    Rigorous Love

To my nose: The first thing that pops up is the coconut and anise. It smells exactly like a candy I used to like as a kid. It's like a big version of the yellow "wheel" found in English Allsorts Licorice. So it's a bar of black licorice, coated in that soft yellow, sugary paste and then rolled in coconut flakes. That is the only thing I smell. On: Anise is the most prominent thing, and then the lemongrass slowly pops it's head up. The longer it sits on my skin the less noticable the licorice gets. And it's very interesting! If I try really hard I can smell the coconut, but it's very faint. It's like you're squeezing lemons while covered in sunlotion and eating English Allsorts a bright summerday. Because really, who doesn't do that? And i know it's odd, but it smells very much like summer to me. Twenty minutes in: I think I can smell the orchid now. Or at least I smell vanilla and licorice now. It stays like that for another ten minutes. And then I smell sand all of a sudden?! I think that the mix between coconut, licorice and vanilla made it smell like warm sand at the beach? And I have no idea what mimosa or balsam smells like, but there's a floral undertone to the sand. I left it on and for another hour all I could smell was coconut and floral vanilla. And fice hours later all that was left was a very faint, powdery vanilla.
  2. To my nose: I...Uh.. don't really know what the eff is going on here.. I smell manly lemons with vanilla and tobacco. Yes, you read it. Manly lemons. They're real, believe me. On: The tobacco is strong in this one. But so is the vanilla. I don't really know why, but I have this weird imagination that I like tobacco in my scents, even though I know that it will make me smell an ashtray or a burning campfire. And of course I'm right about it once again. The tobacco in Antikythera Mechanism doesn't do what I want it to do. I want it to add a little something, you know? Provide a smoothness that helps blending all the notes together without loosing their egde, or tone down the sweetness of some notes. But no, it doesn't work. It smells like a sweet and woody ashtray on me. I can totally see this being rocked by powerful men and women, people who can take that smokyness and turn it into something beautiful that works just right. Sadly, I'm not one of them. After about an hour: Hm.. While it still has "ashtray" written all over it there is now some creamyness coming from the vanilla. But the ashtray is just too much

    Phobos

To my nose: Now we're talking lemons here! This is some serious juicy lemon, the kind that makes your entire face cringe becuase it it just so sooooour! Just the kind of lemon scent I love! On: The same really juicy lemon, but it's slowly mellowing out. I happen to really like citrus when it comes to scents, so i'm ejoying this one! And.. I don't know if it's the oil but I got itchy where I dabbed the oil. It might be just normal and random itchiness, but I'll have to test it again to be sure. After about an hour: Phobos has calmed down a notch, but it's still a gorgeous lemon and I really like it. Despite the itchyness.

    Mad Hatter

To my nose: Not even half a second of lemon before MINT arrives. Mint? Why on Earth am I smelling mint here? ...Oh. After a quick google search I found that pennyroyal is a member of the mint family. Did not know that. On: Oh yes. This is minty! It's both soft and sweet but at the same time a sharp mint. It's like a candy cane or a breath mint. I also think that there is some vanilla involved here. And by that I don't mean the buttery-warm vanilla that instantly makes me nauseous and gives me a migraine but a cool hint-of-coconut-vanilla that I actually like a lot! After ten minutes: I only smell the gorgeous minty vanilla. After another 25 minutes: The mint settles down and the vanilla comes out more, with some woodiness added. This is just what I wanted Dorain to smell like, and what I mix Dorian and How Doth the Little Crocodile to get = a nice, sweet and woody vanilla! This is good you guys!

    Kathmandu

To my nose: Instantly I smell cedar and a sweet floral - that must be the lotus I think? On: When I apply it to the back of my hand I get a swift whiff of sandalwood before the cedar takes over. And just like in other blends, cedar smells like pencil shavings on my skin - which I don't care for at all. After it has calmed itself down a notch I'm not really sure what I'm smelling. It almost seems sweet and minty. i don't get any saffron or sandalwood at all which is sad because I really like both of those notes. i was hoping Kathmandu would be all warm spice and kinda snuggly-ish but it's actually sweet on me. I detect a tiny little stick of incense in the back, but it isn't strong enough to break through all the sweetness. Sadly.

