The Blooming / Friend of Flowers Grandiflorum jasmine, Damask rose, ylang ylang, gardenia, sweetbriar, and apple blossom dusted by golden amber. Am I the first one to review? Cool! I don't know how to do the report thing!! If someone wants to report it for me, or show me how to do that, that would be nice. - wait, never mind, saw the button.. duh. I just got this in the mail yesterday, a cool thing for Valentine's Day! I love, love love love this! Disclaimer: I am a huge jasmine fanatic (obviously), so if you're one of those people that has a Jasmine aversion be careful, the force is pretty strong with this one. It does settle after a few minutes of wear, though, so if you're on the fence it might be worth a try. In the bottle: Jasmine, straight up. Such a sharp smell, it almost becomes anosmic On- This is amazingly blended. The Jasmine stands out, sometimes I get hints of the gardenia and ylang. I am a little wary of anything apple related, but this apple blossom is sweet and not apple-green sharp if that makes any sense. I don't pick out the rose, and I don't know what sweetbriar is. The amber is soft and sweet, it is more noticeable as you wear it. I might have to run out and get another bottle before they stop making it. It will be great for spring. The effect of all the notes seemed to be more than just the sum of the ingredients, it's really a unique smell, doesn't remind me of anything else. Also, the boy seemed to like it This manages to be soft, warm, sexy and almost sparkling, like champagne and sunshine and flowers. Revisiting after a few days- just wanted to say that this might be my very favorite fragrance, of any brand, ever- tied with Delight! I love this more and more every day. I really wish this were not a limited edition and that they would make it part of their basic lineup! It is so sparkling and soft, and pleasant- I'm getting compliments on it. For reference, since my favorite BPAL is Delight, after smelling it for a while I realized it is like a less tropical cousin of Delight with more emphasis on the jasmine, less on the rose.

Walk into a florist's shop, inhale deeply...

Rose Red, the Rose, and also maybe Snow White could meet your needs. Good luck! -
This is an odd fragrance because you can smell all the notes when you pay attention, but the overall effect is that of a single-note, spicy, dusty cinnamon. I really do enjoy this despite not being much of a "foodie". Quintessentially autumn. A keeper- my boyfriend loves it though I fear he may try to eat my arm.

Loi Krathong is absolutely stunning. If you can find it. Also- delphi? Fairy Market? Xiutecuhtli?

I hope that I'm posting correctly- I tried to do a search first. I am looking for a scent that would fit with the Stevie Nicks song, Wild Heart- it's my favorite this is a youtube link, in case people haven't heard it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOudAoZydEo

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!
JasminDreams2010 replied to CiaoBonefish's topic in Recommendations
I want to try this thread again, because I believe my personality is changing from two years ago when I posted. I'm now 31, incredibly in love , beginning a career in the non-profit sector (HIV/AIDS and environmentalism). I have been feeling the more feminine side of my personality lately, focusing on my family, and being in the outdoors. I have strong beliefs, but have been moving away from conflict towards a quieter, more introvertive, meditative state. I write fiction/fantasy, and I still am obsessed with Stevie Nicks. I am a practicing eclectic Wiccan. I love my garden and surrounding myself with flowers, and organic vegetables. I love purples and greens. I love fantasy realms, unicorns, fairies, mermaids. Sometimes I'm dreamy and sort of out there. I'm fine with that. That's me, in a nutshell. -

MokieFraggle- you sound like someone I would totally hang out with. I would suggest maybe Kitsune-Tsuki because of the Japanese sensibilities, Yemaya for the girliness, Dragon's Heart for your tomboy side, Maybe Morgause for when you;re feeling witchy, and I don't know why, but I see you wearing something fun, with fruit, that's why I chose fruity suggestions. -
What BPAL would this fictional character wear?
JasminDreams2010 replied to Flowermouth's topic in Recommendations
Also- has anyone seen the secret of roan inish? Brilliant movie. I wonder what that would smell like, the sea/island/celtic theme could be quite neat. I just ordered a bottle of selkie- was curious. -

These are great suggestions! I agree most definitely about Howl and Calcifer. I have not read the book yet but have just ordered it. I love this movie! I can see Sophie in something with wildflowers. Or maybe Lydia- soft jasmine. -

Sorry- this is off the recent topic, but I was watching Howl's Moving Castle lately. What would you guys think for Howl and Sophie? Howl kind of has that dual nature, and sophie has the old woman/young woman thing going. interesting. -
O HAI CHOCOLATE! - ok and some other stuff. Something that smells boozy. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I like the sugar notes and florals but the chocolate is killing it. I don't really want to smell like a pastry.

This smells to me like easter candy. I have memories of a child of easter baskets and chocolates and flowers. I have no idea what note is triggering this. Strange. I'm not sure I'm keeping it. It is well done but too nostalgic I think for me to wear.

I bought a full bottle of this without testing, because one of my friends likes it and I was curious. In the bottle, it's almost difficult to smell anything at all. Then, when I put it on, it morphs into a gigantic orchid bloom. I'm not getting any of the rose, lily or mandarin whatsoever- on me this is orchid, amber and a little spicy carnation and sandalwoodin the background. This is one of those curious blends that isn't "me" at all, but I consider it to be so well-crafted that I'm keeping the bottle anyway to wear on certain days. I think if I could smell the lily note it would be more of a me thing, or if there were honey in it. But, it is very nice as it is. I could see wearing this to a nice restaurant or an upscale bar- or for a girls night out. It's very skin-like and while it has a pretty potent throw, it is somehow almost like not wearing a perfume at all. The vanilla and tonka make it feel like a sweet skin scent. It smells a lot more expensive than it is. the one downside is that the amber seems to mess with my sinuses sometimes.

