    Bathsheba

Generic or sexy? Imp: Fruity, peppery, floral (somehow I get violet?) and.. like cheap perfume. Wet: Soapy plum. Very fruity and sweet but.. still, gives me a tiny headache because it smells kinda artificial. Very spicy but way too old-lady for me. Dry: Plum soap. Have to agree: the musk turns into patchouli on me, too. Alas, too generic for my taste.

    Drink Me

This one took me on a cray-zee ride! Imp: First, there is buttery vanilla. Delicious! Oh, oh! Toast! Toasted wholewheat bread with melting butter, yum! Oh, lookee, there is the pineapple and the sugary creamy custard pie. Maybe some cherry. Wet: Now it's mainly pineapple with buttery bread. Dry: After a while, there is something.. tangy, sharp and smokey.. like.. burned bacon or really, well, overroasted turkey. Smells a bit.. rotten. Like.. burning flesh without the sick sweetness. Old animal grease? Yeah, like blubber. Yuck. But I can still detect the creamy butter which is delicious on the toast. A nice natural fresh pineapple, too. Hmmm. That was one interesting journey and actually the most fun scent to smell & guess so far. But.. not so much for wearing, sorry.

    Sundew

Hehe, taking over from lejlkwiet.. Imp: Definitely hyacinth. A light whitish-green note with a citrus element that pushes itself into the foreground. Wet: Sour and lemony - but, again, in a toilet cleaner sort of way. Bah, lemon.. you just don't work with my skin most of the time I guess. The green freshness makes this scent seem like a decent room spray. Dry: Something like honey or amber comes through the lemon but, still, rather grassy and.. not much smell for me to work with.

    Her Voice

Hmm... not sure yet Imp: VERY green scent. Like the actual scent of rose petals that is neither floral nor sweet but velvety tart, fresh and green. A bit floral, and my guess is: this is the hyacinth or maybe the lily of the valley. Wet: Still green with a very light sweetness. The green florals are very strong in this one. Smells like.. a flower shop and a funeral home. Dry: Still green and tart with a slightly wooden note that smells like.. green beans. Cannot really detect any vanilla or beeswax or amber.

    Bien Loin D'Ici

Huh.. Imp: Smells like a heavy floral & spice perfume, even a bit soapy and dusty. Like an old chest with dried flowers and an incense-scented velvet inlay that you found in your attic. I smell rich dark honey Wet: Balmy spices, booze, tart honey, musk? Could also be patchouli. Like.. yeah, that's what I assume a magic shop to smell like. Or an old-fashioned Tarot-reading lady on a carnival. Dry: Soapy spices, heavy and dark. Musty and powdery. Incense? No caramel or sandalwood. A bit.. generic and boring actually. Meh.

    Shub-Niggurath

OMG, instant LOVE! Imp: Smells like heavy perfume mixed with spices, mostly ginger and cinnamon. A bit boozy as well. Wet: Cinnamon, ginger and, I am guessing, nutmeg, clove and perhaps cardamom! This is.. like a ginger-heavy gingerbread! I get the comparison to Gingerbread Poppet. Dry. Heavy, heavy ginger, sweat spicy cinnamon and a good dash of clove. Ohhh, I love this. So sinister and sexy and.. just me! Must. Get. Bottle.

    Alice

Nivea cream! Imp: Bergamot and rose. Very much like nivea cream. Lovely. With the slightest hint of honey. Wet: Rose and honey. With a creamy milkiness. Dry: Still rose and honey as dominant notes. Creamy and so yummy! Really captures the essence of Alice as a figure: blond, innocent and smelling like rose soap and a honeyed body lotion. I LOVE honey, but rose is just.. not for me. Too sweet and innocent.

    Flor De Muerto

Marigolds are among my favorite flowers. We used to have them growing in our front yard - in both yellow and orange - and I have always found them so lovely. I also have a hand lotion with marigold that smells so amazing! I simply HAD to try this one. Bottle: Smells "greenish orange" to me. Like unripe mangoes. Fresh, yet the hint of fruitiness and juiciness is there. Slightly floral and sweet. Wet: Green mango, bitter orange and the green stem of a flower. Very fresh and lovely. Dry: Unlike sickly sweet roses, this is a "fresh green flower" scent. It doesn't make me go YAYOMG but it is nice and not iffy or anything. I can imagine layering this with a more creamy "white and greenish" note that goes will with the fresh fruitiness in this one. I am not good with roses, so this is a great flower alternative. Layering: OK, I have this coffee spice that contains chocolate, rock sugar, orange peel, cardamom, cinnamon, orange blossom and marigold blossom. It tastes awesome! So I though, huh, I should choose a BPAL scent that has many of these ingredients because it should blend well with the marigold. So I used the tester of Boomslang that I have and, bam! - instant love! I think that chocolate and vanilla go great with Flor de Muerto because the freshness in it works well with the sweet richness of the other two. I think orange and orange blossom should also blend well with FdM, just that you'd get a fresher (maybe tarter) mix then. Spices like cinnamon and cardamom are what I'll try to find in a scent next so I can layer it with FdM and see how that will turn out.