    Zombi

To my nose: Straight up soapy roses and lemon. I ALWAYS get lemon with my roses. Why do roses smell like lemons? Why?! I do not understand it! On: Zombi starts off just like in the imp, but after about half a minute it gets harsher and the lemon gets bitter and sharp. It doesn't take too long before it mellows out again though, and when it does it smells very close to the "Fainting Couch" atmo spray from BPTP. I really though that the dirt would be more in-your-face and very prominent, but so far I haven't catched a single whiff of it. Odd. An hour later and there's still no dirt here. I'm surprised but happy about it!

    Black Hellebore

To my nose: I smell roses and a sickly sweet and heavy floral together with it. It's kinda like some dishsoap, but it's dark and "dirty". On me: Super heavy sweet floral, but mixed with some greens. It's really sweet and almost thick when you smell it. The longer I'm letting it sit on my skin the more powdery it gets. It does remind me though of some fancy soap that my grandmother used to have. But No, heavy sweet and powdery florals are so not my thing.

What BPAL would this fictional character wear?

May I just say that this thread is awesome? Mass Effect for the WIN! My shep is a Paragon vanguard, but with some trouble controlling her emotions at times. I too see her wearing Mme. Moriarty or Smut for that matter (need to seduce Garrus in the heat of the fight)! and for some reason I think of The Robotic Scarab when I think of Garrus. The metallic notes, leather and (I totally forgot it also has "thin lubricating oils" in it...) warmth of it really seems to suit his cuddleable personality . If a Bioware line (or Mass EFfect only for that matter) ever came out I'd have to say goodbye to my wallet, it would be something I NEED all bottles of.

    Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)

To my nose: It smells kinda manly in the decant. The patchouli is there and also something "red" which I believe would be the pomegranate and plum. It's not very sweet either, which makes me a bit afraid. On: Oh..This is actually pretty. I thought this would be much more incense-y, which is why I haven't been looking much in Moriarty's direction. I have no idea why this scent seems familiar, nor am I completely sure of what it smells like. I can smell patchouli, and some dark fruits (not dried or anything, just..dark). I think the vanilla is rounding it out, and it's a smokey vanilla! Not cool and coconutty, not warm and buttery, but smokey. It stays like this so far, dark fruits with smokey vanilla. For some reason I really would like to smell this on a man. I think it would be gorgeous and mouth-watering. Four hours later: and this is still beautiful. The smokeyness left the show and now the vanilla is so soft and sweet, and also the most prominent thing left. A little bit of musk and sometimes I can still smell a bit of red fruit, but it's msotly the soft and sweet vanilla. I can still smell it 8-10 hours later, that comforting and soft vanilla is all that is left. After 11 hours I'm sad to see it gone. I might need a bottle of this. I think however that Moriarty will give me migraines on really hot days, but on cold days provide a warming blanket of dark fruits and smokey vanilla.

    Follow Me Boy

To my nose: Ugh, smells like..pee? And then it turned moretowards lemon. On me: Lemon and flowers. I think it's Jasmine actually. Nottoo bad but not the best kind of smell to me either. An hour later: Smells like soap. I haven't tried this in a man's presence yet, but when I do I will update this review on my luck.

    Delirium

To my nose: Rosy apples! On me: Delicious, tart, juicy green apples, swirled with pink roses. Smells very summery and fresh. Then the lemon emerges, but takes the backseat for now. The apples dies fast, too fast if you ask me,and it's now lemon and roses. Fifteen minutes later: Lemon and roses. I wantmore of those apples, darn it!! Two hours later: lemony roses. I quite like lemony roses. It smells very freshand clean, and somehow summery. But I want more of those apples in thebeginning of Delirium. It made my mouth water for a bit!

    Blood Kiss

To my nose: Musk! and clove, I think. It's not atypical spicy clove.. But a dry and smokey one. On me: Vanilla and honey goodness (just like AWonderful Light) but darkened with vetiver and musk. The sad part is that thevetiver in Blood Kiss is not the "good" one, it's the "I wantwant you to smell like an ashtray" one. 5 minutes to an hour later: Ashtray with cherriesto begin with, then the cherries went away. After a while of ash tray-iness theclove and vanilla decided to come out and play and they are still here with thesmokey vetiver. I feel quite "meh" about it, it's not the delicious blend I thought it would be. I blame vetiver!

    Embalming Fluid

To my nose: I smell more of a lime or grapefruit than lemon. It's very bitter. Dishsoapy.. On me: It's fresh.. But bitter. I think I've had ashowerscrub with this scent, from IKEA. I feel very "meh" about thisone. Two wordpuzzles and a Mass Effect Multiplayerround later: Still that bitter "meh". I had hopes for this one. Thought it would be verylight and summery fresh. But it's too bitter for my taste so I'm quite sad. Maybe age will make it better?

