  1. Wow. I can't imagine how difficult that must be. I'll be sending good thoughts your sister's way, and to you as well. I think it's wonderful that you're thinking of her this way. I'm far from a BPAL expert, but I'd suggest Somnus from the Somnium and Quietude from the Panacea, which are both lovely lavender blends. I'd also suggest that you contact the lab directly to ask them whether any of the seizure triggers your sister shouldn't be exposed to are contained in those blends. I know they will answer ingredient questions relating to allergies and other health issues. ETA: It just occurred to me that you might consider a scent locket for her. I don't know if she'd be able to wear one, but they are a great way to wear oils without putting them onto skin. Best of luck!

The Best Scents for Home, a Room, the Car...

I can't really help you out with the heat issue, since we don't really have the problem up here in the Pacific Northwest. Mold yes, baked BPAL, not so much. Off the top of my head though, if it were me I'd probably go with one of the Panacea - either Moxie or Detox, since I love citrussy scents in the car. If not that, probably something herby like the Apothecary or a tea-scent (just because I adore them) like Sudha Segara.

    Caliph's Beloved

The cinnamon note in this strongly reminds me of Samhain and Red Phoenix. I think there likely is patchouli in there as well, but interestingly, it doesn't go all "dirty gym socks" on me as patchouli tends to. Like Samhain, the patchouli (if it is patchouli) is eminently wearable. This is a drier cinnamon to me than Samhain though, almost like Three Witches without the pepper. I anointed my moon pendant, my throat and my cleavage, and all I can say is Hooooo Mama! This is some powerful stuff! I would caution that it should only be used if you really, truly wanna get some.

The most natural or lifelike scents?

Twenty One is pure juniper The Unicorn smells just like standing under a linden tree in bloom

    Melon scents?

Many thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely pick up a bottle of Eris, at least. And maybe we melon lovers can all start pestering Beth. :tugging at Beth's sleeve: :batting eyelashes: ETA: Blood onmy hands: you probably hadn't heard that expression before because I just made it up. I mean, if hen's teeth are scarce, it stands to reason their dentures would be even scarcer, right?

    Twilight

Twilight ITB: pure baby oil. On: baby oil and jasmine. Dry: quite sour, as jasmine usually goes on me. Still has that baby oil base note on me.

    Shroud

Shroud ITB: spicy and a bit sharp. On: a sandalwood base under light florals - pretty. Dry: All sandalwood, which is no surprise, as sandalwood tends to amp out of control on me. It was lovely in the wet phase, though.

    House of Night

House of Night ITB: Floral with a hint of spice. On: Bitterly and strongly floral - and not pleasantly so. Dry: A nice rich floral throw, herby as well. Faded fast on me, which is surprising given how strong it was.

    Embalming Fluid

Embalming Fluid ITB: Very light and crisp, like lemon tea. On: Definitely lemon tea. The musk starts to bloom. The aloe is also apparent in the sour green edge it gives. Lovely! Dry: Clean and light, a very nice scent.

    Darkness

Darkness ITB: a spicy floral - a bit like cloves. Looking at the notes listing, that's the narcissus. I'm surprised I didn't recognize it - I love those flowers and have a yard full of them in the spring. On: Rich and warm, still has that narcissus top note which smells a bit like cloves here. Dry: Not gloomy on me at all, rather, this is warm and comforting, like snuggling up a great guy. Guy being operative here, as this goes a bit masculine smelling on me.

    Vechernyaya

Vechernyaya ITB: men's cologne. On: The same, and if anything a bit sharper. Dry: a very nice men's cologne, but men's cologne nonetheless. Interestingly, I couldn't detect the patchouli in this, despite being a patchouli-phobe.

    Persephone

Persephone ITB: pomegranate and rose. Very clearly so. Smells quite wonderful, light and fresh. On: A strange musty smell on me, what a total transformation, and I really hope it gets better, as it was lovely in the imp. Dry: The rose finally came out, but unfortunately not the good kind of rose on me. This was sour roses, which is sad.

