this is a very soft and beautiful scent! i am mostly getting white musk, oakmoss and tobacco flower, with the TF being the strongest. it's more floral than i imagined, and i can't smell any coconut at all. this is a lovely scent, i'm glad i bought it.

yep, myrrh and cinnamon. i get more cinnamon at the beginning, but once it's been on my skin for awhile, i am getting merely a cinnamon-tinged myrrh. this is alright on me, but nothing spectacular, so i think i'll swap it.

hmm, this smells kind of like elmer's glue in the imp, but when i put it on my skin, it blossoms beautifully. funny how sinister the description is, because this scent is anything but that! it is very misty and otherworldly, though. it's soft and a bit powdery, very subtle and the color that comes to mind is white. i can't really make out any notes at all, actually, it's just a very soft, powdery floral, but not in the way that violet is powdery. the closest thing i can think of is stephanotis, but i'm not sure that's what this is. this is very pretty and i will definitely keep this.

ew. this just does not work on me, at all. in the imp i smell the sandalwood and wine mostly, with maybe a touch of rose. sort of winey-earthy. however, on my skin, the rose turns sour, the wine smells old and there is something that smells like a public bathroom, which i think is the combination of patchouli and jasmine. this just doesn't work with my skin chemistry at all, which sucks because i love the imagery of the scent...

Snake Oil Help! Layering it, Snake Pit scents, blends with Snake Oil
theseagrows replied to spaceprostitute's topic in Recommendations
western diamondback is probably my favorite snakepit scent, HOWEVER, today i got some aged snake oil in a swap and it's very similar. i do not like fresh snake oil, but this aged stuff has got me smitten! i liked most of the snakepit, at least to a degree, but my favorites, along with aforementioned WD, would be: green tree viper, death adder, cottonmouth, habu, and banded sea snake. -
i got this as a frimp in a swap. i find it to be masculine, but in a soft, comforting sort of way. it's not too herbal or aquatic or in your face. it's subtle and a mix of resins and greenery with that slight hint of leather. sage always smells great on me, so i am loving this one. i like it on me and would also like to smell it on my boyfriend!

... A dark, palpably sacred chthonic blend: black narcissus and cypress, stephanotis, opoponax, labdanum, onycha and ambergris. this is a deep, dark scent indeed, but there is a little bit of light in this. something pretty, perhaps the stephanotis? i can't be sure, but it's a subtle and pretty floral, enveloped in a cloud of warm heat and smoke. this is much lovelier than i even thought it would be. nice surprise!

the peach was the one drawback to this scent, but since i had good luck with nectarine lately and liked most of the other notes, i figured i'd try this. starting off the peach and florals are most prominent on my skin, as it dries down, the ambery-cream comes out more and merges with the peach, making for a peach-cream scent. very very pretty! i don't know what it is with me liking fruity scents lately...

for about 5 minutes i LOVED this. i thought "wow this'll be the one yule scent that i buy a whole bottle of." then it dried down and now all i get is a strong cocoa-beeswax scent. gone is the lovely olive oil and smoke

i mostly get a snowy scent with fir and rose. maybe a slight hint of blackberries as well as warmth from the skin musk. i am not smelling any white sandalwood or amber in this. it's a bit sour on me (probably from the rose), and not all that compelling with my skin chemistry. too bad, the description of this one is beautiful.

yep, i knew the pomegranate would be the deal-breaker here, but i was hoping it wouldn't be. red fruits often turn to scented-doll scent on me, like a fruity plastic scent, and this one does too. it's like scented doll with a hint of leather. scented dominatrix doll??? i dunno!
-
i get some very herbal florals from this, and at first it is quite sharp- there is an underlying wood scent that i've gotten in other bpals that turns on me. not sure what it is though. the snow is very subtle in this, and the musk doesn't come out till it's been on the skin awhile, and then i like it better. i was hoping for more violet, but don't really get much from this. after about an hour, this is a really nice, pretty winter floral.
-
i get mostly snow and sweet pine and sap. the herbs make up most of the background, and the flax and flowers are subtle. most yule scents are too piney/snowy for my tastes, but i still like this. just would only wear it at this time of year.