    A Golden Idol

Interesting how notes you really like can turn into something so different when blended with one another.. Imp: At first, I only get the sharp note of lavender and the sweetness of roses. Then I can detect subtle notes of the sickly sweet (in a good way!) amber. Vetiver must be the more tart note in the background. Wet: Lavender is fighting for dominance with the rose note. A bit soapy to my nose, yet sharp and a bit medicinal. Amber is only a faint note in this one. Dry: A nice sharp/tart/fragrant blend of lavender and vetiver. Yes, vetiver was the strong medicinal smell I got once the scent was on my skin. Only weak roses, if at all, and the lightest hint of amber, if any. Hmm, too heavy on the lavender and vetiver. Might morph on my skin (vetiver does that a lot) but I guess this scent will still be too sharp and floral for me. Ah, yeah, vetiver is turning into dill and dry hay on my skin. Amber and rose more prominent now. Rose and vetiver actually blend really well. Still, cannot impress me too well.

    Sugar Skull

Vibrant with the joy and sweetness of life in death! A blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits. OK, let's see if sugar and I can get along with this one.. Imp: Smells just like brown sugar. Very boozy, as if this was a rum and sugar mix. Wet: Dark brown and rich. I am scared of the celery coming through, but Sugar Skull behaves for now. I can detect some rum raisins. Dry: Very delightful. And here I thought brown sugar was poison on me. Smells like delicious caramel (not like toffee with that sour buttery note to it) and candied raisins or other dark fruits. Ah, only the slightest hint of celery - may appear later, may not. Reminds me of Cockaigne and Gluttony, so I guess sugar/caramel comes through the most in these scents on me. ETA: I don't know what's up with my skin chemistry lately. Second time I tried this, it was all burned brown sugar on me.

    Devil's Claw

How peculiar.. Imp: Bitter and tart. Smokey woods, I agree! Wet: Bitter, dark and acrid. Smokey too. Like leather, dirt and murky swamp. Somewhat like Brimstone but with an animal side to it. Dry: Still acrid and tangy but with a more.. sensual note now. The faintest hint of honey or amber (something of an animal origin). Still smells like ashes though, with a hint of patchouli perhaps. Turns a bit sweet and spicy on my skin, kinda like Brimstone that ended up transforming into something halfway decent on my skin. Now it's patchouli leather, buried in ashes. Oh! Wow, it's like sweet hay and a bit of myrrh now. This is quite lovely, yet masculine. I think this will smell great on my bf!

    Boo

Yummety yum-yum! Imp: Smells just like sugared heavy cream. Delightful, not sour or anything. No celery yet. Wet: A bit like cake. Rich cream and sugar. Indeed like a lighter and no-booze version of Cockaigne. The tiniest hint of vanilla. Dry: Like cream and sugar with dashes of vanilla and coconut (but just very, very light and only for texture). Reminds me a lot of Black Opal in fact! Boo is heavier on the sugar - alas, no cotton for me, either! - but I think one could go with Black Opal and layer this with a sugar-heavy scent to get close to Boo in case they will not make another batch of this scent for a Halloween to come. Wow.. the more I sniff, the more it really makes me think of cotton candy. Delicious! ETA: So much for that. After purchasing a bottle when I loved the decant so very much, all I now get is.. burned sugar (or plastic bag) and pee! It really depends on the amount of Boo!, though. When I used just a dab, it was sort of OK, but since I am a slatherer..boohoo!

    Dana O'Shee

Finally! Imp: Milky marzipan. So.. yes, almonds, milk and sugar I assume. Not too heavy on the sweetness, though. Rather light and delicious. Wet: Marzipan! Dry: Milk and honey coming through. Still a huge load of marzipan. Doesn't remind me of Christmas, though, so that's something. I have a feeling the milkiness and the sweetness of honey will prevail with only a tad bit of almonds in the background.

    Pumpkin Patch III (2005, 2006)

And here I thought pumpkin just wouldn't agree with me.. Imp: Caramel popcorn with something overly sweet and fruity (almost like bubblegum). Reminds me of Lady McBeth. Wet: Creamy, buttery, popcorn-like pumpkin (must be roasted butternut). Doesn't turn sour our into fennel/celery on my skin. Pomgranate fits really well in there but is a bit too sweet for my taste. Dry: Oh, sniff-a-thon! This could very well become my "popcorn" scents. It's very warm, rich, sweet and comforting. So delicious I wanna drink it! Must order more pumpkin scents this fall!
  15. Honey

    Roses, Pearls, and Diamonds

Wow, that one smells interesting! Imp: Something icy, floral notes and light coconut. Like.. pink roses, sweet mint and coconut water. Wet: Still, it's roses, mint and coconut. Dry: Roses and coconut. Sweet, light and powdery. I like it!
  16. Honey

    The Coiled Serpent

Hmm.. Imp: Very earthy. I don't get the patchouli, but to me it smells like mosses, vetiver and.. dirt. Very tart. Wet: Something like mint or menthol is getting through the dirt and moss notes. Might as well be some darker patchouli now. Dry: Earthy, minty, herbal. Alas, too dark/tart for me. Ah! And after a while, I can detect dill! That's quite lovely actually!
  17. Honey