    Pannychis

Pannychis ITB: Sweetened baby oil. I wish I knew what it is that my nose detects as baby oil. I get the same not in the Voodoo blends. On: floral and almost harsh, although the jasmine seems to be being held in check by something. The throw is soft but strong. Like plumeria - perhaps it's the moonflower, I don't know what that note smells like. Dry: Sweet tropical blooms, very very pretty, but a bit on the strong side for day use. This will be ideal for special occassions, as it is quite beautiful.

    Megaera

Very nice indeed. Pretty much if a scent has grapefruit, I'm guaranteed to like it. This one may even have toppled Aizen-Myoo from the top of my list. The plum is making this remind me a lot of Midwinter's Eve. I'd like to compare the two side-by-side to see how similar they actually are.

    Kurukulla

Kurukulla ITB: very sweet, with a powdered drink mix (to keep trademarks out of it) smell. On: Sweetened baby oil. Dry: Sour, sour, sour! Looking at the notes, I think it must be the roses, which more often than not go rancid on me. Sour roses totally drowned out the poor lotus, which never even had a chance to go bubblegummy on me.

    Eve

Eve ITB: honey sweet light florals. On: oh dear, instantly sour on my skin - must be rose or jasmine in here. Dry: ah, it's rose. Actually, most of the sour part has faded down, and it's rather a nice rose with a sharp resin or wood smell - probably the ylang ylang souring as usual. Very faint on me though.
  17. Wench457

    Erato

Erato ITB: sweet and kind of minty. On: I can't pick out any individual notes in this yet, throw is a sweet floral, then a spicy note comes out. Close to my wrists it smells like walking into a Thai restaurant. Dry: spicy soap. Looking at the notes, I'm guessing that's the roses and ylang ylang going sour on me. At least I'm learning what doesn't work on me!

    Calliope

Calliope ITB: lemony and fresh smelling. On: definitely smells of lemons on me - perhaps the verbena is going there. Like home-made lemonaid, when you include the peels as well as the juice. Dry: lovely fresh lemony scent. Looking at the note description, I have no idea where I'm getting so much lemon from. I also pick out just a hint of honey, but it's always in the background. I love, love, love this one! Did fade rather quickly, so I'm glad I snagged a bottle on ebay!

    Szepasszony

Szepasszony. What a fun word to spell! ITB it is fruity with a hint of ozone. On: lots of ozone with a hint of floral. Dry: A crisp, ozoney floral. This is all sharp edges, with nothing soft about it at all. That said, I like it quite a lot, and have already bought a bottle.
  20. Wench457

    Pain

Pain ITB: spicy, like peppermint. Guess that's the pennyroyal. On: very sharp and minty - then it smells just like walking into a Borders bookstore - like being surrounded by paper. How odd. Dry: very unsettling, like a camphor and mint scent. Painful, in fact.
  21. Wench457

    Kuang Shi

Kuang Shi ITB: acquatic floral with a faint hint of something spicy. Ginger perhaps? On: oh, pretty! Fruity and gingery - like a compote - this is delish! Dry: Something smells so familiar - almost like lemongrass. Light and clean smelling, very nice indeed!
  22. Wench457

    Snake Charmer

Snake Charmer ITB: rich, like vanilla syrup. On: a resiny smell comes to the fore, but I still mostly get vanilla from this. Dry: vanilla with a hint of sassafras - like vanilla root beer. I can see why this is so popular! Ultimately, patchouli makes its presence felt, and not in a good way on me. I'll keep the imp, but fortunately don't feel a burning need to track down a bottle.
  23. Wench457

    Umbra

This smelled so strongly of patchouli in the imp that I just couldn't bring myself to try it on. Poor thing, off to swaps to find someone to love you as you deserve.
  24. Wench457

    Lurid

Lurid ITB: incensy and masculine. On: getting sweeter - still incense and cedar? Dry: Sweeter still and fruity, like apricots, although I know that must be the currant. Just a hair too far on the masculine side for me. I think the combination of lavender, musk and ozone is what is making it smell masculine to me.
  25. Wench457

    Lampades

Lampades ITB: sweet berries. On: a hint of sandalwood - perhaps the musk morphing on my skin? Dry: sweet and berrylike, but rather a one note samba on me.
