Oils to relax, calm, soothe, restore your sanity...
TygherRayn replied to Shollin's topic in Recommendations
I've been told to try Water of Notre Dame to help me keep calm at work .. maybe that would help you? Besides that, the two I find very calming are Bruja and Nyx. -
Oh, I so agree! I'd love something that smelled like a nice ripe, fresh of the tree Macintosh. I used to get them from Mack's Apples in .. Londonderry, was it? I can't recall .. but they were amazing. we'd get them by the peck, and I'd eat them all the time... *sighs wistfully*

Forbidden fruit isn't appl-ey at all. As Vaniclion mentioned .. it's rather .. well .. just floral. And on us, not in good ways.

I got a chance to sniff Mars and was in love, and then I tried this out of my latest order, and I'm a very happy girl! In the Bottle: Wet cinnamon red hots. And for me, this is a good thing, as I'll eat the things until they make me sick. There's a hint of something else .. a sweetness I suspect comes from the honeysuckle and the copal I suppose. I like it, but I'm more pleased with the cinnamon-y scent, because I've been searching for one. Wet: Ooooh. I can already tell I'm gonna like this one. It's hot, but not irritating like some people have mentioned. No red rash or itchiness for me, and this is a pleasing thing. The sweetness comes out more and more with this, but it's tempered by the spice of the cinnamon, and that makes this so good I want to eat my wrist. On Drydown: This is still yummy. It stays that nice blend of sweet and spicy cinnamon, and more than that, it wafts well on me. Most scents I like I have to sniff my wrist after a few hours .. not this one. It's so perfect! Definitely a 5ml bottle on this one. ETA: This stayed with me ALL day long. I just reapplied only because I'm at work, and the smelly cleaning guy is around and I needed something to keep his nasty BO from making me ill.

One of Jason's picks, but it was on my list of 'wanna try', so it's all good. And we got a bonus extra, which I'm adding to the half dozen or so going to my best friend! In the bottle: Rather sweet, but in a very good Bordello way. WE all oohed and ahhed over this one, and just had to try it. Wet: It's very nice .. on the boys it stayed very sweet, but on me it rather quickly had a smoky/spiciness too it that I loved. I can still catch the amber, but it's the spicy note that's lingering most. Drydown: This dried at first to something almost-but-not-quite too spicy for me, and I was afraid I wasn't going to like it. But lo-and-behold, after about an hour the amber really came out .. and I -love- amber. And this had just enough of the spice left to it to be a really nice scent. I've decided that this one is definitely a keeper. It's floral without being cloying and well .. bouquet-ish, with a smooth warmth of amber that just makes me purrr. Rather what I imagine Carnivale should be, in fact.

You know .. I'd like to say I'd want this but then, there's just sooo many scents she already makes, and is constantly coming out with more ... I can't imagine having a scent of my own in addition to everything else. Not to say I'd turn it down if offered to me .. I just think the money I'd put towards that would be better put to trying everything she already makes, right now. *smiles*

Okay .. there are a few of these that I'd like to dilute in something else, to put in a roll-on bottle, so I can more easily reapply through the day, especially with some of the lighter oils, which seem to be eaten up by my skin. What I need to know is what carrier oils would be best for this purpose? I assume something very light .. I was looking at jojoba oil, and shea oil. Anyone know what's best?

Ivory Soap. This is Ivory Soap. Nothing but plain and simple, white and 99.9% pure Ivory Soap. I didn't smell anything else, I'm afraid. I really really wanted this to be nice on me, as it sounded so promising. But. It's soap. A brand new bar of Ivory Soap. *frowns* In the swap pile for this one.

This was yet another I got for a dear friend, but yet I'm going to have to break down and get some for myself eventually. In the bottle: Sweet and spicy at once. I can definitely smell the vanilla, but there's more to it than that, and I love it. It's deliciously complex, and I can't wait to try it on. First 5 minutes: Hrm .. where'd the vanilla go? It was wierd, when I first out it on the vanilla was toally gone, and I was kinda sad. I like vanilla scents, when they don't smell like vanilla extract .. (I mean c'mon .. if I wanted to smell like that, I'd just splash some of it on!) .. but I'm not giving up on it. Early drydown: That's much better. It's definitely vanilla, but a good, yummy, almost smoky vanilla. Warm and luscious and comforting. It reminds me of a sugar scrub I tried once, that stayed with me for hours after, and just made my skin all smooth and soft and touchable. Snake Oil makes me feel that way too.

