In the imp: Popcorn and pink sweetness. I would say the pink is more chewy than a light and airy spun sugar smells like to me, maybe it's a pink marshmallow? There's also a warm and slightly buttery vanilla. On me: Popcorn! I absolutely popcorn and this smells just like the real deal. It mingles with the sweetness of the spun sugar/marshmallow (that doesn't smell pink on me) very well and creates that perfect "air-of-a-carnival-fair"-smell. At this point I don't pick up any vanilla or woods. It stays sweet sugar and popcorn for a couple of hours and then the sugar takes over. I am a little sad that the pink aspect never showed up on my skin, but that's about the only negative I have for this.

In the imp: Smells like the champagne note in Bon Vivant but less sweet. Thalia also has a soapy smell. Like fancy Champagne soap! On me: Smells like champagne, you can almost feel the ticklish sensation of the carbonation in your nose. Thankfully the soapy note didn't transfer onto my skin! After just a minute or two a floral note makes an appearance (plumeria I presume) and it mingles with the bubbles. I honestly would have preferred no flower and I hope it goes away soon. The bubbles are almost gone after a while, the plumeria is still around and now Thalia almost smells creamy. It's nice, but not quite for me.

In the imp: Smells like bitter almonds (or artificial cherry). Next sniff is all green apples. I really don't like the smell of bitter almonds so I'm not sure that I like this combo very much. On me: Almonds! And then some spices flare up and disappear. After that green apple peels takes the wheel. The scent is fresh and crisp, but not juicy. I'm VERY happy that the almonds went away!! There's another note in here too that I can't really place.. Maybe that's the "tree"-part? Have not gotten any apple blossoms either. After keeping it on my skin for a while it changes again and this time I'm not sure what I'm smelling.. None of the listed notes fits what my nose is picking up. The apples never return to full force. I catch a whiff of it every once in a while for an hour and then it disappears, doesn't have long staying power on me.

2016 version In the decant: This is a weird smell... First sniff is vanilla and then.. Mint? Pine? A bit astringent and not at all what I expected from this. On me: So freaking weird. Pine and mint with an almost dusty smell. Vanilla is typically very dominant om my skin, so I'm surprised I don't smell any in here. There's also something that reads as commercial perfume, maybe alcohol-y? For a very short while the vanilla makes an appearance I get vanilla ice cream with pine. And then a blast of saffron. And then it goes back to dusty pine and mint. This is not at all what I expected and if it doesn't change with some aging, it is not for me.

In the decant: Strong, earthy scent. I have never smelled cannabis so I have no idea what that smells like. I do however smell patchouli and vanilla that is trying hard to struggle through the strong earthiness. On me: Super strong earthy patchouli. I also smell tobacco anda bit of.. coconut? There is a sweetness in this scent that isn't your typical vanilla or sugar. It's a very smokey coconut..But with a "moldy" twist. It's been sitting on my skin for over 30 minutes and there's still no chance. Meh. I really thought the vanilla would be more prominent.
-
In the decant: Pale lavender-purple, if that was a smell. Slightly floral, sweet and pleasant. On me: Florals, soft and purple. Reminds me of Prunella after the plum has settled to me. I can't really smell any of the other notes. When it starts to dry down the florals are dry like potpurri. The myrrh comes out to play, it often has a metallic twang to it and this is no exception. I get no vanilla whatsoever. After it's been sitting on my skin for about 30 minutes it's all potpurri and myrrh. Meh.

In the imp: First thing I smell is the patchouli with hints of... coconut? There's a smokey vanilla going on too. Honey doesn't smell like it usually does, this is not syrupy or goopy at all. On: Smokey patch and vanilla. I'm not smelling any honey at all (which usually show up quickly on me). But then there's a faint smell of Play D'oh that scares me and makes me think this shares the same honey as Womb Furie does, and if so this will smell horrible on me. After a couple of minutes I had to wash it off. It got so sweet and strong with the Play D'oh-honey that it made me nauseated. I also wonder if that type of honey always smell terrible on me, or if it has anything to do where I'm in my cycle when I try it? I shall have to test it again and report back.

