The Champaca, Tea and Patchouli are bolstered by the Benzoin/Amberis. The Iris is really just a bit player to my nose. Patchouli and I have a highly problematic relationship but what's in this blend is so very smooth. Could see guys and girls both loving this. This is going to age beautifully.

Seance, is that you? Oh, no... this is more complex. Goes on very subtle and takes a few minutes to really register anything. So my advice is give this one a few minutes all to itself when testing. I smell the Rosewood and then out comes the Rose. The other notes aren't prominent but keep this from being overly dry with all the woods. Great unisex blend.

Bitter and sharp. I blame the Almond. Alcoholic scents so often work on me. Shame.
-
Edible Fig Incense. Dark, dense and delicious.

I wouldn't argue this is not well-blended but the words that came to my mind were "jumbled" and "muddled". This starts out more Harlequin and masculine with the woods, herbs and evergreens on top. It ends up, an hour later, as more Columbine and feminine with the Currant and Vanilla coming forward. Lasts a long time on me and the dry down is wonderful but it takes too long to get there on my skin.

Klara is gorgeous. Floral Honey without being cloying or piercing. Speaking frankly, Klara makes up for the loss of three of my favorite florals this week (Shadow Witch Orchid, Moon Rose, Regan). Yes, she's that endearing.

I giggle like a school-girl every time I see "Mr. Fezziwig's Ball" and do wish this had been named "Fezziwig's Ball" instead- if you get my drift. This is a very happy and nourishing scent. Warm and inviting. Mince Pie and Beer as advertised. The Spruce is pretty laid back and so are the Spices so this avoids the Christmas Candle trap pretty well. In fact, this blend has some of the best behaved and well-contained spice notes that I remember. Surprisingly less Beer than Mince Pie. Although the Beer comes back after a while. And the "Pie" aspect is closer to the savory more than the sweet. I agree with Alderci's take on this having a rustic quality. Something in here smells a bit "dirty" in the best possible way. Edit- this somehow manages to disappear very quickly on me. Oh Well, it's a fun and enjoyable scent though.

Candy Corn Coated Candy Apple
Heavenlyrabbit replied to mineralgirl's topic in Black Phoenix Trading Post
Amazingly this goes on as a sharp green apple and stays that way. My skin chemistry is notorious for burning through sweet notes and it does with this particular scent. -
This smells like REAL root beer. And this also reminds me of the Root Beer Barrel hard candies my grandmother liked. Also, reminds me of Fentiman's Dandelion and Burdock soda.
-
For whatever reason, this reminded me of Stardust. Sort of high-pitched and verging on the dry fizzy-grapeness of champagne.

This is really sexy on me. Sexy and kind of raunchy. Cardamom is usually a note of doom. Here it combines with the opium tar for a sort of dirty smut-girl, sexy vibe. This is sexy for me the way some find Smut or Infernal Lover, for instance. This doesn't smell at all like either of those two scents but it plays the same hot role for me!

So very glad I took this off my Sale page! First test, it really wasn't good. It took a day to settle. Odd Portents is one of those BPAL's. So very pretty. The Lavender doesn't dominate- I think the Bourbon Geranium ( a very good note for me personally) keeps it in check. Black Rose, whatever cultivar it is, smells divine. I haven't been having much luck with Rose in the last year or so.

Infernal Lover, you left me cold. You were kind of nice but nothing special.

Adorable label. Pretty in the bottle but it totally disappears on my skin. How can something that smells so foody in the bottle just go poof like that? Cake Smash & Teatime in Rosewell didn't show up on me either, interestingly enough.

This is a fun, foodie scent that makes me feel like a kid again! Perfect for a Halloween blend. And as strong as this scent is, it's not as hardcore as some other foodie BPAL's
-
Fascinating scent. Smoky woods with a bare touch of something herbal and something sweet and then something approaching turpentine/evergreen tar.

