    TKO

Cozy, sleepy, bedtime. I don't usually like lavender in my perfumes, but this, I know, is therapy. There is an inital blast of LAVENDER eo (OMG this is SO not relaxing!) but it QUICKLY (within seconds on my skin) combines with the buttery, chewy, fluffy, and somehow earthy vanilla base. I put this on my kiddo before bed and he didn't wet the bed or wake up in the night (a recent problem due to minor 4 year old stress). DH says this smells "just like a pillow feels". It is clean and fresh yet soft and snuggley, just like a pillow. I fall asleep gently and rest soundly. Brilliant...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

I want a BPAL that smells like Bath & Body Works...

Did anyone say...Hetairae? It's really my answer for everything these days.

    Nanny Ashtoreth

Yes...lots of leather and wood. Not my big faves, but they dry out with the slightest touch of slightly sweetened amber nicely. I'll save it for when I have to kick some ass...and wear it layered with Heitiarae.

    Umbra

Dirty and dry...like a hippie mummy. Blech.

    Day of the Skulls

This is not rosey on me at all, and I am one who amps rose and often makes it sour or soapy. Initially this is very sweet, almost peachy, in it's tropical flower/honey accord, complete with bits of green. I know there are flowers, but they're muted, like different kinds of floral honey. Drying down the scent becomes leathery, smokey, and slightly powdery from the sandalwood and resins. This is a floral I can easily do!

    Svadhinaopatika

I LOOOOOOOOVE Svadhinaopatika! I was kind of afraid of the woods. I didn't want them to be to splintery or "shavings"-like. I was looking forward to the oud, though but don't really get a lot(the note is usually a dark, heavy, creamy, musky wood). I don't get a lot of wood at all, really; they're lighter than even Inez (BLESSING!), and it's not as sweet, either, which is surprising-it's more ambery. The currant is so soft I hardly noticed it, but adds just a bit of "red" juice to this very, very golden, creamy scent. The honey starts out green when wet, with the woods, but this dries down to what smells like a combination of O/Inez/Heiterae with MORE smokey !HONEY! and incense. I was told by a first grader. "I like you! You smell good! Did you bring a candel?" LOL! DH breathed me in when he came home from work and said, after several long sniffs, "Mmmmmm...this is YOU...". It has light sillage but a long wearlength, as most honey scents do on me. Just divine!!!
  7. I love Snake Oil-its my go to scent-but I cannot get into the Snake Pit. I guess I'm just a purist!

    Crossroads

Like an undead Zombi! I like this blend but I have to wait till summer to see if I can really wear it well. It has fresh yellow flowers with earth and bright chartrouse colored moss. It is a forrest floor in the sun.

    On Darkness

Wet it is green and almost rosey, like the leaves all crushed up with fresh lavender and tickily poppy...big throw, fresh and wet and living. Dried out it is a different scent completely: creamy, fruity, and soft. It reminds me of Lurid and Black Lace together. Got a bottle unsniffed for DH and we both love it!

    The Little Sparrow

This is way more fresh smelling than I expected. I was thinking it would be all creamy and fluffy with the amber and a little nutty with the seeds. But quite to the contrary I find this blend springlike in it's powderyness, like a fresh French after bath boutique powder. It's clean and a bit sweet and musky. Very nice for warmer weather for dark oriental girls like me. Big bottle worthy. Right up there with Antique Lace in the fresh/creamy dept.

    Dance of Death

Glorious Lab, frimped me with some lovies I haven't tried but totally should have! Thank you! The woody patchouli dries down creamy and powdery due to the orris, musk, and myrhh. All of these notes smell somewhat bodily on their own; combined it's disturbing yet comfortable. It is a wonderful, dark, brooding, heavy scent that is just so compelling with a fresh, incensey top along with murky, wanton musk. The MYRHH! She feels quite a bit like Haunted, but darker and less "lemony"-more like violet rather than golden. It references classic fragrances like Chanilly and Shalimar, but much more modern and vampy. I love, love love, love it. I CRAVE it-I wear it from bed to work to parties. Some BPAL is situation specific due to longevity or feel, but Dance of Death (and Snake Oil) can go everywhere with me.

