Light, sweet scents don't often do it for me...but Fairy Market is fabulous. It is incredibly atmospheric, and represents the concept beautifully. There are ever-changing swirls of unknown florals, fruits, herbs moving through every sniff. It's almost (dare I say it?) magical.

Grr is absolutely wonderful. I get a lot of sinus headaches, and I've started to use this for them regularly of late; I'm recovering SO much faster. I typically apply it to my pulse points and temples; tonight I also tried putting some in a diffuser. AMAZING. My headache's almost gone, and the mild period-related nausea I was feeling has also been cured. This oil is worth every single penny.

This reminds me of my beloved Bayou, but it has a full sharpness to it that's almost sour. I'm glad I tried it, but it's nowhere near as good as Bayou is on me; since it's similar on, I don't need to own both.

I love Misk U, and wear it often. I've known that there was a dry, dusty book note in it, and I've been reasonably sure that I've smelled it in the background. When I put on The Lurid Library, though, my immediate reaction was, "Oh, THAT'S what that note smells like!" However, this isn't just SN Old Book (though I'd love to get a bottle with that on the label); there's a lovely incense smell that intertwines with the dusty paperiness. This scent is very subtle on me, but it lasts pretty well...and it's WONDERFUL.

Tonka, with an underlying fruitiness and a hint of floral. As it dries on me, though, the tonka drops into the background and what I think is the lilac musk is arguing with it. Hmm...still undecided on this one. Also, I might have to try it on my bf and see what it does on him.

This is reminding me both of Abhisarika and Osun. (Thing is, Abhisarika's one of the scents that I associate with someone else...hmm, not sure if that means I can wear this or not.) I usually amp tonka like crazy, but in this, I'm getting mostly the rose and honey. I need to wear this a few times to see if Lady Luck Blues is for me.

When I first put this on, it's almost all fruitiness, with a bit of aquatic in the background...kind of like eating a slice of melon at the seashore. On the drydown, the fruit almost fades, and I get a lighter, sweeter Thalassa. Not me at all, but lovely.

The Lab's almond note usually HATES me...but this is gorgeous on. Spiced, resiny almond. Also, I agree with many previous reviewers that said it had a warm, clean, lifelike fur or hair feel to it. Kether is not exactly the smell of my kitten's fur, but it's *really* close.

This one seems to remind everyone of another specific BPAL. On me, it's O, but a spicier, carnationy version. Droooooool. I adore O, but I don't wear it except in specific settings, as it's very much the smell of sex on me. Hod has the same notes, but doesn't give quite the same impression, as the spice and carnation rein the sexy honey/amber in. I may need a bottle of this.

Mutable Air: the essence of thought. Lavender, benzoin, orchid, and frankincense. I'll have to agree with the "spiced lavender" thing that many are saying. What I can't figure out though, is the second really strong note that I get, particularly at first. I could swear that it's anise...? Nice, but lavender is so dominant in this that I'm not sure I need this in addition to the rest of my collection.

Lovely in the bottle...but on me, it's pretty much all rose, with a hint of soapiness behind it. Oh, well....
-
A dreamy, watery floral...that insists on beating me over the head with a cucumber. Hmmmph. It's lovely, but in both overall scent and staying power, the original has this one beat. (Why, oh why, did I give up my bottle? :headpalm:)

I'm so glad that I read the other reviews here...because I really thought I was losing my mind. I love this scent, don't get me wrong, but there is a definite peach note in this blend that I couldn't account for, and I'm glad that others have noticed it too. It's light, sweet, but not cloying. I would typically think that a fruity floral couldn't be for me, but this one definitely is. A real keeper!

The comparisons to Smut almost scared me off, but I'm soooo glad they didn't. This is gorgeous. I don't get anything like Smut here; if I had to compare it to other BPALs, I'd say that this is Scherezade with a *touch* more sharpness and sweetness. I barely get the caramel or honey here; what I do get is red musk and spice. I did also get the same result as others upthread that my skin just seems to drink this in...but I don't mind slathering if the results are this yummy.

Lots of sweet, bright fruit. Unfortunately, too much of it for my skin...it smelled as though I was being *pelted* with the divine apples.
-
Sniff-gasm. Although I agree with some of the up-thread "hippie store" comments, it's only in the best possible way. There's swirling incense, dark floral, spice...it's the scent I was looking for in the Heroines and never found. YUM.

A cream-covered daffodil is trying to beat me to death. GAH! I so hoped this one would work on me, but definitely not. Grrr.
-
Sharp, woodsy, fiery...lovely and interesting, but definitely not for me.
-
Lily grounded with sandalwood...lovely. I definitely agree with those who call this feathery; it's gorgeous, if you like ethereal florals.
-
Lovely...but for me, the lavender overwhelms the rest of the notes just a little.

My reaction when opening and trying this blend... "Wow, this smells lovely. Lavender and rose, and a bit of something else. Mmm...(putting on oil). I'm not sure how well it works, though, since I still feel pretty awake. La la la...(THUD)." Fell asleep like a rock, no dreams, stayed asleep until morning. Brilliant!
-
Vetiver is my enemy, but I really don't get it in this scent at all...yay! This is citrus with dry herbs on me; if I didn't know better, I'd think I smelled white sage. It fades very quickly on my skin, but I might try using it as a room scent, as it's just lovely, crisp, and clean.
-
Really overwhelming almond with myrrh and honey. I've had problems with the Lab's almond note before, but I was hoping that it would be buried enough in other things here that it might work...not so much, I'm afraid.

When you need something comforting or cheering
hepkitten replied to oakmoss's topic in Recommendations
First, big huge hugs of condolence. I'm so, so sorry. It depends on what scents make you feel comforted, but some that spring to my mind as options are Panacea: Succor (for obvious reasons), Gennivre (tea and honey), and Water of Notre Dame (calming and soothing. Take good care of yourself through this, okay? -
The above review is tough to follow, but I had to chime in on the mad love for this scent. On me this is sugar cookies with lime, but there's a brief whiff of something else lurking right underneath. Before wearing it, I wouldn't have said that a scent could be simultaneously intriguing and comforting...but I'm now, more than ever, convinced that Beth can do *anything*.
