In The Bottle: Artificial banana. Very sweet, and candy-like; there's absolutely nothing fruity about these bananas. As a kid, I used to eat a banana-flavoured candy with a foam-like texture (indeed, a Google search tells me now that they are called foam bananas). Splatter Comedy smells exactly like that, with no variation whatsoever. Incredibly sugary. Wet: Almost impossibly, this becomes even sweeter upon skin contact. Fortunately, it also becomes creamier, as a note of cream (or marshmallows?) edges its way in, like the topping of a banana pie. This is very sweet, even for me, a self-confessed gourmand-lover. This is almost cloying in its sweetness, which is rare for me to encounter. I couldn't imagine a non-foodie loving this one, except perhaps for its novelty factor. I sense no grease or blood at this stage. Dry: This hasn't morphed terribly much. In fact, I'd almost call it a banana single note (or, rather, a banana candy SN). This isn't at all real, and it has much more in common with the fare found in the candy aisle than that of the fruit one. This does mellow on the drydown, though, and becomes even creamier. This doesn't have much throw, but that's a positive thing - this one's so high octane that I can imagine a lot of people hating it. It is very intense, though, when huffed. Later: Oh, I take it back. This one is a morpher. About half an hour after application, Splatter Comedy develops into this beautiful vanilla-based scent. It's a very light, creamy marshmallow scent. This is stunning, and I wish it came as its own scent. Unfortunately, this is very close to the skin, and has almost no throw. On the flip side, it lasts for at least a few hours. Funnily enough, I'm finally getting the grease note mentioned in the notes, but no blood. The grease isn't apparent unless you're searching for it, though, thankfully. Verdict: As it was in the first stage? Ridiculous, in a fantastic way. I would have kept it solely for reasons of nostalgia and novelty, but I didn't love it. The second stage, though? Absolutely incredible. As it turns out, I don't love the smell of banana candy as much as I thought I would, but if it's what you're looking for, Splatter Comedy is perfect.

Oh, yum. I knew from the moment I read the descriptions of both the Lilith birthday scents this year that I would fall in love with them. Amazing. In The Bottle: Butterscotch, primarily, but I'm also getting notes of maple syrup. This is darker than I expected, which I find surprising - I figured this for a rich scent, yes, but not as dark as it is. Very sweet, nevertheless, and one of the strongest BPALs I've come across so far. There's actually an undertone beneath all the lovely caramelized goodness of the red fruity gumminess of MonsterBait: Bloody Mary. In fact, Anne Beany reminds me of Bloody Mary a fair bit in tone. They're not really in the same scent family (except for both being gourmands), but it has a similar feel. This is exceptionally foodie, which suits me perfectly. Wet: Applied on the skin, Pancake Breakfast immediately comes to mind. This transforms into PB's cake-like pancakes, but Anne Beany is richer and deeper. If Pancake Breakfast was drizzled with maple-flavored syrup, Anne Beany was drenched with actual maple syrup (in fact, it's more maple syrup with a side of pancakes than the other way around). This is wonderful. Unfortunately... Dry: ...Pancake Breakfast develops a plasticky note on me that comes across as almost mouldy. It certainly smells off. In Pancake Breakfast, this lasts for several hours before it wears off enough for me to enjoy it. The sad thing is, Anne Beany has this note, too. On the upside, this note is far less jarring in AB, and it's not enough to make me dislike it. As the bottle had calmed down from its travel, it's also diminished. Definitely in the same scent family as PB; very sticky and sugary. This wafts very well. Anne Beany is, despite the off note, one of my favourite BPALs ever. This is beautiful. I'm not sure how much cheesecake and/or crust I'm getting, but if I do as it ages, I'll edit. As is? An absolute multiple bottle purchase. I don't ever want to run out of this.

