    Cerberus

First Impression: Lemon buttercream chocolate truffle. Second Impression: Very sweet lemon, almost a Limoncello scent. I'm very surprised that there is no lemon listed in the description. Although I get 99% Limoncello scent, underneath I can detect the slightly bitter walnut, the ripeness of the fig and that chocolate. Final Analysis: It's a rare lemon scent that I enjoy, but I really enjoyed the drydown of this. I don't know if I love it enough to purchase a bottle, but I will wear the imp that Donna shared with me.

    Rose Red

First Impression: It's the cold rose smell of a florists refrigerator. Second Impression: I'm pleased I got to try the revisited version so I could compare it to the original. Rose Red 2004 has the same cold, fresh rose scent but sweeter and without the sharp astringent scent that 2003 had. This scent is very strong when first applied. But it softens and rounds out as it dries, but still retains that pure, freshly cut rose scent. Final Analysis: While there is no denying Beth's genius in creating Rose Red, it cannot eclipse Crucible of Courage as the most beautiful rosy scent ever.

The Best Scents for Home, a Room, the Car...

I know I've typed this plenty of times, but I love March Hare as a linen/room spray. Disney at Christmas in a bottle.

    Cold Moon

First Impression: Sharp and aquatic with a hint of cold juiciness. Second Impression: Oh, I wish I was getting the Skadi vibe from this. Cold Moon is, for sure, cold, but it's much too sharp and aquatic for me. Final Analysis: Not agreeing with me at all. Off to a home where you'll be loved.

    Saint-Germain

First Impression: Golden and glorious amber. Second Impression: This is very masculine amber, but it's got to be my favorite amber incarnation to date. The amber is tempered very well by the carnation, which adds a spicy kick and mosses which keeps it grounded and from getting sweet. I don't get much lavender, which is good as it's not a favorite of mine. Final Analysis: So happy to have a bottle of this. It might be too masculine for some ladies, but I love it on me.

    Titus Andronicus

First Impression: Sweet amber. Second Impression: These gentlemen's blends are just one better than the next. This is sweet amber but it's well tempered by the dark musk. Vaguely citrusy from the neroli. The bergamot peeking out is keeping this sophisticated rather than sexy. Final Analysis: I'll pass this on to Smell Bill, but with hopes that I'll get it back.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Golden Priapus is very warm, sweet vanilla on me as soon as the juniper dries down. It's nothing like Skadi to my nose or on my skin. My skin really amps vanilla and sweetness, though.

    Bewitched

First Impression: Berries and sage. Second Impression: I love this scent but it doesn't seem to like me. There is a note, or two in here that is identical to King of Spades. It's making that wonderful, sensual berry smell turn almost rancid. King of Spades did the same thing, in fact the dry-down on both are nearly identical. Final Analysis: Gutted, as the sage and berries works so well together.

    Sophia

First Impression: Lavender and spices. Second Impression: This is a lovely scent that I would enjoy if not for the potent headache-inducing lavender. Very rarely will I get a headache from one of Beth's scents, but unfortunately this is one of those times. Final Analysis: The star jasmine note is gorgeous in this. It lingers after I washed it off. I'm sorry that this one didn't work. Quite.

    Marquise de Merteuil

First Impression: Peaches. Second Impression: I, of vetiver hating, could not find the vetiver in this, much to my delight. This fragrance is peachy but there is nothing girlish or playful about it. It's like the evil-stepmother of Katharina (Beth's peach and apricot notes are interchangeable on me). Bold, commanding, slightly sinister but tricksy with that peach note. The amber and florals come later in the drydown after the peach settles a bit. Final Analysis: I'm impressed by this fragrance but don't feel it's me at all. I feel more at home wearing Katharina.

    Vinland

First Impression: Fresh, tart berries. Second Impression: This has a slight tartness that keeps that gorgeous berry smell from getting overly sweet. This is a green scent, clean, lovely. Final Analysis: Really nice with an interesting drydown. Tart tempered berries.

    Antony

First Impression: Light musk with the barest hint of leather. Second Impression: It must be my chemistry because this, like the "masculine" white musk blends like Whitechapel and Villain go very sweet on me. The leather on this is working for me. Think Villain with leather rather than citrus. Final Analysis: I'm loving the "traditionally masculine" blends. The drydown on this is nearly undetectable from Villain on my skin. Just wonderful.

    Chiroptera

First Impression: All pink and green like a warm spring afternoon. Second Impression: I love honeysuckle and this scent showcases it ever so nicely. I don't know what I was expecting from a scent dedicated to bats but it wasn't this. It's sunny and warm, bright and fresh, uplifting and joyful. I get lemon balm only when wet but once dry it's dreamy honeysuckle goodness. Final Analysis: I was peeking through my bottles and realized that I don't have a really nice pink-spring floral. This is in the running.

    Nefertiti

First Impression: All myrrh. Second Impression: I was expecing a bronze goddess sort of scent, but this is very green. The myrrh takes over though, on my skin it's like vetiver jr. and that's not good. Final Analysis: After upwards of 350 scents, I'm still learning what works on my skin and what doesn't. BPAL has been quite a journey. Nefertiti is going to the swap pile.

    Springtime scents

If it's been mentioned then I'm seconding. Chiroptera is *springtime* captured in a vial. I can't even believe how sunny, warm, fresh and lovely it is. Wow.

    Hearth

First Impression: Maraschino cherries, straight up. Second Impression: The cherries dry down fast leaving just a faint hint of cherries. I'm not getting any wood or smoke. A super-soft Italian leather couch. Very buttery, well worn leather. But not the leather like in Wanda and Loviatar. A hint of sweet tobacco is in there too. This is much "thinner" of a scent than I was expecting. I'm wondering if aging would help it's depth a bit. Final Analysis: I don't have one, actually. I'm unsure if I like this or not. I'm going to keep this a while and try layering it with Snake Oil, it seems they might suit each other.

    Masabakes

First Impression: Strong and sharp. This one has teeth. Second Impression: My skin reacts to myrrh similar to the way it reacts to vetiver. This one has staying power and throw. It's all I can smell. Final Analysis: This doesn't suit me. I'm glad I got to try it though.

    Villain

First Impression: Deep lavender. Not the "old lady" kind. Second Impression: The lavender fades away nicely, which is good as it's not one of my favorite scents. But Villain just might become one. There is something familiar about this, something from childhood, so it is very comforting, I'm not getting a lot of lilac so I know it's not that. It is hard to describe, the musk is clean and sweet. The citrus isn't over powering. Refined is the word that keeps springing to mind. Final Analysis: Clean, refined and comforting. A soft, clean shaven cheek of a man who is very much adored. I can't stop smelling my wrist. I actually prefer this to Whitechapel, which surprises me. This has just replaced Whitechapel on the big bottle list.
  19. Antique Lace has really good staying power and lots of throw.

Looking for something along the lines of Michael

A wonderful creamy and spicy floral is Hell's Belle. It may give you similar "feeling" if not a similar scent.

    Beachy, Tropical Scents

I grew up in Revere, MA which is right on the ocean. spent 32 years there. When I smelled Sea of Glass it took me right back there.

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

I've got Lobban on one wrist and Whitechapel on the other. Once the lime is dried down from the Whitechapel they are amazingly similar.
