    Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)

Red musk, vanilla bean, pomegranate, patchouli leaf and wild plum. On me, this darkly beautiful scent is deep and resinous, with occasional wafts of plum. Sexy, seductive, and full-bottle worthy! Loved every sniff!

    Resurrection of the Flesh

Incense, flowers and sweet fruit, pleasant but didn't last long on my skin. I had high hopes for this since I love copal and frankincense. Ylang-ylang isn't top on my list, but it really doesn't stand out here.

Satan And Death With Sin Intervening

This is my favorite of the Salons and my favorite BPAL scent so far! This is a fascinating mix of resinous, bright and floral/spicy notes. I don't get solemn darkness or anything somber, but it is a well-gounded scent with a nice balance of "flavors". This could be an exotic liqueur you've never heard of, or an incense with orange peel burning in the background while you dance happily in celebration. Though orange peel is not listed here, there is a definite citrus something in the mix. On me this is very rich and feminine, I'm definitely buying a bottle. Yes, I'm talking about "Satan & Death with Sin Intervening".

    Lucretia

Lucretia smells like a well-crafted vintage perfume to me: a rich, powdery floral that could have been an evening scent in Victorian times.

    Orpheus

Orpheus is very fresh and green, it reminds me of a mens colgne and springtime. For me, I would have preferred a stronger bitter note and perhaps more citrus.

    Pink Phoenix

What a nice surpise! Not something I thought I would love - wet it smells like fruity pink bubble gum. But on me, it develops into something comforting, slightly sweet and floral but not cloying, I think this might be my favorite BPAL!

    Jazz Funeral

This dried almost immediately to a sweet bouquet of flowers, with a touch of powder. Once I think I detected what might be rum (probably the bourbon). Over time, the powderiness intensified, started tickling my nose and made me sneeze. Back to the swap pile! Loved this in the bottle - I could smell more greenery.

    Hellcat

Wet, Hellcat smelled strongly of rum - like the rum extract used in baking, heavy on the alcohol. That faded quickly, and as it dried Hellcat bloomed into a heady lush figgy sexy scent. It was quite strong, and I'm not sure I'm ready for something that heady, but it definitely surprised me and could be devestating on the right person!

    Geek

This is a warm, spicy and sweet scent, not what comes to mind when one thinks of geek (a geek? some geek?) but a nice composition. It started off reminding me of the spiciness of carnation, as it dried more of the warm base came out, I may smell a touch of the cedar in here, and once, I think I caught a whiff of pine. The warmth makes me think of amber, though I don't think that's in here, but my overall impression is a spicy woodsy floral and not necessarily anything masculine.

    Endymion

I have a hard time thinking of this as gender neutral, to me it is a beautiful white floral scent amplified by the sweet pear. It makes me think of sunlight in a garden, with a woman in a white dress dancing through the flowers suffused with her own happiness. It didn't last long on me, only an hour or two, so I guess I'll have to refresh.

    Black Pearl

I love the notes in Black Pearl - coconut, iris, musk and hazelnut. On my skin it dried to a cocnut-musky scent, the hazelnut never really came out. I wonder if aging will srtengthen the hazelnut, I have some aged Vice and 13 where the hazelnut has bloomed into a sweet, mellow bouquet. I'm keeping this, but I wish it did last longer on me.

    Old Scratch

I so wanted to love this. It is interesting in the bottle. On my skin, it dried into something herby with a top note of sweaty, groping panting man that didn't seem to go away. I don't have a DH or DB to try this on so I can't tell you if the sweaty-man note is better on an actual man, sweaty or not. I didn't have any luck with another Victorian-style fougere, Villain, either, although it is fresher and doesn't have that sweaty note.

    Elegba

On me, Elegba is a very sweet rum on top of pleasant fresh greens. Sometimes the greens come out a bit more, but on my skin the rum was dominant. I never got any other notes. It is pleasant, but not my favorite.

    White Rabbit

This very strange - I put some White Rabbit on my chest and wrists before I went to bed, and in the morning I had bites on those very spots! Spiders, maybe? Anyway, it's obvious I'm not the only one who thinks this is a delicious blend. I want to soak in it (just not before bed!). On me it all blends into subtle yumminess, with the tea note popping up now and then.
