They ought to all be under the Announcements subforum. If you don't like Dorian, trust me, you will have no problem getting rid of it, so I guess that's the good thing about it. Zarita would certainly fit the image, but it seems awfully floral. I've never tried it, so I couldn't vouch either way. Eat Me is a nice 'dark' foody blend and Imp is bright and sweet, but musky too. I know there must be at least a few more that would be appropriate, but I just can't think of them right now. Oh, if you like roses you could try Two, Five and Seven - it's a bright fresh rose scent, but if you wanted to make it more sinister I'm sure you could layer it with something else.

This is strong on me upon initial application, like knock-your-socks-off strong, almost entirely wood and possibly patchouli (though I have a difficult time pinpointing patchouli, in general). More than that, the imagery is amazing, because as strong and cloying as it is, it's particularly sinister. I think that's fitting. When it dries, it gets milder and sweeter and much more wearable. As much as I love the wet / drydown stages for the vivid picture it paints in my mind, the drydown is what I'd rather wear for a longer period of time. The woody notes are still really prominent compared to everything else, but thankfully also much less sharp.

Sooo, I've been trying to get my parents (well, my mom--dad doesn't wear scents) into BPAL. Dad thinks everything I've worn around him smells like incense and/or candles, which he both dislikes. (I'm stumped on the 'candles' part--I have a lot and they don't all smell exactly the same, so unless he hates the smell of vanilla, chocolate, apples, spices, etc etc...) My mom has her staple bottle of Carolina Herrera (jasmine and tuberose), which is the only thing she'll wear and which my father actually approves of--he even wants to buy me a bottle to replace what I usually wear. Only problem is, I can't stand it. Any recs for something that's floral, yet isn't so heavy? Or, are there any blends that floral-lovers also liked? Argh. Hit the 'submit' button too early.

Yemaya is nice and tropical-fruity. Tamora and Aglaea are sort of subtle sweet scents.

Vampy - Exactly what I think! D: Thanks for the suggestions, y'all. I did do searches for stuff that contained those notes, but heavy florals tend to go cloying and/or sour on me--I was sort of looking for things that maybe weren't necessarily very floral, but have the same 'feel', or something non-floral that people who like florals would still enjoy... Did that make sense?

Thanks Torri - I do have an imp of Euphrosyne that I haven't tested yet. I'll bust it out and see what he thinks. Even if I wear something foody, his reaction is 'ew, incense'. Whaa? Grif - Funny thing is, I do have some male friends that think my perfume obsession is silly, but at least if I'm wearing something they like, they'll admit it. It's just my dad who can't seem to tell the difference between a strawberry and a musk. Edit: And re. The One Perfume, that's why I'm trying to get her into BPAL. She likes some of what I have, but evidently not enough to want some for herself.

I guess this goes here: Theodosius = Thierry Mugler's Angel ...to my nose, anyway. Looking at the notes, it makes no sense at all, but I've tried it on my skin several times and that's what I get.

I'll probably be one of the few without Snake Oil on my list. (Dunno, it doesn't do anything for me--might need to let imp age more. But I digress.) Dorian: It's unusual and it's refreshing, and very unisex. Kumiho: Another light(er) scent, but with a different concept. Also useful for hooking the Japanophiles. Midway/Gingerbread Poppet: They don't need to know it's an LE...okay, they'll find out soon enough, but all it takes is a couple sniffs, right? Imp: Sweet but dark, unique, and it's got serious staying power. Wilde: I guess it's masculine, but I wear it all the time. Reminds me of some commercial perfumes, so a good one to ease into, I suppose. Aglaea: Muted and smooth enough not to be immature in its sweetness, but with strength in its clarity. In my mind, this is almost a perfect fruit scent--I'd love to see how it fares with a bigger variety of fruits, though. Hmmm, most of the people I've enabled so far seem to prefer the sweet and foody scents...birds of a feather?

I just thought of this as I was driving around today, and figured this would be the best place to ask--and also didn't think it would merit a whole new topic. Has anyone had trouble traveling internationally with their oils? Is it okay to put them in a carryon? If no, what's the best way to pack them in a suitcase? (<-- See, this is the part that makes it relevant.) I can't go for two weeks smelling like nothing in particular!

Speaking of air fresheners, I have a Yankee one in French Vanilla that's nearly scentless. I refresh it with my buttery, foody oils all the time. Does anyone else...? Or am I just a bit crazy... (Sorry for the hijack! I have to say that I love the Yule labels. Especially Stardust, it looks Art Decoish to me.)

