  1. Like everyone else, I get TKO on summer vacation. Daybreak starts with nearly straight up lavender, but as it dries, the coconut/vanilla softness makes an appearance. I have a smidge of TKO atmo left (never tried the actual oil), but I actually prefer Daybreak as a sleep scent. I confess I haven't worn it as a daytime scent for fear I'll just curl up in a snuggly ball somewhere and get nothing done.

  2. Lizzie, I get the opposite reaction to you--when I smelled it in the bottle and wet on my skin, I was horrified at the chemistryfail, because it smelled like soured, rotting flowers, like when you leave something in the water in a vase too long. However, before it even dried down, I was surrounded in this beautiful, bright floral cloud...huffed my wrist, still not pleasant, but the throw was *completely* different. After drydown, what's left on my skin is a bright, almost fruity floral. I'll have to test this more with a more normal application than my suspicious tiny test.

  3. Yay tomato leaf! I love that smell and I get it here, playing nicely with the sharp tang of the dead leaves (I always think of a pile of leaves after a fall rain, drenched, decaying a little, with a cold wind blowing the scent around)--basically this is my backyard right now...the end of my tomato plants with all the neighborhood leaves blown into my yard. On my skin, I don't get the black pepper, though I get some of it sniffing the bottle.

Once it dried, I get a little bit of a powdery sweetness creeping in, but my skin tends to do that to a lot of notes, and it doesn't bother me. The scent in the air around me has that dry, crumbling vibe, but if I huff my wrist I still have the gorgeous tomato leaf hiding.

    Definitely a keeper for me.

  4. While I can catch whiffs of the individual notes, on my skin this blends into a very nice overall haze of scent. The dead leaves in this blend don't have the tanginess that I expect with that note, they're gentled by the vanilla and clove into something almost reminiscent of scented tobacco to my nose. The leather is a soft, subtle one underpinning the rest of the scent. It's a littel sweet, but still unisex/masculine leaning.

My overall impression is that of an older, scholarly gentleman's study with his pouch of pipe tobacco and well worn leather couches. I'm not super-enamoured of it to wear, but I would adore that vibe in an atmo.

eta: my skin eats this. I'm not a slatherer by nature but if I use just my customary drop it's totally gone within half an hour, any throw or staying power requires a pretty heavy (to me) application.

  5. The lemon note is very clear on first application, but it very quickly fades on my skin, and unfortunately in the early drydown the very lovely incense note is marred by a tart citrus-y funk for the overall impression of citronella candle. The funk stage doesn't last long and turns back into faintly lemony incense; it's not offensive, but not quite my thing either. Pity since the incense note itself is lovely on me.

  6. So very weird...when I applied The Book on my wrist I got a soft, sweet leather with basically no rose; applied in the crook of my elbow it's mostly rose, but unlike most rose scents, it's not going wonky on me, it's one of the more true rose scents I've tried and there's very little throw. :peep: If it morphs between delicate leather and real roses like this, I think I'll be snagging myself a bottle.

  7. Love this. Haven't gotten a good picture of mine but it's a semi-sheer, milky pale pink. With two coats the iridescence turns into more of a bluish pearly sheen, but it's still quite pretty. It actually looks like a subtle white-tipped manicure. I do agree that it would be pretty as a sheer single coat, but definitely apply a base coat if your nails are at all ridged, or you'll get lines.

I will say I'm quite impressed with the durability of the claw polish. Applied two coats last night, no base or top coat, dried so quickly I didn't ding my nails at all, and today I spent probably an hour scrubbing paint out of jeans and scraping it off with my nails, and nothing's chipped. Nail torture test passed with flying colors.

  8. Putting up a new review since I just got the 2015 version, and I'm comparing the two. Both are equally light, but the 2015 doesn't have the mellow, almost dusty vibe of the original, instead it's got a much clearer, sharper citrus from the lemongrass and blood orange.

  9. This is definitely in the same snow family to my nose as Skadi (the more recent one, I wasn't around for for the first iteration), Woods in Winter, etc., without any berries or other notes to muddy up the snow scent. Sadly sugared anything and I do not jive, I get a very chemical-y sweet note in with the cold Lab snow smell, and that's the end of that.

  10. This is gorgeous and very well blended--I can pick out the notes but nothing's clobbered its way to the foreground. The clove is doing wonders for me in toning down the sandalwood's sweetness, and the whole thing blends into a spicy, not-quite-incensy haze. I think this is still a little strong for me, but the scent itself is just beautiful.

  11. In the bottle I get the moss and cypress very clearly, and there's a snowy, minty clean undertone, the overall effect is sharp and cold, very slightly sweet to my nose.

Unfortunately, this is a total skin chemistry fail on me, something takes it straight to stale cologne territory.

  12. Intrigue is a bit of a strange beach scent, it's more the exotic shaded hut a little ways back from the surf (Black palm, with cocoa, fig and shadowy wooded notes)

My favorite coconut scent is the LE Goldenrod Crab Spider (White mint, coconut, Indonesian champaca flower, lime rind, white ginger, and green tea.)

