Whole Unto Herself

I got a handful of Liliths at DragonCon. I chose them by cold sniff, not even remembering the notes as I went happily along sniffing. At first I thought this was going to be a juicy floral, and it is, at first. Wet flowers present juicy and fruity at first, though nothing aquatic about the wetness of the florals. The frankincense steps in and keeps the roses quite tame and grounded. This is a beautiful, thoughtful scent.

Calico Jack

Sea air, driftwood, waterlogged kelp, and the memory of plundered spices sprayed over worn leathers, rough musk, and the salty wooden floorboards of the Revenge. Calico Jack is spot on with his description. He's warm and sexy from the woods and leather and cool and salty from the ocean spray. This scent is very aquatic at first, but the other components really start to warm and dry after is sits on the skin awhile. Aquatic and leather scents are not my cup of tea but I'm finding this scent quite pleasant and I'm happy I got to try it out.
3. Red musk, vanilla bean, pomegranate, black currant, patchouli leaf and wild plum. It's tough to compare this to the original since my bottle has aged so beautifully. I do remember thinking, "WHOA, RED MUSK" way back when my bottle was fresh. This version is sweeter, fruitier revealing heavier pomegranate, richer (and more sugared) plum. I get lots more vanilla, coupled with the addition of black currant, the red musk is held tightly in check. This version seems more lighthearted than the original, but I have a feeling it will darken as it ages. I love this fresh, new version, it would be amazing in hair gloss, bath oil, and atmos! Will update this post with a photo when the pitchcard arrives.

Poisoned Apple

The queen stepped before her mirror: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, Who in this land is fairest of all? The mirror answered: You, my queen, are fair; it is true. But Little Snow-White with the seven dwarfs Is a thousand times fairer than you. When the queen heard this, she shook and trembled with anger, "Snow-White will die, if it costs me my life!" Then she went into her most secret room -- no one else was allowed inside -- and she made a poisoned, poisoned apple. From the outside it was red and beautiful, and anyone who saw it would want it. Then she disguised herself as a peasant woman, went to the dwarfs' house and knocked on the door. Snow-White peeped out and said, "I'm not allowed to let anyone in. The dwarfs have forbidden it most severely." "If you don't want to, I can't force you," said the peasant woman. "I am selling these apples, and I will give you one to taste." "No, I can't accept anything. The dwarfs don't want me to." "If you are afraid, then I will cut the apple in two and eat half of it. Here, you eat the half with the beautiful red cheek!" Now the apple had been so artfully made that only the red half was poisoned. When Snow-White saw that the peasant woman was eating part of the apple, her desire for it grew stronger, so she finally let the woman hand her the other half through the window. She bit into it, but she barely had the bite in her mouth when she fell to the ground dead. The queen was happy, went home, and asked her mirror: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, Who in this land is fairest of all? And it answered: You, my queen, are fairest of all. A perfect, lovely, gleaming red apple whose sweetness masks a swirl of narcotic opium, oleander, and hemlock. Poisoned Apple is straight up red apple, juicy, crisp, fragrant and a tad sour. I adore apple scents, but they rarely work on my skin. This one starts off wonderfully with the perfect red apple note. But then the other notes come to play and the scent starts to turn sharp and powdery. I'm wondering if it's the opium or the hemlock that is making that sharp, powdery undercurrent.

Voodoo Lily

Amorphallus, indeed. A breathtakingly exotic, wild, and grossly erotic spicy gold, purple-black, and burgundy lily. The word "amorphallus" makes me giggle. I know, I'm 12. At first Voodoo Lily reminds me of a lime jelly bean, but then it unfurls into a spicy gold and green floral confection. This scent is very fresh for spring, but it's also has a deep complexity that is leaving me flummoxed for an appropriate description. Voodoo Lily is indeed exotic and absolutely lovely.

Dorian

Dorian: The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself. Inspired by and created for my beloved Tedwin: my eternal, beautiful, wicked Dorian Gray. Refined, elegant, and lovely, with a noble bearing and seemingly gentle air. This blend is an artful deception: a sweet gilded blossom lying over a twisted and corrupted core. A Victorian fougere with three pale musks and dark, sugared vanilla tea. First Impression: Sweet tea. Second Impression: Oh. My. God. This is like having a cup of strong but sweet tea laced with a hint of lemon in a posh Victorian parlor whilst sitting opposite a very civilised Victoran gentleman. And as soon as the maid serving the tea is gone, this proper Victoran gentleman fucks you six ways from Sunday. Final Analysis: Very sexy and sexual but at first sniff, oh so proper. This blend is gorgeous, a must try. Not too masculine that a woman couldn't pull off. Wear this and you will feel sexy.