I totally agree with Thalia, also one of my all-time favorites is la belle au bois dormant. beautiful. it isn't sparkling so much as- well, lush I suppose. nice.
-
This is odd for me but I think it's a keeper. It's simple, and pink, and airy but something in the vanilla goes skanky- in a good way, which makes me like it better. It doesn't smell anything like peonies to my nose, though it is a soft pink floral of some type. It somehow smells like dryer sheets. Sexier dryer sheets. Nice throw. 4 out of 5.

Lush to BPAL scent comparisons (BNever included too)
JasminDreams2010 replied to Vanilla's topic in Recommendations
I tried looking and couldn't find anything that was similar to Lush's Lust? I apologize if this is a repeat post but the search didn't turn anything up... I love that steel-toed jasmine. -
I really do like this. The rose is very feminine and sweet, and the honey tempers the lilac and wisteria so that they aren't too sharp, soapy or old-lady-ish. However, it seems to disappear a little. I will keep the imp but I don't think I'm getting a bottle

L’Essence de L’Engouement
JasminDreams2010 replied to violetblue's topic in Black Phoenix Trading Post
I wish this were stronger on the vanilla and sugar, and lighter on the orange blossom, but all in all, it's sweet and light. I'm going to wait and see how this ages- a keeper for now. -
beautiful, subtle. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do. I bought it out of sheer curiosity. Roses are iffy on me, but this scent is grounded, soft and not too foody, or bitter from the flowers. It's a smooth blending of all the notes. I can't pick out the champaca or nutmeg, but maybe they just add to the richness. Pretty, and I think it fits the title.

Valentine's day theme- flowers and candy
JasminDreams2010 replied to JasminDreams2010's topic in Recommendations
Thanks, guys... these sound great- particularly Xanthe, Hollywood Babylon, and Midnight on the Midway. And Prunella. Also I like the perfume Pink Sugar if that helps. I was looking in the recommendation thread for that and there weren't any listed that really worked on me. Now to manifest some money... -
Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!
JasminDreams2010 replied to CiaoBonefish's topic in Recommendations
Rachel- Maybe Blood Countess? Or one of the Dragon's Blood blends- Dragon's musk, Dragon's heart, etc. Or something green- faiza the black mamba? I could see maybe something with absinthe or schrodinger's cat. Also- perhaps the lady amalthea or the lilac wood from the last unicorn series? Something a little distant, like Leanan Sidhe might be nice as well. -
A really weeeiiiirrrd thing happened with this one. When I bought this, I first opened it up, and it smelled like windex, on and off. Not super. I put it aside for two months, and re-tried- an all of a sudden it was luscious honey/roses/cinnamon/honeysuckle herbaly goodness. What happened in those two months? I'm not sure- I guess the mojo started working. I gave it to my mom to see if the love magic works for her. Here's hoping!

What scents blend well with Japanese Cherry Blossom?
JasminDreams2010 replied to MadameFaye84's topic in Recommendations
I have heard people say that spirit of the komachi cherry tree is comparable but that wasn't so on my skin. For me, oddly enough, it was Follow Me Boy that seemed both blendable and comparable. (to my nose that oil is better if aged a little). Of course, I will add that I have weird skin chemistry (many things turn woody on me). That was my favorite fragrance before discovering bpal You could also check out Defututa, Dragon's Blood, maybe Dragon's Milk, and I think the new lupers have some yummy cherry blossom scents. Also- maybe you could layer it with something honey- based, I think that would be great. Good luck - oh, also I think Love Me could possibly work. -
This is a five-star fragrance on me. I was lucky enough to receive this as a gift from a friend, otherwise I might have missed it! My skin does tend to amp smoky/woody scents so I can't really smell too much of the coconut, just a rich, deep, incense blend with a little hint of pretty lily. It manages to be simple, yet with a harmonious effect that keeps it from being a single-note incense. exotic, elegant, calming, perfect for the holiday. I was inspired to google loi kathong since I hadn't heard of it. It sounds like such a beautiful holiday. I may have to go to thailand some day for this express purpose.

Let me just start by saying I love this one! I have to go procure funding for charity tomorrow, so maybe I will wear it and put the sleazy intentions to good use! This is one that got better with age. I do smell some jasmine, but I detect something more strongly from the ylang-ylang/honeysuckle family. I can't always pick out notes- but in this one I'm getting ylang or honeysuckle, jasmine, lemon, vanilla, some type of powder and maybe a warm skin musk. It's kind of like someone took Lush's flying fox shower gel, added some more honey, a little lemon- which, lush's flying fox is probably my favorite smell, pretty much ever on the planet. Follow Me, Boy starts out completely perfect, but one thing I do not like about this one is that as much as it smells great, my skin seems to drink it. 4.5 out of 5, deduction being for longevity. If they made this in gallon size, I'd consider buying that.
