    Namaste

With Namaste, the strongest notes to me are sandalwood and cedar, a very woody scent in the bottle and at first on skin. I don't get any lemongrass at all. The woody stage persists for quite a while, then the florals come out, particularly rose, so it becomes a floral scent with a woody base. Unfortunately I don't like rose, so off to swap this went.

    Bon Vivant

Unfortunately I don't really get on with very sweet scents, but Bon Vivant was a freebie from the lab so I tried it. Strawberries and champagne is exactly what I got, or rather sweet strawberries with an underlying slightly alcoholic scent, which I assume is the champagne. It didn't change from the vial, on my skin or on drydown, but was ultimately far too sweet for me. I swapped it away so it can be appreciated more.

    Carnal

I got Carnal as a gift imp with a swap. I'm really not into sweet scents, so I probably wouldn't have ordered it. In the bottle, it's fairly sweet but not overly so. On my skin, the fig tempers the sweetness and I get a sharp citrus with an earthy base. The mandarin is the dominant note. On drydown it doesn't change much on me, the sharpness/slight sweetness of the mandarin remains and it stays a fresh, bright scent despite the fig, which stays in the background balancing the mandarin. I love it, though it's not what I would have thought Carnal would be like. I used some in a massage bar, it's great.

    Traveling with BPAL

I've been flying a lot recently between London and Houston, and not had any problems with imps or bottles. I just put them in my make-up back in carry-on luggage as the other have said. At London Gatwick they always check everyone's carry-on bag by hand, last time I flew I had a bottle of Come to me and some imps - the security woman asked what the Come to me was, I told her it was perfume oil and she opened it up and had a sniff to check! She seemed convinved it was harmless ETA re leakage - I've never had any imps leak either, and of course all the imps we non-US people order come by air, all mine at least have been fine

The search for "Clean" scents - general discussion

Danube is a great clean fresh scent. I mix some with my conditioner to use after a workout at the gym. I also second (third?) Pele, though unfortunately it doesn't last nearly as long as Danube on me!

    Decadence

As Lady Ravenglass mentioned, Decadence is a Christmassy smell. It's definitely an autumn/winter scent, rich and warming. If this has dragon's blood resin in (I agree with Andrabell that the colour suggests it does), it has converted me, I didn't think I liked blends with it in before. In the bottle and initially wet I smell cinnamon strongly and an amaretto/almond smell. To me it does not smell overtly alcoholic (eg like Hellcat does on me) but there is something in the background giving it depth and warmness. On dry-down the cinnamon has receded a bit and the almondy-vanillary smell is coming out together with what I think is the dragon's blood resin. Luckily I have no reaction to cinnamon in other blends so I can't comment on whether it is to be avoided by those who are sensitive. I can't really smell the citrus the others have mentioned, but there are definitely other things in the background which my nose isn't good enough to detect! Decadence is pretty longlasting on me, 5 hours after application it's still doing fine. I'm really interested in what's in this, if it was on the website I would be seriuosly considering a big bottle. I think this would be perfect with some almond/other base oil in a long hot bath in winter, with candles and music, snow on the ground outside....

    Danube

In the bottle: Strong, fresh, definitely blue and more watery than floral, cool On: Danube doesn't really change on my skin and 8 hours later I could still detect the scent (although faintly). To me it is strongly rhododendron, it reminds me of part of my mother's garden where she had a massive red rhododendron and we used to sometimes sit in it's shade during the spring and summer. It's still got the watery 'blueness' which keeps it from becoming overly floral. It's fresh and a kind of clean scent, I've been using my imp to mix with hair conditioner to use after a work out at the gym and will buy a bottle at some point for this purpose - it's precisely the kind of clean fresh cool scent which is perfect for after a workout and shower and is also unusual and individual. I love this, even though I haven't liked other watery scents such as storm.

Gardening and the Scents of a Garden

Definitely the Caterpillar...Envy is also very green

    Pele

Sweet, tropical, floral. I can't distinguish the ginger, but there is definitely something there which sets this aside from other florals and gives it a tropical feel. I usually only apply a very small amount of oil (especially if I'm trying it for the first time) and have to sniff my wrist to really smell it, but with Pele I was conscious of this delicious scent all the time, it lasted probably the longest of the oils I've tried. It didn't really change on my skin from the scent in the bottle. I think I have a new favourite

Since I seem to need to reiterate it...

This is *exactly* what my mum thinks. I had to cut them off for her!

Since I seem to need to reiterate it...