Croquet

'Get to your places!' shouted the Queen in a voice of thunder, and people began running about in all directions, tumbling up against each other; however, they got settled down in a minute or two, and the game began. Alice thought she had never seen such a curious croquet-ground in her life; it was all ridges and furrows; the balls were live hedgehogs, the mallets live flamingoes, and the soldiers had to double themselves up and to stand on their hands and feet, to make the arches. The chief difficulty Alice found at first was in managing her flamingo: she succeeded in getting its body tucked away, comfortably enough, under her arm, with its legs hanging down, but generally, just as she had got its neck nicely straightened out, and was going to give the hedgehog a blow with its head, it would twist itself round and look up in her face, with such a puzzled expression that she could not help bursting out laughing: and when she had got its head down, and was going to begin again, it was very provoking to find that the hedgehog had unrolled itself, and was in the act of crawling away: besides all this, there was generally a ridge or furrow in the way wherever she wanted to send the hedgehog to, and, as the doubled-up soldiers were always getting up and walking off to other parts of the ground, Alice soon came to the conclusion that it was a very difficult game indeed. We have some trouble managing our flamingos, too. Pink lime, pink grapefruit, white nectarine, wild rose, sage, woody patchouli, bergamot, and ornery hedgehog musk. OMG! I totally forgot that I ordered this but I'm overjoyed that I did. I need a bottle of this STAT. I feared that Croquet was going to be a scary fruit scent, but instead it's creamy, citrus-y, warm yet refreshing, sweet and uplifting. The pink lime and pink grapefruit burst forth, kicking the senses into high gear. Sweet bits of nectarine start to peek out lending a creaminess to the citrus burst. The gorgeous sage note from Morella that I adore comes to warm this scent. The undercurrents of patchouli and musk ground this scent from being too bright. I can't stop sniffing my arm and my face looks like this ~~~~> The. Perfect. Spring. Scent. P.S. Please forgive the over use of emoticons, I'm just that flipping happy about this scent.

The Cross

The integration of spirit with the material world: frankincense, styrax, oakmoss, patchouli, and birch tar. Beth continues to evolve as an artist. This collection is unique, and beautiful, complex, and stunning. The notes suggested that this was going to be perfect for me. But the oakmoss is not playing well with the beautiful resins. Sharp, not smooth and creamy, like it should be. Patchouli is a winner for me 99 times out of 100, but this one is a miss.

Blood Amber

Bewitching Brews: Slivers of warm, pulsating blood forever crystallized in golden amber resin. I've been begging for this and the Lab so graciously indulged me by throwing this in with my order. First Impression: Wet this is all dragon's blood in all it's thick, juicy perfection. Second Impression: As it dries it warms and sweetens with glorious golden amber. This scent is truly burnished red and deep gold like the leaves in the height of the fall season. Final Analysis: This is everything that I had hoped it would be; balanced, warm, sweet. I am eternally grateful. EDIT: Moved thread from Up-and-Coming and added new site category --Shollin

The Night Priestess

Who leads the star-dazed hero in a moon-blessed quest for his mythical lover: night-blooming jasmine, clove bud, cardamom, moonlit vanilla orchid, and moonflower. Beth continues to evolve as an artist. This collection is unique, and beautiful, complex, and stunning. Oh, she is STUNNING! I adore night blooming jasmine, it's a note I crave but find it lacking in my collection. The evokes a moonlit lover, sexy, deep, but light and bright at the same time. A little spicy, the clove is kept in check by the florals, which is great because clove, while I like it, can be a bit of a bully in some blends. This may be one of my favorite applications of clove I've ever experienced in a BPAL blend. This blend is so smooth, nothing heady, sharp, soapy, or prickly in this moonlit bouquet of gorgeousness. I can see myself reaching for this time and again.

The Crown

The three phases of the moon fashioned into a lunar triregnum: blue chamomile, mugwort, and orris root. Beth continues to evolve as an artist. This collection is unique, and beautiful, complex, and stunning. Tea lovers rejoice! This smells like a perfect cup of herbal tea. So soothing, grounding, calming. I don't love this on my skin, but in a locket or a diffuser, this will be perfect. It's atmospheric. I want it in a room spray!