When I first started getting into BPAL seriously, which was a whole two or so months ago, I kept seeing this around on sales pages. I was vaguely aware that it was part of the Black Helicopters collection, which did not seem to suit my fragrance desires (of course, looking up the notes was way too logical, right? In my defense, BPAL has released a lot of scents, and I was trying to wrap my head around them, and acquire some more time-honored, beloved gourmands). When I finally got around to reading the notes and a few reviews, the Earl Grey, and - primarily - the 'strangely-glowing cucumber sandwiches' put me off, and I dismissed it. However, I purchased a cheap imp of this as an afterthought when purchasing a couple of bottles, and decided to dig this out of my ever-increasing imp collection yesterday to give it a try. In The Imp: Cake and biscuits, primarily. Both seem to be present in equal parts. I love this scent from first sniff, and I am fairly certain I'm going to love it on on me (cake and cookie* scents in particular do very well on my skin, which is fantastic, as they tend to be my favourite). This smells fabulous. I'm sensing a similarity between Teatime and I Fell In Love With A Floating Brain, which is a comparison I'm not sure anyone else has made. I get cucumber behind the lovely bakery scent, and a dash of pepper, which I'm attributing to the Earl Grey. Wet: Similar to previous stage, but immediately upon contact with my skin, both the cucumber and the tea start to come out (the former moreso). This is as delicious as before, just different. It is very much a gourmand, which I know some people despise, but Teatime strikes me as fairly inoffensive to the gourmand-haters (unless one is very much against them). That isn't to say it lacks personality; quite the opposite, actually. The cucumber takes the main stage here, with tea as a side act. I have to note here that I'm not familiar with this tea, so I'm getting a light pepper (perhaps white pepper, as opposed to the stuff usually served alongside table salt?). I do drink tea, but only herbal and chai, so I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between Earl Grey, and, say, standard black tea. Dry: The cake and biscuits return! All four notes blend very well here, and no one note takes precedence over the others. Again, I'm drawing the comparison to Floating Brain. I have two bottles of Floating Brain, and I do like it, but every time I try it, I'm disappointed; it's not love. I feel like I should love Floating Brain, but it lacks bite. This is like a better Floating Brain, like cucumber and tea on a backdrop of the cake-and-biscuit-fest that is FB. It's unlikely, and unexpected, but it works, very well. It's delicious. This may be one of my most-loved gourmands yet! I love this. Definitely a bottle purchase. Probably multiples. * = In Australia, we use the word 'biscuit' instead of 'cookie', generally speaking. This smells like vanilla-flavoured biscuits, in the Commonwealth English sense of the word.

I received Bedbug as a frimp from the amazing mimers99. You can imagine how excited I was to find this! So generous; thank you! I wish I had more to add than other reviewers, but this one seems to be fairly straightforward. I adore foody/gourmand scents, so this was fantastic. In The Imp: Although I suspected as such from the reviews (indeed, I put off opening this for several weeks because I was terrified I would fall in love with it), it's lovely. I'm getting a baked good that gingerbread-esque in nature - like gingerbread men, or gingersnap cookies. This is very straightforward, and not particularly open to my interpretation (in my opinion) - this is definitely gingerbread. I haven't yet tried any of the other gingerbread-based scents that BPAL has released, such as Gingerbread Poppet, or Invasion Of The Flesh-Eating Reindeer From Uranus, but this is definitely the scent I'd have in mind when trying them. Wet: Very similar to in the imp. Wet, however, the orange that previous reviewers detect begins to come out to play a little. It's not overwhelming, or even very evident, but it is present. Dry: Yum. The orange note is far more evident when this is dry, and the longer it remains on my skin, the more the orange comes out. This one is a morpher to me (although not hugely, such as Lilith Vs. The Giant Crab, which turned from a tangerine cream to a beachy aquatic on my skin). The gingerbread aspect fades, unfortunately, but that tea note that others mention replaces it; I do prefer the former, but only slightly. This seems to turn it from, say, a straight gingerbread scent to one emulating a gingerbread-based tea, with the prominent orange note. It loses its pastry edge, and the spices seem to come out more due to the appearance of the orange note. This is very well blended. I'm very thankful I got to try this. It is beautiful at all stages. I will keep my imp, for sure. I came across another imp, which I am swapping away, as I want others to try this, and I don't love it enough to hoard it, or seek out more, due to its rarity. I am glad that I waited to try it, as it definitely seems to suit Christmas. This has convinced me to hunt down the other gingerbread scents (although, frankly, I didn't need convincing). The orange and tea notes keep this one unique, though, so it's worth trying for sure, if possible. ETA: To get the name of Flesh-Eating Reindeer right!

I agree. I just received a bottle of The Elephantine Colossus, and it is almost all red musk, in an utterly amazing way. It is fairly foodie, and just incredible. I love it! If you're up for foodie scents at all, try this for sure.

Sorry for the double post. Just posting that I was lucky enough to snag a bottle of the Elephantine Colossus, and, although I haven't skin tested it yet (I am quite sick), it would definitely appear to fit in this category! It reminds me a little of Drink Me + red musk, - pineapple.

Hadn't come across Feeding The Dead before, thank you! I have Plastic Pink Flamingo on my list already, but that makes me want it even more. Are there any other cotton candy-ish scents? That's good news for me :] I am not really a person who tends towards apple scents. In particular, I'm not a fan of green apple scents, as I find them a tad bitter. I am very much excited for Creepy, especially given the rum and coconut. I'm weary of the green apple note in Candy Corn Coated Candy Apple (a lot of reviews mentioned that it is much more apple than caramel, which puts me off it), and I cannot for the life of me find a bottle (or imp, for that matter) of Sugar-Slathered Candied Apple, which, given its age and relative rarity, makes sense. I'm curious about Sticky Pillowcase. What kind of effect does that linen/lint note have on the scent? I was looking at reviews, and I'm wondering if perhaps Skytyping With Chemtrails is another possibly soda sent. I wouldn't have thought so from its note, but a lot of the reviews for it noted a definite lemonade scent, although probably just as many mentioned a more herbal kind of scent, so YMMV. Skytyping With Chemtrails: Incapacitating poofiness: spun sugar, white amber, white musk, citron, and lemongrass masking a sinister, almost chemical undernote of elemi, zdravetz, and ravintsara.

