Florals and herbs. I don't like lily, it's so "old" to me. Violet is iffy especially with other florals. It's giving me a burning, tickly feeling in my throat. Must wash off.

How did Beth get volcanic gas in my imp? I've never smelled that but I smelled a smoky, acidic note when I popped it open. Then I smelled a creamy tropical flower and something dark green and slimy and what else? Eucalyptus? Cedar? When it's dry, I mostly smell tropical flowers. What a morpher!

Aquatics don't work with my chemistry. They always turn to dryer sheets and soapiness. I do love smelling them in the imp, though. I love how this really smells like salty, spicy carnation, but watered-down Alice.

I received this as a frimp in a swap so I have no idea how old it is. It's very red and thick, and I can't pick out any notes other than "floral", "soapy" and generally "perfumey".

Well...I opened the imp and smelled something that reminded me of a Mexican restaurant. Corn tortillas and lime. I tested a drop on my finger, and it's a citrusy floral. I have no idea what that corn tortilla phase was all about. Maybe I'm hungry?

Wet...buttery rum. I almost didn't want to test this. On my skin and as it dried down, I smelled bay leaves, a bit of vetiver, and a bit of spicy galangal. I'm not sure if I love this. I think if the buttery rum wasn't there, I'd like it more.

This smells just like Fairy Wine. I can't smell any myrrh or resins...just GRAPES.

This makes me think of a pink and green bouquet. Tuberose is a floral I used to love in Fracas, and lime brightens this up nicely. The jasmine is a little funky though. Either way, it's very feminine.

Meh...I love honey and red musk, but this is more spices and florals with icky caramel.

Banana uggghhhh I amp coconut, so I can smell that and a bit of grenadine, but this is overpoweringly fake, sweet, banana.

I would have never tried this unless it was frimped to me. In the imp, it's a dark green woody scent, like pine or balsam. Very masculine. This stays true on my skin, but now I smell a lovely brandy. There is something almost sparkling about this, and I kind of love it.

Like Mountaingrrl, I think this smells like sophisticated older woman perfume, and I love it. The opium is thick and sweet with resins, with just the right amount of powdery amber and just enough sweet plum to make it sexy. I only need a drop of this, it's VERY intense.

Milk and honey, with a touch of warm cinnamon. It reminds me a lot of the original Beaver Moon or Monsterbait Underbed. I think it's too much like a foody vanilla candle to wear but I like the idea of it.

I love Goblin. The black coconut and patchouli are divine. I like Obatala for a beachy coconut but I have to mix it with Pele for that ultimate tropical smell. I thought Tiki Princess was IT but now it smells very soapy.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

I just tested Cockaigne and thought it was more like Beaver Moon 05 than Underpants. Underpants is a very unique scent, and so far I haven't come across anything similar in the GC. -
Chocolate and Cocoa, in every combination possible

Boomslang from the Carnaval Diabolique: If you like Snake Oil, this is the perfect chocolate scent. It's not overly foody-sweet, it dries down to a delicious dark chocolate cocoa over vanilla. -
I've only tried Zombi, Snooty Rose, and Blood Rose out of the ones you listed. Zombi is rose with damp earth and oakmoss. Blood Rose is a sweet dragon's blood drenched rose, almost grapey from the red wine note. Snooty Rose is very interesting. It smells like sweet rose and apricot or plum to me with a bit of sandalwood. The drydown is actually everything but rose though. I wish the smell from the wet stage lasted longer.

It was a Limited Edition so it can no longer be ordered from the Lab. You may find someone offering it on the Sales or Swap pages. You can also post an ISO in the Wanted forum. HTH

I finally got a bottle of this, after hearing how awesome it was. I had my reservations since lavender is something I like to smell, but not wear. In the bottle and wet on skin, it's a sharp medicinal lavender, almost tea-tree-ish. I smell vanilla, sugar and marshmallow and it's a strange mix with the sharp herbal note. Several minutes later it becomes a delicious warm, gooey marshmallow-vanilla with barely any lavender. It's so yummy I could lick myself. It's also making me a bit sleepy. Nap time!

I'm shocked I haven't reviewed this! It's one of my most favorite GC blends. It's all dark chocolate, hibiscus and honey...sex syrup. This has red wine in it, but it doesn't turn into awful grape juice. I keep telling myself I need a backup bottle.

2005 version I expected this to be the glorious, golden amber scent I've been searching for, and it delivered! It's very light in the bottle and upon first application. I barely smell the amber, which is thin and dry, with a bit of sweetness from the benzoin. It begins to bloom after a few minutes, and the amber is sweet, rich and golden with a creamy lemony note reminiscent of Joyful Moon--could that be the ambrette seed? It's truly lovely. I wish it had more throw, but it's a great scent to wear when you want to feel like you're snuggled in a fuzzy blanket.

This perfume was completely under my radar until I saw it on a swap post and got excited. I love Poe and ravens, but the GC "The Raven" didn't work on me. Raven Moon is resinous, smokey, and thick with benzoin, vanilla and golden patchouli. The chili gives it a nice kick but without being noticeably spicy. Flawlessly blended, it smells like sleek black bird feathers. This is one of the most perfect lunacy blends; it's right up there with Panther Moon. As a matter of fact, they smell very similar since they both share black musk, benzoin, and warm spices.

This smelled like a strawberry Jolly Rancher as soon as I opened the Lab box. I could almost taste the peach-strawberry candy as I applied the oil to my skin, and I could also smell the creamy cheesecake. The blend went a bit plasticky when I smelled it up close, then it disappeared. I'm also hoping the sweetness dies down and it gets more creamy. Beaver Moon '05 is still my #1 beaver.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I have to agree that Banshee Beat smells a lot like Angel on me. It's not an exact match, but very close. -
It's trial and error. It took me several months to be able to start picking up notes. At first, my nose was so untrained that I could only pick out "musk", "floral", "resin", "green" or "vanilla". Now, I can distinguish between different types of musk, vanilla, woods, florals, etc. I'm still learning, and found that I amp certain notes like honey, ginger, red musk, and teak (to name a few) so those notes tend to overwhelm anything else that may be in the blend. This is great when I love the notes but if we're talking about aquatics, vetiver or milk, it can be very bad. Definitely train yourself on the scents with few notes, so you get used to what they smell like, and try everything. I like to test the scent and take notes before I look at the Lab description. I usually get frustrated and look up the notes right away and then I'm like "Oooh so THAT'S what I'm smelling".
