Random question... has anyone else got the BPTP RR goods in the tall skinny bottles? Maybe it's just my eyes, but all the pics of them look like they are in the traditional squat 'boston-round'? And very awesome arrangement/design with the bottle porn pics, nathanielherbert! What a nice treat

Belphegor's Baubles, Gewgaws, Knickknacks & Objects of Whimsy
Mellifluous posted a topic in Unreleased Scents
I have a prototype bottle of this, and it is quite a unique smell I'm actually not too sure what I'm smelling, but it is coming across as a very very dark, yet fizzy and woody, musk. ? Actually, once it dries a bit, I realized its cumin! A fizzy and musky scent with a wallop of cumin. ... Not exactly how I would interpret baubles or objects of whimsy.. but I would agree it is something 'special' -
I'm crossing my fingers that this is GC... its so good. Very rich dark vanilla with little kisses of patchouli and hemp. I actually could do with a bit more patch, but even as it is now it is love. I sprayed this throw at the foot of my bed a week ago, and still get whispers of it throughout my room ♥

My experience isnt much different from the other ladies'. Starts as a fairly fresh green musk blend, but with added richness and body from the benzoin/tomato leaf/sage. I get a bit of fresh birch or hinoki.. one of those cool-er sour woods. Maybe that is supposed to be the cucumber and/or squash? Either way, that aspect only lasted for 15-20 minutes, and was tempered under the musk anyhow. I really didnt get much vetiver at all, but man did this blend laaaast. When I woke up this morning, it was nearly as strong as when I had put it on the afternoon before. There were occasional wafts that hinted at irish spring soap, but for the most part, it was a beautifully rich, resiny, and voluptuous green musk. I think this just may be a keeper... although I may decant out a few imps. -
This was a surprise like for me. I was expecting herbal aquatic meh, but it was incredibly different on me. It started with a cola note, that warmed to a Blood Popsicle-ish/dragons blood note, and then settled into a champaka/carnation-y spiced soapy musk. Fairly simple, but pleasing.

I have been loving this so harcore! I've only had my bottle about a month and its nearly 1/2 gone. To me, this smells like a musky-er and only slightly oudh-y version of Lush's Twilight. Its a richly sweet and almost dusty lavender, with dark embracing undertones. LOVE

Definitely agree with the Liz aspect Mystery mentions. There really is a hint of leather here, or at least it smells of it. I dont quite get underpants levels of sweetness, but it is sweet in that aged resinous frankincense kind of way. The sandalwood is definitely present, and amazingly it is not migraine-inducing (as is usually the case with 'white' sandalwood)! The scent this most reminds me of is a drier, less sweet/rich CC: Female. I do rather like this, but it isn't a holy grail scent for me. Thankfully an imp will probably suffice just fine.

The 1st thing that came to my mind was Little Metalmark form the metas last year. The notes are "Nagarmotha and sweet musk." There is a subtle sweetness, but it is really a super subtle sweetness (on me). Like how some woody notes can have a sweet aspect. Overall its an arid desert musk cloud.

I really liked the perfume version of ED, so had to grab the HG. This one is even better on me. I dont know how its happened, but the red musk seems to have completely vanished. Also, unlike many others, the leather is a minor player on me, just an added black richness. Pretty much, Eldritch smells like black musk with blackened -slightly candied- roses. Warm, balmy, and dark, with occasional wafts of the gently sweet crimson petals, almost like a black rose incense. Really, really nice.

Frankincense, golden amber, bourbon vanilla, gurjum balsam, and Bulgarian rose. Starts all sweet frankincense, very similar to Hope and Fear, but then dries to a more complex blend, with a tiny hint of floral. The rose really is buried far behind the other notes, so for me (traditionally dislikes rose) its not a problem here. Very nice. If you liked Hope and Fear, I'd imagine this would work just as well for you. Even if you dont like roses.

I got one of the vanilla-based Scapula Chaos' from the kickstarter, and figured this was the place to review? Its vanilla, and maybe a touch of myrrh? There's something soft and nuzzly in there. Its kind of cool, but a bit rich as well. Maybe a touch of chamomile? IDK, it reminds me of blue tansy.. but with a little extra warmth and heft. Not quite as herbal/floral. Very pretty and soft, but persistent 2nd day of testing this.. and I think some lavender and tonka have developed? very subtle, but I keep getting whiffs of those. Beautiful!