wow, this is totally unremarkable on me. i had hope for this one and was very excited about the vanilla, amber and champaca especially. on me however, it smells like watery pencil lead (which is the sandalwood i think.) it smells clean but earthy at the same time but my skin eats most of it right up. it's been years since i tried this and was frimped the latest version: it smells the same, apparently, though now i sort of appreciate the sandalwood which actually isn't as leadlike as frankincense can be. i smell sandalwood, amber and yes something that seems watery but is not aquatic. maybe kush? i'm not sure. The amber and vanilla come out after a few minutes and it smells quite nice- dry and warm, it reminds me of the desert.

i've forever steered clear of this one because of the peach, but the lab wouldn't let me and sent me a frimp. it's a pretty springtime scent, with the peach, heliotrope and white musk at the forefront. it's very light and pretty and innocuous. i've always been anti-fruity perfumes for myself, but lately i am digging them for some reason, so i kind of like this! not sure if i will keep it, since i don't know if i would wear it a lot.

oh my, i LOVE this. it's soft, warm, sensual and dare i say inviting? the notes are blended beautifully, and i love the oakmoss in particular in this. the muguet is soft and not overpowering. this is simply soft and beautiful, and i MUST have a bottle!!
-
this starts out sweet and slightly musky. i can't place what the sweet note is, but it has an effervescence to it, like root beer or cola, but the scent is definitely not sasparilla. once it dries down, there is a sweet rose scent. the rose turns a bit sour on me, unfortunately.

got a sniffie of this from someone, with just enough to test! in the imp it smells like a strange, foody, musty herbal scent. on my skin it gets less musty, and the herbs come out strongly. there is some vanilla-caramel/cocoa scent in the background which isn't really doing much for me. this is too herbal/foody for my personal tastes, but i am glad i finally got to try it. eta: i tried it again and it smells better but is really subtle. it reminds me a LOT of vice-it's chocolatey.
-
hm, i am having mixed feelings on this one. one one hand, the vanilla+rose+mandarin combination is quite nice. the musks are in the background and smell neither like red or white musk to me. there is something in this that's kind of off on me, but i am having trouble describing it...it's almost sour or sharp, but not quite. this smells a LOT like oscar de la renta on me, which my grandmother wore when she was alive, and i can't really shake the association. i think i'll have to pass on this one.
-
in the imp i get a nice scent of gardenia and champaca, however on my skin, the blue musk is amped and aquatic-y. that was the one thing i was afraid of in this scent, as i am not really a fan of aquatic/ozone scents. this is very pretty, dark and watery. the blue musk does turn wonky, but once the scent fades i'm left with a soft pear-champaca scent which is quite nice. i may need to re-try this one.
-
this is an herbal-resin scent on my skin. not too sure what's in it though. some sort of sandalwood and maybe musk with a shot of herbals through the middle. i can't place what the herb is, but i've smelled it before. it's not really smelling all that great on my skin, so i will swap it.
-
something in this is going wonky on my skin, probably the beeswax, but i'm not sure. i smell something sort of vanilla-like, which i am guessing is the tea with cream. there's the muguet in the background and the strangeness of the beeswax coming through. i have a love/hate thing with this beeswax. one minute i like it, the next i don't. i'm not sure if i smell the wool or pepper in this-perhaps they are background elements. i'll probably have to try this again for the final verdict.

Ebisu Making Love As Two Octopuses Look On
theseagrows replied to phantasmmysteria's topic in Lupercalia
i am not much of a fruity-scent girl, but i quite like this one. i discovered that nectarine and i are friends, unlike peach, because nectarine is more citrussy and less sweet. the skin musk in this is subtle and i can smell the oakmoss in the background- a truly beautiful backdrop for the nectarine. this isn't a normally "me" scent, but i am really loving it! -
ooh, this reminds me of a candle i had once. i am getting the beautiful florals mostly, and the beeswax, tobacco and cocoa add ad nice backdrop. this smells like a subtler dia de los muertos to me- less boozy and floral, but similar in a way. there's a bit of dustiness here, maybe that's the white sandalwood, i'm not sure. anyway, this is a very pretty scent and my favorite so far of the halloweenies i've tried.
-
ok there are some pretty scents going on here- the copal, spices and tobacco for sure. however, something in here smells like B.O. on me. ugh my skin chemistry! i have no idea what it is, maybe the agave nectar? all i know is, i've got to wash this off!
