L’Intention Fait Valoir les Bagatelles
reconditarmonia replied to Casablanca's topic in Lupercalia
Eeesh, is this what they call herbal lavender? It feels very cold and fuzzy somehow, and reminds me of another BPAL I've tried that didn't work for me - maybe Fairy Bites? (I can't even remember now if I've tried Pain or not.) Maybe I just need to stop hoping I'll find my perfect lavender- 9 replies

I expected this to be similar to Hojojutsu because of the rice milk and currant, but instead it's Cave of Treasures with what I assume is a myrrh and/or vetiver undertone - smoky, dirty. (I just deathmatched this with Hojojutsu and will try to remember to deathmatch it with Cave later.) I guess I amp amber cream?

Huh, this reminds me of Plunder! It's very dry, which is perfect for me - I can't do stuff that's too foody. The spices are the dominant note. Huge throw.

Thanks!

I hope this is the right place to ask...does anyone know what US to Colombia shipping costs? Someone offering to buy some of the stuff I'm selling is in Colombia and I don't know what to charge for shipping.

(This was the Yule scent whose description grabbed me the most!) Ooooh. I can definitely smell the similarity to Knave of Hearts in the pastry, but there's also a very true lavender at first application. I think I get the ale too, but more as a feeling than as "yup, that's beer." Can't smell the lavender as much as it dries; I'll have to test it again to be sure (I did just take it out of the mailbox during a terrible cold snap) but if the lavender stays, this'll be a bottle purchase. Edit: Aha, that's what the fruity scent is - currants or something. No wonder it's so like Knave! But I think I can still smell some of the lavender, and either way, it's very nice. Bottle!

Hmm. I might have to test this again, but the white tea (I assume) is making it very hand-soapy on me in a way that the lilac, though definitely noticeable, doesn't counteract.

Hrm. It's very pleasant but I think I associate sweet pea too much with Bath and Body Works to do more than use up my decant.

Yeah, this is rather shampoo-like, I'm afraid. The cassia adds a more complex undertone, but not enough to fix the shampoo-ness.

Haha it's a large order for me since I don't have so much money to spend and usually buy on the forum where things are cheaper...it's two LEs and some wand caps
-
(Sorry if this is a duplicate.) I know it's been a holiday weekend, but should I be worried that I made a large order via Paypal on the 20th and it hasn't been acknowledged in any way? I know I'm of course not going to get a CnS for some time, but when one orders through Paypal, is there any kind of confirmation that the Lab received the order?

Mercury is lavender and a woody cinnamon.

I thought I'd reviewed this before but I guess I hadn't. I had an imp of it, and while it was nice, it wasn't anything that I'd buy more of - the fruit was more prominent and the lavender and honey less prominent than I liked. I'm very glad I got more as a "just in case" when the Salon came down, because it's great on me now.

Old books... Books, paper, libraries
reconditarmonia replied to supervillainess's topic in Recommendations
I love the smell of old books/bookstores/libraries, but I often find that the scent doesn't work on my skin, just doesn't suit me although I love it elsewhere. If you find the same thing, maybe check out some of the drier rose scents for the "feel." -
Can't believe I never reviewed this - it's one of my favorites. I too am crushed that I'll never be able to get more of it. It's one of the few scents where I can actually smell the lavender (a favorite note) on my skin, the magnolia adds a creamy depth to it, and there's a cold feeling to the scent.

Lavender is one of my favorite scents and, with few exceptions, it doesn't like to show up on my skin. This isn't one of those exceptions. This totally reminds me of Werepuppy for some reason, a scent I ended up selling off - maybe the balsam in this or something is also in the dirt note in Werepuppy. Also reminds me of the leather in Bow and Crown of Conquest, go figure.

Can anyone compare Fox Fires to Spirit of the Komachi Cherry Tree? I'm thinking of getting the latter and waffling on the former.

Wait, did I never review Needlework? I love Needlework. It's a lovely fresh lilac-y tea-y scent, great for hot weather.

I couldn't smell the rose in Schlafende.

Creating BPAL Gift Packs with a Theme
reconditarmonia replied to ladymissspyder's topic in Recommendations
I could swear there's another thread about this somewhere. -
A slightly fruity honey rose scent. Not unpleasant, but I've got better honey-rose scents, so I'll probably be passing this on.

BPAL's got a lot of romantic or sexy scents, but a lot of them are about straight people and situations. Which scents are more lesbian or bi-themed? I know about Sapphics, but I think that poem's from the "Sappho was totally straight and was in love with Phaon" tradition ("her chosen, fairer than all men"), and there's Wilde, but that's a guy. What am I missing? Not nonspecific ones like, say, Carnal or Debauchery, but specifically lesbian/bi women?

Good point, there are some gay lady Shungas!

I was hoping I'd like this because of the honey and roses, but it's just too orange-y on me. A bit like Alice, in which the bergamot did the same thing. I'll have to give it another try when I'm not trying six things at once and let it dry for longer, but I do have a lot of similar scents that work for me so I'm not sure I'll be rushing to buy more even if I keep it.

I wish I was getting rose like everyone else, but this is alllll lily on me!
