The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
agirlnamedfury replied to RaeiNarcissus's topic in Discontinued Scents
Wow, this is nice. It's fruity and nutty and there's the subtle spice of cinnamon. It kind of reminds me of a warmer, more complex Eden, which makes sense obviously with the name connection. And Eden is one of my GC favorites, but this might be even better. LOVE. -
Lily. Not much else and not particularly to my taste.
-
This smells almost like a smoky curry powder to me. I haven't really liked any of the other dragon's blood blends so far, but this one is very interesting to me!
-
More honey than floral while wet, which is a nice surprise... but still, I'm not sure how often I'll wear this one. It veers dangerously close to the powdery for me.
-
I can't entirely decide if I like this one or not. The black tea is most present but there are also nice warming spices, vanilla, and tobacco. Okay, yeah, I do really like this one.
-
This is much more foody than I expected, warm and comforting. I don't really love the smell of pumpkin but I actually quite like this, as it is more of just a buttery, baked-goods type scent on me. Subtle and close to the skin.

Bruised Violet Compound
agirlnamedfury replied to Leopard403's topic in Doc Constantine's Pharmacopoeia
Very strong violet. Not for me! -
Far too much sharp amber for me, it smells almost metallic. I don't get any fruit, unfortunately.
-
Very green... I so wanted to like an Area 51 scent but this one just isn't my style!
-
Patchouli and pine air freshener. A little bit too overpoweringly "foresty" for me.... to the swaps pile it goes!
-
Bright coconut! Lighter and fresher than the usual suntan lotion coconut scent. Totally not what I expected from the name, I actually like this a lot!
-
Rose and fruit punch.
-
Very sharp, green floral.

Mod Note: Please note that this is the review topic for the 2014 and 2016 version of this scent, which differs slightly from releases in 2006, 2007, 2012, 2013, and 2015 (which have their own topic). Be good, or Krampus will toss you in a river! Sinister red musk, black and rust-brown leathers, dusty rags, and wooden switches. 2014 version! This is a TOTALLY different leather note than Hans Trapp... it's interesting to me, because the scent descriptions and notes of the two of those scents sound similar but they couldn't smell more different. This leather is old and worn and dirty. There's definitely a woodiness in there, and I totally get the dust note! This would be super sexy to smell on a man, it's all rugged and bad boy. Don't know if guys would want to smell it on me though!

Maybe I don't actually know that much about the different musks, cause this doesn't smell exactly how I expected it to. The honey and cardamom were what I was truly after, and I don't get that much of either of them here, unfortunately. This does remind me of a lighter version of Smut like other reviewers have mentioned -- I did a side-by-side comparison of both these hair glosses spritzed on my wrists and while they are quite similar, I prefer the darker, sultrier Smut. Still, I love the BPTP hair glosses so I'm sure I'll end up wearing this one.... and if not, it can always go to swaps!

YUM. The vanilla and cardamom are very assertive, set against a slightly smoky, sweet patchouli background. This is sweet and sultry and I can see myself wearing it a lot.
-
This is quite a sweet musk, though definitely still dark. This is like a sexy forest, but something about it is just on the edge of wearability for me. Will have to test this one a few more times.
-
Dark, resinous, and bitter. I expected this to be a bit spicy and sweet, but it's not really either. Unfortunately I'm not getting any of the vanilla, which is a shame. Okay, twenty minutes or so later I'm starting to get a bit of vanilla and liking this a bit better. Still pretty indifferent towards it.
-
Urgh, this turns into overly sweet baby powder on me. So sad.
-
Something about this gave me an immediate headache as soon as I applied it. A shame, as I usually love patchouli scents.
-
i don't get any apricot in this, unfortunately. This is quite a light musk, and on the whole this perfume smells mostly like dry, light wood to me -- quite nice. I was a bit nervous about the vetiver in here, but it's actually not ruining this for me for once.
-
I was hoping this was more vanilla than flower, but alas. This is nice enough, but it may be a bit too light and delicate for my tastes.
-
Wet, the first notes to hit are definitely citrusy mandarin and sharp amber. I was a bit worried, because amber is not a note that usually works well for me, but luckily that seems to fade pretty fast and it turns into a citrusy baked good smell. I was really hoping for a good bread scent, which I don't think I've encountered yet in the BPAL catalogue, but this one is definitely more cake-like than bread-like. This is an interesting one in that I don't really like the way it smells in the imp at all, but I love it on my skin after 10 or so minutes.
-
This is definitely a strange mix. Strong coconut, the suntan lotion variety. Bright, juicy pear -- just like pear Jelly Belly jelly beans, actually. Just a hint of soft, sweet leather in the background. I actually like this one a lot more than I thought I would.

Sweet berry syrup at first, but there's a little bit of a chemical sharpness after the drydown that I'm not really a fan of. :/
