I really didn't submit my review of this?? Really?!? Could have sworn I had....but there is no page of lines on the icon for the topic, so I must not have... I'm a rarity here, I actually do NOT love Banshee Beat. I recall I got my bottle from Urban Outfitters, a day or two before xmas, whenever this was still out, be it a year or two ago. I sold it within the same hour it had been delivered to my door! Not only did I smell dirty hippie, I smelled old dead dirty hippie's money!! The drydown was no better. There was no syrupy sweet vanilla to save me. It was really raunchy on me, and made me . Death and money is really the best way I can describe it. It was baaaaaaad. All you guys can have it, it is not for me!

What to wear to a Dr. Who-themed burlesque show?
Lorna Brigid replied to Wwindy's topic in Recommendations
First of all, I'm terribly jealous!! Second, Black Heart, Smut or Snake Oil are all good choices for burlesque. Other options are London, Victoria, or Steamworks. Door may be good, too. -
I can't believe I never reviewed this one! It is one of my most favorites. On initial application I can smell the cocoa-esque scent and the wine together... It's like a flat cola with a few drops of red wine..and then coming out of the drydown is that beautiful nepalese amber that I love sooooo much!!! This really melds and mixes with my chemistry to be one beautiful scent!!! The nicotiana and patch kind of flow along the amber and cocoa and wine, keeping them on track together. This is my signature "keep me warm on new year's eve" scent. But oh my, how I loooooove the nepalese amber!!!!

Smelling Weeping Branches Moon to me, is like tasting a juicy watermelon Jolly Rancher candy! It's sweet and juicy, fruity and floral. It is almost glittery, if that makes sense.

The notes in this sounded beautiful! Especially when I was on my hunt for the perfect vanilla scent for myself last year. It's not NOT lovely, because it is. It even has an "Irish" feel to it, if you will. A sort of cooling effect. A few minutes after drydown, it becomes apparent to me that it smells like something I have smelled before, but can't quite place....then I realize, it smells exactly like Arrid Extra Dry solid to my nose. That must be the cardamom doing that. A pretty vanilla floral, for sure, but I can't get past the deodorant quality.

I agree with this being like Underpants....it is like Underpants with a sophisticated citrus floral! Gah, it is sooo good the more I huff. It's not FOODY, normally I don't like freesia and peach can be iffy, but I took a chance and this is nom nom nom! It also has a Haloes like quality to it, even though the notes listed aren't the same. Hope I can find a bottle one day!

Finally after all this time I got to try Temple Viper... and omg this is soaring into my top 10 in less than 24 hours on!!! ...it is Snake Oil mixed with...Michigan Renaissance Festival!! Lol Seriously! It must be the champaca. I think they burn champaca incense at Fest. This isn't quite what I expected, but soooo good! Now I need the CD back so I can get 5 bottles!

This scent looked so wonderful to me based on the notes....plus I love the title because I am trying to break into the legal field this year. That's the degree I am graduating with this year. Thanks so much to my lovely fairy for getting this for me!!!! On initial opening and application, it reminds me strongly of OFF mosquito repellant... that worried me greatly at first. But on drydown, this becomes just like the vanillic base of my beloved Raven Moon! I don't know why. The notes listed do not match up. Other people have noted it smelling like Snow White...I could not do Snow White because it smelled like a plastic bag on me, so I would not know about that. But it smells just like the base notes of Raven Moon 2012 to me. After an hour or two of beautiful sandalwood, orris and musk, the amber and tobacco pop out and make themselves more prominent. The amber gives it just a slight touch of sweetness, but just a touch. The tobacco gives it...I'm not sure how to describe that tobacco quality, gives it a kind of heat so it is not completely cold. It is evocative of something like a Jovan musk or something else I have worn in the long ago past. It doesn't smell like Jovan musk, but it has the same qualities and feels similar. It stays very close to the skin and would not overpower anyone. I myself cannot smell anything but the tobacco and touch of musk notes unless I huff my arms. This will be a beautiful soft scent to wear on hot summer days or nights, and I'm so grateful to have gotten a bottle! ETA: Grammar fail

BPAL for fancy, elegant and formal occasions

Anne Bonny is what I wear whenever I do anything pirate related. -
I want a BPAL that smells like Bath & Body Works...

I just popped in here to ask this very question!! I have the Sandalwood Vanilla wallflower in my bedroom, and have been thinking "I wanna wear a bpal that smells like this!" No, Morocco is not it. I looooove Morocco, but it too sweet to dupe the Sandalwood Vanilla. -
What is in this that is lemony?!? I was sooo looking forward to this one. On application, I get the pretty lavender, honey, red musk, and something kind of cool smelling. It seems like it is going to be uh-mazing!! But then after a few seconds something comes through that smells like LEMON!! Perhaps it is the peru balsam? Whatever it is, sadly it ruins the otherwise beautiful blend for me.

