Gourmand - Foody Scents - General Recommendations

I'm doing homework for a friend (as a way of enabling as well). Her favorite scent was discontinued from wherever it was that she was getting it, and the notes were caramel, orchid, and musk. I was wondering if there's anything similar? I'm finding lots of recs for caramel and spice, but not so much caramel and florals.

    Fire, smoke and ash scents

The Music of Erich Zahn is REALLY smoky on me, but maybe it's just me, too. Vetiver is almost always smoky on me.

    The Great Sword of War

In the imp and wet: woody with pine and an herbal over note drying: still woody and the herbal note gets stronger but not over powering like it did for me in #20 love oil. maybe an herbal i can actually wear with my chemistry? then a weird creamy cocoa, tea, and saffron mix for awhile, but that fades. dried: the herbs and the cocoa are still there, but my beloved musk and tobacco become more prominent. the tea has faded, and i still haven't gotten any mandarin at all from this. whatever the five herbs are, they're being kept in check by the other notes- which is nice, since most herbals tend to turn into screaming green-ness on me. great sword reminds me a lot more of male cologne than most of the spice/smoky blends on me (i'm guessing that it's the red musk and the tonka) but i actually tend to prefer cologne over traditionally feminine scents. oh hai there mandarin! you decided to come play. it tones down the baking chocolate note of the cocoa and tones down the overall cologne aspect of the blend. i don't normally rank scents because i don't have a lot of basis for comparison, but i give this a four out of five. i'll wear it, but i'm not sure that it's one that would come to mind automatically over dee or the music of erich zahn.

    Fearful Pleasure

Fearful pleasure definitely reminds me of autumn, but more for the way that halloween decorations smell: a good, spicy, almost dusty smell in the imp. I have to echo what another reviewer said: it reminds me of candles. But I like candle scents, so I'm happy with that. Wet, it reminds me of cinnamon dough and slightly like an apple scented candle more than apples themselves. it's not an entirely unpleasant smell but i was hoping to get more apple cidery notes out of it. Dried down, it goes very faint on me. There's an apple note there definitely, but it's really light on me. It reminds me of halloween parties that I used to go when I was a kid: it reminds me of the smell of handmade autumn decorations and apple cider mills more than actual cider. It's a nice blend, but it fades out REALLY fast on me- I have to actually hunt for where I applied it on my arm for testing. I would keep it for layering with something like Chimera to lighten/sweeten the scent, but I'm not sure that I would actively seek this one out.

    Wolfsbane

Tea tree oil. With identity issues. In the imp and immediately on, it smells like tea tree oil. I like the smell of tea tree oil for what it is, but it's nothing that I want to wear as an actual scent. After a couple of minute once it starts to dry down then it smells like tea tree and...cinnamon? where'd that come from? and then...tea tree and vanilla, which is even more random. Something green starts to come to the surface for a split second which i'm assuming is the actual wolfsbane itself. after dry down though, it completely shifts into heavy leather and something spicy- the patchoulli and vetivier i'm guessing. it smells like it's trying to do that amazing smokey thing that i get with the music of erich zahn but just can't work up the stamina to do it. it's really not a bad scent though, just not one that i see myself wearing. it honestly reminds me of dog leashes and wet saddles, or a facial cleanser at best- again, scents that i don't necessarily dislike but not ones that i really want to seek out either. this may be the first imp that i've tried that actually went really bad/weird on me.

    Chimera

I LOVE this scent. This is a spicy, foody blend that's sweet and almost thick in the imp, but is surprisingly light on. The cinnamon is the dominant note on me, but the honeysuckle keeps it from being too heavy. Something makes this blend very foody on me, and reminds me a LOT of hot apple cider. It keeps from going red hot on me, but also keeps from being too floral or too light. This is definitely going on my most wanted and/or replace list.

I want a BPAL that smells like Bath & Body Works...

i just test the chimera, and it was lovely! thanks so much for the rec!

    Mata Hari

This is the only rose scent that I've tried thus far that I didn't amp into oblivion, and thus will remain in my collection. In the imp (I have no idea how aged it is, however) it's a warm floral. It's much closer to the spicy floral than the green floral end of the spectrum, which already makes it much more pleasant than some of of the other blends that I've tried. I actually can't pick up on the rose in the imp- the tonka and the jasmine are much more prevalent. First applied, I actually get locust blossom- heavy, soapy floral, which made me a little concerned. But once it dried down it actually became a sweet rose. The rose is constrained by the other notes, though I'm not sure that I can actually tell what the other notes are beyond something spicy and maybe a resin? I don't get food out of this at all- no coffee or vanilla. It's a pleasant rose though, and it's the first rose that hasn't turned into bathroom cleaner on me.

just out of curiosity, how strong is the milk in lambs wool? milk/cream tends to make me smell like i just dumped a steamer on myself...