In the imp: Honey! Thick and sticky honey at first sniff, with some bitter lime as a close second. It's nice, the bitterness cuts the sweetness of the honey. On: Thick honey, almost verging into Play Doh-territory, but the lime quickly swoopes in to save the day! I don't really get any lilac, which I'm not sure if I like or not. This is a much heavier and stronger scent than I imagined it. I thought it would be like White Rabbit (bright lime green and sunny springtime) but sadly it isn't. The lime gives up rather quickly, after about 5 minutes the only thing I smell is honey and vanilla. This sure has staying power though! To me this smells a lot like Capax Infiniti (without the lavender) or A Wonderful Light (but without the oranges). It's neat but nothing spectacular on me.

In the imp: A screeching sharp, soapy rose with a soft smokey background. The smoke is not sour like cigarettes, but it still gives me a mental image of some secretary wearing a rose perfume (or liking to wash her hands with a white rose soap) while working in a dark, smoke-filled room. On: One swipe on my wrist and the sharp rose is immediately there. For a second there was something else around, taming it. Probably was the vanilla, but it was short-lived. I really wish some of the other notes would have made the biggest appearance, they were the biggest reason why I bought this. I figured since it has both leather and bourbon vanilla I would be safe from soap-hell. I was wrong The sharp rose makes me incredibly tempted to wash this off, but I was so curious to see if any of the other notes would ever make an appearance that I let it stay. 2 and a half hour later The Book smells gorgeous! No leather, but lovely rose marshmallows with vanilla confectioner's sugar. It makes me sad that it took SO long for it to be this pretty.

In the imp: Strong rose, pretty soapy. Smells like the rose is lightly coloured.. Like white or cream. On me: SOAP! Holy heck, this is a white soap. Come on rose, don't leave me like this! I have even started to like some rose-scents, don't do this to me now Unfortunately Elizabeth never changed from the white soap-stage. After putting it on my skin there was not even a trace or rose left, just soap. Darn it.

I've been trying out rose-heavy scents to try and finally find the right one for me. In the imp: When sniffed directly from the mailbox it smelled like a big red rose with a strong touch of leather. After it's been resting for a couple of days it smells very different. For half a second it's a big rose, and then it goes super strong soap! There's the leather trying to break through but the soap is STRONG. On: Not even a rose soap, it's just plain and white. Leather is typically a very strong note but not even that can break through here. 30 min after applying and we're still a big white soap. Over an hour later the soap FINALLY gives up the spotlight and the rose comes out stronger. I'm however not really a fan of waiting over an hour for a scent to become wearable.

In the bottle: A lovely sugary lemon. Not as bright as, let's say Sticky Bat. The colour I see when I smell this is more of a light peach tan bright yellow. There might be some floral in here too, like a soapy rose. But it's not strong enough to bother me. On: Bright and fruity. Reminds me a lot of another butterfly-scent that I own but this could be a little more mellow. Lemon is the most dominant of the notes, really thought the rose would try to take the throne (like it always does). It stays the same, mellow lemony scent for as long as it stays on my skin. Which isn't long I might add. After 3 hours it's completely gone. Very pretty for spring/summer days.

#85 In the bottle: This is so hard without any notes to look at. citrus? Mango? It's some form of fruit, that I know for sure. I want to say it's a tropical fruit as well, it's not your typical orange, lemon or grapefruit. What does BPAL's mango-note smell like? I sniffed the only bpal I have that has listed mango, but it doesn't smell like this, nor does any other bpal that I've ever smelled. There's an almost non-existent chocolate note in here as well. Which is odd, because the bottle has a big, thick sludge in the bottle (typical for chocolate scents) but even after rolling the bottle for several minutes there's no change at all in the smell. On: Oil looks colourless, a tiny bit of the "chocolate"-sludge followed. It smells really strong of alcohol. Like an alcoholic beverage with torpical fruit flavour. I thought for a while that it reminded me of Golden Wave, but nope - not the same. Maybe there's some peach involved too? On my skin it smells exactly like in the bottle, no change at all. I'm gonna retest this.

In the bottle: Coconut cake! With cream and some nice sweetness. It's kind of light, but knowing my head it might be a one-way ticket to migraine city if I apply this on a hot day (note: it was a hot day when I tested this, 90F). On: Very much cake but not overly buttery, which is often my main issue with all scents containing "cake". I also get a lemon twist that freshens it up a little. A white sponge cake with lemon juice. The cake-aspect wears off rather quickly and what's left on my skin is creamy and light. Ivory Vulva faded incredibly fast on me. The cake laster for a couple of minutes and then there was the creamy and sweet scent with a lemon twist that lasted for about 2 hours. I will try this again to see if it will last longer.

