Very nice! I've only recently discovered how much I like ozone, and this is oil for me. Fresh, ozone-charged and watery. I'm mostly using it up until my bottle of The Stormhold comes in It's very airy, not at all grounded but in an interesting way. It's a smell so light and clean it seems a miracle it sticks to you but, it does. Love it. Would always buy more.

La Bella Donna Della Mia Mente

Am I the only one who gets mint from this? Mint and flowers. I am completely rubbish at telling florals apart, mind you, since they're not really my thing and I don't smell them often. However, while feminine and soft and therefore not really for me, this is one of those rare florals I actually don't mind. It's a very soft, white floral and the mint (if that's what it is) keeps them crisp and not too sweet. The acquatic notes and bergamot help as well. Very well-rounded, would love to smell this on a girl.

    Y'ha-nthlei

What a brilliant, brilliant aquatic. Possibly the most pleasant acquatic I've ever smelled. Much to my despair, however, my imp is leaky, so I decided to pour it onto my oil burner to get the most of it. On me, it's light, watery, like shallow sea with light filtering through. Warm, pale water, with a bit of ambergris and light eucalyptus. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. In the burner, it's even more complex. I can smell the bergamot and it's all coming together brilliantly. A nice, fresh scent for my room after the festivities of Yule and New Year's, even though I'm heartbroken I couldn't keep it for myself.

    Arkham

A shadowy, unapproachable forest of maple, birch, dogwood, cypress and pine softened by a garland of New England wildflowers: bergamot, columbine, rue anemone, blue violet, creeping phlox, bloodroot, toadflax, and pixie moss. Continuing my quest to try ever Lovecraft scent BPAL has to offer: This is really nice. It reminds me of the woods and wildflower fields near my house where I grew up. I'm normally not one for florals but here the woodsy notes really calm it down. It's a floral, but not a cloying, everyday floral - it's the wild, dry, beautiful florals of my childhood. That doesn't necessarily mean I need to smell like the woods of my childhood - so I'm not going to use it on me with any regularity - but it does take me back and it's amazing in my oil burner.

The High Priest Not To Be Described

A frimp from the lab! I was always going back and forth on whether or not to buy an imp, but that solves that problem Beautiful. Dark, brooding and gorgeous. I normally have an enormous amount of trouble with leather notes - I love them but they tend to never really work - but here so many other favourite notes of mine - the musk, the cypress, the white pepper and the chamomile - step in and make it worthwhile. Even the leather behaves. Mmh. Not an everyday scent, and perhaps not bottleworthy, but I will wear this on occasion.

    Brown Jenkin

Wow, this is . . . cute. Downright cuddly. I never thought I'd think of a perfume as being cuddly or snuggly, let alone a perfume of a hideous rat familiar with a human face Utterly pleasant, dry, furry, and it snuggles right up to you and stays there. Absolutely lovely! For me the sandalwood, coconut husk and musk are the strongest notes. I normally despise coconut but I actually really like the husk - it's got a hint of that coconut scent without the sweetness. Very comforting. I for one am impressed. I'm keeping the imp, though I don't know if I could use up a whole bottle - I'll try putting this on when I'm feeling a bit low. It's good company.

    Al Azif

Huh. This is nothing like I was expecting. It's sweet and floral with a touch of something foody, here I was expecting old incense and dry paper. I was really quite taken aback. This was a frimp, and I'm glad I'm getting to try all the Lovecraft scents, but this one really isn't for me - it's just too sweet on my skin. Oh well. It's interesting to have a perfume surprise you this much though

    Cthulhu

I'm possibly the only Lovecraft enthusiast who isn't that fond of Cthulhu. I mean sure, Cthulhu is iconic of Lovecraftian literature, he's fairly cool-looking as far as ancient gods go, he has a nice palace and a great PR department, but I always hoped the other gods would get some attention as well, which they only so rarely do. This is an herbal, pleasant acquatic that smells nice and fresh, but there's also nothing really eldritch or outstanding about it. I was hoping it would be a hint darker, a little more unsettling. It smells nice, which in this context is almost disappointing. It'll make a great gift to other Lovecraft geeks like me, though

    Night-Gaunt

A lovely frimp from the ever so lovely Beth! My skin amps citrus like you wouldn't believe so this is basically all grapefruit with the kumquat to calm it down. Lots of throw and it lasts and lasts. Very fresh, fruity and clean, but not something I'd wear. Still, I want to try all the Lovecraft blends at least once, so I'm happy I had a chance to try this one, even if it's not my thing.

