BPAL's food notes are total hit-or-miss propositions for me; either they're divine or they smell abysmal on me. This is the latter. It went on like rancid butter (no joke), and dried to an acrid, weirdly spiced scent. It was horrific. Obviously, not for me. ::sigh::

When I smelled this in the imp, I was loath to touch it to my skin. It smelled acrid and bitter, not something that I'd want on me. But I was brave, and dabbed a bit on. As it dried, the acrid note disappeared underneath a bloom of creamy raspberry scent, until it was completely gone. Now it smells like a sweet raspberry. It's a little too girly for me, I'm afraid.

In the imp, this was a very 'commercial' smelling fragrance. On my skin, it turned immediately to powder.

Miskatonic University is my sure-fire, nearly everyone goes insane over it scent. Others that have garnered good reactions: 1. White Rabbit 2. Mercury 3. Smut

If you like florals, you'd love this. On me, it smells of honeysuckle and lavender. Pretty, if a little strong. Unfortunately, I am just not a florals kind of person, so I'll be swapping.

On my skin, wet or dry, this is a very sharp tea scent; it smells like tea that's been allowed to steep too long. ::sigh:: This is the first tea-based fragrance that didn't smell good on me. Off to swap.

When I first put it on, all I could smell was sharp red cherry. It was nice, if a little loud. Then the cherry faded out as it dried, and now it smells kind of perfumey, and VERY VERY LOUD. The dry scent is mostly carnation and musk, and it smells very like a commercial perfume (which means it's a no-go for me.) Why do the scents I dislike always have such a big throw? ::scrubs arm a third time::

I figured I'd either love this scent or hate it utterly. When I cracked the lid of the bottle, I swooned. Picture me, crossing my fingers, saying, "Oh, please let this smell as good on my skin as it does in the bottle". When I first applied, there was a rush of sweet, sweet pine, almost sugary in tone, but with a darker base underneath. In a few minutes, it had morphed and changed into a wet hillside, full of dark herbs and sharp air. I was afraid it would wind up being too masculine, but it suddenly bloomed into sweet, sharp cranberries, so juicy I can taste them in my mouth. Wow. This is a complex, brilliant scent. ::sniffs wrist:: (The only down side is that it seems to be inflaming my sinuses. Ow. Woe.)

This was a sour citrus smell with a hint of mint lurking beneath. Sadly, it made me seriously ill when I applied it to my pulse points - mostly from my stomach being all flippy when I wore it. I don't believe it is the oil for me.

This was a beautiful, clear fragrance that was in fact very calming. It was refreshing, but I couldn't begin to pinpoint what the notes where. As it faded, I detected the scent of sugared lemon. It's definitely a keeper.

Chaos Theory III: CCCXLVIII (348) I traded for this with another forum member. She described it as a 'smoky rose'. When I opened it, I thought, "Why does this remind me of going to the hair salon?" Well, once I put it on my skin, I knew why. Hairspray. It smells like nothing but hairspray on me. ::sad sigh:: Off to swap. Previously reviewed by sookster.

This is a very light, refreshing scent of bamboo and white tea. In fact, on my skin, it smells like a dead ringer for Kumiho. Not my thing, but my daughter should love it.

When you need something comforting or cheering

I find that White Rabbit is my 'comfort scent'. Mild and sweet and calming. But your mileage may vary. -
In the bottle, this was thick cocoa, like I stuck my nose right in a tin of it. When I put it on my skin, though, the cocoa was overwhelmed by a sour note that I'm guessing is the cream? The throw is all cocoa, though - from 12 inches away, my arms smell fabulous. I don't know whether I like it on me or not. I think this one will have to be hoarded back and allowed to mellow (and be tried on at different points in my monthly cycle) before I make a decision one way or the other. ETA: The sour cream note continued to get more and more obvious, until finally I went and washed it off. Woe.

I got a brand new bottle in June. It was a little different than the imp I'd been using, but it was obviously just a little sharper because it hadn't had enough time to marry together. The notes were the same, as far as I could tell (sweet/spicy!), just a little different in tone.

