  1. Ooh, I like this one. I don't remember if I ever got this as an imp before. I know I have been curious, being that Marchen is a favorite world of mine, and very nostalgic as The Little Wooden Doll was my first bottle purchase from Black Pheonix.

To me it's very yellow and pink, very pretty, it smells like lipstick. There's an almost candle wax thing going on too, the scent is very round. A little fruity. That might be the myrrh, which is a note that mystifies me.

This is on my next to buy GC list, I could see wearing this on many occasions where I want to be soft and pretty and Nice Mommy, tempering the Actual Mommy, who has a lot of tattoos and a ring in her nose.

  2. Heavens to Mergatroid, I have no clue why there is any of this stuff left at the Lab...it's because the description says "motor oil" and many I am sure like me clutched the pearls and said oh my...and moved on to other more gentile things...that said I bought this for my gear head Jim Jarmusch/Black Pheonix lovin' son thinking ok right up his alley. But, of course I had to test it before gifting, duh...

WOW. This is amazing. I need 14 bottles. This is beautiful black musk with incense (I should learn anything with black musk = buy here in BPAL land) with some beefy throw and lasting power.

This. Is going right in the cart in my follow up Yule order.

  3. This is the only other Lick It I have besides this years (2014) and I am down to the last quarter of a bottle.

I have a feeling I would love any of this series, I really enjoy the skin cooling feeling with this. I wore it a lot in the summer, and also paired it with Gelt, to be a mint chocolate thing.

To anyone having their own personal weather system, especially at night, this is a very pleasant relief...it's cool and sweet without being baked goods, or too cloying. Fresh and relaxing.

I could not see being without a Lick It...

  4. I guess I should learn that when the first ingredient is Black Musk, I should just buy it and not ask questions.

I got Streets of Detroit for my son for Xmas, and of course had to try it, wow. It's amazing, I need my own. It was straight up incense, like the kind in The Diamond's Gong but stronger, to me.

He took it out and tried just a drop on, and I could smell it, and I was sitting about four feet away. zomg amazing.

  5. Lawd have mercy this is gorgeous...I thought Silkybat was amazing, I didn't really get how the snow stuff was going to go with the Silkybat, but yes, it goes. And it stays! I smell it in my hair hours later. So. Good. Trust me, you need 3 bottles.

Edit!!! I am not one of those people who regularly says, oh I put a drop of this on and I still smell it after two showers...I am a notorious slathering oil-eater, who regularly says, huh, can't smell this one at all, BUT...two days later and I can still smell the snow note of this in my hair...gosh it's awesome.

  6. Really really happy I got this one. It's quite dark and sophisticated, what it ultimately reminded me of was a grown up Scrappy Damsel.

Wet it starts off with a sharpish almost olive fruity scent, like red wine. It drys down to something very lush. I am a huge cinnamon fan, but the cassia in this is not like the sweeter cinnamon in Playful Wooden Mallets, it's more of a dry spicey cinnamon. It does as the previous reviewer said, have a "magical " oil feeling, in fact I feel like the middle phase smells almost like my money mojo bag when it is scented with Prosperity from TAL.

This oil has great staying power, and does go through really nice changes. I got a little nervous because it felt warm on some parts of my skin and I was afraid that like Chimera or Harlot I was going to be skin sensitive to it and not be able to wear it, but it never hit that ouch burning phase, it remained just warm, and I reapplied a few times in the same spots.

It does smell nice for right now, it's warm and spicy. This smells how potpourri would smell if Beth made it, really spicy and not vile.

  7. The perfected winter rose, dew covered and freshly cut.

So. I never could wear Rose Red as a perfume oil. There is something in it that mixes with my skin chemistry and turns bad. I lose that sweet rose top note, and am left with despair. I ordered Rose Red HG hoping that the top note would stay, and was not disappointed. I now have the perfect HG for all my rosy needs. Rose Red is beautiful, and very strong. Rose lovers, buy this, hoard it. It is lovely.

  8. Thank you everyone for your reviews, so happy I have this. I know there will be days where the candy goodness of this will be perfect.

Can I just edit to say that this single note is not a single note really, it starts off obnoxious cherry (which I love) with Dragon's Blood and eases into a DB softened by the cherry candy. I am so surprised by how much I love this one, it may break my No Backups rule.

I have been looking for the perfect Dragon's Blood, most of them disappear like poof for me, even my beloved RIP Dragon's Reverie was gone in a half hour, but this one lasts, and morphs beautifully.

  9. Mary Read, it's in Bewitching Brews : Salt air, ocean mist, aged patchouli, sarsaparilla, watered-down rum, leather-tinged musk, and a spray of gunpowder.

I really love this one, the patchouli is a light grounding element here. It's very nicely blended, the sarsaparilla just giving a tinge of sweetness.

  10. This is a nice red musk, playing well with everything else, not just stomping around and taking over.

Edit : I don't get it. Clearly it was fine when I got it, but after resting a couple weeks, it's turned into pure evil. All I smell is that top note of molasses from Black Taffetta, and herbal who knows what, like the same thing as Witch's Garden, frimps of which have gone straight into the oil burner. Blergh. This is so sad...I had to dig up my sales thread for this one.

  11. Never having tried the fabled Banshee Beat, I cannot chime in, but this is good stuff. Good. Sweet, but very fresh, not cloying. Everything melds into a nice cool incense. Win.

I do get the Feed me and Fill Me comparison but that one is sharper to my nose. This one is rounder. It starts off with that creamy thick fuzzy thing like Tombeur (the most amazing BPAL, ever.)

It is however light, and sometimes I will end up throwing something heavier on top, like, um, Tombeur...

Cannot smell the cinnamon to save my life however. This may lead to layering with Playful Wooden Mallets. The other most amazing BPAL ever.

  12. Guh. where has this been all my life??? Why has this been kept from me until now????? It's so goooooooooooooddddddddddd...

It's thick rich nose tickling cake frosting, with incense and boozeyness. What the heck. I LOVE this. It drys down to something thick and sweet. love love love.

  13. Whoa. This is awesome. It's familiar but very hard to nail down. Thank heavens, no anise or licorice, just very round vanilla wet, that morphs into an amazing incense perfume. This smells like Greenwich Village in the 1970's to me, it's very evocative, sort of stormy and wet, but also sophisticated and cool. Creamy somewhere too. This is what Mick Jagger's scarf would have smelled like walking down Christopher Street by Seventh Avenue in 1972. Gorgeous.

  14. You might not agree with the leather note in Kubla Khan, it's pretty strong.

I notice you like lush, heavy scents, why not try Urd or Skuld? I think they are the unsung heros of BPAL...IMO of course.

And yes, Diamond's Gong is winning, I vote that too, it has a very nice inscensey vibe to it.

Oh yes, and Midnight Mass is an amazing Frankincense, it's very deep and lasting. Quite amazing. It's out with the Yules now.

  15. There is a very prominent note that exists both in The Wretched Rose Window (a Weenie from 12?) and Stardust from last years Yules. In Wretched Rose Window it's slightly less prominent than the rose, but it's right out front in Stardust. I can't figure it out because TWR does not have an "ingredient list" just a spooky description.

This note is very plush and rich, and smells exactly like something in a Jurlique cream I used to use. It feels old-timey to me, I have no clue what it is and would love to ID it so I will be able to pounce on anything else with it.

I am hoping one of you people who write those amazing detailed reviews completely unlike mine (which read either Good! Stella like perfume! It smells like win! or Bleech WTF is this fresh hell in a bottle) can help me...please????
