    The Candy Butcher 2006

Mmm... chocolatey. A rich dark chocolate. There's also a soft sugared cream scent wafting up from the depths... mmm... just delicious. Not at all bitter or dry like I was afraid it would be. Creamy hot chocolate on a cold winter's day. Wonderful chocolate scent.

    Midnight on the Midway (2006)

Mmm... *very* sweet floral. After the initial drydown though, it turns to soap on me. Cheap hotel room soap. After more of a drydown, a little bit more floral comes peeking out, but soap is still predominant. < cries > And I was so hoping to love this one too....

    Carnaval Diabolique

Yummy lemon! It's a wonderful sugary lemon with a touch of creamy vanilla coconut milk. And I normally hate coconut, but this is so creamy and foody goodness, I can't help it. I practically want to drink the bottle! After the drydown I get a definite opium smoke note but it's not too heavy like I was afraid it would be. Just a sweet smokiness, actually *slightly* reminscent of Cagliostro. Will definitely have to buy up another bottle of this one!

    Et Lux Fuit

In the bottle this is just pure sunshine. Very bright and cheery. Full of warmth and happiness. A definite pick-me-up type of scent. I can definitely pick out heavier citrus overtones over a smooth creamy floral bouquet. A great frottle in my order to end my 3 month long wait for my largest order ever (and then some).

    Treat #2

On me this is a very strong buttercream scent with a shady dusting of coconut powder. I'm not getting any orange chocolate at all. This settles into a spicy sour "something" that I just can't describe. Not at all good on me.
  6. If you liked BPTP's Fee, you might like Wylde Ivy's Pink Chiffon. On me Fee stayed really heavy on the honeydews and with Pink Chiffon, the predominant note is that same honeydew, but it backs off just a touch to let some faint tropical floral and a hint of woman's perfume through.

    Kindly Moon

Mmmm... yummy. In the bottle this smells absolutely fresh and clean and delicious! The peach blossom in this is absolutely astounding! The stargazer (one of my favorite flowers) is dead on, but not overwhelmingly heady or too strong... just the perfect proportions. I'm so beyond happy I decided to get the 2nd bottle of this. I know I shall be wearing it often.

    Pulcinella & Teresina

The puppets hate me. >_< I was *so* intrigued by the descriptions of the loveliest rose but all I get is horrible wood. < sigh > Off to be swapped/sold to someone more loving....

    Antonino, The Carny Talker

Mmmm... deliciously yummy. I wasn't expecting to like either this or Theodosius, but now they're definite favorites!! I can catch the lemony goodness that I associate with verbena.. along with a lovely white musk and a deliciously fruity plum. Perhaps another bottle of this before the Carnavale goes out of town. < nods >

    Ace of Pentacles

Dirt and pine needles. Erm... definitely not what I want to be smelling like, but if that's your wish then hey, go for it, this scent is for you!

    Peace

I'm not sure what's in this one since it's unreleased with no description, but it smells horrible on me. It's a woodsy earthy blend, which 9 times out of erm... 9, goes horribly wrong on me. Definite herb in there somewhere but no lavender as previously mentioned by reviewers... it doesn't have that spicy sort of kick to it that I associate with lavender..

    Rose Cross

Hmm... knowing my chemistry's history with frankincense I wasn't really expecting to like this one at all, but it's been on my wishlist since I first got into BPAL so I still had to try it eventually. I'm rather glad I did! This isn't an absolute best rose scent that BPAL does, but it's definitely up there with the other great rose blends. I'll definitely be getting myself a bottle of this one. It's mostly a very rich, velvety red rose on me, with just the barest hint of herby frankincense. It smells just like the rose note used in Whip but not as heady or strong. Very good rose blend.

    Tenochtitlan

Ugh... not sure what it is in this one that I don't like... possibly the sage, but this is just horrible on me. I can't even explain what it is about it that I don't like really. It smells plain... and what doesn't smell plain, smells slightly rancid. Teaches me to try out a scent I can't even pronounce, lol.

    Florence

Suprisingly spicy. It's a semi-sweet spiciness... not overwhelming but not as berry/amber-riffic as I had hoped.

    Shanghai

Just like the description says, it's a nice crisp, clean scent. The honeysuckle adds a slightly sour note to it for me, but the green tea and lemon verbena is quite refreshing. I'll have to send this sample off to my sister to try out as she likes these types. < nods >

    Athens

Myrrh is very amped up on me in this one. And the honey note smells almost rancid... I get the same sourness from Alice too... I guess BPAL's honey just doesn't agree with me or something

    Frumious Bandersnatch

I can definitely pick out the carnations, which isn't the best thing in the world since I dislike carnations most heartily. The wild plum scent is very heady and rich but on me is a somewhat sour note.

    Swank

Ugh... this smells like horrible plug-in air fresheners. Ick. It's got that cheap, plasticky, gel scent that those plug-ins have when they run out of whatever scent they're supposed to smell like. Not good at all....

    Black Dahlia

Hrm... when wet, I didn't particular think I was going to like this blend. It was just missing something. After the initial drydown it mellows out and comes more into focus, but I still can't pick out anything specific in it. At all. I can't even tell you if I think it's more floral or golden amber or which floral is dominant or anything. I may have to try this one again at a a later date... my cold may be getting to me.

    Euphrosyne

Fairly nice floral blend. I think it's slightly heavy on the gardenia but overall, it's still a very light scent. Not my general cup of tea though... it's just kind of boring for me.

    Velvet

Chocolate wood... lol. That's all I really get from this. There's a faint hint of the myrrh but it's pretty stamped out by the sandalwood.

    Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo

The comparison to that dusty bubblegum is a pretty accurate one. This is a surprisingly foody scent for me. Very sweet and sugary. It reminds me of hard-candies sitting in a glass bowl just begging for you to grab one and let it melt on your tongue. Very nice.... I really may have to get a bottle of this.

    Salomé

The almond in this gives it a very boozy almost anise note to this blend. I'm not a fan of anise so this isn't the greatest thing in the world. The sandalwood dominates as it usually does for me and overpowers everything else. When I first put it on, the Egyptian musk was very lovely but now I can't even catch a whiff of it.

    Catherine

Named for the ambitious, vengeful poisoner Catherine deMedici, who used perfumes to perform her dark deeds. A sinful blend of orange blossom, rosemary and rose... allegedly the exact perfume she utilzed in her work. Oooh... VERY strong on the rosemary... and not in a good way. Gack. On wet I caught the faint whiff of the orange blossom but not before the rosemary overtook me. Not a hint of rose at all. After the initial drydown the orange blossom comes out timidly, but still not enough to overpower the rosemary.

    Saturnalia

More evidence that vetiver just simply does not like me. < sigh > I can't even smell the violets, just heady, dusty vetiver. Not at all good.