Not sure if you've tried these, but here are some of the popular ones that are fairly simple, and just plain nice: Alice - Milky floral Dorian - Creamy/musky earl grey Goblin (2nd) - Dark resin coconut Sin - Spicy resins Kumiho - White tea and ginger The Lion - Grassy amber Lyonesse - Mossy aquatic vanilla Chimera - Spicy amber Miskatonic University - Dusty coffee

The Lowdown on Incense & Resin - The Best Recommendations
Mellifluous replied to Ms. MSGirl's topic in Recommendations
I second the rec for Little Pythia! I wasnt very interested in the notes initially due to the rose, but once I tried it on ♥ ♥ Very incensy, but not in a sharp headache-y way, and I've found rose can be beautiful on me if paired with incense. Eldritch Dark was another winner for the same reason. -
HERETIC Dark, spicy, animalic: Nagdi frankincense, bois de cade, beeswax, Somalian myrrh, and Laotian oudh. This is an amazing and rich incense blend. And by rich I mean its got that resin-y sweetness of incense, along with frank and myrrh and omg-swoon-worthy oude, but no powdery blair. This is not the kind of incense that tickles your nose or is smoky.. more like what I'd imagine the workshop of an incense-maker smells like, while they're blending the pastes and what not. Not overly sweet, or overly dark, and definitely not overly herbal. I think this is an incredibly balanced perfume, and would please anyone that is remotely interested in the notes.

How are people not screaming about this? It smells like an incensy chai doughnut on a pile of hay. Its gorgeous, and warm, and has a nice round nuzzly sweetness, with just a hint of a grassy backdrop. Seriously everyone, go buy this stuff! Me and a friend cleared out the stock at Del's because it was honestly so good.

Lyonesse is cooler and a bit sweeter, but it showcases a beautiful ambergris. (Golden vanilla and gilded musk, stargazer lily, white sandalwood, grey amber, elemi, orris root, ambergris and sea moss.) Unfortunately, that is the only GC I can think of off the top of my head that features it in a prominent way. So many of the other GC's have it tucked back behind either very 'green' or very 'black' notes.

My experience was nearly exactly like Viridian's. This is a straight up Pumpkin Spice blend. I get no pumpkin at all, and am totally fine with that. Ginger and cinnamon, with a touch of nutmeg and cardamom. Delicious! I dont think I'd wear this as perfume, though. I might fragrance a drier sheet with it for my clothes, or use it in an oil burner.

I really like the steamworks scent "Smokestack". While its not a traditional woodsmoke, it does have creosote, and a smooth but dark smokiness.
-
There can be the rare huge differences between batches, but usually its due to age. Especially when comparing an imp to a bottles, as imps age much quicker (clear glass as opposed to amber/cobalt, more susceptible to temp changes due to smaller size/more surface area, etc). Although if they truly smell nothing alike, then it may be a case of mislabeling.

Dragon's Hide is also worth a go/ perusing, if he likes spicy scents. Its just Dragons Blood, smoke, and leather.

An infernal bounty: fiery, blood red pomegranate, black fig, opoponax, patchouli, black pepper, tobacco absolute, cypress, yew berry, and dragon's blood resin. This is truly the best pomegranate scent I'v ever experienced. It is definitely pomegranate, but not like any other i'v smelled. Its not too syrupy at all, and is balanced very nicely with patchouli and tobacco. I mentioned in the bats fay thread that this is very reminiscent of Crypt King (excluding the oakmoss). As a matter of fact, it does smell very similar, and perhaps as though the oakmoss was replaced with tobacco, which I think is why I like it quite a bit more. It adds a butteryness, and richness, to break up the sweet and earthy. All that said, if you dont like pomegranate, it would probably be a pass, but if your on the fence, then definitely give this one a try.

If you like Banshee Beat, I always suggest Goblin. Its GC, and is very similar in 'mood' as you put it. The same patchouli, but with benzoin and black coconut instead of vanilla and hemp. It still dries to this utterly amazing, dark sweet sinful hippy smell... but with a kick of warmed and blackened coconut. This is my 2nd fave, right after BB. -
I have to admit, I was super disappoint. I had thought this would be a remake of the original BPTP Dungeon atmo (Reviewed here), but upon actually smelling the goods, realized it is completely new and different. While this scent is not actually bad, it is nowhere as nice as the previous incarnation. My experience was much the same as DA's. Almost completely a nice musk blend. I do get an added bit of roughness from leather, and as Kashmira mentions, it is definitely more of a brown leather. Overall a nice blend. But not quite what I was hoping for.