I don't know how this year's stacks up, but the original Season of Ghosts was a very beachy scent to me, it reminded me of vacations in Florida, a fruity citrusy sunscreen-ish scent, but not coconut (bergamot, frankincense, rose geranium, ginger, lemongrass, and blood orange).

eta: Pele and Havana (discontinued, sadly) are hot, humid, tropical scents to me also

  13. This is definitely the life cycle of a Christmas tree. Wet, it's very sharp and almost menthol-y, then as it dries it morphs into true Christmas tree, and then it picks up the woody/sawdust smell. The throw is very low on me, which I like since I'm around very scent-sitive people most of the time. The only downside is that when I huff my arm, there's a faint sweet perfumey afterscent, so I might try a scent locket and see if it's a skin chemistry thing. I probably don't need more than my decant of this, but it's quite a fun scent experience.

  14. This is stunningly beautiful. Part of the wildflower mix that sticks out to me is a mum/marigold kind of thing, maybe from the leaves. The closest comparison I can make to La Calavera Catrina from the Weenies a few years ago. Catch Me is like Catrina's little sister, the same floral heart but a little softer (I get a tiny bit of powder), innocent and playful.

  15. I straight up adore this. On first application I get a nice herby lavender, but it fades pretty quickly blends in with the rest of the notes. I do get the soapy impression that a couple of other reviews mentioned, but it's the best kind of soapy--this is tumbling out of the bath into freshly washed sheets, clean and inviting and just a little sweet. I got the TKO atmo to try in the same order as this, and I have to say, as a bedtime scent for me, Once Upon a Time wins hands down.

  16. I had to get a bottle of this unsniffed and was hoping for a more unisex/masculine leaning variant of BB. I've worn this several times the last few days and not so much with the similarity...on me this is close to a patch single note, but it's much smoother and softer than either of the SNs, and almost has a cedar-y vibe, a bit like Aureus to my nose. Hippie also stays much closer to the skin than some other patch blends I've tried, so I can have my comforting not-quite-dirty hippie scent at work with no problems.

HOWEVER, it is the first perfume where I've noticed a distinct shift during shark week (pardon the TMI), and the first few minutes after application, I get wafts of skunky weed. :ack: It burns off after a bit and I'm left with my nice soft patch skin scent, but sheesh. Even though I live in CO, that's not really gonna fly at the office.

  17. I'm another one who's not tried the TKO oil, but in hopes of finding something to help me pass out at night, I snagged a bottle of the atmo. When first sprayed, I get a hint of vanilla, and then the lavender wanders in. It's very distinct, but not sharp or astringent; it's more like smelling dried lavender flowers than lavender e.o. I guess. The vanilla-ish note doesn't stay distinct, but the sweetness blends with the lavender into something soft and mellow, and to my nose, it almost has a licorice-y vibe, or something like the super strong violet candies my grandmother loved from Germany.

I haven't had a chance to test it out as a sleep aid, but a squirt in my office was certainly lovely and calming, and I enjoy the scent regardless.

  18. In early stages, this is glorious. It starts out as straight up fresh apple, like just-cut-an-apple-in-half apple, which is an experience I've never gotten from a perfume before. The apple sticks around a reasonable amount of time, softened and sweetened by the other notes.

The apple doesn't stick around super long, but the base certainly does.....twelve hours later I still gets wafts when I move my arm, but what's left is strangely reminiscent of the Wild Musk perfume I had in high school. It's not at all a bad scent, just not remotely what I would have expected.

  19. I was gifted a bottle of this in a circular swap, and I will first say that orange blossom is historically godawful on me (generally on my skin it turns to corn chips) but every other note here I love, so I really wanted to try it anyway.

This is the first butterfly I can wear, and the first orange blossom scent that hasn't gone funky on me. It's a miracle! First applied it is all orange blossom all the time, it's fantastic, and has a ton of throw in that stage. After the drydown, it's soft, sweet, and fuzzy smelling as the tonka and sandalwood come out, with some lingering orange blossom, and it stays much closer to the skin. I'll have to edit this later when I have some idea of wear length, but I love this scent!

  20. The scent and the name definitely do not jive in this case. In the imp, this is sweet, orange-leaning citrus. On my skin, the orange fades very quickly, leaving me with fruit-tinged bubblegum. I actually love this because I can't wear candy/sugar scents, so now I have something to reach for when I feel like that kind of playful scent. There's a bit of similarity with Tweedledum to my nose, so I guess fig equates to bubblegum for me. My only complaint is that it lasts about an hour tops.

  21. Tombstone is really pretty (and a little rootbeer-y), Embalming Fluid is a very light, clean smell (if you've ever smelled Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea it's very similar), Kumiho is light and clean as well. Aglaea is a beautiful peach smell, Delirium (rose, apple, and lemon) is nice, too. For age appropriate resins and woods, I might recommend The Lion, Tweedledum (there's almost something bubblegumlike about this to me, I love it), or maybe Intrigue if you don't mind a hint of coconut smell.