    Perversion

To my nose: Coconut and booze. It is not the same type ofbooze as in Smut, this actually smells like rum. On me: The first thing that popped into my head was: Beachparty. The party turned wild and your coconut sunscreened body is now alsocovered in sticky, rum-based drinks. I do not know why this image is in myhead, but it is. I get the tonka, that's trying to discreetly sneak in withoutanyone knowing. And then Perversion turns more masculine. A man moving close toyour sticky body (dancing?), and you can smell his leathery cologne.. Two wordpuzzles and a Mass Effect Multiplayer round later:Coconut and rum, no question. A touch of leather is in the background. Well, Perversion is really what I would describe as"Naughty". In more than one way. If you wear it out one night, Ithink you would feel like the sexiest person in the room. Wear it in thebedroom: WHAM! You are now a dangerous sex goddess, without a doubt. This issuch a keeper! And, I was recently given a lipbalm with a toffee/coconut-smell that goes GREAT with Perversion!

    O

To my nose: Smellsjust like A Wonderful Light does in the bottle. Creamy, thick honey and vanilla! On me: It'ssooo honeysweet. I get a tad of alcohol in this one wet. I hope it will settle into the samelovely creamyness that AWL has! After a few minutes: Almostnauseating sweet, but it works great with the woodiness coming from Velvet! Hours later: O doesn't change at all on my skin. It just warms up, gets all cozy and stuff. Itdoes smell just like AWL on me, warm smooth vanilla and honey all day long! Ican still smell it 10 hours later.

    The Music of Erich Zahn

To my nose: There is something hazelnutty about this.. On me: This is black, smokey, burnt vetiver. The kind of vetiver that turns into really burnt coffee on my skin. Ugh. That is really all I can say, I don't get any of the other notes at all. After half an hour: Smells like an old, cold candle. Stearine again. Why skin, WHY do you want to smell like a candle?!
  17. Missy_killer

    Incantation

To my nose: It reminds me of my father...and my father's cousins summerhouse near a lake in Skåne (south Sweden), where I've spent most of my summers. On me: Surpricingly light and lemony, and the vetiver is behaving nicely in this one! It has a cleaning fluid-feeling to it but not too "in your face"..It's a lovely unisex scent! Not too dark, not too light. I like it.
  18. Missy_killer

    Black Forest

To my nose: It's pine-y, that's for sure! On me: Pine is what I smell the most, but there is somethingthat has a slight lemon touch here too..the cypress maybe? It's also quiteminty, but I guess that's just the pine trying to fool me into believing thereis mint in here. I like this one actually, it's very relaxing and calming tome. After a while I get sugar and vanilla from this. What?! Sugar, vanilla anda teeny, tiny hint of pine! It's smells really good actually. Two hours or so later: This sounds so weird, but I get marshmallows in here. And pine. Marshmallows & pine. Delicious. Of course, my skin likes stuff directly from the mailbox better than a rested imp/bottle. The second time I tried Black Forest, I did not get any sugar or marshmallows. BooHoo.
  19. There isn't really any "to my nose" here, since it's in a spray bottle I couldn't smell a thing when I got it. On me: Starts of really heavy and dark, with an alcohol notethat burns off quickly. I don't really get any notes, but it makes me think ofa garden. After a while this really has potential of being something I like:smells like really deep red fruits (I suspect the pomegranate). Both sweet anda little sour. Unfortunately that part only lasts for a couple of minutes, thenthe ylang-ylang takes over and crushes this scent for me. It turned into somethingvery heady and headache-y. That being said, this is NOT a perfume for me. I get a headache just looking at the bottle, and will probably never wear this. Off to a better, loving home it is!

    L’Eau de L’Engouement Bath Oil

To my nose: I recognize this strawberry scent fromwhen I was a kid and used The Body Shop's Strawberry showergel! This is that, but with an orange twist. On me: There has to be oranges in this, because on me, that's all I can smell for a very long time. And not sweet oranges either, more like the bitter peel. That made me a little sad, because I thought it would smell more like the perfume (sour candy-strawberries), but none the less, I will love my bottle!

