    Trick #2

There's a definite wood in this. And a spicy (almost cinnamon-y fall-like) overtone. Another "not bad scent". Where Trick #1 is sweeter and more floral... this is spicy and green woods. They're almost complete opposites. Very intriguing when sniffed side by side.

    Trick #1

Hrm... this doesn't actually give tons o' patchouli like patch-blends normally do. Instead I get a heady musk note (slightly masculine) and a darker floral (I guess the magnolia). No real vanilla though and thank GOD there's no honey (BPAL's honey's go absolutely rancid on me). Not a bad scent. It doesn't really epitomize fall or the holiday for me or anything but it's okay I suppose.

I've gotten emails both from the grzzt address previously posted as well as the answers@ one.

    Leather

I LOVE the saddle leather in Quincey Morris. All the other BPAL I've tried with leather (save Whip) has smelled horrible on me. Must find more with this leather note...

    Bitter smelling blends

I really like Antony wearing for myself. Count Dracula was too much for me though, even if I liked the bitter masculine scents (of which it definitely is). And Nero was the same... for me at least. I rather like wearing masculing blends too but the same ones I like to smell on my man (the sexy sweet florals and teas) rather than the insanely musky masculine ones.

    Lucy Westenra

Mmm... blood orange and moroccan rose. Citrussy sweet rose-laden goodness. I'm not getting much of the other notes, but that's okay... blood orange juicyness and ripe rose is just fine by me! Not bad at all!! I'm so happy the frankincese isn't ruining this for me like it so normally does too. Definitely must have a bottle.

    Dr. John Seward

Penetrating and gifted, vulnerable, with just a hint of opium-blurred delirium: poppy smoke, champaca flower, tonka, sandalwood, ginger, white pepper. Ooh poppy smoke!! heavy on that! It almost makes my eyes water like I'm trying to see through a smoke-filled opium den. The white pepper makes a play in this as well along with the ginger. Not really notes I enjoy readily. Good scent, just really not for me.

    R.M. Renfield

Patchouli and something sweet. A hint of a herbally brown/green scent wafts in the background as well, but I'd be damned to know what it is. Very faint on me.

    Wilhelmina Murray

Very very faint on me... and I'm a slatherer to boot. I can certainly catch a faint hint of tea rose and a sugary fruity-type of sweetness but nothing beyond that. This is almost just plain water on me, I can't smell a thing.

    Quincey Morris

Mmmm... this one is surprisngly good on me too!! The saddle leather note is the leather note I've been hoping BPAL would get... it's so deliciously leather boot smelling... < swoons > The vanilla and white pear add a lovely sweetness to this without making it lose any masculinity. Just wonderful!! I shall definitely have to buy a bottle or 2 of this one!! If only for the wonderfully heady leather scent.

    Johnathan Harker

Hrm... this one is good with the lavender and verbena blend... but the white sandalwood just ain't cuttin' it for me. It adds this bitter wood note to the other sweet mix and kinda ruins it for me. I'll have my husband try it out to see if the sandalwood amps up on him too or not, because the rest of the scent is wonderful. ETA - Oooh yummy!! On my husband he manages to make this smell like sexy Froot Loops!!! And no.... I have no idea how Froot Loops are sexy in any way, shape or form, but he manages it. Definitely getting a bottle of this one!!

    Count Dracula

Strange musky scent. Almost sour and more than a little bitter. I can catch the cinnamon in this with a lot of black musk and heavy clove. Not as seductive as I thought Count Dracula ought to be though. Then again, I'm just not drawn to the musky masculine colognes out there these days.

    The Castle

Hrm... more dragon's blood I think, but this time, unlike the Bloody Sword, I'm actually getting the sweetness from it. Interesting scent but not interesting enough to warrant a bottle I think....