I've had an imp of this for some time, unwilling to try it out because it smelled so powerful that I was a little intimidated. "Road Opener" can cause swift change in directions that you might not have intended, so I was a little cautious. This morning, though, I found myself at a rough point in my novel, and really needed a push, so I went through my ritual oils - and lo and behold, instead of intimidating, it smelled sweet and inviting. So I swiped a bit on my wrists. Scent-wise, it's green and powdery, with the generic 'herbal' scent I associate with magickal blends and perhaps just a hint of musk underneath. With regards to magickal use, I was worried about coming up with money for a particular bill, and got a phone call first thing this morning with a creative solution. I'm hoping that it'll work the same quick magick when I sit down for my writing session this afternoon.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
harmonyfb replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
You know...you may have gotten a mislabeled imp. It happens sometimes. 'Silk Road' should smell spicy, very similar to Snake Oil (without the vanilla note). If it doesn't seem to have any of the same notes, you might want to email the lab about it. Sometimes label mix-ups happen. -
I didn't order a bottle of this because I was afraid that the caramel apple note would overwhelm it, as the butter-based scents tend to do on me. But when I tried an imp? ::swoon:: It smells like funnel cake, sweet and greasy. Yum! I smell good enough to eat.

In the bottle: Spicy and floral. Initial application: Mostly sweet pea, with a little sweetness. Mellowed to: Vaaaaanilla, but not a foody smell. The amber underneath it darkens the vanilla and keeps it from sliding into bakery territory. The longer it's on my skin, the more I like it. Verdict: Hmm. I think I'll have to wear it a couple of times to see how I like it.

This was a very mercurial scent, in every sense of the word. A group of us all tried it on last night, and each and every one of us had a different changeable scent. In the imp, I was a bit afraid that I'd have an allergic reaction because it smelled so very sharp. But happily, I did not. When I first applied the scent, I smelled just like a cinnamon stick! After a bit, the cinnamon receded, but never went entirely away. Sadly, it had no staying power on me at all - in an hour and a half it was completely gone. On my friends? On one woman, it smelled of spice tea - clove, cinnamon, and hint of orange peel. On another, it smelled of oregano, pleasant but overwhelmingly herbal. On a third, the predominate note was lime. What a fun blend!

... Offerings of ginger candy, sugar cane, smoky vanilla and rice wine mingle with a ghost’s perfume of white sandalwood, ho wood, ti, white grapefruit, crystalline musk and aloe. This scent is tapered by the presence of seven herbs, woods and resins used in the purification of the spirit and the purging of earthly concerns from the soul. I adore the label of this scent. I'm tempted to keep it just for the label. Unfortunately, I don't really care for the perfume itself. I don't really smell any grapefruit; it's all musky and green on me. Bleah. Obviously, not for me. Happily, I have the t-shirt, which is beautiful and looks divine. But the perfume? Off to swap.

In the vial, and when it first touched my skin, it was deep, dark chocolate - yummy! Sadly, that lasted about fifteen seconds, before becoming a hideous collage of filthy hippie and raw leather stink. I couldn't wash it off fast enough to prevent a pounding headache from it.

When I opened the imp, I was struck by how much this snelled like Fee. On my skin, even, it has the same rounded fruity smell, even though this is peach, and Fee is lychee. Both have the tang of oakmoss; the real difference here is that Fee is all sugar, while Fae has a deeper, darker base note. All in all, not for me.

I'm so disappointed. In the bottle, it smelled like buttercream frosting. Oh, man, so tasty. On my skin, it bloomed to a less sweet frosting smell...for about three minutes. Then the currants rose up from hell and made me smell like medicine. Ew. Three hours later, I'm finally to the 'vanilla cake' phase, but I can't take smelling like liniment to get there.

In the imp, all I smell is jasmine. Wet, it smells like...ew, old-lady perfume smell. Underneath that is the bite of frankincense, which I hatehatehate. Off to swap.
