Looking for BPAL that resembles a Body Shop scent
lookingglass replied to zennun's topic in Recommendations
An LE, I know, but Luperci is clean and woody musk. Very masculine to my nose. A tad of honey dry, but not too sweet. It is DH's new fave. -
Very woody, with that clean juniper edge (too much for my sweet taste, but RIGHT up DH's ally~I have his top 10 listed in my sig as well, if you want to compare tastes). The ambrette and musk combination is very masculine and sexual...quite a natural "man sex" smell, I think, without being overpowering. A deep, slightly sweet finish with the honey. This is DIVINE on my man. I am so glad I got some at the last minute!

A quiet scent, soft, calm and enigmatic. A perfume of mystery, of whispers, and of secrets behind secrets. White sandalwood, lilac, gardenia, violet, orris, lavender and ylang ylang.
Very dry and herbal initially, not the creamy breath of white floral I was hoping for. Lavender, lavender, lavender. Wah. Reminds me of YSL Paris, a bit. For a whisper of a floral, I'm going with Ouija.

Dragon's blood is funny on me...I don't know if I like the oil or not it or not. When I use the resin in ritual work, it smells...resinous...smoky. The oil, though, is so SWEET, and almost salty, too. Wrath is giving me mostly dragon's blood with a little spicy kick. A bit of pepper~I really wanted it to make me sneeze! If I want sweet and spicy, I'll be wearing Chimera.

Initially this is super lavender...very herbal and fresh. Whoa. On the drydown, a hint of dark rose emerges with a little citrus...hmmm, and a tiny bit of spicy. I am thinking Harlot, but not as strong with the rose. The jasmine is sweet, a little sharp, but beautiful with the spice and musk...very unique. Dried out it is a fresh, floral powdery musk, but there is something slighty vinegary..is that the jasmine? DH hates florals, but notices that the musk is holding all of it down. It is like Gauko and Phantom Queen's baby. If Chimera is my end of the winter scent, than Sophia follows close behind. I don't know if I'll keep her yet, though: The musk is not as forward as I'd like. Phantom Queen's apple note is what I love the best about that floral/herbal blend. We'll have to wait and see.

Moonrose. My garden at night in the summer...it is really the only thing that I like about summer...too much sun, ya know?

Eris smells like watermelons to me.

Floral Recs for those who usually don't like florals
lookingglass replied to Neko's topic in Recommendations
I love Snake Oil, and wear it nearly everyday, despite my collection. I am pulling out the Skuld (ylang ylang and honey) and Fae (peach and creamy white musk) for the occasional Spring fling, though. Tiger Lily is one of my favorite light florals, too; It is a delicate sweet honey on me. Edit to add Ouija...though I like to wear it in the Winter. It is light, white rose, but quite dusty with the woods. It is the only "dry" BPAL I love. -

How about Peitho, the Ghost, or Ouija? -
I think this is quite like Perversion (DH's #2 fave) but with a bright top note and a delicious drydown...mmm, vanilla and white musk with LEATHER. How could it be more sexy?
-
Very gingery when wet. As it dries, it becomes slighty fruity, and a little creamy, but the ginger stays very sharp. It is not as sweet or milky as I anticipated. It reminds me a bit of White Rabbit, but not as complex.
-
This is like a more complex Chimera on me. Very spicy cinnamon with a sweetness underneath that must be the amber. I don't detect any citrus or rose; OK, it gets a little bit powdery at the end~that may be the rose.
-
Going on this does smell quite like a mineral, almost astringent, but natural...like a wet mineral. What IS that? Lavender, violet? Drying down, it becomes sweet and round with vanilla and white musk. It is everything that I had hoped Antique Lace would be~sweeter and softer, but more sophisticated. I think I could wear this anytime, anywhere. It is cool, but fiery. Much like my beloved Snow White but much more sophisticated.

An ancient formula that inspires unrepentant decadence, lechery and debauch. Out of the bottle this is sweet and strange...is that flowers or dragon's blood swirling in confusion? As soon as it hits my skin, it becomes so creamy and delicious (amber? vanilla?), with a hint of spice and a wiff of a white floral. I have been searching for a BPAL with a creamy white floral (gardenia, tuberose...) and this is IT. It reminds me of Michael Kors (tuberose and incense notes) but BPAL~ed and SO MUCH BETTER!!!! This scent evokes strong visuals of alters to the Sacred Whore: feminine icons surrounded by offerings of sweet cakes, candles, incense, and adorned with flowers. It is both delicate and seductive, the virgin and the whore. This makes me think of a lighter, less festivious DDLM. It is multilayered, breathtaking, and so...special. Big bottle list for sure.

Buttery. Coconut. Rum. Yup...

A bright, thin spark of the orange and lavender are the first to hit: a really colorful acord. On the drydown, the woods and amber combine beautifully. I usually turn woods to sawdust, but here, with the amber, the parchment comes alive, like the Marauder's Map. It is clean, sweet, and earthy all at the same time. DH says it smells like a pirate's wench...that is a good thing around here! I'll be keeping this little deary.
-
Sexy, haunting, classy, unstopable... The rose is nearly undetectable in the bottle, but blooms fresh and red once it hits my skin. Drying down, though, it is sweet amber and sultry musk, with just a hint of powdery rose...delicious. I will save this one for special evenings out.

This IS a gypsy carnivale: colorful silks on tattooed bodies twirling in the dark, dizzying playful music, fire eaters, spicy stomped flowers in the dust of the hot earth, the juice of sweet fruit, with a big dollop of the lust for it all... Bring it back!
-
Labdanum is also very ambery~sweet, creamy resin. Skuld is my new fave, and I think it is quite ambery.

BPAL for Good Luck, Good Fortune, Good Karma

Aromatherapeuticly, bergamot, frankincense, jasmine, rose, lavender, orange and clary sage are used for aiding depression. Personally, I am soothed by sweet scents like vanilla and honey. I am thinking of Alice, with the bergamot, rose, and soft milk note, or Skuld with ylang ylang and honey. Hope this helps... -
Cathedral smells like church...the burning incense, the pews, the dust, and the divine. It smells heavenly on DH. It is now in our top 10. It must be experienced to be believed.

Being. warm, pulsing... the sweet pounding of life wafts on the air around the fresh memory of the flesh so new surrounding the soul so ancient... Must...have...a...big...bottle. Skuld is everything I wanted and more. A delightful skin scent; not the blatant sweet sex of O, but definitely in the same category... slightly more transparent... If O is a deep, warm golden honey color, Skuld is it is like the color of creamy white flesh itself complete with the hint of blue veins beneath, and the pink flush of the cheeks. This is a tiny bit floral, but the clean musks make this scent fresh, yet so sensual. Wear this everywhere...it stays close.

Black musk sometimes does the playdough thing...Haunted comes to mind... I think wearing less makes it less noticable.

Hecate, Snake Oil, Velvet, O, and Jacob's Ladder if you can find it. I like my resins nice a sweet, though...