    The Carpathian Mountains

On first whiff there's something minty in here.... I have no clue what that is but it smells a lot like that spearmint chewing tobacco. Hrm... it started out really strong and with the tobacco associationg really making me want to throw up, but after the drydown it's kinda growing on me. A bit of woods come peeking out (which, on me, it's really odd to have woods "peek"... normally they come running at me and beat me with a branch) Very intriguing scent I think... I shall have to try again to see if it's bottle-worthy but it's very nice

    Carfax Abbey

Oooh yeah, woods and crushed herbs. Very strong incense on me as well... very so not much me.
  16. PilotKitten

    The Brides of Dracula

Mmm... this one is actually sweeter than I thought it would be. Still floral but with a sugary background that's really good. And the honey doesn't go rancid on me like BPAL's so often do. So that makes me happy. Nice blend of spices too... Hrm... these dragon scents are just so intriguing and complex.
  17. PilotKitten

    The Bloody Sword

Very masculine-type scent on me. I can definitely catch the woodsy herbal of the myrrh and the black pepper. The dragon's blood is really tempered in this one... it's adding a faint hint of the spicyness but none of the sweetness I usually get from it. The leather in this is like the leather in Whip too... very nice. I shall definitely have to try this one out on my husband. ETA - On him this goes *very* pepper-y. After the drydown later though it's a really nice masculine blend... just wish there wasn't so much pepper.

    Silentium Amoris

Mmm... rose. These smell a lot like the roses in Whip... just not as "wet" if that makes any sense. Not at all overpowering... just a gentle wafting about. Wonderful scent. I'm so happy this has recently come back just as I was able to snag an imp in a swap. I'll definitely have to buy at least two bottles.

    Samhainophobia

Vetiver and patchouli! Lol... my skin has amped that up beyond belief. I'm still managing to get a mossy green background to this though. Not bad for a "woodsy" patchouli scent. Not a bottle buy for me... but still, not bad at all.

    Pumpkin Queen

Hrm... no sour rancid gourd like Jack or the Pumpkin Patch.... I'm actually getting a nice golden orange citrus with a sweet sugary fig. The cardamom and punpkin are extremely reminiscent of a warm and spicy pumpkin pie. Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised by the Queen here. Not enough to forgive her for being a royal bitch... lol.... but *maybe* enough to snatch up a bottle before they go.
  21. My husband says, "trade him in." But anyhow... hrm. BPAL's citrus so often turns to Pledge or PineSol or similar cleaning fluids on me but I'll try my best.... The Haunted Palace - I know you have some of this because you gave me the imp I have. It's the most wonderful orange on me, very ripe and juicy. Then it morphs through rose (beautifully) and vanilla, etc. One of my top favorites. R'yleh - Evil twisted grapefruit. Hate it. Sea of Glass - Oceany acquatic with splashes of citrus... another fav or mine. Whitechapel - Lemon PineSol.... >_< The drydown isn't so bad though... more florals come out... ends up being pretty average on me. Muse - Very lime margarita on me. But there's jasmine and I know how much you hate that..... Aizen-Myoo - Very musky sour citrus. Very strong... like grapefruit but tart-er. Venice - Wonderful juicy lemons. But more jasmine as well.... this is another favorite of mine. Versailles - Wonderful sweet and juicy citrus. With roses mostly but the jasmine is there too..... Darn... why do all the great citrus blends have jasmine? Namaste - Mmm... this one starts out and stays a lemongrassy herbal on me. I was very astonished to not see the woods to amp up. A lot like LUSH's Avobath. Embalming Fluid - Oooh... another lemony goodness blend. I still need to put this on my to-buy list soon.... Desire - Heavy neroli and patchouli on me at first, but blooms into a citrussy bergamot. Elixir III: Lustration - Lemon-cleaning fluid on me. Elixir V: Moxie - Grapefruit.... or at least the tangy sour rind scent that reminds me of grapefruit. Elixir VI: Detox - Lemon Pledge... but with sugar. It actually ends up being kind okay on me. Shanghai - Crisp tea and lemon verbena... pretty good but the honeysuckle makes it kinda sour on me strangely enough. Carnavale Diabolique - Yummy sugared lemon with a touch of creamy vanilla coconut milk... and I hates the coconut but this one is good. Has opium in it tho... so dunno about that one for you. Gennivre, L'Artiste du Diable - Tea leaf and lemongrass, a hint of mint and finally orange blossom. Dries down to a heavier mint with orange blossom background. Succubus - Citrus and clove... reminds me of Christmas-time pomanders. Manhattan - WONDERFUL hot lemon tea scent. I *musts* get me a bottle of this soon!!! Mag Mell - Fresh lemongrass and herbally meadow scent. Sage is a little strong but it goes away. The Hamptons - Not overtly citrussy but it's still there. Nice berry scent too. Forbidden Fruit - Really remiscent of Versailles for me but tamer somehow. Turns to soap on the drydown for me though. Envy - A minty lime... like a perfect cool summer drink. Cheshire Cat - Very juicy sweet grapefruit but with this wicked twisted core... actually fairly good on me. Phobos - Nice lemon verbena/lemongrass combo... faint hint of herbal musk to the background too... pretty nice one. ----- Well, I suppose that's it for the BPAL... wow, I've tried a lot of citrus-blends. Not horribly in love with most of them though. I'd also recommend some other etailers as well. Heaven and Earth - Dream (orange coconut... very good), Fairy Muse (orange tea rose), Petal (which I already know you dislike), The White Feather (sweet grapefruit... pretty good), Passion (raspberry lemon is wonderful... but it has ylang-ylang and rosewood in it, 2 no-nos for you), Pink (sicilian orange and red fruits, cotton candy, etc), and Tears Won't Fall (lemon and white rose). Wylde Ivy - Fairy Wings (strawberries and oranges... and the strawberry doesn't turn plasticky on me like they usually do... a very "smoothie" scent), Baby Cakes (grapefruity citrus), Sweet Serendipity (delicious fruity with citrussy sweetness), Frivolous (lemons!!), Sweet Side (fruity with lemon... very "adult" type perfume), Lime Margarita (very sharp and piercing lime on me), Tangerine Loves Peach (whole lotta tangerine in this one), and Celestial Sun (orange slices with a creamy patchouli... ). I still say trade him in.

