In the bottle and wet, I can pick out all of the notes, but especially the butter. Very foody and true to the desciption. What an undertaking! The turkey is more smokey that meaty (thank godness). Dried out this smells like Toasted Vanilla Sugar (aka Suave or BBW type).

Wet this IS MUMS! I just planted some of the beauties, and this smells just like my hands did after putting them in the ground: a dark green and spicy with a deep earthiness. Drying down the opium is sweet and thick. Delicious! Completely dry there is a perfumey muskiness...sweet, slightly floral; the scent has changed from a dark green to a dark brownish rose (for those who see scent in color...). Perfect for fall. Just perfect.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
lookingglass replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
Many people have reactions to cinnamon or cassia (including myself). I love the smell, and eat the finest Vietnamese cinnamon almost daily, but the oil cannot touch my skin. -
Best BPAL for gym, workout, sports, exercise?

Hunger, and her vanilla, lasts for DAYS on me, even through showers. I think that Snake Oil is a permanent undersmell to my skin now. It also lasts and lasts, but I can bearly smell it anymore! -
The Lowdown on Incense & Resin - The Best Recommendations
lookingglass replied to Ms. MSGirl's topic in Recommendations
Hmmmm. I have to agree that incense is often woody and there are many resins that can "go bad" on some people. A lot of the incense blends that I wanted to love were just overpowered by the floral aspect. Look here at Scent of the Earth for specifics on what is considered incense and resin. You will find several BPAL blends with labdanum (very ambery, one of my favorites), galbanum, and oponax(sweet myrrh-still has quite a bite, though). Check out Dragon's Blood in the Ars Draconis series; Depending on what it is blended with it can be very sweet or smoky. It is my favorite resin by far, both in it's solid state and in Beth's hands! My quest for perfect, sweet, smoky, second skin scents brought be to the musk family: Snake Oil, Sed non Sataia, Smut, Haunted, etc. Honey and amber often do a similar "melding" to the skin: O is a favorite of mine, and the Brides of Dracula is on its way (!!). It is not the destination (ok, sometimes it is...) it is the journey to the perfect scent that keeps us all here! -
OMG floral. Strong, heady floral. Myrrh is not a resin I do well, but it adds a darkness that is much needed with all those flowers.

Red Currant, Black Currant & Cassis scents
lookingglass replied to gloom bear's topic in Recommendations
I love Lurid. The currant is dark and sweet and subtle, and blends with the resin and musk in the drydown. Eat Me is all currents and cake. Very rich, sweet, and strong. I had to order Mina. I think it will be a very complex blend, but with the currant and musk it will have to be wonderful! You may want to try Bewitched. It is blackberry and dark musk, which is quite similar to currants. -
All of us honey lovers have to try Brides of Dracula! I cannot WAIT!!!!
-
I love tonka and copal, and they are there, holding onto those flowers and doin' a helluva job! It makes the flowers not just virginal blossoms, but a sultry, oriental perfume.

I am not diggin' this patchouli. I don't know if it is the KIND of patchouli, if it is just how it is playing with the other notes. I LOVE the patchouli in Snake Oil, but this is like how it behaves in lots of BPAL's like Anne Bonny and Depraved: kinda woody and snarkey. I love most headshopy patchoulies so I don't know what the deal is. The carnation is nice and spicy, and the ambergris is dark and musky. I just feel...dirty. Not that I wear perfume oil to feel clean, but it just smells like...I hate to say it...a dirty hippie that is wearing perfume...GOOD perfume...but still...

Heady roses and chocolate? Spicy green chrysanthemums and darkness looming. The drydown is a heavy floral incense, like a Catholic church full of flowers after a funeral.

Old fashioned scented pressed powders, fresh Spring flowers, with a basket of sweet, fluffy spicy marshmellows. This is really crazy! I love it!
-
Pulverized overripe fruits and red wine that has been left out overnight in open glasses. Totally dry, it has an herbal edge.

DH says this smells like "expensive hotel soap". I really like it. I wish that I had it in the Spring, and plan on getting more next year. As a resin lovin' gal, I am always looking for "fresh" scents that still have that "me" feel. This fits the bill. The dragon's blood is rich and sweet, but the flowers float around me. It is the most "lilac-y" BPAL to my nose, so far. It is going to be saved for Spring.

... His scent is soft English leather, rosewood and tonka with a hint of incense, parchment and soft woods. Smells like...Polo.

When you need something comforting or cheering
lookingglass replied to oakmoss's topic in Recommendations
Creamy, sweet, musky, or spicy are always comforting to me: Antique Lace, Snake Oil, Morocco, Chimera, Bordello, O, and Dragon's Milk are coming directly to mind. -
Some BPAL scents, IME, especially with vanilla, can vary from imp to imp and with age. I cannot say if it is a Lab issue or not, because I have only gotten multiples of imps from swaps. I say if it is fresh from the Lab, and you love it, use it up. See how it ages. I personally do not buy multiple bottles because the Lab mixes them fresh, and I prefer them that way. (Except for Blood Kiss~I like that better aged; It also has vanilla. I got an imp from a swap, LOVED it, bought a bottle fresh from the Lab, and it was not the same. Months later, it is what I tried and fell in love with! Again, I blame the vanilla. Some swear it is the same for Snake Oil(see the Snake Oil thread). I like the fresh better there, though. Hunger is the same way: Fresh it is sharp and fruity, aged it is smoky vanilla, very Snake Oil-y). Good luck!

Mmmm, hmmmm! Like has been said: wet it is very dragon's bloody, a sweet, bright and fruity resin. Drying down, though, it sweetens up the orgy of musks and is, as I hoped, QUITE SMUTTY! Love, love, LOVE!

Yeah, Skuld and Sed Non are MAJOR honey on me...

O is mostly honey and vanilla on me. Delish. Eat Me is cake and dark currents, but smells like cookies to me. -
Amber Sunset is quite like the Lion.

Morrocco is spicy and light sweet musky. -
I missed this little gem when she was introduced, but I just received her in a swap. Instant love...I immediately think that this is Eat Me and Snake Oil's daughter. Sweet, dark, and sexy. Oh, yeah!
