This really is a weird scent... final verdict is I love Virginia! I'll tell ya why (it has nothing to do with the fact that I want to move there, or that it reminds me of my Grandma, bless her heart) I smell the frankincense, and the caramel, tonka, orchid and tobacco... Seperately, none of those are "favorite" notes. And Virginia is a wafter and morpher! When I smell it, this is what I picture: A hot and sunny afternoon in the foothills, there are wildflowers all over the yard, and cigarette smoke lingering in the air. It actually reminds me more of something opium-esque than red musk.

This scared the bejeesus out of me at first, because when I first opened the imp, it smelled like thick rich butter!! But, I braved testing it, and it turns out it is lovely!! Sweet honeyed vanilla. I don't get any of the strawberry. Maybe an ever so mild tinge of something sweet, but not necessarily strawberry. My favorite of the Courtesans.

I stand corrected: The label actually reads "Chaos Theory 2 CLVIII" --Now what the hell is that?? ETA: Nevermind, I found Chaos 2 in Reviews and figured it out. Wow, these really are chaotic!!! LOL And it's funny, I can almost trace the path that this oil has been on before me. And they got honey floral, or lavender, or lemon out of it. Funny, I get amber and pink musk out of it!

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

I found Gods of Intercourse and Belle Vinu to be nearly identical. They both give off a "pretty peach soap" vibe, in a good way. -
Thank gods I found this thread before posting a new one!!! I'm necrobumping this because I have not been around for a live Chaos Theory, and we've had a wave of noobs lately who may come across a Chaos Theory or read about one/them and be intrigued. I was frimped a Chaos Theory by a generous forumite, and had never tried one before. It's quite nice, I like it a lot! However, I was at a loss when searching for a review and list of notes for it, LOL!!! I still cannot ID it, it only says "Chaos Theory VII".

I don't know if anyone else has run into this, but something important to know when shipping packages to CANADA for sales ans swaps: You cannot mark it as "Perfume" on the customs slip. I sent one out earlier in the week at one PO location, and she lady told me I could not send perfume, because it has alcohol in it, and you cannot send alcohol based things to Canada. (??) I clarified with her that it is perfume OIL, and without any alcohol. She had me add the word "oil" to the description, and it was okay. Today I sent another one out to Canada, at a different PO location, and almost got into a fight with the lady, because I filled out the customs slip "Perfume Oil" and she told me I was not able to send it. I told her I just did three days ago, and she said it cannot say "perfume" or "cologne" at all. So I crossed out perfume and wrote "essential" and she took it. After that, I really hope the one I sent on Tuesday gets to the recipient without problem! Also, I did indeed notice that my shipping was charged more when I marked "merchandise" on the slip, so instead I check "Gift", and it seems it costs me less to send. (Sorry if this thread is supposed to be for online purchasing and shipping to Canada, and not sales or swaps from here! I just thought I'd share what I know for forum info).

She Who Blesses Brides White rose, apple blossom, spun sugar, mango, cucumber, freesia, coconut, and lavender. I couldn't resist Nymphia for all the different beautiful notes grouped in it together. When I tested the decant for the first time, I knew I had to have a bottle. It is absolutely lovely!!!! Sweet but not cloying, and layered and well blended. Sweet, floral, an element of coolness from the cucumber and lavender, sweet sugar and apple blossom, a hint of a bite from mango, and it just wafts and teeters back and forth on the edge between those elements. The coconut serves as a background note on me, like the glue holding the other notes in place. It's not all foody, not all floral... just a beautiful (in the total sense of the word beautiful) scent that is dreamy and happy and springy! ETA: Description

BPAL scents appropriate for very young children?
Lorna Brigid replied to beetiger's topic in Recommendations
As evidenced in the "Spills" thread, my six year old daughter LOVES Joyful Moon. I don't let her wear any... but I did once let her have a swipe of Mouse's Long Sad Tale, and she liked that! She's more interested in smelling them than wearing them, so far, thankfully. -
I fell in love with Smut 2010 late last year, and when I saw it was rereleased for 2011, I bought two bottles the morning after the update! Womb Furie, Nymphia and Valentine of Rome are big hits for me this year. Gods of Intercourse and Kypris deserve honorable mentions as well.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

So of course I'm in love with Mysterious Warning, which is no longer available. It is My Perfect Lavender! But alas, it is hard to come by. So, I just tried an imp of Lurid, and it seems pretty close! I've only had it a couple days though. So what do you guys think? Is Lurid a comparable substitute for MW, or is this my wishes influencing my nose? -
I have to admit this was an impulse buy, as I was looking for something to throw in with Sugar Moon, and then Metal Rabbit. By itself I was not attracted to all these notes. I'm not a mint, fur or juniper fan. However, all the skin testing I am doing recently with Lupers and a big tax refund lab order, I'm remembering why you really have to take your time to get to know a scent before you judge it! WILF is quite the morpher!! At first I get such a bit of juniper and peppermint, I am turned off. I'm thinking "Whoa, holy peppermint and juniper, this is too menthol for my tastes!" But after 15 or 20 minutes, that calms out and the other notes come through; the "fur" the musks, the patch and champaca.... And it all blends into this unusual, yummy, comforting and alluring scent. This miiiiight need a back up bought! I see what all the fuss is about! Color me converted!