This shouldn't work on me, but it does. Earthy usually means fail for me. In this regard, where an earthy or foresty blend that doesn't work actually smells amazing on my skin, I compare this to Incantation. It's got this subtle sweetness to it. Perhaps the booze. Maybe it's the "weeds". This does indeed come across as clean dirt.

A gently clean and refreshing floral. It seems familiar to me as well. It skirts around soapy territory without ever really going there.
-
The Violet Leaf and White Tea just go together so well. Like two best friends that are inseparable. In fact, this pairing makes so much sense, I wonder why I haven't come across it before.

This is gorgeous and I can barely wait to get a bottle for a slather. Agreed with above poster who said "high end perfume". Ambergris and Ambergris Accord does a lot for my skin chemistry. Sort of like Benzoin secretly makes everything better. I'd love to know where Beth got this accord or if she made it up herself.

The Hag really exceeded my expectations. Which wasn't hard, cause I had none to begin with. Vetiver it must be noted, is hit or miss on me. Most often miss. At first, it seemed the Vetiver was going to be over-bearing and a clear miss BUT, within mere seconds it receded and blended beautifully into all the other warm golden brown and olivine scents. The Bourbon Vetiver is wonderful with just a touch of smoke and balsamic goodness and the Blackcurrant and Rum add a nice vein of sweetness. This blend smells the most like Autumn and Halloween out of all the other Halloweenies so far. The Hag most likely be even better with some aging.

A dirty aquatic floral. Quite different. Going back to read the scent description, it makes sense considering what this depicts.

Favorite snack: Goji berries( as long as they're good quality soft ones). Dried apple without added sugar. Salted roasted sunflower sees. Medjool dates. Nail polish: YES! I think The Lab has a dark silver one I'd love. Best colors for me- silver/gray, taupe. Halloween plans: None this year. Halloween decorations: Yes, I have a collection that comes out every year. I go for vintage looking Halloween stuff. Mortar and pestle: I have a very nice suribachi used for miso. That's all i need. What hobby/craft would you like to learn how to do? My arts/crafts right now are sewing, paper arts. I'd like to get back into knitting and start with small dolls, scarves small projects. Also like to learn the japanese crochet amigurumi. And crocheting with metal wire jewelry. I only know how to do chain stitch in crochet. Picky about wish list? I hope it really just gives you an idea of what I like. Do you wear make up? Nope. If you are a crafter, would you like to receive supplies from your witch (beads, fabric, yarn/roving etc?) OH BOY WOULD I! I love receiving antique bits and pieces of lace, beads, fabrics. If you could see one concert right now, who would it be? Chieftans For tea drinkers, do you prefer loose leaf or tea bags? Tea Bags . I drink Green Tea, Dandelion Tea, Burdock Tea and Roasted Barley Tea. Had to give up coffee. Chocolate or other types of candy? Ah, I gave up chocolate too. But I do like Ricola Honey Drops, Ricola Elderberry and Ricola Cranberry. Hard to find except on their website. Also, how do people feel about shawls? LOVE them. Rich earth tones, paisleys. Woven, knitted, crochet. What is a bpal scent that you've been dying to try for awhile but just can't find? Reindeer Poop, the Goth scents from this summer, Comforting Plush Companion, Lost His Nurse In A Crowd.

I'm glad this is getting so much love from other BPAL'ers. On me, this was overwhelmingly Espresso with a sour, scalded Milk and just a bare touch of Pumpkin. I agree this reminds of Starbucks and I HATE Starbucks coffee. It tastes/smells burnt. I went back and tried my Pumpkin Patch V and it is still rocking with my skin chemistry so I'm set with past years' Pumpkin blends.

Puffy clouds of pumpkin candyfloss with a trickle of blackberry juice. I had to check the label after reading the reviews. My first impression is every single review so far is totally wrong. On me, BPF has zero spice. And I usually amp spice like cinnamon so it's a mystery where it went on my skin. Also, zero buttery pumpkin, candy floss or berry. I got Squash. A single-note Squash. Maybe if I want to at least sound more interesting I"ll go as far as saying "Hokkaido Squash". Weird.
