Any blends that smell like Black Opal?
lookingglass replied to underwaterlily's topic in Recommendations
I found Morocco to be closest, but really, there's nothing quite like it. It's like a vanilla stone...so beautiful! -

Tamora, for sure. You might try Imp, too. -

I'm all about the honey and "old lady" scents, so you may not want to take advise from me! I found Defututa to be ...a sweet creamy floral! It is not an overly spicy scent; I don't think a lay person would smell it and go: "CINNIMON!", and while I am often sensitive to it, it didn't break me out. I think it's very pleasent and easy to wear...sweet but kind of fresh, too. I don't usually wear many florals, but Defutua makes the list. It's definately a sexy honey scent! I'm wearing Kali today, and wanted to suggest her as well! Again...honey! with a splash of fruity wine, rich florals, and a dust of cocoa. I like the balance of creamy, dusty, and floral in this blend.

Snow White and Pink Snowballs!

Oh! I LOVE this!! It is closely related to Old Demons, (which I also LOVE) with the spicy, dark, oppoponax, deliciously resiny thing going on. Godfather is even darker, though, more woody, with the barest touch of dried rose. Old Demons is chewier, stickier, with more lift (from clove, musk, and neroli), more like fresh gum resin, where Godfather is more like dried incense, both expertly crafted by a Dark Arts potion master. Dried out....ooooh, it's so wonderfully CREEPY! Like dried roses long abandoned in a dusty, wooden box. It has a nod to classic perfumes, as well...like hiding in a closet of vintage coats.

Something sweet and STRONG? *newbie*
lookingglass replied to Katlastrophe's topic in Recommendations
Sweet and Strong are my FAAAAVORITES!!!! All of the above! Plus Mme Moriarty (sweet, fruity, dark red musk), the Other Miss Forcible (strange scent that reminds me of dark rum, taffy, and vintage perfume), Le Lethe (sweet, spicy musk) and Goblin (patchouli and sweet coconut). -
Hell's Belle! Sweet, smoky and sensually wicked. A thick, steamy scent, truly sinister in its voluptuous sexuality. The perfume of a demon's favored consort, or of the devil herself. Oleander with wet, sweet mandarin, lush magnolia, a rush of deep musk and a touch of spice.

Some Strangeness in the Proportion
lookingglass replied to dementia_divine's topic in Limited Editions
I had to have this vanilla sandalwood, especially if it is distorted! At first sniff, I just smell "Oh, yes!"; this is my kind of scent. It is a classic oriental that never existed. It is slightly spicy, sweet and woody...sophisticated and delicious at once. Then it gets weird. I smell incense, and...new doll heads? I asked my husband what he thinks it smells like. He gives it the "Gah! I love it!" face, then gets a far away look...he says it kind of reminds him of playing Barbies with his childood friends in a treehouse in the summer...but if there was also incense burning...skin and wood and dolls all heated up...but a memory revisited that does not seem quite so innocent...and is now slightly disturbing. LOL! It's like a spookier, creepier, woodier, Mouse's Long And Sad Tale without the flowers, which I think of as a pink amber. SSoP is slightly pink, but with a strong sepia filter...older...more mature and developed. I think it's related to The Other Miss Forcible in its dark sweetness, but SSoP has more lift from the pepper. I'm stocking up. -
Red roses, dazzling crystalline musks, and pearlescent coconut-tinged orris. I was craving more rose at this start of Spring (Whoso List to Hunt, Pink Snowballs, and Spellbound are my faves, but... . I love coconut, orris, and musk. I don't know how I've overlooked this scent for so long! Wet, this is aaaall big, plush, velvety rose. It takes quite a few minutes for the other notes to emerge, and when they do, it's subtle. I notice the orris coming through, drying some of the juciness of the rose...it reminds me of a bath bomb. I wouldn't guess there was coconut here, but it's adding a delicately sweet creaminess that orris could attempt to claim herself. It takes many more minutes for the delicious musk to take the stage, at once both fresh and creamy; they twinkle like the musks in Fae (my favorite white musk blend). The fresh roses are always the star of the show but do have some costume changes: plump, slightly powdery, then tangy...slightly lemony. I would recommend this if you are looking for a rose scent that is just a bit more complex than a single note. I adore it.

This smells like a cup of creamy, sweet, coconut chai with marshmellow fluff on top! It's so delicious! Dried down, it has almost an incense quality to it. Hoardworthy!

This scent is all light, sweet incense on me...a perfect resin blend for the warmer months. I am surprised there are no wood notes listed because I get a creamy, tanginess that seems like sandalwood. It reminds me a bit of Morocco, but not as dense...kind of like Caron's Bellodgia (carnation with clove and airiness) but so much better and BPALish. It's all flushed, plump flesh on the drydown, slightly spicy and clean. This was a frimp from the Lab, and I think I need a bottle!

Gauko, The Black Rider, and Hellfire!

I suggest you try them all.

U really does smell just like the Mutter-I love it there! -
Mmmmmm hmmmmmmm.....! Sometimes red musk can smell kind of dusty on me, but the thick opoponax is smoooooooothing it out. This is a dark, syrupy rose, almost a reduction of a rose..not a fresh rose..more like an attar. Molasses like...yes...but dark red, not at all sulfuric. I can DO this rose. Simple. Brilliant. Drop dead gorgeous.

This is a playful, fresh, fruity floral that would be a great intro to BPAL for more mainstream fragrance lovers. At first it's all peach, but soon gets a little green, with a slightly skanky, pink drydown. I was just smelling Juicy Couture yesterday, which I secretly kind of like, and The Elephant's Leash has a very similar feel.

Qandisa gets two eyerolls of ecstasy in this house (from me aaaand my partner! PLUS!). I am NOT a lemon lover, not even a lemon LIKER, but DO go for all things smelling dark and honey dripping. This instantly reminds me of a Variety of Pleasing Amusements, but with a bit more lift. The vetiver is prominent right out of the bottle, but the drydown is all about the saffron honey. Have you ever made yourself the healing syrup with buckwheat or dark wildflower honey and a ton of cinnamon? The heart of the scent is like that, but with saffron instead of cinnamon...dripping on a heaving bosom! Sometimes black musk can be lemony on its own, but truly...I'm not getting ANY lemon (thank the STARS!), just a deep, fresh, animalic, unisex musk. MERCY this is GOOD! It's a sticky, rich, musky oriental, baby ...dark, slightly foody...like the bakery section of the international market, right next to the incense... oh, so divinely SEXY... one of those that just becomes a PART of me. DE-freakin'-LICIOUS! If you know you are my scent twin or love the likes of Snake Oil, Old Demons of the First Class, and the Other Miss Forcible, just getcha self some of THIS! I'm SO glad this is GC. Top o'the BIG BOTTLE list for THIS BPALista!

Best BPALs for SUMMER - is it hot, sweltering, sticky outside?
lookingglass replied to Donnababe's topic in Recommendations
I pulled out the White Rabbit today. I crave it when it's warm. I find it refreshing but still a bit "hot body" like from the milk note. -
I agree with all above, and for spicy and badassed also recommend Sin and Old Demons of the First Class! P.S. Have ya tried the Snake Oil...?
-
I LOVE Egyptian Goddess, too! I've worn it since I was a teenager-smells like warm, happy, hippy times. I often crave it at bedtime, or when I need a break from my usual heavy, sweet wardrobe. The BPAL that feels and smells the closest to me is Bastet.
