sweet as you think it would be either. Very fun!

    Holliday Hair Gloss

Yeah....this is awesome! In the bottle....I get a rich, thick vanilla! I think it is the rum, but I don't get "boozy" out of this. On damp hair: Wow....this goes crazy for a quick second....thought I caught a quick whiff of licorice, but that quickly left (good thing!) but then I get the bourbon and the musk and vanilla ALL at once! Then the amber comes out and it morphs wonderfully! Stays vanilla with a hint of the rum and bourbon.... I don't get honey or gunsmoke, but SO glad I was able to get some of this!

    Laudanum Bonbon

LAUDANUM BONBON Nicely narcotic: bittersweet chocolate with nutmeg, sassafras, black poppy and myrrh. So, I am sure I probably smelled the GC of this, but don't remember if I liked it. But here goes with this one.... In imp: I don't smell any chocolate....just a harsh blast of sassafras and a hint of myrrh. On Skin: Pretty much stays the same. Sadly, I get zero chocolate from this. I think the other notes are just too powerful and drowns it out. Dry down: Gets a bit sharp....maybe that is the poppy?? Not sure, but to me, since I get no choco out of this, it is just the GC bottle scent.

    Chaos Theory VII: Gourmand

Swapped a friend for her gourmand bottle....#77 In the bottle: Yep, I get orange gingerbread smell! Could smell it before even opening it to sniff! Smells great! On skin: Yeah, it morphed on me as well.... I got spiced orange cake, a vanilla cake, then it toned down to a nice, soft spiced cookie! Dry down: Softens and stays to that lovely lightly gingerbread spiced cookie to me. She got maple syrup, but I don't! I am glad, since I had tried Pancake Breakfast and it didn't work for me, but that one smelled more grainy. This one is just right. Low throw, but stays close. Very happy with this one.

    The Crumpet Rebellion

Can't believe I was able to get a bottle of this in a swap!! Been wanting this for a long time and almost gave up! In bottle: I get a berry pastry. Yep, smells like a delicious crumpet. On skin: stays close to the skin, but I get the berry note, but it is berry jam....a little less pastry and more baking spice to it, but they are soft. Dry down: Stays the same and I really love this!! Medium throw to me, and it is foody to me. Anything berry-ish can either work for me or go completely plastic, but glad this one doesn't!! So happy!!!

    Chaos Theory VII: Gourmand

Got my bottle today, and yes...mine is also WAY full! Here goes...also see there are no numbers on these. In the bottle: I really don't know what I am smelling...but it is like a floral (?) even though this is a gourmand bottle. On skin: Ok....now this changes. Good thing, I was so not wanting a floral. Still hard to describe this. It is a bit sugary, bot not overly. It is like a cotton candy popcorn, but plain, no butter. That's the best way I can describe this. Dry down: stays the same but now that odd floral thing is emerging. It isn't strong, and I really have to huff this in order to smell it....but I guess this is a gourmand scent. Very fun, but not sure if it is for me, but will wait and see! Going to update this by saying the bottle number I got from the Lab is #9!

    Loved To Death

Got my bottle today.... Ok, if you are like me and have been wanting to find a beeswax/candle wax scent that works for you and does NOT smell like a cheap candle, go get this, and get it now! Came in a pitch black velvet pouch! In the bottle: I get the beeswax, a little vanilla, and some spice....but not tickle-your-nose kind from a kitchen cupboard. I know it says "cinnamon bark", but it seems softer. On skin: I immediately get the clove.....it is prominent, but not overbearing and strong that clove can be on me. It is surprisingly soft. I detect the vanilla. Dry down: OOOH this gets lovely! It warms up to an almost "cozy" kind of vanilla beeswax and a gentle clove. Reading other reviews, I was afraid of the honey everyone was detecting (I can't do honey!) but I don't get that at all. Light throw but it is, I think, going to age beautifully. It already is a winner as is...... don't hesitate to get this!! Total love!!

    Mikado Saloon Hair Gloss

OK!!! This is good! In the bottle, I get the scent of vanilla and very soft leather. In damp hair: Not sure what I am smelling, but I get a little vanilla, a hint of leather and mostly ambergris.... I think. Not sure what that exactly smells like on it's own, but I don't get bourbon out of this. The musk is very pale, which is good because musk isn't my friend! I have to say this is a great HG! I think this would smell amazing on guys too! I wish it smelled more like it does in the bottle as in my hair, but this is still a keeper! More for maybe Fall or Winter wear, but surprisingly a medium throw! If I had to rate it, I would give it 4 out of 5 stars!