    Bittersweet Chocolate Bath Oil

To my nose: DELICOUS! It's like brownie batter ina bottle!! Seriously, I want to drink this. On me: Oh my God. I smell like I'm made of browniebatter and I think a starving person would chew my arm of if he/she smelled meright now. It is unbelieveable how it can be a moist, ready-to-go-in-the-panbatter of brownines with extra chocolate! This should be sold in hugecontainers. I will take extremely good care of my tiny bottle. Yep, this one is soooooo good! I wish it could become a GC-bath oil. That would be amazing!! Edited: Almost a year has passed and Bittersweet Chocolate has changed a little bit from aging. It isn't a bad change though! I just used it today as an after-shower moisturizer, and wow. It started off heavy on the chocolate, nice and rich like it should be. As soon as the oil hit my skin it started morphing in to peanut butter/peanut brittle with chocolate. Maybe it was the warmth of my skin from the shower that helped creating the peanuts, becuase when I stepped out from the shower they left. The chocolate got another partner, soft and fluffy like a marshmallow that stuck around for a couple of minutes, before bringing out some newly baked cookies to join the party. The oil has now sunken in completely and most of the chocolate is gone. If I sniff the right place on my arm I can still detect it, but it's mostly the soft marshmallows and cookies.

    L’Essence de L’Engouement

To my nose: HELLO pinkchewysugarystrawberry goodness! On me: Delicious pink candy! There really isn't anything else to say, it's just like I thought it would be. It's not syrupy/caramel-y, more cotton candy-ish and has a slight hint of strawberry to it. I want pink cotton candy now.. After a while: It is still very sweet, but I get this tart "sour candy" smell too, which breaks the super-sweetness and makes it very wearable for me. I am extremely happy to say that L'essence de L'engouement does not give me a migraine. Not even on those days when I feel that one is very close. It is also in my top three favorite BPALs! Edit: I thought I had written this, but apparently I forgot, this blend has successfully become my favorite and most used oil. It's suitable on hot days and cold days, it always makes me feel pretty and I've gotten compliments on it (which rarely happens).

    Tintagel

In the imp: I smell mulled wine, musk and a little leather peeking through. It's just as good as I thought it would be! On me: There is Dragon's blood in here, so I'm very nervous when putting it on my skin. Will it be amazing or turn in to cheap lipsticks?..It is amazing! Haha! I still get mulled wine, and the other notes keep the DB in check, making it add some sweetness to the blend but no florals After about twenty minutes: Huh, smells like a good tea actually. After two hours: Gone. I wish it could have a little better staying power, but I really like it! I knew from the first time I ever heard of Tintagel that I would like it. But when I found out that Dragon's Blood works horribly on my skin, I was afraid it would make this one smell like cheap makeup. Thankfully, every other note in Tintagel drowns the DB, so I can use it!

    Twinkle, Twinkle Little Bat

In the imp: Watermelon. But even though this melon is doing everything it can to smell authentic, this is a synthetic watermelon. I'm so sorry melon..I really am. On me: Synthetic watermelon that looses it's mind and gets all crazy and candy-like on my skin. But then.. my opinions are divided. First tryout (directly after I got it in the mail, no time for rest): The watermelon leaves the party really early and instead I get green tea & lemon, delicious! However, after an hour the scent is completely gone. Second tryout (after one full day of resting after the journey to Sweden): The watermelon is staying a little longer, it doesn't really want to go yet, but when it does it leaves something horrific behind. A cavity inducing sweet and heavy perfume, like the cheap knockoff perfumes that you can find in supermarkets that smell like you mixed syrup and chemicals. It just doesn't want to go away! I had to wash it off pretty quickly or I would have gotten such a migraine.

    Ouija

This was a such bizarre scent to me. It really feels like it's trying to tell you a story, or that you are looking back at a memory..I feel like writing when I smell this! Anyway, on to the review: In the imp: Hm.. The picture in my head is telling me about a chain smoker who, for some reason, felt the need to pour a giant bottle of root beer over himself (yes, I believe it is a man) while smoking. OR He is chewing about ten or twenty Jenka bubbelgums (who smell and taste just like root beer) while one cigarette burns out after the other. On me: The smoker disappears, but the room he was in is left. You can smell the smoke that lingers in the walls, it feels lonely and dusty. After a few minutes: The scent is changing. Someone opened up a window to air out all the old smoke and roses are being placed here and there in the room to give the room a more habitable smell and some warmth. Half an hour later: The roses get some company from other flowers now, not sure what they are though. Despite all the flowers it doesn't go too sharp, sweet or old lady-like. A few hours later: The room is gone and the flowers fade away, just like if the "memory" is being forgotten or the picture crumbles of age. I'm left with just a faint whiff of sweetened skin.