The Crescent Moon

The mystery of divine virginity, insemination, and the cradle of all birth. Fertility, wise counsel, and the gift of true wisdom. Gleaming amber and copal with white sage and sheer juniper. Beth continues to evolve as an artist. This collection is unique, and beautiful, complex, and stunning. SAGE and AMBER!!! Who knew they could be so gorgeous together. Sexy as all get out, resinous but bright, the juniper adding to the herbal brightness without going soapy. She's really soft, though. I want more throw from this, it's just so gorgeous! This would be a great scent when you want to smell amazing up close and personal for a special someone.

The Moon Goddess

Virgin, huntress, witch, holding the mysteries and powers of womanhood between her palms: vetiver, white pine, hay, Sicilian lemon, leather, and agarwood. Beth continues to evolve as an artist. This collection is unique, and beautiful, complex, and stunning. The hay is front and center, and I adore Beth's hay note, and it's here in all its glory, like you find in Hay Moon. I also find the light pine and lemon prickling beneath the hay. The huntress aspect of this scent is prominent, witch, secondary, and virgin, hmmm, not finding it. Definitely not a feminine fragrance. Vetiver and leather, two problematic notes for me, but they aren't too prominent here. I like this but I'm not as enamored with it as some of the others in the collection. I'd like to smell this on a man. I also think it will get better with age. Needs cellaring.

Eos

The Rising Sun. She is Ostara, Easter, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of fertility and the dawn. She is a protector and friend to all children. Her scent is that of softly glowing skin, jasmine, buttercup and honeysuckle. First Impression: Soft white floral. Second Impression: This is a jasmine scent for people who don't like jasmine. It's so soft and subtle. The buttercup and honeysuckle play center stage. This is very feminine and pretty. Final Analysis: Perfect Easter/springtime scent. Lovely.

The Pillars

The pillars at the entrance to Solomons temple. And he reared up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz. These two pillars, therefore, stand for the two great spiritual principles that are the basis of all Life: Jachin typifying the Unity resulting from Being, and Boaz typifying the Unity resulting from Love. In this Dual-Unity we find the key to all conceivable involution or evolution of Spirit; and it is therefore not without reason that the record of these two ancient pillars has been preserved in our Scriptures. And finally we may take this as an index to the character of our Scriptures generally. They contain infinite meanings; and often those passages which appear on the surface to be most meaningless will be found to possess the deepest significance. The Book, which we often read so superficially, hides beneath its sometimes seemingly trivial words the secrets of other things. The twin pillars Jachin and Boaz bear witness to this truth. The Hidden Power by Thomas Troward, 1921 White cedar, cypress wood, sweet myrrh, honey myrtle, white sandalwood, spikenard, and frankincense. Beth continues to evolve as an artist. This collection is unique, and beautiful, complex, and stunning. Another stunner! Again, nothing like this in my collection. Creamy, woodsy, resinous, perfectly blended, with just a breath of floral skimming below the surface. Cedar can be problematic for some people, but my skin loves cedar, rendering sweet, smooth, and gleaming. So well blended, no one note is screaming for attention. It's beautiful, I want to bathe in it.

The Scroll

Her scroll is sealed, her book is closed, and she is silent: the wisdom that she grants is that which cannot be put into words, that which cannot be recorded but must be experienced. Honeyed myrrh with a drop of Ceylon cinnamon. Beth continues to evolve as an artist. This collection is unique, and beautiful, complex, and stunning. Two problematic notes for my chemistry, honey, and cinnamon, and my skin is not having it. Myrrh is typically great for me, but unfortunately she's nowhere to be found. Honey and spice lovers are going to have so much fun with this one.

Ashlultum

Ashlultum~ Babylonian musk, vanilla tea, tonka, tobacco, coconut, hyssop, and lilac. The scent has completely captured the character depicted in the story/artwork while simultaneously being one of the most "me" perfumes I have ever had the pleasure of wearing. Beth's abilities never cease to amaze. In the bottle~a hit of herbaceous hyssop followed by sweet lilac, rich coconut and warm tonka. Love at first sniff! On my skin~I never imagined that coconut and lilac could smell this fabulous together, truly sublime. The sweet and fresh qualities of both scents play off each other and complement each other very well. Tonka and tobacco are two of my favorite notes of all time, so warm and rich, very present in this scent. Drying down~ The lilac starts to yield to Babylonian musk, which totally smacks of my most coveted musk of all time, Egyptian. Wafting up from my skin is a perfect sexy cocktail of tonka, vanilla tea, deep tobacco, sensual musk and coconut. To my delight, the lilac never completely disappears, lending a soft, floral depth to the whole experience. All the notes play so well together, one never overwhelming another. I am feel honored to be a small part of this unique and amazing collection. I'm definitely going to have to hoard "my" scent.