I agree with the others about simplifying the imp's to just a sticky label...the ties do look kinda cool but I just cut them off straight away because I find they get in the way too much, and once I got the end stuck in the vial and it sucked some oil out and made everything messy. It seems like this would save you quite a lot of time and money, and I honestly don't think people will think any less of you or your products.

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

I can't distinguish the rose in Old venice either. #20 love oil is definitely rose, and how about black rose?

    #20 Love Oil

In the bottle: Strong smell of almonds with green in the back ground. Nice. At first: Slight almonds, herbs and floral scent Dry: Strong rose scent, to me almost pure rose. Unfortunately rose isn't my thing, shame cos it was great in the bottle and at first! I'll be sticking with Come to me.

    Tombstone

For me, the vanilla and cedar come out strongly. Unlike the others, I can't smell mint (good). However, I don't know what sassafras or balsam smell like, if I did maybe I'd be able to pick them out. On, it stayed very strong all day, drying down to a warm, woody vanilla. I don't find it foody at all due to the woodiness. I'm not sure I can wear this myself, I feel it's maybe a bt masculine for me to carry off, but it is the kind of scent I'd put on for a night in on my own, just to smell good for *me*. It is a pretty sexy scent, on a guy it would be . As a massage oil it would be great too, I'm considering getting a 5ml just for that. Unfortunately I didn't get to test my imp out on my bf, as I let my dad have a sniff and he liked it so much I gave him it!

    UK customers! Hi. =)

The more I think about this the more difficulties I think of...as Allamanda says, maybe there are other ways to solve the problems of ordering from the UK?

    UK customers! Hi. =)

In principle it's a good idea, but in practise I agree with Clephan that it would depend if they'd be willing to deal with the numbers of mail orders and especially if they would carry all the scents - if we had to wait for you to ship to them we may as well order direct from you! It may well be easier to order within the UK and would avoid things being held up in customs....but it may work out more expensive given that we'd effectively be paying for postage from you to them (possibly with customs charges) and then again from them to us, with some profit for them thrown in....that said it'll be interesting to know more details Scotland is a long way from me too, but it would be great to be able to go to a shop selling BPAL and I'm sure lots of us would make the journey if possible!

    Envy

I find this a sharp green scent. I can't pick out the mint (which is a good thing as I don't really like obvious minty scents) but the lime, lavender and herbs are definitely there. I love using this after the gym as it's a clean scent but with more of a bite than the other green scents I've tried. It lasted all day on me. I agree with jj_j about the flowerbeds! I'd love a bottle of this, the concept is brilliant

    Zombi

I love this, and I'm not usually a fan of rose scents. In the vial I can smell earth and moss with the roses really in the background. On, it's a very earthy, dirty rose (in the nicest possible way), and lasted all day. I didn't really find that it changed on me at all. As the others have said, this is totally spot-on for the name, and it does inspire a certain frame of mind. I wouldn't wear it everyday, but it makes me feel confident, although in a formal kinda way. I need a 5ml of this!

    Hunger

When I put this first on, I can smell something like something burning. On drydown the burning smell fades, and a more chocolatey vanilla smell comes through, but there is still the acridness in the background. Loved it in the bottle, not sure I like it on my skin.

    Venice

I love this, though I can't detect any single notes in here. I'm glad I can't smell rose as I'm not a fan of rose blends. It's just lush, bright flowers to me, not fruity at all and it doesn't change on my skin from that. It's pretty long lasting on me, I put a tiny dab on one wrist to go to work (not supposed to wear perfume) and I could still detect it slightly at the end of the day. This is my favourite BPAL oil so far, I'm so glad I got a 5ml.

    Come to Me

First impression: A soapy smell hits me first....I'm finding it hard to get past the soap. Wearing: Initally soapy, then that fades and it's a soft slightly green smell.....I totally agree with Gothabillywench that it's comforting rather than confrontational, it's a relaxing kind of smell that I might choose to wear just for a quiet night in after a long day. It somehow manages to be refreshing and relaxing at the same time. In terms of guys, it's saying 'come here and everything will be alright, you know you want to'. I wore it the night my bloke came up from London for the first time in 3 weeks....he did comment several times how good I smelt, but he's pretty good at noticing perfume / make-up / new clothes etc and I think the inevitable would've happened anyway . Still, it does give me confidence and makes me feel good wearing it, probably more so than a more overtly sexual oil. Having worn it several times now, I'm liking it more and more, and I can't smell the initial soap smell anymore. I'd love to know what notes are in this one so help me choose more oils to try.
  24. I think I might try Phantasm if it's a bit like Avobath. Does anyone know a BPAL oil similar to Amazonian, or one that would be good to use after using Amazonian as a moisuriser? I find that the Amazonian smell fades quite quickly