I don't really care what gender the scent I'm wearing is designated for--in fact I'm not sure if any of the scents I own are supposed to be 'masculine' ones, I haven't even checked. (Although I suppose I should...) Of the commercial perfumes/colognes I like, one of my favourites is Hugo Boss' In Motion, which is for men. I mean, there are some guys on this forum and I'm sure they don't relegate themselves to only trying the 'masculine' blends--they'd blaze through them in one or two orders and be done with it. I just wear whatever I think smells good on me.

A couple of the cinnamony scents have made me itch, though it's usually all right if I apply it to areas with less sensitive skin. Jasmine, though...one whiff of that bugger gives me a headache. (I'm pretty sure there are some blends I've tried in which it's not listed as one of the notes, but is still present.)

Disclaimer: I'm kinda tired. May resort to senseless babbling. At first sniff, it's dark, deep, and bitter--I still can't pick out notes well, but suffice to say that it didn't smell like something I'd want on me. I gave it a shot anyway. In the first half an hour or so, it remains pretty similar to the impression I get from the bottle, losing its edge and rounding out, in a way. Not great, but not terrible. After about an hour: Errr, I'm pretty sure I haven't been working out. Or running around. Or moving. Yet, there's this smell that vaguely threatens to become icky stagnant sweat. I don't know how it's managing to do it, but it's somewhere between that, and plain ol' spicy goodness. This worries me. After about an hour and five minutes: The unsubtle overtones of 'eau de sweaty manly man' seem to have faded. ...Kinda. Not sure if I'll keep this, but it certainly was interesting. I may let it age for a short while before making a final decision.

Lovely! Remains light and sweet from start to finish, though initial application is a bit cloying. As it dries, it turns into a very sexy, mature scent--not overly sweet, and absolutely lush. A surprise hit, for me, and I'll definitely be stockpiling.

I have to rave about this one because I was so surprised--I didn't expect a blend with 'musk' in the name to become one of my favorites. Again, due to my lack of experience, I can't say what's dragon's blood and what's the musk, but it starts out a bit sharp and mellows to an all-around sweet-but-not-foody, warm, resiny scent. The blend itself is a very powerful and evocative scent, but is not overpowering when worn. (Hope that made sense...) Definitely getting a big bottle of this.

I'm not experienced enough to know which note it is that's giving me an overall impression of 'bitterness', but that's basically what Blood Moon is from start to finish. Hints of the herbs and grains come through (maybe), but it remains consistently gritty and flatly bitter. It's a shame, as I enjoy wood/grain notes, but perhaps I'll keep this one for now and see if it changes with age.

Just as everyone else has said, this is a very sweet blend, definitely! It reminds me strongly of Coty's Vanilla Musk + Aquolina's Pink Sugar. It's quite strong, but in the bottle, there's really not much warning of how luscious and musky and rich the vanilla is; in fact, it's almost overpowering. As well, I detect a slightly sour edge from the florals. I like it very much, but as it stands, it's a bit too similar to the aforementioned commercial perfumes for me to think of choosing this over the other two (which I also own). Since others have pointed out that it morphs significantly with age, I'll keep my bottle for now.

Here's the 'instant gratification' version using a scanner, since my parents have semipermanently hijacked my digicam.

For something sweet, try aged Sugar Skull. On me, it's a bit like Pink Sugar with a spicy kick.

Now the proud owner of an imp and a bottle of Arkham Revisited, I've noticed that the bottle smells much sweeter and brighter than my imp, which is mellow and not as almost-fruity as the 5mL. Is it possible the bottle was aged slightly less, or exposed to different conditions? I love what's in the imp; the bottle's scent is lovely, but I don't adore it nearly as much.

Depending on how heavy/light the scent is, I'll either just tip the bottle over, cap on, and use what's on the nub (inside the cap) and on the lip of the bottle...or, I'll stick my finger over the opening and tip it over, then right it and shake lightly to dislodge excess.

The only male that pays attention to what scent I'm wearing is one of the guys at my workplace. :B Whenever I wear anything foody/boozy, he's guaranteed to sidle up and comment on how nice I smell--so far Grog, Midway, Elegba, Absinthe, and Sugar Skull have garnered the most positive responses. I actually wasn't very fond of Absinthe, but he loved it--so I gave it to him, and now I occasionally walk in the store to the smell of minty licorice.
