XDVIII - I can't for the life of me pick out a single note in this one. It's spicy but somehow very clean. WTH?
-
CDLXIX - Mmm, apples! Similar to the apple in The Hesprides, but greener and without the wood note. This is fresh, juicy and lovely.
-
DVIII - A very lightly spicy cake-y, foody scent that kinda smells like yellow cake. It's light, pleasant and very wearable. DXXXV - Mints! This is different to Lick It, and there's something in there behind the mint kick that reminds me of Ice Queen. It's the slightly creamy note, I think.
-
All three of these are very different. Eat Me is very, very foody. To me, it comes off a little bit like Monster Bait: Underbed without the cassia, and a little heavier overall. It smells like cake to me. The kind of cake you eat and then feel bloated and fat, but it tasted so good! Antique Lace is a refined, lightly musky vanilla, and I tried Mouse's Long and Sad Tale based on the comparisons some people made in reviews.. But. I don't find them to be very similar at all. I get very, very little vanilla out of Mouse and it to be more of a light, sweet floral. They're all good scents, but Eat Me is definitely for people who like foody perfumes (although to me it's lighter than most of the other gourmand cake scents), and Mouse's Long and Sad Tale is a very wearable light floral, while Antique Lace is just overall loveliness.

I looove surprises, so of course, I'm crazy about Chaos Theories! That said, I'm always wary of getting a nasty surprise but so far I've never had one. They may not always be exactly to my taste, but Chaos Theories are almost always *good*. CLXXXVII - GINGER. And very realistic, too, light and sharp with a perfumey note in the background. Light and sexy. This is an absolute winner! CVIII - Something soapy get slightly milky and floral. What is it? It smells very clean and cystalline, though. LVII - I'm terrible with notes. This is a very light, white scent to my nose. CXXXV - A warm, non specific floral that's very pretty in the bottle but turns to Glade air freshener on my skin. Bah. CCLXXIV - Creamy cherry vanilla incense. That may sound like a sucky combination, but noooo. It's really lovely. These were for my decant circle, so I'm dying to see what everyone else thinks of them! I was hoping for something dark, smoky and sexy.. but I have more bottles on the way, so we'll have to wait and see.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the Convergence Labels and some of the others. But Budding Moon and Hungry Ghost Moon have been amongst my recent favorites. You do a great job!

As much as Doc Buzzard is darkly spicy and masculine, Voodoo Queen is incense-spicy and very feminine. It's weird because the two scents actually share some similarities wet, but turn out completely different. Now, I have to start out by saying that Gypsy Queen did nothing for me. At all. Voodoo Queen smells exactly how I expected. Incense, but the smoke is sweeter and somehow just *better* than GQ. There's a perfume-y note in there that blends with the incense to make for a very, very sexy scent. If I was planning a seduction, I'd definitely make sure I had an imp of Voodoo Queen to hand.

I thought that Storyville would be my favorite of the 3 Convergence exclusives, but Doc Buzzard and Voodoo Queen have both bowled me over. I'm so, so sad that they're so rare, because they're easily my favorite BPAL blends ever.. Hell, the 3 of them probably rank amongst the best perfumes I've ever smelled, in my book. It's very hard for me to pick out individual notes in Doc Buzzard, but it's overwhelmingly masculine and dark spicy-sexy. I don't think I could even handle letting my husband wear this. It's *that* good. It's herbal, but that's usually a bad thing and it's definitely not in this case. It's got something in there that's very faintly sweet, and a whiff of smoke that manages to be totally devoid of the tobacco association I usually get from smoke notes. This stuff is GOOD.

I have the perfume and body products from the FretNot line, and I have to say.. that smell doesn't last very long at all. In any case, what helps me with my chronic worrying is White Light (TAL). It's literally taken a load off my mind many a time. It's one of those things I must have a bottle of at all times.

I have to say, I wish the Lab would always use either Macha's gorgeous artwork, or a plain text label. I've become so spoiled by some of the beautiful labels that sometimes the others just don't measure up.

Haha! As soon as I saw the HGM label, I thought of Oliver Twist, too!

I've taken photographs of Litha, Et Lux Fuit and Hungry Ghost Moon, if anyone's interested. I didn't know whether I should post links or not.

Let me first start off by saying I *adore* Eat Me. It's the perfect gourmand blend for people who aren't always crazy for foody scents, because there's no butter or sickening sweetness here. Just cake, a thin coating of frosting with a scattering of currants. It's absolutely delicious! This definitely made it onto my 5ml list.

Once again, lavender kills a blend for me. In the imp, this was all cherry and I had no idea the evil lavender was lurking in the background, but as soon as I dabbed it on... *sigh* It smells vaguely medicinal on me instead of the pretty, light cherry I was hoping for.

In the vial, this smells exactly like the description. I get a mental picture of white flowers floating in a pool of saltwater, and while it's not a OMG scent for me, I think it could be very pretty on the right person. BTW, I don't get any spicy florals here at all. On my skin, this turns to pure dryer sheets with a touch of margarita salt. Smells much better in the imp than on me, so I think I'll pass this along.

