The absolute darkest scents? dark, ghostly, haunting, scary,
StevenBoatman replied to Cinder's topic in Recommendations
Holy crap, Bluebeard is terrifying! I know that, on me, it smells like an ice cold knife, with moonlight reflecting off it, laying in a puddle of drying blood. O.o It gave me nightmares-literally! Another one which is dark (to me, at least) is The High Priest Not To Be Described, from the Picnic in Arkham line (currently discontinued, sadly. ). On me, it was a hot, cinnamon-like incense. But it wasn't nice and holy like Cathedral, ooooooh no. This was the scent of the temple-palace at the heart of Hell, where souls of the damned are offered in tribute to Satan. The fact that it burned a bit helped the overall creepy/dark/evil effect, too. -
Tea? Where? Hm, Hatter and Hare must have drank it all! And the poor little Dormouse is left with only roses and apples. In the bottle: Flowers! A big, bursting, multicolored bouquet of flowers! On, wet: The other flowers fade, leaving behind a rainbow of roses, interspersed with fresh Granny Smith apple slices! On, dry: Slightly laundry-ish, Dormouse stays mostly the same on drydown.

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)
StevenBoatman replied to zillah37's topic in Carnaval Diabolique
Mmmmm! I LIKE this one! It doesn't morph that much on me from the bottle so here's just one, whole review: This starts off as a red, deep, juicy smell, with a layer of fruit beneath it, and a layer of barely existent green smoke over the top. As it dries, the only change is a measure of vanilla that gets mixed into the juice. Mme. Moriarty, you are welcome to come tell my misfortune any time! -
Winter smells and scents, including the perfect winter forest

I'd suggest a Yule called The First Soft Snow! -
On me, Serpent's Kiss is sweet, dark, and green-for about a minute and a half. And then it becomes pure black pepper. Blech. Off to the "give away" pile!

Hmm, this is different! It's not pine-y per say, but very fresh and green (in fact, almost blue, really). It's sweet and sticky and sadly soapy. Not sure this one will stick around much longer.

Invasion of the Flesh-Eating Reindeer from Uranus
StevenBoatman replied to RaeiNarcissus's topic in Retail Exclusive Oils
Mmmm! I LIKE this one! Bottle: Gingerbread, warm and soft and lightly buttered! On, wet: Gingerbread, rum-spiked eggnog, cake, and a hint of musk! Lovely! On, dry: Gingerbread, rum, and musk! Final Grade: 5 of 5 -
Oh gawd. This is orgasmic. I got it as the freebie from the Dark Delicacies sale. I love it! It's almost identical to Cathedral, but a bit darker. If Cathedral is the scent of a place where Good is worshiped, then P&P is the scent of a place where worshipers revel in an evil, wicked God.

Oh dear. The poor bread-and-butterfly fell INTO the cup of tea, and then while it was splashing around trying not to drown, that mean old March Hare dumped a whole bag of sugar on top of it! Poor thing! Seriously though, from this I get a wet bread smell with a lot (LOT) of sugar. It's not bad, just....odd. It dries down into a nice creamy, musky scent though, so I'm happy. Edited to fix a typo.

I don't think this review is going to be helpful at all, but here goes: Bottle: I get grapes! Plump, juicy, deeply purple grapes! Yummy! On, wet: The grape smell is still there, but it's joined by a deeper wine scent, as well as something green. It's actually really nice, especially for something that sounds so apocalyptic. On, dry: Still a wine scent, but without a lot of the grape smell I got in the bottle. The green is there, but faded. And something else has drifted up-a little sweet, but with a hint of sourness and bitterness, a little bit of powder, and some smoky incense. It's hard to describe, but it's awesome-this is going in my "wear often" stash!

Oh wow, I'm so glad these are made for layering! I'm wearing Chaotic Good Half-Elf Paladin, and there's a MAJOR improvement in how Half-Elf and Paladin smell. Which is awesome, because individually, those two were horrible. With this blend, I'm getting a spicy, sweet floral with hints of chemical-leather and a bit of cigarette smoke, like you might get in a big city. Awesome!
-
Errr, cigarette butts. I'm getting cigarette butts and ash from this one. I don't normally play as a half-elf (I'm usually a human), but I had hopes for this one! Oh well...
-
Interesting. On me, Chaotic smells like some sort of spicy, floral, sweet drink. I like it! It goes really well with Good, IMHO.
-
Fruity! In the bottle and on me, Good smells like sweet summer fruits! YUM!
-
This is still relatively fresh out of the box, so my opinions may change later. Imp: Chemicals. No leather. No metal. No incense. Just sharp, bite-y chemicals. On, wet: Slight hint of leather, like those leather jackets you can buy that still smell like chemicals. On, Dry: Where'd it go? I can't smell it anymore!