I'd imagine so! I have a bottle of Creepy coming my way now thanks to this recommendation. Also, I was wondering if Candy Corn Coated Candy Apple or Sugar-Slathered Candied Apple would have the same kind of feel? Candy Corn Coated Candy Apple: Tart green apples coated in thick gobs of melty granulated white sugar, with butter, bourbon vanilla, and a dash of cinnamon, spattered by candy corn and candy sprinkles. Sugar-Slathered Candied Apple: Sugar-slathered candied apple. With a dollop of caramel! Does anyone know of any differences between the three? They sound quite similar. I've been hunting down reviews, and have come up with a list of things that may fit into these category. Please note that I haven't actually tried them (yet!), so maybe someone who has can give their opinion? Sticky Pillowcase: Smushed candy corn, rock candy dust, marshmallow gunk, strawberry goo, spun blue sugar, globs of salt water taffy, and lint. Velvet Clown: Rum-soaked cotton candy, boot-stomped licorice whips and circus peanuts, scorched marshmallows, a dribble of corn whiskey, cigar smoke, and greasepaint. That screams carnival food to me. The reviews of this seem to vary somewhat. Velvet Unicorn: Spun sugar, sparkling rainbow candies, strawberries, merangue, and cherry fluff. I've heard quite a few comparisons to Midway, so it could be a possibility. In any case, the reviews suggest a cotton candy-ish scent. Geek.Goth: Highly caffeinated, profoundly sugared lemon-lime soda. Geek.Goth seems to be quite difficult to find in bottle form. I would love to hear suggestions of other soda scents.

My very first review! And my first real BPAL scent. How exciting. Wish me luck In The Bottle: I'm hesitant of this one at first. On first sniff, it smells like some sort of pastry background note, and a dominant cherry that's verging on cough syrup territory. Seems almost scented-candlesque in nature. Not awful, but not what I'd want to smell like, necessarily. Nonetheless: Wet: Similar to in the bottle, but, upon contact with skin, almost immediately begins to mellow. The cherry begins to morph into a cherry-with-strawberry in equal parts, and the pastry is much less intense. Dry: Lovely. I'd consider this to be more candy-like in nature thanks to the cherry and strawberry, although I was expecting more of a bakery scent. Nonetheless, the pastry is very much present. All three main notes are noticeable. Soon after applying, my boyfriend exclaimed that it smelled like something he'd been craving recently. After a minute, he figured it out - a desert pizza we order on occasion. It consists of thick yellow custard and stewed berries on a sweet pizza base, covered with pieces of sugared shortcrust pastry, and dusted with icing sugar. This is that, in perfume form. Later: The more it dries, Beaver Moon '07 loses its cherry-cough-syrup note, which beings to morph into general raspberry/strawberry/blackberry/etc. kind of note. This is definitely a good thing. The rest of the notes remain the same. Verdict: It's quite sweet, and not awfully sophisticated (which isn't to say it isn't gorgeous). Glad I got a bottle!

I had previously heard about Midway, but dismissed it offhand for a lack of availability. I might try to find some now, though, and Shill. Midway really does sound amazing, though. I just found out about Elephantine Collosus - the description certainly sounds like it fits (one of the first reviews in its review thread said that it smelled like 'carny food', which fits perfectly, I think. I'll try to hunt some of that down, too. I have a Bread-And-Butterfly bottle in the post atm, so I'll give that a try, and see. I'll update this thread when I get it, if anyone else wants to know. Thank you so much for your reply! I was wondering about the non-BPAL recommendations, so thank you for clarifying.

I apologize if this has already been done - I did a search, but couldn't find anything quite the same. I'm searching for scents that are like junk food. I suppose they would be gourmands/foody scents, but I'm specifically looking for things that aren't necessarily candy-, chocolate-, pastry-, cookie-, or cake-like in nature (e.g. scents like Sugar Skull, Bliss, Midway, Gingerbread Poppet, Eat Me, and so on), but, rather, more like things one would find at a fast food restaurant, or a movie theatre. The Dark Delicacies scent, The Snack Hut, springs to mind, given the description: Hot popcorn covered in a glowing golden liquid substance, fried things, and artificially flavored cherry frozen carbonated beverages, extra-loaded with high-fructose corn syrup. Unfortunately, it would seem that Snack Hut is extraordinarily hard to find! Does anyone have any other suggestions? I can understand that scents that combine multiple concepts are rarer, so I would be as thrilled if someone had any ideas for singular related scents, such as a scent that smells like Coca Cola, or popcorn, for example. I would also love anything that mimicked state fair or carnival food type scents, such as fried cookie dough, or something (Violette Market's State Fair release is the kind of thing I'm talking about).