I'm so glad that I bought this unsniffed! Usually, I'm on the losing end of those gambles, but this time it definitely paid off. Mouse's Long and Sad Tale[/b] is really pretty and very wearable on me with a surprising amount of staying power. I don't get much vanilla from it to be honest, and overall, it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but it's still beautiful. I was expecting something richer and creamier along similar lines to Pink Sugar. Instead, the florals are the strongest here for me, but it's sweet pea.. a little stronger and sweeter than actual sweet peas, but I adore it all the same. It's ultimately girly without being a dry or over the top floral (which is usually my downfall with a lot of the BPAL florals). I love it!

BPAL scents appropriate for very young children?
GypsyRoseRed replied to beetiger's topic in Recommendations
My two year old daughter G absolutely adores BPAL, and has ever since I got my first batch of imps. She loves to sniff them and sometimes she'll tell me what they smell like - "cookies", "choccie-lick", flowers, princess etc. She once spilled an entire bottle of Bliss on herself trying to smell it and she didn't have a bad skin reaction although I wouldn't like to risk it with any of the oils with more complex ingredients.. I don't ever let her touch or smell imps without me supervising and I actually keep all of my bottle and vials in a locked box just in case. Right now, I let her wear a few drops of Tiger Lily, Bliss, and Regan. She really loves sniffing her wrist and holding it out for others to test. -
I wasn't a fan of Skadi or Talvikuu, so I didn't expect to like Ice Queen at all. In the imp, this is all pine/spruce-y, but interestingly enough that fades and smoothes out on the skin, becomes almost slightly creamy and very pretty. If I close my eyes, Ice Queen reminds me of sledding in winter on the hill at the edge of the woods.. and that almost freaks me out a little. It's not the loveliest of Beth's creations, but this has something in it that evokes the scent of winter in the woods. As much as I hate pine scents, I'd wear this for sure if it wasn't so darn rare.

This blend really fits it's name for me, because whenever I catch a whiff of it, it always manages to make me smile. The creamy grapefruitiness of it really works as a subtle pick-me-up as well as smelling delicious.

First off, this is a really sexy, unique perfume and while it may fall into the same boozy/sweet category as Smut and Red Lantern, I don't think they're at all similar. Both of those two become very heavy and sickeningly sweet with notes that I'm not fond of at all (tobacco!) coming to the forefront on me. By contrast, Storyville is (on me, at least) surprisingly elegant and lovely . I smell booze, but it's definitely a shot of the good stuff and the sweetness is all yummy pralines instead of a gallon of syrup. There's another note in there that may be tobacco, but it's not the yucky smoke I get from other blends. Overall, I think it's beautiful, sophisticated and somehow smells expensive. I'd give a non-vital organ for a 5ml of this, but unfortunately I don't think that's going to be enough.

I wholeheartedly agree with yeahbutnobut's description - this is Beaver Moon + blackberry yumminess = absolutely fucking GORGEOUS. There's definitely that creamy cheesy note blended with sweetness that makes Beaver Moon so distinctive, but the blackberry note is really amped on my skin. Closet has tons of throw, and I have to be careful how much of this I dab on or it becomes a little overpowering. I decided to test this out of the house yesterday and had this incident in the grocery store - RANDOM GUY BEHIND ME AT CHECKOUT - What's that smell? CASHIER - I don't know, but I smell it, too. It's good. GUY IN LINE - What is it? I wanna eat it. ME - Umm.. It's not this, is it? (holds out wrist tentatively) GUY IN LINE - YES. What the hell is that? ME - It doesn't matter. The company doesn't make it anymore. (smiles) Bwahahahaha.

This one really broke my heart. It smelled like rich, dark plummy goodness in the bottle, and I completely missed the earth note. As soon as I tried it on my wrist, it turned to spoiling fruit. Not sexy. I would have *loved* this without the earthiness.

I dithered on this scent, and ended up not buying Underbed at last month's will call so I was interested to try it again when my decanted imps arrived today. I don't see cinnamon in the scent description, so now I'm wondering if cassia is similar (pardon my ignorance!) because on my skin, dry, this smells exactly how I'd hoped Gingerbread Poppett would be.. and it wasn't. Rich foody, gingery, cinnamony goodness. Unfortunately for me (but fortunately Paypal and bank balance) I'm allergic to something in this and I had a really bad skin reaction. Raised red welts with a burning sensation everywhere I dabbed the oil. *pout*

Hmm. Reading the other reviews in this thread, I'm not sure whether any of them are for the 2006 version, but my experience of Beltane (06) was very different..In the bottle, it comes across as very natural and fresh, slightly sweet and reminds me of freshly cut blades of grass and some kind of small flower.. chamomile, maybe? That doesn't really change on the skin, it just becomes softer. If I can sum up Beltane, it's as a warm breeze over a newly mown lawn of green grass, with just a few little flowers..