    Bitter smelling blends

Heh... for some reason I *totally* understand the "angry sage" description. Bewitched is very heavy sage and berry on me... settles down into a musky berry almost masculine scent though so not sure it's quite what you're looking for. Tenochtitlan... more sagey overtones. Definitely fits the description of bitter as well. Mag Mell is very heavy sage and lemon verbena... settles into a fresher "meadow"-type scent on me though, so again, not quite sure if it's "angry" enough. The Scales of Deprivation ... this one has angry sage, angry sandalwood, angry vetiver, angry frankincense! The list goes on and on. I'll also second the call for Antony. As for bitter... Midnight was extremely bitter on me and I don't even know which note caused it. Mata Hari... bitter coffee scent. Very acrid coffee bean on me. Nero... do you like angry rosemary as well?? Cause this may full out be your winner if you do. Very bitter angry rosemary. Asphodel... a creepy floral nightmare... like not nightmare as in it's badly-scented... it's just a twisted devious and slightly bitter floral. Baku is your bet for bitter herbal. Kick you in the head lavender right here!

On IP Property and Mod Censureship

Erm what? There is no "business with PilotKitten & BOMH". I really like you Macha and I think your response was well-thought out and articulated. But neither I, nor I think BOMH, appreciates being called out or insinuating that we're troublemakers. This is an H&E v. BPAL/bpal.org issue. Period. Not a "PK & BOMH" issue. Just because we're the only ones with the courage to speak out against obvious overwhelming opposition doesn't mean we're the only ones that feel this way. And for the record (not addressed towards you specifically but I've seen NUMEROUS people bring this up and make the statement)... NOT ONE person has ever questioned the actual banning of Michele. She broke the rules, you banned her, fine. The *ONLY* thing any of us have commented on and opposed was all the speculation and mud-slinging surrounding the why. Sure the mods have said the why doesn't matter, but when people bring it up (and the mods actively encourage their dissention), it deserved to be addressed.

My problem(s) with Heaven & Earth Essentials

The WHY thread was written AFTER the blog post. And okay fine, I used the word announcement... I also used the word appreciate. It wasn't some "God has spoken" post like you made it out to be. But anyhow... like I said, leaving now. Agree to disagree with you. Thank you for the discussion f_s. I appreciate you not cursing at me.

My problem(s) with Heaven & Earth Essentials

Sorry, I hadn't brought up the freebie thing before. So it's not a repeat. But I will go since you requested it. And no I don't "own" the H&E thread, it wasn't an announcement, it was a request. No one has to follow it as pointed out by the mods already.
