    Drink Me

in the vial it smells like...butter. it reminds me of the time me and a friend went to the movies (to see x-men to be exact) and got a huge tub of popcorn and drenched it in butter. we even got a cup and filled it with butter to add more as we ate the top layers. we came out of the theater nauseous and grease-stained and my friend claimed she felt like she was going to burp up a giant butterbubble ..... but anyhoo. butter. yes. and i put a bit on and it smells exactly like buttered popcorn jellybellies taste. then as it dries down? i get milk moon ('05 is it?) except less cheesy/diapery smelling.

    The Smiling Spider

in the bottle is smells of straight up bitter cloves. i dab a goodly bit on my skin and indeed, it smells like the taste of clove cigarettes...enough so that i start to crave a good clove ciggie, even though i swore off the things years ago (a bad case of pneumonia will do that to ya). as it dries down it starts to develop a warm, goldenness and after about two hours? ::fans self:: this is a need-a-cold-shower scent. warm and musky with a hint of almost-amber and faint patchouli with the clove hiding behind all that. this is a black-satin-sheets-and-lots-of-candles-and-ravishing-peter steele-until-he-begs-for-mercy type of scent. oh my! i have the urge to track down a pretty twentysomething goth boi and have my wicked way with him *ahem* but here is the funny thing~i wore this scent to work today and i had to stop at my mom's on the way to help her medicate her cat (definately a two person job!) and my mom is a devout patchouli-hater. as in all the patchouli fields in the world should be razed, the earth scorched and covered with salt so the patchouli can grow no more. and you know what my mom said? "ooh! you smell really nice this morning!" *dies laughing*

    Bien Loin D'Ici

mmmmm. middle eastern perfumes, night queen incense and lurking underneath, glimpses of sweet honey and caramel. it starts off as a light floral incense......reminiscent of night queen. as it dries down i'm still getting curls of the incense, but wrapped around an exotic spicy musk perfume. sniff a bit harder and i get a touch of the sweets. exotic, divinely beautiful and just the right amount of depth......not too light nor too heavy.

    Priala, the Human Phoenix (2006)

my imp of priala was a happy surprise i found in my bpalanonymous swap package: wet it is nothing but smoke, a la djinn or brimstone. at first i think that this will be one that i will have to scrub off as it isn't all that pleasant. but as it dries down? pure love! cinnamon/clove, but not enough to burn or redden my skin, and warm incense-y notes. still a hint of that smoke in the background, but not overpowering. definately a warm red-gold scent. i'm adding this one to my big-bottle wishlist

    Mama-Ji

i sampled this at a meet n sniff and had to buy a bottle immediately wet, a floral bouquet. as it dries down i get rosewater and creamy spices, a resiny incense similar to sri lanka. this is a nice, light blend.....it won't overpower during the hot months ahead, and it is lovely, warm and sexy. if you love scherezade or sri lanka do give this one a try!

    King Cobra (2006)

i sampled this one at a recent meet n sniff and had to rush home afterwards to order a bottle. this is snake oil's darker sister. she wears tattered black cobweb lace and wraps herself in dusty threadbare purple velvet, studded with gilded spangles. in the bottle i get something reminiscent of the cracked bell. as it dries on my skin it turns into snake oil, but a darker, mellower snake oil that lacks the bite that snake oil has, and it is overlaid with the sweet dryness of orris. after a hour or two the resins come out to play.....it smells like taking fresh frankincense and copal nuggets and rubbing them between your fingers warm it and bring out the scent~ and lurking underneath that is the shadow of the snake oil.

    Chaos Theory III: Strange Attractors

woot! i arrived home to find a total surprise in my mail.....i had been gifted with a bottle of CTIII~XX. in the bottle, it is sweet and boozy smelling. i slathered some on and mmmm, honey pure, sweet honey. as it dries down i keep huffing my arm and i get smoke, creamy vanilla, and incense. very snake-oilish. but better. if you rubbed snake oil and incense on your arm and then let the smoke from a campfire settle over the whole lot. perfection! Svadhinaopatika

*squeals* immediately i get sandalwood and hooooooney. oh, yeah. honey, and then as it dries i get hints of powdery amber~ this smells like pale golden dust. glorious stuff! and as i sniff more i get a faint green underneath, hiding and peeking out every now and again. this is a very comforting scent......it brings me a feeling of contentment as i smell my wrist.

    Chintamani-Dhupa

it starts out sharp woods and resins, in the same vein as cathedral, midnight mass and penitance, though much, much sweeter~though not a cloying sweetness. drydown, it is still the lovely woods and resins, much mellowed, with hints of flowers and indian incense, honey and the ghost of something almost lemony. i picture a room filled with incense smoke, lit by candles. the room is draped with dusky purple and pink satins and brocades, mirrors on the wall. you lie on a large comfy bed strewn with flower petals, eating baklava and turkish delight.......

    Saw-Scaled Viper

in the bottle it is a sharp, sharp cassia......so sharp it hurts. wet on the skin it settles to a hot cinnamon, like a red hot hard candy but upon drydown it settles to a warm swirl of cinnamon/ ginger/smoky vanilla snake oil. with each sniff i take of my arm i get a nicely balanced blend of all the scents, you can distinctly smell everything but nothing is competing or overpowering the other components. glorious!

    Smut

i got my bottle of smut '07 in the mail today :insert squee here: and i'm happy to say that i like it even better than last years'~ it seems to be lighter, less boozy and more of a sweet sugared musk, very much more like scherezade than last years' smut. it doesn't have that down and dirtyness that smut '06 had....that smell that made you question whether or not it was appropriate to wear for work or visiting great grandmother.

BPAL scents appropriate for very young children?

my 8 year old daughter is either neutral to the preciousss or rolls her eyes when another package comes in the mail (sometimes i think she is a changeling or something she is so unlike me!) but she did finally find a scent she rather likes.........Bordello! ::laughs:: it smells like cotton candy on her.

    Discussion of all things Amber

the bottle of Sin i got recently has an amazing amber scent once it dries down............it smells just like the chunks of amber resin you can buy (only better and richer)