I'm a Leo, so of course I had to go for this! In the bottle: It's very perfumey with strong accents of amber. I'm not sure whether I also smell the frankincense or the walnut bark. It's very strong and ....smooth? On: Chamomile is the first note that jumps towards me, and then it gets strangely fruity. Is it the walnut bark that makes this fruity? I know that saffron typically smells like yeast on me and tends to amp, but here I don't smell it at all. I really thought Leo would be more warm and dry than what it is.. A couple of minutes in there's a woody grass-scent. I guess that's the bark and the chamomile that mixed together, and those are the two most dominant notes. I will try this again and if it hasn't changed I'll probably swap it.

In the imp: A soft floral nestled in men's cologne. It's aqquatic, and not really my thing. On: Wet grasses and light smoke. A chemical smell emerges, like....rubber? or oil? Wet rubber! Wet rubber that later shifts to smell more like a flower. No male cologne, but still not my kind of scent,

2015-version. In the imp: Sweet and mild lemon. It's lovely pale yellow and makes me think of early spring or summer. On: Lemon zing and vanilla softness. In the imp it is so careful and mild but on my skin the lemon has a bite to it. There is something swirling around to help the lemon get milder, but I can't put my finger on what. None of the listed notes seem to fit, as most of them has a strong scent on its own and this is very gentle. One side of my wrist smell sweeter and more like apricots while the other has the bite of lemon. About 15 minutes later there's a dab of coconut. CD doesn't change much at all. I get teeny tiny rose and musk in the sweet mix, but the big star here is the lemon/apricots. Nice and soft, good for a warm spring day or summer.

2015-version. In the imp: Very sweet. I smell vanilla and grapefruits, very sugary and bright. This also has a faint floral aspect, I can't decide if it's the tea or the fougere that I smell. On: just like in the imp it is super sweet and for some reason it reminds me a lot of Gobo. Even thought Gobo was more citrusy, they share the vanilla sweetness. As this sits on my skin it also reminds me of Blood Pearl. Why, I really don't know. And then my nemesis Jasmine pokes its ugly face out which of course means that I get a slight headache. I really wanted to love Theodosius, but it is sadly the first of the Carnaval scents that doesn't work on me
-
In the imp: Green and bright. It's not a juicy smell, more like taking a sniff of an apple right before you first bite into it. Very life-like. On: The same bright scent, but the more it warms up on my skin, the redder and sweeter the apple gets. After a couple of minutes it smells like a red apple, mixed with honey and milk. Those last two notes are not my kind of thing at all. An hour after applyingI smell red apples and faint tea leaves. It's okay. Not long after that the scent is completely gone. It's nice, I loved the green apple that started off the scent, but the rest felt kinda "meh". I have better apple heavy bpals than this.

In the bottle: Fresh and cool. Apples that smell crisp and green and very closely joined by a pink rose. I get the feeling of dawn and springtime, everything is light and airy. The rose smells like the same kind from Love, but not as sugary and young. This is like the mature and grown up-version of it. I also think I smell a bit of mint, which really suits this blend perfectly (and I love mint)! If I keep sniffing the bottle there's definitely some orange and a herbal kick from the lavender. It smells absolutely great in the bottle! On: huh... This smells just like the brand of mosquito repellent roll-on stick that we've used in my family since I was a kid. It might sound horrible to some, but I've always loved the smell of it and gone to sniff the stick when I can. It reminds me of warm summer nights of my childhood, late night barbecue by the lakeside and eating strawberry pie out on the balcony while watching "Midsomer Murders" during summer holidays. This scent really evoked strong memories with me, and I'm sooo happy about it! But enough about my childhood, the rose comes out stronger and stays the most dominant note for about 2 hours. After that the apples come out to play and they rule side by side, pink and green for another two hours before it softens. The last hour of Lacus Bonitatis consists of a gentle dusting of honey powder (by powder I mean that the honey is dry and not liquid and sticky) laced with vanilla. I wasn't sure that this was going to work for me, and I tend to skip most lunacies that are released. This was a complete win for me, both because it helped me remember good times in my life and that it's a rose that I can wear without feeling like an old lady or a fancy soap. For me it's closely related to Love, but a more mature version with less sugar.