I got this one for a friend, but had to try it on myself first. It was already on my wishlist .. and now I know why! In the bottle: Peach! Oh, my, but this one was sweet, and sticky. Like a delicious peach pie .. I wasn't so sure about it then. First 5 minutes on: It's softened some, but it's still very present, like it doesn't quite want to mellow out on my skin. There's more to it now though than the peach, which is a good thing, and I have hope. Wearing: Yum. It's soft on me, and might just need a reapplication after a few hours .. not a major deal. I can smell the amber more now than anything .. or maybe it's the heliotrope I'm catching. Whatever it is, it smells good. Overall: I need this. I don't know if I'll get a 5ml of it, but I'll have to order some of my own an keep it on hand always. ETA: It's now well over 12 hours later and I can still smell this on my wrist .. I'm quite impressed .. thus far only Nyx and Brujah have had this staying power on me. And now, I should go to bed.

It's another company that makes bath products, lotions, etc, as well as having a cosmetics line as well.

Ordered on 4/16 and 4/19 .. received 5/14.

I got a response pretty quickly when I emailed her the other, day, but I get the feeling all is pretty busy in BPAL land, with them trying to get the update done as well as get everyone's orders shipped decently on time.

Ya'll are all so helpful! Thank you! I think .. barring further suggestions .. that when the new scents come out and I can make my new order, I'll be including at least Water of Notre Dame and Queen of Hearts. I already have Oneroi on order, I believe. And I think I might add Seraphim too. All of them are on my wishlist anyhow. (Though .. there's not a lot that aren't!) Thank you all so much .. you rock! -

After a particularly stressful incident at work where I had to raise my voice to a caller to get him to listen, and my hands and voice were shaking in utter frustration and annoyance, I need some help. What scents are best to help you keep a level head and a calm heart? Brujah, thus far, has been soothing to me, but it's more of a sleepy soothing, and I don't need that at work. Something to help me stay patient with the idiots I deal with on a nightly basis .. as patience is something I am rather lacking in, admittedly. -
I liked the smell of this one in the bottle .. it really does remind me of the smell of an old catholic church. But on me, it's decidedly cedar. I didn't wear it long enough to see if that mellowed, because I smellt just like a cedar plank .. like when my parents were siding our old house and I was helping, and would smell like the planks for the rest of the day. It hangs onto me, and it's just .. overwhelming. Not in a good way I'm afraid. As an incense, or a candle, this would do well I think. Perfume? Sadly, no.

Mmmm. I loved this. Of course, after my reaction to Old Shanghai, I was almost convinced that I would. In the bottle, this is green. Actually, more of a yellowish-green. Which is a good thing. I'm fong of that color, it reminds me of beach grass and sour-cream and onion chips. (Don't ask, I'm wierd.) On me? This one equaled Old Shanghai in the 'yum' factor. I can tell it's going to be a 'reapply in 4 hours' scent, but the lighter scents tend to be that way on me. Other than that, I like it. It's crisp. Like a cool summer morning, before the sun gets hot, and about a day after the grass has been mowed. It's not sharp though .. very smooth, and mellow. I'm pleased, and will likely get my own imp at least, if not a bottle.

I did but sniff at this ... again, at vaniclion's house (I love him so!) and knew this was not a scent for me. It's not nearly -as- rosey as I feared, but the rose is definitely the scent that comes out the strongest on my skin. And, as I'm not overly fornd of heavy rose scents, I have to say this is a pass scent on me. But. This one I think would make a fabulous candle scent. Absolutely fabulous. In fact, I'd probably be tempted .. when I'm in that mode .. to buy an imp just for candles. Oooh, or soap. It might be great as a soap. Like .. tiny guest soaps, shaped like roses and dyed a deep crimson.
-
I tried this at vaniclion's house today, and I get the same thing. I was expecting something pirate-y, but totally got 'air freshener scent' from it. And it wasn't any better on. I can't even tell where it's coming from .. as there's not a floral note in the description .. only thing I can think of is maybe he got the wrong thing?
-
In the bottle I thought this smelled a lot like Bordello .. actually not quite as sweet .. something kind of held it back. I put it on, and instantly liked it though. It's not quite as sweet as Bordello is .. maybe just not as Nerds-y or something. I definitely smell the berry scent .. I have a hard time separating notes, but the berry I think is what gives it the sweet scent. I can also detect what I think is the musk, and I think that's what changes it from the Bordello, especially on me. This is much fruitier ... not a scent I would wear a lot of, but definitely one that has its chance to shine once in a while. As a side note, this went really sweet on Jason. Really sweet, and stayed that way. And while that wasn't a bad thing, necessarily, it was almost like smelling a popsicle .. that kind of sweet. And I don't think either of us want him to smell like that. he can still with Villain. *winks*

I did, amberbella, because the two were placed very close to gether, and I asked Nella if they could just be combined. Check with her, I'd say .. she's usually good ad responding.
-
My last order was done through Paypal. I won't use CCNow ever again. Of course, it won't even be an option soon .. especially if things went well bith with Beth and her accountant's meeting.

Oh my goodness woman! *grins* That's worse than my 24 imp order! Which I'm still waiting patiently for. *waits cutely*