    Shub-Niggurath

Shub-Niggurath is easily my favourite of Lovecraft's divinities, so I had to try this as a matter of course. It smells a lot like chai tea to me, to be honest. Lots of ginger and spices. I don't get a lot of the darkness or sharpness that some people have complained of, but then my skin chemistry is a bit freakish sometimes It's extremely pleasant and wonderfully wicked to the nose, and I'm keeping the imp around just for that - it's not really something I'd wear but it's definitely something I want to be able to smell every couple of weeks just for the gorgeousness of it.

    Himerus

Got this as a frimp, and was actually quite happy because I love juniper and bergamot, and had so far overlooked this blend. My skin eats this up. I'm not even joking. On wet I can smell some juniper, distant sandalwood and a touch o florals, but within less than fifteen minutes it's completely gone from my skin, no matter how much I slather. I have no idea why this happens. From what I smelled, this is a nice, soft, golden version of juniper and sandalwood, unisex, for those who like woodsy smells but not the usual piney air-freshener type.

    Stimulating Sassafras Strengthener

Wow, that'll wake you up in the morning! The stimulating part is right. This practically crackles and sparks in your nose and shakes you awake. I've never smelled anything so up-to-your-sinuses revitalizing. That said - I hate rootbeer. I know this makes me some kind of a freak but I never developed a taste for it, and as refreshing as this is, I don't much like the smell. Still, that's quite an experience! Am frustrated that once again, my skin eats up all the vanilla. I've yet to try a blend containing vanilla where I could actually smell anything resembling vanilla. I just wind up smelling it in scents which doesn't have it listed as an ingredient, like Iago. I don't even know . . .

    Archangel Winter

Oh, here we are The winter scent I always wanted. There isn't much to say about Archangel Winter because it's perfect in its simplicity. I love ozone and there's plenty of that here, giving it a mildly cologney scent that I love, and it's perfectly chilly and cool without the usual mint or pine notes to suggest snow. Very clean, very beautiful. Am so happy I found someone to sell me a bottle! I hope it'll be back for Yule 2010 or 2011 - I don't slather but I don't know how long this will last me

    Evening Cicadas and Red Peppers

Hmm. Am slightly undecided. There's a lot I like about the blend - the musks, which work really well on me, the ice note and the wood notes. I can't smell peppers at all but I think there's a dirt note hidden in there somewhere (or maybe it's after all the peppers and I'm just not identifying them correctly) because there's something just slightly sour here, though not enough to spoil my enjoyment of it. This is largely wet and cold with an earthiness that's quite pretty, but I don't know if I need a full bottle. I'll keep my decant around and see where it goes. Still, very evocative and beautifully blended. A lovely and masculine scent.

    Mother Shub's Pfancy Pfefferneusse

Oh! Perfection. It doesn't necessarily smell only of pfeffernuesse, it sort of smells like a collection of all the sweets of the season I've ever eaten. A bit creamy, a bit spicy, here's a bit of ginger, a littlebit of nut, a littlebit of rum extract, and plenty of sugar - outstanding! I already worked through a partial bottle I bought on the forums and am only happy a friend of mine is sending me a full one as a late Christmas gift. On me it doesn't necessarily work, I'm not a person who can carry off food scents in any way, shape or form, but it's brilliant in the oil burner. My room smells like heaven.

    What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?