Centzon Totochtin

Centzon Totochtin: The Four Hundred divine rabbits of the Aztec pantheon that preside over parties and drunkenness. Bittersweet Mexican cocoa with rum, red wine, and a scent redolent of sacrificial blood. First Impression: Deep dark cocoa, Almost the scent of Nutella in a vial. Second impression: This is a very deep scent, the richest of cocoa, the finest, darkest red wine. The long drydown reveals something richly floral, but then wine and chocolate can have floral notes. It's a gorgeous scent. Though it doesn't smell like it, I can compare the "type" of scent to CK Obsession. Final Analysis: The long, long drydown went a bit funny on me, but I think it's definitely worth it as this is such a complex and unique scent.

Mantis

Crushed herbs and sweet amber resin with a streak of patchouli, neroli and golden musk. First Impression: Light citrus. Second Impression: This smells like grapefruit with the lightest touch of herbs. I'm not getting much musk or amber. Final Analysis: This will really appeal to the citrus scent lovers.

Belle Époque

Belle Epoque: "The Pretty Era", France's Golden Time: an age of beauty, innovation and peace in France that lasted from the 19th Century through the first World War and gave birth to the cabaret, the cancan, and the cinema as well as the Impressionist and Art Nouveau movements. Sweet opium, Lily of the Valley, vanilla, mandarin and red sandalwood. First Impression: Sweet vanilla and sandalwood. Second Impression: Oh, I'm in love with this. It so perfectly fits the description. The notes blend so artfully together, the sandalwood plays harmoniously with the florals and vanilla. Just gorgeous. This is a light scent, perfect for slathering. This has much more depth than Tushnamatay. Final Analysis: Big bottle for sure. It's a keeper.

The Eternal Virgin

Beth continues to evolve as an artist. This collection is unique, and beautiful, complex, and stunning. This is the first scent I tried when I got my box yesterday. Absolutely gorgeous, feminine, and ethereal but not in that ghostly way. The carnation and cardamom is a magical combination, sweet, creamy, with just the suggestion of spice. Honey and milk can be problematic for me, but here, they are barely a breath, grounding the scent. I love that I have nothing like it in my collection. Simply gorgeous!

Delphi

The smoke of Sacred Incense of Apollo twined through laurel branches, bay, and honey wine. First Impression: Honey wine and bay. Second Impression: This brings up images of the first Olympic games in ancient Greece and the celebrations that must have occurred during and after. You can smell each of the notes and they are lovely. Final Analysis: I adore the honey scents but they do go a bit dirty funky on my skin on the long dry down. I hope this one will prove to be the exception because it's a beauty.

Lilith's Kwamie Cotton

I couldn't find notes on this. I'll have to ask Lilith who Kwamie is when I see her a dinner this evening. This is the softest and most fleeting of the three Lilith creations. It's so soft and so light and really quiet. It reminds me of a soft stuffed toy lamb, not a new one, but a raggedy well loved one that smells of lots of bedtime baths and bedtime stories. I have zero maternal anything about me, I'm allergic to human babies, but this made me say, "Awwwwww!"
24. Ina Garten Davita

Sweet Potato Musk

Weirdly wearable! Brown sugar-glazed sweet potato musk with honeyed ambrette, pulverized pumpkin seed, white oats, toasted cardamom, and sugared clove. From the bottle and wet on the skin it smells like sweet potato mash with a spiced oat and crushed pumpkin seed topping. There is a whisper of brown sugar but it's not caramelized or burnt, more like fresh brown sugar when you open a fresh bag for holiday baking. It's not buttery, there is no crust note here!! It starts off foody but as the notes open up, it starts to lean more towards an elegant gourmand perfume (as opposed to a buttery baked good type of scent, which is such wonderful news to my nose.) I love that the spices are not reading as cinnamon and how the soft musk of the ambrette is holding all together. It's the perfect accessory for getting dressed up for a fancy Thanksgiving dinner. It's a shame it was so limited, it's a lovely scent just perfect for the season. Really well done, just beautiful.

Lilith's Love Low

I managed to grab all three of the Lilith's Dragon Con exclusives at the booth yesterday and meet the little lady herself. I can't seem to find any notes or information on this scent. I'm terrible at reviews without knowing the notes because my nose likes to play tricks, Soft, pretty, slightly floral, sweet, with the barest breath of lavender that leaves so quickly it made me wonder if it was imagination. Definitely the strongest of the three scents and it's morphing quite a bit. I'm not sure if I love this on me.
