If you're a more commercial perfumista as well, brace yourself: on me, this smells more than a bit like Iris Gris, one of the all-time great classic fragrances. Granted, there's an unpleasantly sharp top note that has to burn off first; it almost made it a scrubber, but it (thankfully) vanished completely before too long. Also, this is less animalic than the vintage Iris Gris I've been lucky enough to smell (and the fabulous Dawn Spencer Hurwitz recreation of the scent, Scent of Hope, which is dynamite but much pricier). But otherwise, the drydown of this is a rich, rounded thing that is succulently grand and gorgeous. It doesn't make sense to me based on the notes, and maybe something has to do with my skin or some other factor, but my imp was the best modern riff on Fath's masterpiece that you could EVER find in this price range.

I got a squirt with a recent order, and I want more!!! I noticed the food and wood, but I also got the scent of a fireplace. Really gorgeous!

This goes through some weird stages on me, but it dries down to a warm rose with a touch of powder. (It reminds me just a bit of Lady Luck Blues, but I don't have LLB in front of me to compare.) I might consider getting a bottle of this, as the vanilla makes it very wearable. The jasmine is a no-show, thankfully.

This is definitely Bordello's more sophisticated sister. I love the rich fruits going on here, but I'm not sure that I can take the chocolate. For anyone who has more tolerance for chocolate scents, though, this is a sex bomb.

There's really gorgeous clovey goodness at the base of this...but it's blocked by a hairspray-laden jasmine bomb on top. Hilma hates me.

DDLM 09: Almost a marigold single-note on me. None of the deeper notes are present at all. There is a slight bit of honeyed sweetness, however. If you hadn't told me that this was DDLM, I might like it...as is, I keep comparing this to DDLM 04, and it falls far short.

Lush to BPAL scent comparisons (BNever included too)
hepkitten replied to Vanilla's topic in Recommendations
I fell in love with the smell of Spice Curls soap recently, although I don't like using it that much. Any BPAL smell-alikes? -
I get the fruit here a lot more strongly than I get the rose. It's an ebullient fragrance on me, rather than a delirious one.
-
The honey and floral notes are lovely, but the Lab's milk note goes sour on me here. Darn!
-
There's a really interesting sweet/spicy thing going on here. The scent is a lot softer than I thought it would be; I'll have to spend more time with this one.
-
On me, this is fruit punch made with honey, perhaps with a splash of pee. Yay skin chemistry.

While the lavender is a dominant note, the tobacco and vanilla are both so close to it in intensity on me that the three blurred together...so much so that I didn't recognize the lavender at first, and I use lavender EO constantly. There's a real edge to this one, but it's got serious depth as well. It's lovely and unique, but I don't think I need it. If you want a darker lavender scent that still has a tinge of lavender's soporific quality, this may be what you're looking for.

Light and ozonically herbal on me at first, but it starts to go to the "warrior BO" place on me fairly quickly. I may need to wash this off.
-
Very soft and pretty without being twee. If this scent were a color, it would be a pale lavender. I get a lot of the iris and the violet here.
-
I'm not sure why this one is such epic fail on me, and I'm extremely bitter about it after reading the descriptions. Anactoria is a sweet, high-pitched scent on me that becomes hairspray all too quickly. Granted, it's the world's best-smelling hairspray, but it's hairspray. I'm guessing it's a collision between the amber and the musk.

Sexy, sneaky, seductive...this scent is a slow, creeping mist of sex that turns into an enveloping cloud around the wearer. (Um, did I mention that I like it?) Most of the Lab's scents with wine notes go to a horrible Kool-Aid place on me, but this one is beautifully anchored by the other notes in the blend. I'll need a bottle for sure.

INCREDIBLY realistic peach, perfectly ripe, with juice running down your wrist. There are some other notes in the background that come out as it dries, leading it to a peach champagne in the woods kind of feel. Absolutely lovely, but I'm not sure if I can pull this one off.

This is sweet and balanced perfectly between fruity and floral. I like this a LOT more than I thought I would, and I'm really shocked to find it not getting more love.
-
Lovely in the imp, but goes to something sweaty and almost rancid on me. Hmmph. Khrysee, you tease.
-
I get a very strong, very herbal lavender, with only the faintest undertone of citrus. The citrus does seem to be coming out more as it dries, but lavender is still center stage.
-
Creamy, honeyed rose with other notes faintly in the background. This isn't my usual sort of thing, but it's quite lovely.

If you like spicy scents, this is the OMGBBQSQUEE. (And on my relatively sensitive skin, at least, it doesn't burn. Huzzah!) Lots of clove and black pepper, with the tea and a tiny whiff of carnation behind it, as well as some phantom ginger. It's FABULOUS.

This is like "Scherezade Goes to France," and I mean that in the best possible way: the same red musk base, but with sweet (but not cloying) fruits and flowers over the top. I completely agree with Heartbeast's review at the top of the thread...and I'm a bit envious of her for this one. What an absolutely lovely scent to have played a role in. The staying power is really impressive on this scent; I'm still smelling it as a soft, sweet musk the next morning, and it's luscious! This is my surprise win of the Grindhouse, and I'll definitely get a bottle or two.
-
Wow, different people are smelling *extremely* different things here...even more so than usual! I'm definitely in the citrus camp, particularly at first; after that, the lilac comes up as a strong secondary note. It's sweet, feminine, and very lovely.

Honeyed fruit, with a slight sharpness and cocoa undertone. The sharpness to it almost tricks my nose into believing that the fruit is apple, not peach, at moments. I'm not sure how well cocoa and I get along, but this is a place where it could work for me.