In the bottle: This smells like fabric. Which is really strange! i also smell vanilla and... berries? Is it berries? It's like berries but not. I think I can smell ambergris too, although I don't have many scents with it - so I might be confusing it with something else. The scent is cold and there's a faint memory of tobacco. Ooooh, the "berries" might actually be the Immortelle! Something about this reminds me of spending a few childhood vacations at a cottage by the seaside. On: It smells very clean, but modest. It's not in-your-face-soapy, more like newly washed and dried. It most definitely must be the Immortelle that I smelled earlier, it's very floral. I can also smell vanilla and tobacco, which I have to say plays very nicely in this! tobacco is usually very strong and sour on me, but here it works nicely and stays in the background. It's a very cold scent, like a dress that's been forgotten in the wardrobe for years. OH!! It smells like VIOLETS!! For about an hour it smells like straight up violets and then all that's left is vanilla and something like fabric. It's a very odd scent and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

In the imp: Oh wow. what IS that? It's like.. currants without being currants, wintery without being spicy or cold. If that makes any sense at all? It's manly for 2 seconds before swiftly changing. It reminds me of Variety of Pleasing Amusements, but as far as I can see they don't share notes with eachother. On: Berries, honey, manly and clean. Whirling together, it's such an odd combo but it works! I bet this will smell Godly on a man! It still reminds me of VoPA and it's absolutely wonderful! I really need a man in my life to test this on! I like it very much and if I can't snag myself someone to wear it for me, I'll just have to do it myself.
-
In the imp: First it smells like old lady, it's floral and very sharp. It's not at all what I like. But then I smell some orange-tasting gummy candies which smells absolutely fantastic! That's exactly what I'm looking for here. On: There's that old lady again. Why can't she never leave me alone?! I've just recovered from a cold while testing this so my nose might be out of shape... but something smells very much like cinnamon. and then iron! I know I disliked Baba Yaga because of the iron part, but this is WORSE! Holy world this is strong straight up metal! It's making me feel really ill, it's not at all what I had imagined from this. Usually I don't have big issues with either red patchouli nor orange blossom, so I'm wondering where it's coming from? It smells pretty good after an hour. Like warm oranges with a touch of cinnamon, I want to like this, I really do, but the iron made me feel too sick. The oil also stained my skin yellow for quite some time.
-
In the bottle: Buttery vanilla! Must be some spices in here too because for some odd reason the buttery vanilla is very Christmas-y. Can't pinpoint what kind of spices either.. It's not cinnamon or ginger. On: Licorice! One dot on my wrist is usually enough for me to test a scent, but this is really faint. I guess the licorice is supposed to be the leather? It's been sitting on my hand for ten minutes and nothing has changed. Still a licorice/leather and somewhat Christmas spicy. An hour later it still hasn't changed. Something about this gives me a vision of climbing up to the attic and looking through boxes filled with Christmas decorations. No clue why, since it's not dusty or desolate. It's pretty cozy! A couple of hours later it's a soft vanilla leather and a tiny smidge of tobacco. It's actually very pretty and I like it! It hasn't been foodie or heavy and the buttery vanilla thankfully never made an appearance on me.

With the new Chaos Theories around I wanted to dig up the one decant I have of a previous CT This is CMXV In the imp: Musky and red. What on Earth is that? It's so hard when you don't have any notes to back up what you think you're smelling and so far I haven't been able to find a previous review for this (I mean, someone must own the bottle!) The longer I sniff it the closer it gets to Mme. Moriarty. I'm thinking it's the red musk + vanilla bean that I'm reminded by. I really like Mme, so this might be awesome! On: Sugary musk and cinnamon. That only lasts for a couple of seconds before it smells like watered down tea. Chai tea. As it dries further it gets more peppery, but it still has that bleak watered down-quality to it. I wonder if carnations are involved? It kinda reminds me of Morocco.. Or Chimera. Not exactly what I want though, especially the watered down part. I wish the sugary musk and cinnamon would have stayed, that was the best part!