Two winter ones I've discovered: Archangel Winter and Evening Cicadas & Red Peppers. Quite manly (but not obnoxiously so) winter scents. Love them both to death. Other recent discoveries: Crowley, Rome, Lightning, Nephilim, and The High Priest Not to Be Described. Greed is very unisex and I like it for when I feel like a softer smell, but some guys might not find it bloke-ish enough.
  17. Oh thank you! (Both for the fast reply and the reassurance ). I will keep stalking my mail box and hope for the best. Thanks again!
  18. Help D: I placed my (Canadian) order November 18th, since one of the bottles is supposed to be a Yule gift I thought I'd order early rather than on the cutoff date (I'd have ordered it sooner but that was the day my mum settled on what she'd like). On December 8th, I got my CnS, with the Track & Confirm screen telling me the following: It's now the tenth and it still says the exact same thing. I also received an e-mail reading in part: What does that mean, exactly? The e-mail said that they expect to ship it on the 8th, but now it's the 10th and the Track & Confirm screen still makes no indication of the USPS even having received the package from the Lab, let alone having sent it out. I'm both a little confused and a little frustrated. If it doesn't go out this week, there's no way this will reach me in time for the 24th because it usually takes at least four to five business days to get here, plus getting stuck in customs.

    March Hare

A twisted teatime tart: apricot and sweet clove. Like MCS says, a very uncomplicated scent but lovely. Smells like dried apricot and perfect clove. The March Hare is my favourite character in the Wonderland books so I had to try this one, and I really love it a lot - maybe not enough to warrant a full bottle, but it's a wonderful and tasty scent which I will gladly put on once in a while. Also the first Mad Tea Party scent I really liked.

    Crowley

Oh my good god, why did I take so long to try this? This is freaking gorgeous. I love the musk, I love the red patchouli, I love the mahogany, the oakmoss, leather and vanilla, the lilac I can take or leave but it doesn't make that much of an appearance, and although my skin usually amps anything relating to lemon in the worst way imagineable, it doesn't here. Sheer, slick elegance, and brilliantly blended. Leather, mahogany and musk are strongest right now, with a hint of vanilla, I wonder how or if this one will morph. I'm going to slather myself with it today and chances are quite good I'll include a bottle in my next order Divine!

    Black Phoenix

Ugh, oh no, this is soap on me. And rose, which I can't stand. That's what I get for ordering imps blindly without reviewing. The almond and cherry in it is nice, but it doesn't save the scent for me. I have no idea why anyone would call it "dark". I don't really consider rose a dark scent, nor almonds. The cherry, maybe, but this isn't dark at all on me, just plain old soap with mild but underwhelming fragrance. I think I'm an awful BPALer, all the 'signature' scents do nothing for me. First Snake Oil, then this. Maybe I need to hand in my membership card?

    The Deep Ones

Not as dark as the description suggests, which I find a bit disappointing. No seaweed, no algae or anything like that. A very clean, ozone-y aquatic with a slight sweetness that briefly turns to detergent during drydown but then settles back into a pleasant watery smell. I like it, but not enough to buy a bottle. I still have Cthulhu and Y'ha-Nthlei coming my way, hopefully at least one of those will satisfy my craving for a darker aquatic.

    Manhattan

Sexuality, power, confidence. A meeting of modern, sleek elegance and rich, passionate history: sheer amber, black leather, white mint, lemon peel, white tea, grapefruit, kush, teakwood and orchid. Not really what I expected Usually my skin amps leather, amber and wood so I was hoping for a luxurious, deep scent with splashes of bright fruit and mint, but alas - no. It's going to grapefruity soap and that's all. And my skin is eating up so fast I can barely catch up. Oh well. It might still work as a room scent but that's about it.

    413 U.S. 15 / Miller Vs. California

Delicious! Got this as a sniffie from a sale and really like it, though perhaps not enough to hunt for more. A lot of foody smells end up very cloying and headache-inducing on me, but not this one. It's slightly sweet, but not too sweet. I can make out the fig and the cognac, slight hint of leather. No cream though. Why does cream never show on my skin? I so desperately want it to. Gorgeously blended, though, I must admit And it grows ever deeper with each passing moment. Very nice.

    Famine

Oh, the cruelty of it! This is the single best thing I've ever smelled and the perfume I'd use for myself, if only my skin wouldn't eat it up in a record half-hour no matter how much I slather. Am heartbroken. It's masculine, deep and slick without being overpowering. It's the gentleman in the dark suit sitting in the corner of the room smoking a slim cigarette and drinking tea from a paper-thin bone-china cup. The lilac, which I was worried about since my skin amps it and I don't like it, barely makes an appearance, the tea and musk scents are very strong and the tobacco leaf gives it a sturdy base. If only it would last . . .