    Fae

Fae is such a bizarre little scent, in a completely good way. In the bottle I get something sweet and spicy at the same time (the peach and the musk?) It's an almost sharp scent without being green. When it's just applied, it reminds me of chai tea. I'm not sure why, but it reminds me of the essence of chai but not the actual scent of chai- the same sweet spiciness with something vaguely herbal underneath that's just barely registering. I read a review for another scent that commented that it smelled like a pagan bookstore- and this reminds me of essentially the same thing. It reminds me of the herbal store that I frequent on occasion. Fae gets sweeter as it dries, which I'm assuming is the peach coming to the surface more- and fully dry it reminds me of ribbon candy. A lot of people comment that Fae smells like spring to them, but to me it smells like Christmas! This will be an imp that will be replaced.

    The Music of Erich Zahn

I LOVE this blend. This is my long standing favorite and it's the only blend that I have actually hunted down so far. In the bottle it's definitely masculine- it's dark, heavy and smoky. It's almost intimidating, but I like incense type scents. This is definitely not a light blend at all. On- oh my. It's heavy, rich, spicy, and smoky. It dries down to remind me of autumn and woodsmoke, which are two of my favorite scents. I don't get any food type smells from it, but there is a definite spice aspect that balances out the smoke that I get. The musk gets stronger the longer that it's on and helps to balance out the smoke and the other notes. This is not a subtle blend but it works really well for me.

    Kabuki

To use a cliche, this is exactly what it says on the tin. And it got swapped almost immediately. In the bottle, all I smell is candy. Sweet, overpowering, red cherry candy, like twizzlers. It stopped just sort of cough syrup but it was definitely in that line. Wet, there was a slight mellow richness that started to come through, it wanted to come through (I'm assuming the red musk), but then the cherry kicked in again. Once it dried down completely all I got from it was old licorice (the star anise). It worked wonderfully for a friend of mine, so it's hers now. I think with a heavier musk it would have worked better for me because musk plus me just works, but this just reminded me of aging candy.

    Jolly Roger

I actually have to wonder if I had the same blend as everyone else, because mine definitely didn't smell like anything other than rum! Rum, rum, rum. I smelled like rum balls! But in a completely good way. A lot of the 'alcohol' based scents (rum, pina colada, etc) absolutely reek on me if I'm not careful, but this one is sweet and light, but still heavy enough for my tastes. There is a hint of leather, but I definitely don't think the beach with this one the way that other reviewers have!

    #20 Love Oil

I was really excited to try this blend. I really liked the concept, and in reading the reviews I hoped that I couldn't be one of the ones that got nothing but rose. No. Unfortunately, it fades down from a sharp green herbal to nothing but cloying rose. As it's fading it's not too bad, there's a balance between all the herbs that I get in the imp and all the rose. After it dries down though, all I get is a really intense cleaning product rose scent. I think that this can be a real love/hate blend, but on me, I have the same air freshener effect that I get from a lot of the herbal/rose blends.

    Eve

I don't think that Eve and I are going to get along at all. Rose is the only note that I can ever consistently pick out, because I apparently amp it like mad. In the bottle it's very green, and sharp. I'm guessing that it's the apple blossom? I do get something creamy underneath and a faint sweetness, which I'm assuming is the honey. Immediately on, all I get is green and rose. A LOT of green and rose, that just calms down to that rose smell that they use in air fresheners. Powdery, fake rose. This one's going to go on the swap pile.

thank you all! i will definitely be checking these out.

    Dee

I love this scent! I agree with other reviews that this reminds me of a library, in all the best ways. It's a complex blend on me. It often smells smoky and piney in a good way, but I can pick out incense and leather as well. It's my current favorite go to blend, as it's heavy without being cloying and it's not too masculine.

i prefer the spice, but as i can wear pine as long as it's not too strong or i smell like i've rolled in pitch. i've heard good things about jabberwocky. thanks!

I want a BPAL that smells like Bath & Body Works...

Hi! My boyfriend announced last night that whatever I was wearing was the first perfume that I've worn for a long time that he actually likes on me. All I was wearing was Bath and Body Works Winter (a limited holiday scent only available in soap, lotion, and home scents) hand soap. The notes are described as pine, bay leaf, cinnamon and warm woods (i'm guessing resins of some sort but i'm horrible with notes so I could be completely off base here). It smells straight up spicy and warm in the jar but on me it smells a lot sweeter- almost citrusy and it reminds me of mulling spice. Someone suggested snow moon and fearful pleasure. I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas? I'd like to get something that I can get on a more frequent basis than the BBW stuff, and frankly I'd just prefer BPAL!