What BPAL would this fictional character wear?
Lorna Brigid replied to Flowermouth's topic in Recommendations
I've just become a fan of the Vampire Diaries, and for some reason I am certain that Elena would wear Black Opal. -
I've never tried Black Lace (I know, blasphemous almost, right? I'm just not one to actively seek out those HTFs) but this is actually quite similar to Raven Moon on me, which I love. I mean, I really love the most current incarnation of Raven Moon. LOVE it. But it also has that touch of smoky dry leaves plus sweetness, that just makes it scream AUTUMN!!! Occasionally as it wafts about, it almost reminds me a little of Samhain here and there. After drydown, after a couple hours, it is a very light throw and gets faint. Leaves behind a light and slightly smoky sweetness. That's the first BPAL in a long time that has done that, and stays so close to my skin. But alas, it is beautiful and lives up to expectations and hype.

MY perfect lavender blend is Mysterious Warning, because I like my lavender a little sweet and not too herbal, but not syrupy sweet. But YMMV. I will say, it is true that lavender has a calming, knock out quality, that is why it's a main ingredient in TKO. When my daughter is too squirrely, and indeed when she was a baby and colicky, I would burn a Lavender Fields candle in her bedroom and she calms right down. (I did the same thing to her father when he got on my nerves and I wanted him to get sleepy, he was none the wiser to it, lol).

2012: Omg I was sooo looking forward to getting this blend, and it did not disappoint!!! This is definitely evocative of soft blue black feathers with a slightly sweet vibe. There is not much difference between the wet and the drydown for me, so I'm skipping that part and going with overall review. Usually black musks are powder/no good on me, but this ebony musk must be special. The way it melds with the benzoin, myrrh and patch is quite magickal. The vanilla, nutmeg and chili float surreptitiously on the top in and out, creating the slight sweetness vaguely discernible through the smoke of the base notes. Yeah, it's that good. This is one of the most beautiful Lunacies I've ever smelled. Well done Beth!!!

I want a BPAL that smells like Bath & Body Works...

I would love to find BPAL to do BBW's Black Raspberry & Vanilla. I've tried Akuma, and there us another GC that starts with an A I can't think of right now... neither of them are any good on me. The only raspberry scent I have and love is Red Lace. But it's heavy with the frank and the tobacco, so it isn't much like BR&V. Ideas? -
I initally wasn't sure if I was drawn to any of the Pandora scents, but my curiosity got to me and I ordered Pandy and Alcie. You should know that orange blossom is generally not my friend. Ahem..... Oh Pandy, well you came and You gave without taking But I sent you away Oh Pandy, well you kissed me and Stopped me from shaking And I need you today oh, Pandy The honeycomb, elemi and apricot are what stick out the most on me with this. Totally lovely! It's like a sweet, slightly foody yet slightly floral warm scent with a light tang or soft bite that is there but isn't. I'm waffling on a bottle purchase! (And singing Barry Manilow tunes, apparently)

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

I loooove Velvet Tiger. And I don't have a reaction to cinnamon. But Velvet Tiger gives me a red rash! -
Alright, I'm no noob, but.....*hands on hips* What is this "Hellion" you all speak of?? How could I have missed plum and sugared incense when I was hunting for my sweet incense blend?!? Granted I found Witch Queen, but what is Hellion? What category is it in? Is it Discont'd? I can't find it.

Oh Liaison, you naughty little minx!! You weren't supposed to work on me because of that black musk thing. But ohhhh..... I sniff and my eyes roll back in my head. You're hired! This is like... a powdery Poison! Wet, I get the sandalwood and clove. Frank says hi, but not too loudly. Dry, the black musk rounds it out and powders it down a little, but not in a bad way. This is very well blended. Very nice. Want moar!

Ella, for months over the winter and spring I went nuts trying to find the perfect sweet incense blend. Now, this was more of a "purple" sweet incense than a sugary sweet incense, but sweet incense nonetheless: WITCH QUEEN. OMG I lovelovelove this blend, and I highly recommend you get to try a decant of it!!!!! ETA: Also, for sugary boozey incensey musk, any SMUT will do.
-
Losing Haloes?!? I DO need to try Three Brides and Spirit of the Komachi Cherry Tree though.

This is absolutely the best "Clean, laundry" scent I've ever tried!! This is what I wished Dirty would have been!! Wonderful linden blossom, not too soapy, just clean and beautiful. Like barreling into a fresh pile of cleaned and dried laundry and huffing an amazing fabric softener. I think I may need a bottle of this.
-
I searched for a sweet purpley incense blend for QUITE awhile. I went through Oya, Urd, Purple Phoenix, and a bunch of others... Prior reviews made me a little afraid this would be a letdown... tuberose and I don't generally get along, and someone likened this to a Mme. Moriarty lite? Which to me is Eat Me, which I already have. But, I found my sweet incense holy grail here! In the bottle it smells amazingly sweet; that is the plum and musk. On me, it is sweet plum smoke with wisps of pretty floral poking out. This is dark and smoky and sweet, without being too heavy or cloying. The juicy plum and red musk give it a warmth, while the calla lily and tuberose give it a cooling touch. The beeswax never really makes itself known to me. This is light enough to me to wear anywhere, in any season, yet strong enough to say "sexy mystical woman is here." It makes me feel like...myself.

Ginger scents & the different types of ginger notes
Lorna Brigid replied to Lorna Brigid's topic in Recommendations
Ha ha, when I first saw this thread, that's what I immediately thought of! "Didn't I do a ginger recs thread a long time ago??" LOL And someone here mentioned my favorite, too, which is Origins Ginger Essence. The closest I found is honestly Mother Ginger.