What BPAL would this fictional character wear?
StevenBoatman replied to Flowermouth's topic in Recommendations
Idris/Sexy: The raw, golden power of Time Herself, tempered with a kind, motherly heart, torn from Her rightful home and wrapped in a frail human shell. Shining, holy incense with a trace of burning cinnamon, tamed by warm motherly honey and vanilla, with a fragrant hint of delphinium and blue roses. ETA: Now, that's how I imagine she would smell, so what BPAL(s) could be mix and matched to make that? -
Recs for Role-Playing Games (RPG), LARP and Cosplay

Hmmm. Here's what popped into my head when I read your post. All of these can be "healer" scents to me, but of course YMMV: Sea of Glass: Upon the Sea of Glass, glowing with the perfection of spiritual union and the radiance of true wisdom, rests the throne of God. A scent of inimitable purity, crystalline grace, and limitless light. I get a slightly feminine, very calm aquatic from this. It's clear crystal water, with some sort of smooth floral, perhaps lily of the valley. While it is, as I said, slightly feminine, I think most guys could pull it off too. Veil: A quiet scent, soft, calm and enigmatic. A perfume of mystery, of whispers, and of secrets behind secrets. White sandalwood, lilac, gardenia, violet, orris, lavender and ylang ylang. Zephyr: A gentle white scent, breezes laced with the scent of springtime blooms and citrus. Lemon, lemon verbena, neroli, white musk, white florals, white sandalwood, China musk, bergamot and a drop of vanilla. For a mage scent (without the healer aspect) there's: Magus: An ancient blend, swollen with arcane power: galangal, high john essence, frankincense, cedar, and sandalwood. And of course, as with all BPALs, these might not work for you the same as they do for me, so be cautious when deciding. -
Mmmmm, peppermint! Lick It, Vigorously stays the same all the way through-the smell of one of those soft peppermint candy canes! It even cools the skin a bit! Lovely! (It's especially nice when you are also wearing The First Soft Snow-it's like munching a candy cane while going for a romp through snowy woods in December! )

In the imp: Bubblegum with sugar-powder! And some vague, unidentifiable fruits in the background! Yum! On, wet: The same as in the imp. On, dry: Does saying it smells like baked bubblegum make sense? It's that same powdered sugar covered bubblegum scent, but with a depth and warmth that makes me think of something baked. All in all, this one just makes me smile, every time I catch a whiff! I don't think I'd wear it everyday, but it'll be a great pick-me-up scent!
-
Oh dear. And this one sounded so lovely too. I think the lemongrass is acting up, because I'm getting this cloying scent that smells faintly of lemon, but there's something there that makes me gag. So, so, so sad.
-
In the bottle: Mmm, lemon-covered chocolate pie! With just a hint of something dark green and juicy underneath! On, wet: YUM! Lemonheads candy! On, drying: Hmm, still wonderful, but less foody, there's still lemon, but underneath is a hint of something...musky? On, dry: Little lemon, but something green and musky is slithering out to come play. No mint through any stages, but that's okay, Knockout Drops is awesomely awesome without it!
-
Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! This odd little frimp just snuck its way onto my top 10 BPALs list! In the bottle: Undefinable madness. But not the murdering, skull-bashing kind. This is the gentle madness of the favored uncle or grandfather who's not quite all there, but you love him anyway because he tells the best stories. On: *sniff* Is that...a York peppermint pattie? Why yes, I do believe it is! How delicious! Dry-down: Yummy, slightly warm York patties surrounded by white snow and pale purple petals. That's what this smells like. Dry: No change from dry-down stage. Throw: Sticks fairly close unless I make a sudden movement. Overall: A+++++!
-
In imp: Sweet apple blended with dragon's blood. On: Apple! Bright red, this is like the apple Snow White bit into. The other notes are non-existant. Dry-down: Erm, uh, where'd the apple go? I can't smell any of the original notes now. All I'm getting is cigarette smoke. WTF? It smells lovely in the imp, and I'll give it a try as a room scent, but overall this is not one I'll be buying to wear.

Oddly, Bones Trombone is very lemon-y on me once it starts drying, so it's worth looking into. YMMV though. :/

Bravery, Courage, Confidence, Intimidation, Power

I second the Bow and Crown of Conquest! Also, I'd suggest Darkness: Bottled gloom; the essence of oblivion. Blackest opium and narcissus deepened by myrrh.