    Snake Charmer Hair Gloss

Like others, I don't remember actually trying the Snake Charmer perfume oil, at least on....sniffed some, but never wore. BUT THIS.....is....so...GOOD!! In the bottle: Smells just like straight up Snake Oil, which is a good thing! On damp hair: It immediately turns into an exotic, lovely, scent!! I get the Snake Oil, but I also get the spices and plum! It is surprisingly light, but it is so amazing! After a few minutes, I get the coconut, but those of you who can't do coconut in some form (I am that person) this is so perfect. It isn't the suntan lotion coconut, but I think the blackened part of it makes it more alluring than beachy! If that makes sense! Hope you didn't miss out on this.....a great keeper and if it ages like the oils do, it will be even more breathtaking!!
  16. Myrrh and black roses. Usually floral notes are just SO NOT for me, but I was very curious about black rose...so here goes! In decant: sniffing this, I certainly get a dark, heavy rose note. The myrrh is sort of there....kind of detect it, but I get mostly that heavy rose. This isn't a soft rose either....hence the blackness of it! On: The myrrh comes out a bit more on the skin. The rose is still very much there, but I tend to amp florals, so at the moment, it is all rose, but it isn't too bad. This coming from someone who can't do rose notes!! Drydown: This just seems a nice balance of both notes. This smells like something you would wear to an old gorgeous stone cathedral.....for mass possibly! If you like rose notes, get this.....if you are afraid of the incense part, don't be.....it isn't overpowering, but has a nice throw as well!

    The Soldier

Got frimped a decant of this...been wanting to try it, since I like leather and the only scent that I liked out of some leather ones I have tried has been Western Diamondback, which I LOOVE! In decant: Creamy musk. Kind of afraid of musk since we sometimes don't get along. There is a bit of vanilla there. On skin: OH MY!! This warms up to such a wonderful vanilla/creamy leather! I don't get "pie" out of this, but something sweet keeps it balanced. But it is in no way foody to me. Dry down: This just gets amazing!! Had to buy a bottle from a seller. In my opinion, if you are a fan of Western Diamondback, you will love this! It is like a deeper, richer version of that. Heavenly!!

Enable my habit: What would you recommend?

Lots of great suggestions.... The Gorobble for marshmallow!! To me, the BEST marshmallow scent!! It's an LE so might be hard to find, but there ya go!

    Frankincense Clove Hair Gloss

Got a bottle of this with about an ounce left in it.... been wanting to try this. In bottle: Heavy to me....rich frankincense and clove. In damp hair: WHOA....don't know what other people are saying that this is light, but on me...heavy heavy clove! I get a hint of incense, but the clove is almost cloying. I usually like my hair glosses heavy so the scent will last on me, but this one would have been better on the lighter side! Too much for me right now. Yowza!

    Revenant Rhythm Hair Gloss

Oh WOW!! Ok....so, this review comes from someone who loathes the smell of patchouli! BUT I got a bottle of this HG because I know that Beth and crew have a way of making it not smell so.....dirty. In the bottle: A very yummy smoky vanilla! I do get the teeniest hint of something herbal, but it isn't "green" if that makes sense! In damp hair: OH MY! THIS is AMAZING!! I get the slightest bit of the hemp (and it is very tame and lovely) and that vanilla.....so amazing. It does have a smokiness to me....not like smoke from a fire, but toasted. DO not hesitate to get this while you can! HUGE win indeed!! Off to order another!

    Scents and colors

The first thing that pops into my mind is the Trading Post's Yule scent. Blue Snowballs - "Blueberry slush with a hint of lime and blackberry juice." Very fruity and BLUE!

    Halloween: Montreal

Well, since I totally fell in love with Halloween Las Vegas, I thought, I have to try this! In bottle: I get the smoke scent...and that hint of something sweet, but it isn't a candy sweet to me. Odd, I know. On skin: UGH....this does not play well with me. I get something sharp and medicinal!! Must be the "frosty air" or "leaves" notes, but this goes sharp and sour on me fast! Dry down: Still the same as above....was so hoping this was going to be smoky, sweet and pumpkin-y, but hey....they all can't be winners. Off it goes!

    Juniper Mint Hair Gloss

This is a lovely hair gloss. It is nice and light, but on me, it isn't too light where you can't smell it anymore after a couple minutes after applying. In decant: I can really smell both the fresh mint and the sharp juniper. I think this is a great combination since they both seem to balance each other out. In damp hair: Stays true....I get the whiff of both notes. I agree that this is light and clean but not smelling like laundry soap or fabric softener clean. Just fresh. This has a medium strength on me.....very nice. I tend to like my hg's strong, but this is just right. Especially for spring/summer when you might not want to wear something heavy.

    Gluhwein

Oh so sad! I so wanted to hope this would work for me. Every note is amazing except honey, so I was hoping the honey would take a back seat! In bottle: Yep....gooey, syrupy honey! Oh no! On skin: Gooey, syrupy honey!! Dru down: Nothing but HONEY!! I get no other notes! So sad. Off to the swap/sale pile!!

Coconut, Vanilla Bean and Tiare Hair Gloss

So.... This is so NOT for me! I think we can all agree that a scent can powerfully bring back memories....good, bad, happy, sad. This one instantly brought back a not too good memory!! Sad, because the notes all sound good, and I think this would have been nice except for the fact that it brought back a memory of when I was younger, I would baby-sit for a lady that lived in a run down trailer park. She had 2 wonderful boys, but she never had food in the house and she would leave at 6pm to go out and not come back until 4am, ON a SCHOOL night for me! Anyway, she had some cheap perfume and it smelled JUST like THIS hair gloss!! I never want to use the term "cheap" with anything that has to do with BPAL/BPTP scents, but for some reason, this is that lady's scent. Dollar store floral! It had a fizzy quality when I was applying it, but that went away fast and I got icky floral. Sorry......off to swaps/sales it goes!