    Black Opal

So much better than I had expected! Imp: Very light, soft and creamy. Like baby powder. Could actually be talc! I detect tonka (could also be a type of vanilla that's more subtle) and fresh light coconut. Yes, and there is the faintest hint of violet in there! Wet: That's what I imagine Antique Lace to smell like! Vanilla baby powder! Dry: Wow, like vanilla ice cream. But the GOOD vanilla.. not the plastic cheap vanilla. Faintest hint of floral/coconut. And quite possibly white chocolate. Huh, and something like smoked honey appears after a while. I was thinking about parting with this, but the tonka/vanilla plus baby powder notes really appeal to me. And the coconut is not too strong (which is good since coconut only works on me when rather light and fresh). I also think there is something like.. caramelized/burned sugar or white chocolate in there.. it has this quality, I don't know. But I like it!

    The Caterpillar

One of my first scents - although it was a frimp from the Lab. Imp: Very heavy. I smell incense, patchouli, bergamot.. and something floral, which I am sure must be jasmin and/or carnation. I get the dark wetness that must be the moss. Wet: Sharp and herbal. Earthy. Patchouli and moss I think. Something floral in the background. Dry: Incense and something herbal. Dark mosses, vetiver and bergamot. Rather earthy, masculine and heavy. Turns soapy on my skin. Nice harmonic blend but too heavy and tart/tangy for me.
  19. Honey

    Kubla Khan

Wow, complex scent indeed! Imp: I smell sweet and spicy. Incense, sandalwood, champaca, tea, ginger, vanilla and something floral (jasmine I think). There is something, I don't know.. sharp and sour in there as well. Yeah, yeah.. the infamous gherkin appears. Wet: Sour-sweet. Gherkin. Only faintly spicy. Dry: Tobacco, vanilla and spices. Oh, hi, leather. Something floral that smells a bit too sour to my nose. Wow, now it gets smokey once it has dried down completely. Like bacon without bacon. Yeah, mostly smokey leather with tobacco and vanilla. Rich, savory and very manly, too.

    Séance

This scent is rather lovely and really fits to its name.. Imp: Dusty, tart and wooden. Like an old chest that hasn't been opened for half a century. There is also a very sweet and fruity note underneath. Like.. dried plums or cherries. And dried rose petals rather than rose leaf. Very Victorian. Lovey, decay and memories. Wet: Very boozy, sharp, tart and sweet. A bit like a crowded flower shop and old ladies' soap. Dry: Floral and fruity, a bit soapy. Still tart and sweet but not as heavy as when wet. Lovely but a bit too mature and too rosey for me.

    Saturnalia

A frimp from lejlkwiet.. Imp: Violet. Strong, sweet and giving me this queasy feeling in my head just behind my forehead - and almost making me throw up. Seriously. I will not put this on as I am having a serious throw-up feeling in my throat. Have to get this away from me asap.
  22. Honey

    All Night Long

Swapped with lejlkwiet to receive this. Imp: Smells.. sour, tart and a bit spicy. There comes the gherkin again. Wet: Cassia or cinnamon. Still.. gherkin. Sorry. Dry: Amber and cinnamon. Maybe also rich, dark honey and musk. Yes, clove. And quite possibly cardamom. No more gherkin, yay!!
  23. Honey

    Cthulhu

In my first order, the Lab included just the right frimps. But the more I order, and the better they "get to know me," the worse their scent suggestions. Imp: Aquatic, sour, ozone.. gherkin. Salty! Salty sea with ozone in the air and.. gherkin and citrus toilet cleaner? Eh. Yes, that, and cheap men's aftershave. Wet: There is this citrus note that reminds me of a cleaning product. Dry: Now I can smell something like clean laundry coming though. It's still mostly bright citrus to me with a hint of saltiness and aftershave. Meh.
  24. Honey

    Lady MacBeth

Yay, frimp by ChaosKitty! Imp: Sweet red berries with something herbal in there. Smells a bit chemical.. like those red "fruit mix" scented candles at IKEA. Wet: Wow! So sweet and fruity! Cannot detect any red wine, just berries, berries, berries! Yes, and bubblegum. Dry: Still overly sweet bubblegum berries that turn a little soapy on my skin. Smells way too chemical for me. But.. if you think of candy or tea, this is kinda delicious in a way..

    Beaver Moon 2005

Oh my... foody scent! Thank you, lejlkwiet, for that awesome sniffy! Imp: Very buttery. Yes, cake and muffins - like my bf makes them (with lots of butter and not too sweet). There is something weird in there as well.. butterscotch? Wet: Yes, muffins that are flavored with butter-vanilla and a bit of rum. Dry: Ah! The note I detected is not butterscotch but brown sugar! Yes, it is all brown sugar (pure, not caramelized) and butter on me. Yummy! Alas, it turns a bit sour on my skin after a while, but the scent itself is really delicious and fits the description to a T.