I was very nervous about some of the notes in Metal Rabbit, as my luck with citrus blends tend to be iffy. On Wet: Stroooong citrus, bordering on a lemony cleaner, which makes me nervous. After a couple of minutes: the peony and plum blossom shine through, and tame the citrus. This is gorgeous!!!!!! Masterfully crafted layers of citrus, floral and dragon's blood fill my senses and it is just beautiful! I'm so glad I took the chance on this bottle!

Well, it's official: BPAL cake likes me! Yay!!!! On Wet: It smells exactly like a cake: a sweet, buttery, berry cake. The butter or tart never goes bad on me. A few minutes later, a light hint of rose petals wafts through. It is subtle. I agree with Panance, that this is neither floral nor foody, yet both at the same time. I am surprised by how much I am loving huffing on my arm right now!

It took me forever and a day of testing this to make up my mind what I thought! There is something about War I really really love like I knew I would before I ever tried it; I love the red musks and the ginger. Yet there is something in it that smells kind of.... waxy? That one note (I"m not sure what it is) keeps me from all out loving War like I want to. But overall I love her. Haven't made up my mind about a full bottle. We'll see. Oddly, when I tested it again for the third or fourth time, I was sick, and found the scent to be comforting!

An itch that needs to be scratched: Snake Oil and three types of honey. I'm not a Snake Oil lover. (Lettin my freak flag fly, I guess!) I'm "Meh" about most honey blends, and don't care about ever trying O. But this..... oh man, I GET IT!!! This is "uh, mah, gah.... love it!" Rich, spicy, vanilla sweet honey without being too foody.... Ok, ok, I'll order a bottle! Twist my arm will ya!

My interpretation of Kypris: Crushed SweetTarts powder sprinkled on an Easter lily. That is what Kypris smells like to me. A little more than that, obviously, it has this sweetness, slight tartness, and a lightly musky feel, like silky. I waffled on this all morning, and finally landed on the love it side! Definitely a pretty spring scent!
-
I completely agree this is like a spring evening! Soft, kind of sweet, and just beautiful! Not too warm or cool, not too sweet.... and it actually kind of smells like childhood to me! If I seriously mix it with Dove's Heart, it smells just like I smelled as a little girl. Weird. Absolutely lovely. I'm not a Snake Oil or Dorian fanatic, but this is love in a bottle.
-
I never reviewed this? Really? Wow. Joyful Moon is in my top 5 forever. How beautiful, with the thick french vanilla, the white musk amping up the florals like frangiapani and honeysuckle... Cheerful, sophisticated and complex, yet feminine and playful. Absolutely divine scent!

Got my bottle, got my bottle!!! In the bottle: no other way to describe but red, sweet and verrrra pretty! Wet: The pom and the patchouli jump out ahead of the rest. Drydown: The sandalwood, tobacco and frankincense poke out, and though I can see a slight resemblance to Mme. Moriarty, but it is quite different enough. After a few minutes the raspberry peeks out, and this is marvelously blended. I concur that this will most likely age beautifully. I'm very glad I got it. I will need more time with it to know if it warrants hoarding, though. So far it is a beautiful win on me! Yay! I love it. ETA: I wore this all day at work today, and the verdict is in: Needs more bottles of this! I've decided it's effect is like a red version of Voodoo in a way; you know, if Voodoo is a golden greenish colored scent, this is the red one. This is love!

Is there anything in the GC that would come equivalent or close to Ops? I wish I could get a 5 ml of Ops, but alas, that is not meant to be. -
This was a frimp from a forumite, and I would never have put it on my list to try. But I am loving it! (Note to self: Duh, you love myrrh!) In the imp: Myrrh and floral. On me: I thought this scent was supposed to be masculine or gender neutral... I can sense the gender neutrality, but it is so sweet! Resiny and floral and herbal... slightly soapy but that just gives it a freshness, not a yuckiness. It is well blended and really pretty! Sweet, almost gourmand but not. Incensey to where I can see the embalmeyness but not too much. I think I need more time with this imp, but this may be bottle worthy!
-
This really is a purpley blue scent, to me. I honestly cannot make up my mind if I like it, LOL! In the imp, the frankincense and blue musk are most prominent. On my skin and after drydown, every note listed pokes out at any given time. It is very pretty, and very floral. Not very sweet at all, there is a bitterness, here (the mugwort?) It's pretty, I just haven't made up my mind yet if it is me.
-
I was fortunate to get this as a frimp from a forumite. In the imp: I was afraid it would be yet more of the Shub Niggurath/Gingerbread Poppet type of thing. Nutmeg and spice cake baked goods. On my skin: The spiced cake is still there, but it opens up with a a dark fruity scent that is just heavenly. I wish I could buy a big bottle of this!

Sweet, thank you!