The High Priest Not To Be Described

Smells a lot like Sin with leather...more masculine. I got this as a frimp from the Lab-I would never have bought it for myself but it smells divine on DH. I am not a huge leather lover, but on him it smells very old world...spicy and deep and sexy.
  13. Hetairae is my newest sexy comforting love: golden honey, fiery patchouli, sweet fig and clove, and a blushing touch of ylang ylang. It is so creamy, sexy, deep honey with a bit of spice and floral. Where has she been all my life? Lasts all night but wears close to the skin. Slather, slather!!!!

    Hetairae

I love Hetairae: green yet creamy, sweet honey enhanced so delicately with infused ylang-ylang (I have so come to appreciate her) and spicy patchouli. She is Skuld's dark haired older sister. So many honey blends are "blond" or "naked" to me. The richness of the fruit, spices, and patchouli darken Hetairae up so that it "fits" me better. Another super-sexy-chic patchouli. Mmmmm-wwwwa-gawd.....

    Sugar Moon 2008

Fresh sugar and handfuls of green initally, this smells clean and forresty. Drying out it is dusty pink and sweet, lots of strawberry, but with an undeniable melencholia floral/wood blend. It smells nothing like sugar skull to me, more like Villainess' Neisthai.

Berry Scents - Blackberry, Red Berries

Add other red fruits- pomegranate, currant, cherry. They often smell like berries should on my skin: MEDEA! Mme Moriarty Eat Me Persephone Red Queen Or "forest" scents: Rosalind Nocnitsa Black Forest Yummmy...I love all those mentioned!

    Violet Ray

I cannot even belive that I love a scent with MINT! This is a lovely scent...truly...it is like sitting at an open window in Springtime, lilacs blooming in wet, fresh earth...I have just bathed in lavender water, dusted with violet powder, and have but on a crisp white nightgown. I blow bubbles lazily out the open window and watch them float into the dusky evening. Ahhhhhh....She is Ouiji's violet sister. Dried out this is very much like Guerlain's Apres L'Ondee, which is very expensive and difficult to find, in it's fluffy, sweet purpleness, but has a deeper edge. I just love it and must have a big bottle!

Nutty scents - blends with nut notes or nuts

Sed non Satia is the nuttiest nut on me! Seriously, it smells like almond/peanut butter on me through the drydown.

    Milk and Cream Notes

Of course, the LE Katrina Van Tassle is very milky if you can do a light white rose. It is pure sweet cream with just a touch of floral.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

I can't wear spicy BPAL's right out of the shower b/c I flame up with red welts. I have to save them for the evening. But this dosn't include Snake Oil. I think if there was cinnimon my skin would know: Chimera, Bengal, Shub all flare up...

    Judith and Holofernes

I love Judith and Holfernes just as much as I thought I would. It is the perfect blend of freshness and sweet for my skin. The musk, carnation and magnolia give the incense notes just enough lift without being too bright. There is a freshness that is subtle but welcomed with the rest of the rich notes that emerge in the drydown. Next, it is a bit woody, but the honey, immortel, and musk carry this scent down to a soft, warm, cloak of a scent. It is very much like Sed Non Satia without the nuttiness and more cream. This is what I have wanted so many fall LE's to smell like on me. It is like the fading light, the sun setting on my skin. I have fallen, people, and I have fallen hard... Edited to add: DH has begged me not to wear this to work... (Too..eeehmm...sexy. Honey can do that on me...). I will save it for romantic nights in.

    Mad Sweeney

    Yup. Smells like whiskey!

    Are bpal blends all-natural?

Thank you for clearing up pages of speculation. I, for one, would not care if BPAL WERE made of garbage (now THAT's artistry! ), it is the best House on the planet.

    The Raven

This is my favorite BPAL violet. I love Sybaris, but she can be a bit too sweet sometimes. Violets that are too sweet remind me of grape lolipops and I just can't smell like that. The Raven is sweetened by ylang ylang, which is not an easy note for me to play with. However, I do love it in Skuld, and the Raven is like her purple brother. The iris is a nice "dusty purple" note that complements the violet beautifully and logicly. Woods and musks are always hit and miss with me, but here they are romantic and melancholy, rather like dimmed lights.
