I love the amber bottles! They're such a pretty color and they add to the mystique of all my delicious perfumes...

Great minds think alike, Neon! MN is very...meditative. It's perfect for reading.

Wow! All of the labels are gorgeous! I can't wait to get mine! Thanks for uploading the pics

La Belle au Bois Dormant For some reason I'm smelling light wood and apples. It's got a powder quality to it, too, but in a good way. Must be very well blended, because I can't pick out any of the notes. Not even the tuberose. It all comes together nicely. This is a very girly, fresh and fruity scent.

Lust I feel like there was a mixup at the Lab, because this smells identical to Imp. It's patchouli and fruit. Will have to re-test.

yeah! please?

I love Midsummer's Night. I think it's my favorite fragrance from Yankee. I find it very comforting and I always burn mine when I read Harry Potter

Lolita Wow. Just like an orange Starburst! Nice!

Black Lily This started out as a true-to-life lily. I could even smell the pollen! Turned out musty and gross like a grandma's house.

Polished metallic notes, glossy leather, frankincense, star anise, and thin lubricating oils. This frimp almost got away from me! I was opening my BPAL birthday box in the car and it scuttled away under the car seat! Thankfully, I was able to recover it and try it out. My first impression was "WOW! Leather!" Then the metallics, and the spice. I didn't think I liked star anise, but I love what it does in this blend. The overall effect is spicy and strong and expensive-smelling. This is a very warm and cozy blend. Unique!

The Little Sparrow OH NO. This immediately made me queasy. It smelled like a bird cage in need of a good cleaning. Also wood. Lots and LOTS of harsh-smelling wood. However, when I covered it up with Dragon's Blood, it was quite nice!

Les Bijoux Smells like tart apples and peaches to the point that they block out all the other notes. Maybe my skin amps those notes, or maybe they just need to calm down with age. It reminds me of Shango. Tart fruit and vague creaminess. I thought this would be amazing, but I'm disappointed. It's pretty boring. Strong throw.
-
The Lion It just smells like watered-down cinnamon and stale graham crackers. I'm really biased, though, because anything with cinnamon tends to be "meh" in my opinion. Smells like Life cereal or something.

This intrigues me. *updates wish list*
-
Lurid Not smelling the lavender much. I definitely get all the other notes, though. This is ozone and musk dripping with currant juice mixed with the funk of resin.
-
Leather dominates on me. It dries down to a nice, flowery, spicy, sexy smell. Reminds me of a favorite from Crabtree and Evelyn called Azzemour.

Dragon's Blood It's funny how dragon's blood resin smells like anything BUT resin. It's like a humid greenhouse full of flowers, add some cherry, and the smell of rice steam. I wore this on a very hot day and it was nice, but I fell in love with it when I went into a frigid air-conditioned lecture hall. This is gonna kick ass in the winter! *This was frimped to me from The Lab!

Lysander Lysander has a pseudo-mentholated quality that won't clear your sinuses, but smells very volatile. Like a vapor. At the same time, it has a rich, grounding, fleshy vanilla smell. I can see how people smell foodiness in this. I'm guessing that's the musk, tonka, and benzoin. I get a teensy weensy bit of lime zest, too. I haven't the slightest clue what myrtle smells like. There is a pleasant herbalness running through, so maybe that's it? A thought-provoking scent. Fans of Schrödinger's Cat (like me!) should give this a try. Stays very close to the skin but is long-lasting. ***OK...I don't like this scent as much as I thought I did. It gets really suffocatingly sweet on me after a while. Almost like the smell of laughing gas. Uggghh... Maybe it will be better in small doses. I will try it again and not slather so much next time! ETA formatting

Lampades This reminds me very much of Urd. I don't really get cranberry specifically, but I get a tart, juicy, fruit smell. Not sure about the other notes. Will have to try on another day because my nose must be really messed up. I like it though.

Sweet scents, sugar notes & things that smell like candy

Eat Me is a very realistic cake smell + currants. Scrumptious! Bread-and-Butter-Fly is hmm...like cake and tea! And sugar! High-Strung Daisies is sugary and peppery. It's very unique and hard to describe. Really must smell this one. The notes are: Daisy, pink carnation, pink pepper, and sugar. Dorian is quite foody to my nose. It's like creamy tea with lots of sugar and lemon. Hermia has that wonderful pink pepper note with golden amber, passion flower, and honeysuckle. It's very juicy and sweet and spicy at the same time. It makes me smile! good luck and happy sniffing! -
Pink pepper, golden amber, honeysuckle, and passion flower. Hermia Eeeee!! So nice! I definitely get the bite of the pepper and a honey-like, buttery...something else. Not sure what the other flowers smell like. I really don't smell much amber. This is spicy and juicy and flowery and YAY!!!! *this was frimped to me from The Lab! Edited to add Lab description.

Blood The clove overpowers pretty much everything else in this blend, except a teensy hint of cherry and dragon's blood. The combination smells like a Christmas candle to me. Meh. *This was frimped to me from The Lab!

Love-Lies-Bleeding Ehhh...not sure about this one. It kinda smells like cherry chocolates and dust. Also reminds me of how those cupcake dolls used to smell. It's a very musty, sickly sweet smell. I thought I would love it. Invokes childhood memories, but I'm not sure it's something I want to smell like.

Lyonesse This is almost like the lovechild of Black Opal and Szepasszony. I mostly smell vanilla and marine notes. It's nice, but I'm not head-over-heels in love with it like I thought I would be.

Love a Victoria's Secret fragrance? Looking for a BPAL cousin to it?
ModderRhu replied to foundmyhappyplace's topic in Recommendations
Hi and welcome! Here are my recommendations: Titania: white grape, white peach, iced pear, musk rose, sweet pea, moonflower and snapdragon. High-Strung Daisies: daisy, pink carnation, pink pepper, and sugar. Black Opal: no listed notes, but it's an ubersexy, unique vanilla/coconut. Queen Gertrude: imperial violet softened by wisteria and chrysanthemum, but edged with the regal iciness of delphinium. Ladon: dragon’s blood resin, golden apple, apple blossom, white musk and hyacinth. 51: green mandarin, neroli, honeydew, white amber, guava, freesia, white and green musks hovering over desert scrub, smashed wood, and the dry, biting scent of night air over the Groom Lake salt flats. happy sniffing!
